I really enjoyed reading the story of Sally, the slightly scatty witch as she tries to find her feet in the mortal realm. Usually when watching or reading murder mysteries I find myself rolling my eyes half way through when the identity of the culprit becomes so obvious that it's hardly worth continuing to the end. But this one kept me guessing until the final chapter. Miss Reed has done a great job of setting the tone for her cozy mystery series with Book 1 and I can't wait to get stuck into Book 2.
What a fun quick read! I adore cozy mysteries and decided to give this one a try. I really enjoyed the bit of magic entwined within the real world. Sally seems like a very relatable young woman and I adored Betty’s personality. She reminded me a bit of Betty White, seems super sweet and grandmotherly, but with a witty/sassy side. You wouldn’t want to get on her bad side.
A witch crosses over into our realm after a bad marriage. Determined to make it on her own, without the use of magic, she winds up in a small town. There she finds a job and a place to stay in a cafe with secrets of its own. It hides a local detective agency and Sally will have to join in order to keep her job and home. Will she solve the murder case or become the next victim?
Thinking she had not a snowball's chance of getting the job written on the small chalk board. She was even more surprised when Betty put her to work immediately. And then to find out she had a second job as a detective was a wow and an on my God type of thing.
Good introduction to a new paranormal cozy murder mystery series. The characters we are introduced to are an interesting mix. I look forward to learning more about them. The story is well written, fun to read, and the plot is decent. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
A nicely done paranormal cozy first of a series. The protagonist is fairly well introduced and we have a glemps of the supporting cast. But there is obviously more character development to come.
The mystery is a very simple 1 for 1 very little character build-up Really couldn't get into the characters at all 3rd at all though so for free bee it's OK but I wouldn't paid 9910th for it.
