Great story, compelling characters and stunning art.

Kyo is still on his quest for finding his body, and he meets one obstacles after the other. We are introduced to so many of the 12 generals, warriors set on finding Kyo body before him, and yet they can’t seem to miss an opportunity to spar with the legendary samurai.
So basically they piss him off a lot😂 It’s glorious.

*CLAPS* Best samurai manga I read thus far. It's insane how this series was dropped by Tokyo Pop. Hopefully it get "picked" up by a different publisher because it's getting difficult to find proper "used" copies. The story is developed well and the action scenes are fun to see. The characters aren't boring and are interesting and well written especially Red Tiger, Yukimura Sanada and Kyo.

Today’s post is on Samurai Deeper Kyo Volume 7 by Akimine Kamijyo. As it is the seventh in the series you need to have read the previous volumes in order to understand the plot. The cover has Kyo and Sasuke fighting and looking cool on the cover. There is language, some sexuality, and lots of violence. Older teen and adults are the intended readers for this manga. The story is told from third person god point of view with character’s thoughts added from time to time for character growth and plot development. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Death or Glory
A showdown of epic proportions is about to take place as Sasuke realizes that he and Kyo share more than the murderous intent in their eyes! They both wield the same Muramasa sword that was rumored to have slain thousands of men. As their duel heats up, a ferocious foe from Kyo’s past appears and adds fuel to the fire…

Review- Kyo just cannot meet new people with trying to fight with them. He is just not interested in someone unless they fight him. So Sasuke is one of Yukimura’s ninja’s and is considered the strongest of them all. He is based on a real historical person with the same name. There are author’s interviews in between chapters and Kamijyo is answering questions from readers. The one question that made me laugh was about her great grasp on Japanese history. Kamijyo tells the reader that she did not study Japanese history; she studied world history and is now having to do a lot of reading. Of course more people are coming to fight Kyo as he is getting closer to where his body is. One of the 12 Shogun Gods wants a piece of Kyo and Benitora gets his own trouble. I enjoy how Kamijyo makes character development happen during fight scenes. And more relationship development between Kyo and Yuya. Kyo just cannot keep his mouth shut and that makes his life so much harder than it has to be. But do not feel too bad for him; he does bring it on himself.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

As a person with piercings and a general interest in piercings, I have a sneaking suspicion that Kamijyo doesn't know how piercings work. Bikara has som kind of lip piercings, and the placement is shit. They aren't the typical labret, but they aren't proper vertical labrets either. There also was a character earlier with either helix or like extra lobe piercings and they were placed super weird too. It's kind of annoying to look at not going to lie, but also really really nit-picky.
Also Yuya is 16 and she get sexually harassed/assaulted all the time. What is going on with this series?

Rating mostly based on how much I like the series as a kid.

Somehow I'm not surprised that everything is deep in Aokigahara.

I seem to have lost my reading mojo. With as much action that is in Samurai Deeper Kyo, Volume 07, I feel like I should have enjoyed it a lot more than I did. It wasn't terrible, but even with all the fighting going on, nothing seems to be happening. I didn't perk up with interest until the very end of the book when Yukimura makes an appearance.

Yukimura is such a duplicitous character. I love how he's happy-go-lucky, scheming, drinking sake and chasing women. But what I love more about him is how he can flip a switch and suddenly turn into a formidable bad mutha'ucka. He is definitely becoming my favorite character. It's because of him that I can't wait to pick up the next volume.

Kyo is a pretty badass character and in this book, he becomes even more badass! Sasuke agrees to be Kyo and Yuya's guide (with Yukimura's encouragement) in the forest, but they don't get very far. First Bikara shows up, and that's a whole episode in itself. This guy is huge and very burly but he talks like a little girl- there is something so distressing about that combo and I couldn't wait to see his demise. As this battle is going on, Benitora and Ajira have a small skirmish and they learn the identity of The Master. Benitora then rushes off to make sure that Yuya is safe. Kyo amps up his power and defeats Bikara, but then quickly falls into another battle with Shindara. To me, Shindara is a fun character for Kyo to battle with and I can't wait for another battle. However, this battle ends quickly and they all leav, along with a kidnapped Yuya. They go to The Slope of Hell, but don't know the way out- they are stuck. So Benitora finds Kyo and yells at him for losing Yuya. That night, Benitora is about to leave the group and find Yuya on his own, and as Ajira begins to stop him, Yukimura arrives. This guy has surprising strength as well and I feel he will be a formidable foe for Kyo later. However, his arrival also brings two more opponents- Haira and Makora. Yukimura becomes involved in a battle with them and this is where the volume leaves us.

So far, I think this volume has the most battles. We come across foe after foe but the funny thing is, I don't think they've moved. I feel like Kyo has been in the same spot this entire volume and Benitora was the only one that made some distance. Hopefully we will get moving and find Kyo's body soon- I want to know what is going to happen.

We get to witness a whole bunch of fights in this volume, but effectually nothing really happens besides Yuya getting kidnapped by the bad guys. Apparently they did it to keep Kyo in line, but if they actually think he'll stop then they're crazy. Kyo will get his body back eventually, and then he'll be even more powerful than he already is.

Lots more action, and Demon Eyes Kyo's character grows and develops during the battle scenes, which is an interesting way to show character development. The author has brought in some historical characters to round out the people who are out to get Kyo.

The story is a bit dull when it starts off with Yuya and Kyoshiro. But as you progress, the plot thickens and newly cast members introduced piece by piece make this manga unique and a bit of a masterpiece. There are two main story lines: 1- Yuya is looking for the man that killed her brother and 2- Kyo is searching for his true body to exact his revenge. Every other plot in between just adds fuel to the story and lets you learn of the diverse background of many characters, friends or foes. The story itself was captivating and it is a shame that many people know of this series.

The art style refined over time, giving the battle scenes flaws execution. The each character had their own torments and demons to deal with but I would have to say that certain individuals needed more evolution or better backstory. The end was well received and left no stone unturned.

I have watched the anime adaptation and I don't recommend it. It doesn't do it justice.
