Subtle Echoes is a collection of poems and open letters. Exploring through the depths of one's emotions, peaking into the realities of love and betrayal, freeing the caged memories and daunting upon the scenarios overthought; this book remains the choice for many unsaid emotions and unexplained moods. A book for the ones who want to be understood yet remain quiet, who want to relate their situations, the ones who are looking for the ray of hope and positivities among the negatives. A book that tries to fathom the echoes of a subtle heart.

Her fondness to portray various emotions, memories and happenings that people relate to, are seen in her writings.
Sometimes we come across such books that touch our heart. One such book I came across lately is Subtle Echoes by Tehmeena Salam . It is a collection of 48 poems and letters inked into 124 pages with hues of Nostalgia and melancholy . From the very beautiful eye catching cover to the little illustrations at the bottom of the poems , swimming through the words I liked many things about this book. First of all these poems revolve around different phases of life like first love , heartbreak , crush , relationship between siblings , mother and daughter , self doubt and discontent , breaking trust , unfulfilled desires of one's own life , etc . They touch myriad of emotions like joy , grief , introspection and many more which come out to express through the play of words. I liked them because they are truly lucid to understand . You don't need to beat your head to decipher any allegory . More over as I like poems with rhymic styled so these were perfect for my preference. Other than that the unique style of the letters , more like ode to people and past gone days were touching and relatable. It is straight from the heart. I really liked how arranged they were along with the use of ornamental and appropriate words .Each poem and letter or prose is beautiful. I found A letter to The One Star Gazer, A letter to the Second Mother , Solitude , Rape.
A collection of some wonderful poetry and open letters. There are total 48 number of poem (musings, quotes too)and open letters. The first letter addressed to the readers will definitely win your heart,it is like a conversation the author is having with the reader. And truly as stated by the author that this book is for all the moods and one can flip through the pages and get in touch with their own hidden feelings. And in the poem,Imperfectly perfect how beautifully the author has written the feelings one goes through about old scars looks and how we have grown within our orderly mess. And that particular letter about star gazing holds so much of truth. And the letter to second mother that is elder sister beautifies the bond of siblings and makes me wish that I too had an older sister. There are different topics rather i would say emotions that the author picked up for pouring her heart out and inking such wonderful poetry. Letters to teen self, peers, beloved parents, sudden goodbyes, letting go are some reality checks and also true advices at some places. You can open up any page from the book and start reading the wonderful words and trust me you will feel so connected. Great collection of words with easy flow is seen in the book .
This book is really a collection of echoes in our mind that we often want to say out loud when we can't keep them inside anymore but often bury them in order to move on with life only to fail at it time and time again.
This book is a collection of poems but what made it special was the open letters. She has a letter for everyone and everything. It just made it so beautiful and anyone who is sucker for old school letters will totally love them. The poems mainly touched upon the topics of what it is like to be a woman, a mother, a sister and someone with a broken heart. She also provides comfort, love and lessons through her poems.
The only thing is that I couldn't connect with everything per se. Especially when she talks about family and bond, between her and her sister, with her husband and her child. Those poems are not for me. But the feel it gave and the moments were too cute to ignore. She is so confident as a writer and I believe she has so much potential.
Pick it up if you love letters, have a great family bond and love. It will also soothe your broken heart. It is a solid four star from me.
While reading this book i realised how there are so many ways people can play with words to put our thoughts in the form of poetries. Every writer and every poem is unique giving so many different perspectives. Subtle echoes is a collection of poems and letters around various topics and relations. All the poems were a voice of our thoughts and some were very inspiring. They were heartwarming and soothing and just when I thought it was warm, the poems shifted to something deep and serious. . And were really giving out strong vibes. The main thing which I loved about this book is that it didn't stop with love and heartbreaks but the poems and letters dived into vast topics that run on our minds daily and covered all relations. This would be a good book to read under a starry sky.. Both to be calm and also to get lost thinking deeply
There is a saying “The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.” The author has simplified complex emotions into such simple meaningful poems and letters. It deals with the raw emotions that we encounter in our life and keeps us wondering about our family, friends, lovers. It mainly represents about woman's voice, her frustration in her society, about her body, her choices, her wishes.
A woman is a mother, a sister, a daughter, and most important of all she is a human. It has captured the agony of women behind her silences, those who are bullied as a victim of rape, abuse and still trying to find her wings among the darkness.
