you're still in my passenger seat...and other ghost stories

Rate this book
You're Still in my Passenger Seat, and Other Ghost Stories is Maddie McGlinchey's debut poetry collection. The collection delves into love in three phases, divided into a chapter for each. Through her poetry, readers will embark on the journey from infatuation, to love, to heartbreak as McGlinchey walks them through her experiences with all three. Sometimes love can feel like a ghost story, always haunting, always just out of reach — sometimes love, and heartache, lingers in your passenger seat.

Maddie McGlinchey's "you're still in my passenger seat...and other ghost stories" is an intimate diary of longing and heartbreak. McGlinchey writes candidly about the inner-workings of want, a desire that fuels to the point of destruction. These poems pick up the shattered pieces of old love and reassemble them into something that looks like healing and growth, for both the primary speaker and readers. Through expert story-telling and powerful emotion, "you're still in my passenger seat...and other ghost stories" calls to those that have been burned by their hearts and are ready to reclaim them. To those that have chosen to feel it all, regardless.

Maddie McGlinchey’s debut collection, ‘You’re Still in My Passenger Seat...and Other Ghost Stories’, is a stunningly honest and raw exploration of love, heartbreak, and healing. Each and every poem in this book will stop your heart in its tracks, as the poet questions the many different directions and pit stops and destinations of love. McGlinchey’s style is at once lush and accessible: her imagery is so vivid that the reader finds themselves in the passenger seat, witnessing first-hand an exorcism of years’ worth of ghosts. Driven by an undeniable undercurrent of hope, this book is an urgent, full-speed navigation through the trials and tribulations of sexuality and discovery, as the poet re-routes and re-writes her own narrative in a searing display of resilience and strength. McGlinchey is an immensely talented poet, and her first collection is a must-read.

I finished 𝓎ℴ𝓊'𝓇ℯ 𝓈𝓉𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝒾𝓃 𝓂𝓎 𝓅𝒶𝓈𝓈ℯ𝓃ℊℯ𝓇 𝓈ℯ𝒶𝓉 this past sunday! I’ve been so busy this month with arcs and other things that I’ve barely read any poetry but I’m glad I finally got a chance to finish this one.⁣

It was a good read, the poems are very centered on heartbreak and learning someone’s true colors and how they happy bubble you lived in was happy because you overlooked a lot of things. ⁣

The poems were emotional, heartbreaking. You could feel and understand the author’s pain. She had an amazing capability to express her feelings and what was going on in her mind. And it was incredible to read them, no matter how sad they might be.⁣

I really enjoyed this read!⁣

Maddies debut poetry collection ‘you’re still in my passenger seat’…and other ghost stories was a book I finished in a day as I couldn’t put it down. I loved the way maddie is able to make the reader feel like they are right there with her as she goes through everything from heartbreak to healing. It is and intimate and honest collection of poetry. Thoroughly enjoyed this read and can’t wait for a second collection by her, which I’m sure will come!

Okay ouch. This book honestly hit way too close to home at some points. It was beautifully written and all too relatable for me. The poems mainly focused on heartbreak and a lot of self reflection. It made me feel nostalgic, it made me sad, it made me feel a lot of things. I really loved this collection.

I loved this collection. It really explores love, heartbreak, and healing in such a soft way. Maddies words are almost comforting even during the heartbreaking and upsetting poems that really pull on your heart strings. The poems come across honest and emotional.

A really wonderful perspective on love and lost love.
