Demands #3

Confidence

Rate this book
For a relationship to work, it is not just love which is demanded. Confidence is, too.

Alexis is starting her first job. As someone who’s always been shielded, and unlucky with partners that considered her too subdued, or even boring (that last comment, especially, would always sting the most), she doesn’t really know what to expect when she first meets a captivating, and seemingly self-assured waitress.
Sierra is a struggling artist who comes from a problematic household. With her father in prison, she is soon forced to gain independence. Working at a bakery with two owners who treat her like they would their own daughter, she can start to regain her sense of security. It’s hard, though, when miscommunication and doubt get in the way.

Confidence is the 3rd book of the Demands series. Although they can be read as stand-alones, characters from previous books will make multiple appearances throughout the series.

A chance meeting

Sierra lives with her Aunt, but feels unwanted and unwelcome there. She works for herself designing and selling LGBQT+ book covers, but is not earning much doing so yet. During a phone conversation with a former high school friend, she finds out there may be a job available at her friends Cousins bakery which will help her to be able to afford her own place.
Alexis lives at home with her Dads, She has just got her dream job working for the historical society. She has a small group of friends and is uncomfortable around unfamiliar people as She is quite shy in social settings.
Whilst out Alexis's friend suggests they go to a new bakery she's heard good things about. Alexis can't keep her eyes off the server at the bakery, and decides to visit again.
Sierra has noticed Alexis as well and they start to get to know each other, things proceed quickly from then on.
Although this is Book 3 in the Demand Series, it works well as a standalone. The author gives lots of details about all the characters in the books and they all quickly become familiar to you. There is some angst and upset in the book but it's done really sympathetically towards the characters . I have not read the previous 2 books and it did not affect my enjoyment of this story in anyway. This is a new author to me but I will be reading more of their work.

I haven’t read the first two books in the series, so this author was new for me.
Sierra the one with the terrible past and Alexis the one with her own insecurities and difficulties (just in a different way). The moment they meet each other is so sweet, I had to smile the whole time. After that it went on a bit too slow for me. There was their first date, but then there was a bit of a break. It was when the story was about characters from the first two books in this series. So I couldn’t really relate. I think if I would have read those I would have loved this part a lot. But because I haven’t personally I wanted to see more of our MCs and know how their story continues. In comparison to those slow scene the story continues faster which was a bit a contrast to before. At some point Sierra‘s past catches up with her. That‘s when you get to see what happens if you don’t talk to the person that is closest to you. There will be misunderstandings and people get hurt. I was happy when they both finally had the talk they needed. Besides our MC‘s I personally loved Derrick and Tim. They are such wonderful sweethearts. I would love to have people like that in my life too.

This is my first adventure into reading FF. Alexis is extremely shy, she is uncomfortable being around other people. She has just gotten her dream job and is out with some friends when they go to Cousins Bakery. There she notices the server, Sierra. Sierra feels like she is not wanted at her aunt’s home where she is living. She has just recently started working at Cousins. She also notices Alexis. They get to know each other and go on their first date. I really liked the story; it was well written and felt the author (new to me) did an excellent job. I’ll definitely be looking for more of her stories. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

This book brought back wonderful memories of when I was in my early 20s and working in a queer-owned bakery. I loved Alexis and Seirra, and even though things moved quickly, the flow felt natural. I appreciated that there wasn't a bunch of drama and that the conflicts were believable.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The opinions stated in this review are mine.