Throughout the book, we can feel the author's love for stargazing and really made me my balcony and just gaze at the stars till midnight.
This book is a gem and one of my favorite reads this year.
The book is mainly Collection of Poems and letters written to our loved ones, things and ourselves. The language of the book is lucid and make you stick till the last page.
here is one excerpt from her book. You are something No one desires. You hurt people in a way I can't express . You eat up their mind and Suck on their happiness. You leave them Yearning for answers.you leave them devastated. --> A letter to Sudden Goodbyes
These words hit you hard, Isn't it? When you read this book you can easily relate with the beautiful words she has written to describe One's feeling. I will recommend this book to each and everyone who is looking for a Light yet relateble read, To the One who is an over-thinker , to the one who is Emotional, Soft hearted , To reader and Non-Reader .
Subtle Echoes is a beautiful collection of 48 poetry and open letters. The language used is lucid and easy to flow through. While reading some poetries were too real.
It's amazing how the author has managed to connect with what I was feeling while reading. In the beginning the author talked about moon and stars in quite a few poems which honestly felt like repetitive but then many different themes are covered. Major themes explored in this book are namely , moon and stars, night sky, love between sisters, parents, friends, lovers and many more. Other themes include discrimination, rape, unwanted pregnancy, judgement etc.
It's evident that the author has poured her soul in this book. Each poem and letter has a pretty doodle. The book cover is also serene and beautiful.
I would recommend to read it slowly to really feel the emotions behind each piece of work.

In this fascinating title, Tehmeena (@subtle_echoes) revealed her magic abilities with words through total 48 compositions including poetries and letters. When I started this book, the first things that grabbed my attention is the letter to readers. The author beautifully crafted something for her readers in which comfort as well as creates a mesmerising feeling in the reader's mind. Then back to back poetries with various emotions, love, care, devotion, relation etc.
The beauty of words lies in their emotions & poet maintained balance in each poem. Each poem contains some distinct subject with a lot of thoughts, symposium, picturesqueness, inner conflicts, self-love, rape, the beauty of solitude.
"With solitude, the peace you gain, While silently walking alone, Through that garden lane, *
The major part of this book which I love is the women-centred feelings. Poet beautifully portrayed some emotions between relations which can't be articulated. The love of a daughter to her mother & vice versa, happiness on the arrival of a newborn, the selfless love of a second mother & moreover the pure love between a couple with the actual meaning of love.
A letter to my beloved parents is one of the key elements which we bookworms want to write. It's truthful as well as expresses gratitude. Each letter expresses something strange connecting various souls in a psychic manner. Sometimes the impact of words is so empathic that it gives the reader what he/she wants. . While reading I float away in the sea of words & feel the real magic of words. . A must-read book from my side. . Thank u subtle_echoes it's truly an unforgettable experience throughout reading the book. The words echo in my mind like songs in a dreamland. .
"Every little incident laid a mark, Just like words engraved on a bark, Pondering if it was her fault or faith... Forgetting isn't easy while she remembers every date.." - Subtle Echoes by Tehmeena Salam

Well, I would like to thank the author first for sending me a review copy of this beautiful book. Her poems are heart touching.
generally, I read Nonfiction book (autobiography, self-help) but it was good to take a break and switch a little to fiction or poetry to make my mind calm. this book exactly did that. These two-verse actually made me smile and cry at the same time. These three verses are my favorite of all.
He pulled out a ring,
"Will you be the Monica,
To this Chandler Bing?"
She sobbed with a yes,
"So, didn’t I propose with finesse"
They laughed and hugged,
Conversed whole night,
Until their faces,
Shone with broad daylight.
AND
I looked in the mirror,
Again at that same reflection,
This time with a little more affection,
And I saw that I was perfect with my imperfections.
AND
Society denies them right,
And uplifts the already uplifted,
While the poor struggle to educate,
Their forehead furrows are never lifted.
Being bias over status exists,
And the rich remain privileged and gifted.
Won't you look for a fair-skinned partner?
Yet you protest- 'black lives matter',
Bullying people for color,
The idea of apartheid survives in scatters,
Racism still exists in the hood,
Fairness creams are exemplary to this flatter.
Favorite letters-
A letter to the society who rejected me a letter to the one trying to let go A letter to my teen self My review, You will enjoy this amazing book and relate to it. It is a collection of poems as well as open letters to various people (second mother, society, second love) The poem is well written in not so complicated language so it is beginner-friendly too.
I admit having lost touch with writing poetry after school and was so elated when @subtle_echoes gave me the amazing opportunity to read her first venture out work as an author. I will take this chance to congratulate her on the spirit of starts.
The collection of poems and proses is beautifully named "Subtle Echoes" and the pure essence it gives me is that of sitting in my verandah with my notebook open and writing my thoughts down. Albeit hers are way well written but I cannot thank her enough for giving me another feel of those happy days.
The book comprises of forty five pieces of art transcending through various emotions and phrases of thoughts. From self talks to words we want to speak to our beloveds, the span is diverse. My personal favourites are Solitude-her companion, A letter to The Ones looking for answers, The Story of my Mended Wings amongst the others. It felt like reading a journal, so personally crafted and drafted for you to read and smile. "A letter to my teen self" felt like an anecdote and I was grinning ear to ear. It is a reminiscene of memories that Tehmeena has given us and it made me a happy reader.
I hope my friends here do pick up your work and give you a well deserved chance.
Ever read an author who inspired you in so many ways?
Whenever I read a book by an author who is new to me, I immediately jump to the page which has the description of the author. Tehmeena' s personal life made an impact on me in a positive manner.
Tehmeena's Subtle Echoes particularly reminded me of the 'writer' inside me, which left me more than a year ago. As far as, I remember I wrote my first poem in 8th standard. It was something about Freedom. This book felt like an ode to the lost writer in me.
Subtle Echoes is a compilation of 48 poems and open letters by Tehmeena Salam. What caught my attention was the glittery book cover. Tehmeen has beautifully carved out the 'subtle echoes' of her heart. The book touches themes like sisterhood, love friendship and almost every emotion one must be aware of. One of my favourite lines from the book was - "For her little sister She had always been, The epitome of love and sympathy." If you love reading open letters like me, or if you love reading poems then you must read this book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Omg, this book is so so beautifully written. The poems, the letters were so mesmerizing to read. The lines were deep, there perfect stories behind them, some had deep messages hidden in them. The lines were able to communicate what the author was trying to convey, the different emotions- pain, judgement, self love, empathy, rape and what not. The weightage of author's words was so much that it reached deep into souls and hearts. The words are so less to describe how beautiful this book was. I am not a big fan of poetries but this book maintained my interest throughout. The author's dedication in writing this book flourished through her words. All the 48 poems and letters were perfect❤️. The book left me and will definitely leave you overwhelmed. Overall- 5/5 🌟 .
This book is a collection of very well written poems. All the poems are quite brilliantly written with aesthetically pleasing doodles. I really loved how poems tell the reader a story. ~Some poems are a letter to relatives-like to mother, sister, kids etc. There is a letter to teen self, to second love, etc. ~ There are few inspirational poems with titles like to one who wants to let go and to the one looking for answers, etc. ~There are few poems about the moon and stars. ~There are few titles about rape, discrimination, societal judgements, etc. . All the poems are impressive. This book is a breezy read. Some poems will leave you overwhelmed, while some with contemplation. Overall, it is a very good poetry book and I would highly recommend it to all.
The book is like beautiful feelings locked inside a glass jar. It is a collection of 48 poetries and open letters. There are open letters to society, relatives and self. The author also wrote poems about dreamy world full of stars and moon, social issues like rape, discrimination etc. Really loved the cover illustration and the glass jar and heart illustration in each chapter. As author said, we can flip through the pages when we feel low, when we need someone to hear our hidden feelings, when we are boree, when we are happy,so that we will bloom more
Subtle Echoes is a mixed collection of 48 pieces of poems and letters, each unique, each beautifully expressed. There are many aspects about this book that sets it apart from the books of its genre. Firstly, it's the poet's creativity of putting a poem as the back blurb which made me include the book cover along with the back for you all to read. A short poem on 'Her Fictive World' placed before the Index and 'A Letter to the Readers' welcomes you into the book, setting the right tone for a good read ahead.
The author urges the reader in the very first letter by saying, "Flip through the pages when you feel low, when you need someone to hear your hidden feelings, when you are bored, when you are happy, so that you bloom more." Indeed, after having read the book entirely, I will agree with the author here. This is a book worthy of being called a collectible, which you could revisit when you need a 'pick-me-up'!
Subtle Echoes is a compilation of poems and open letters by the author. What grabbed my attention was the title, cover and the illustrations. when I started reading, the first letter was to the readers, which gave me a warm feeling and then I couldn’t stop myself from reading further.
Each poem has various emotions, care, heart-break, love, relation and many more. they all are based on happenings of our daily life and have a very deep story in them. The best thing is, every poem is very easy to understand, you don’t have to interpret anything. My favourite poems were imperfectly perfect, an over-thinker ( completely relatable), memory redefined, plastic love, rape, solitude and a few more.
Talking about the letters, I found them very unique. They were straight from the heart and somewhat relatable. I liked the way the author has written them. My favourite letters were a letter to readers, to one trying to let go, to my beloved parents and one looking for answers. In short, all letters were my favourite.
There are only few books through which I can relate myself, and this is one of them. It's a collection of poems and open letter. Loved the way author had presented her feelings. Through some poems and letter I can really connected myself. It's just awesome 🙂
This is my first poetry book, and I should say I am ready to explore more into this genre because of such a beautiful book! Subtle Echoes is a collection of poems and open letters, in which the author, Tehmeena Salam expresses emotions on different feelings. Love : romantic, self-love, fake, that of a mother, and that of a sister is shown among other topics like society's approach to crime against women and self discovery. The book tries to express the undescribable echoes of the heart. This is a truly beautiful read and I honestly recommend this sweet collection!
Subtle Echoes is a collection of letters, poems and musings. There are around 50 chapters in the book dedicated to different topics revolving around the matters of life, heart and mind.
There are some light topics such as letters to the beloved nephew or musings about lovers, love between sisters, and some heavy topics as well such as heartbreak, abandonment, prolonged sickness, rape and unwanted pregnancy.
I like the fact that you can finish the book in a single sitting and whenever you feel low, you can turn to your favourite writings/poems from here and read them again and again for motivation.
I liked the parts about sisterhood, motherhood, a supporting husband, true friendship, those were my favorite parts in the book examples of these are A letter to my Second Mother, Tales of Sisterhood.
Topics such as inequal treatment/marginalization of women and theme of racism too has been dealt with in the book in pieces such as Discrimination Exists.
The writings promote self love, self care, and embracing yourself and staying strong amidst adversity. Such as Imperfectly Perfect and An Over Thinker.
The cover of the book is just all shades of pretty and love how the author has chosen the titles of her writings.
Some of my favorite pieces were Plastic Love, What is True Love? ,The Awaited Meeting, Diversity, and A Love Letter.
The poems, letters are not necessarily related to each other and based on different topics. I think poetry lovers would definitely love this book.
Thank you to @subtle_echoes for the review e-copy.
Subtle Echoes is a collection of poems and few letters. It covers a wide range of subjects, each overflowing with emotions strong enough to make you feel strongly.
The poems and letters voiced our thoughts, some warm and some intense. The author played with the words so perfectly that it invokes the emotions, the feelings buried deep inside our heart.
It comprises of 12 letters and 34 poems amd talks about motherhood, imperfections, diversity, overthinking, true and fake love, solitude, moons and stars, proposal. Letters are written to parents, to the ever critical society, to an elder sister who takes up the role of second mother and so on. It also broaches the sensitive topic of rape and how viciously a victim has to suffer without any fault of her.
Many a times while reading, I felt as if the author is talking about me, penning down my feelings which I have told her and she is presenting them to her readers.
I really connected to the poem overthinker, imperfectly perfect, solitude and letters which touched my heart were letter to my baby nephew, letter to my beloved parents, letter to the society who rejected me and letter to the one trying to let go.
I recommend it for everyone, you will definitely connect to it.
2020 has been a year full of ups and downs for all of us. And amidst all chaos going on what can be better than reading a book that lightens up your mood. One such book which I read recently is Subtle Echoes by Tehmeena Salam.
This book is a subtle collection of words echoing in the mind of the author. When I started reading this book, I could feel a sense of belonging in between the words of Tehmeena. Although I couldn’t relate to every poem and letter I liked the way the author portrayed her feelings in such a way that this book isn’t just revolving around one particular theme instead is a collection of words for everyone.
The simplicity of the book is what I loved the most. It didn’t try to pretend to be deep and complex instead stayed raw and simple and that makes it even more special and beautiful. It hugs you while you are floating in a wave of different emotions.
This book is literally what the author said in one of the letters. “Not a book to be forgotten, among the ones in your shelf after reading, but, the one to be kept on your table. The one for every mood of yours.”
I highly recommend it if you want to read something light.
