Wolf Girl and her trusty dogs are back for another hackle-raising adventure.
On the run from sinister forces, Gwen rushes head-long into danger. With giant snakes, komodo dragons and a whole new wolf pack to contend with, Wolf Girl will need all her cunning... and all her friends.
Anh Do is a comedian, artist and also one of the highest selling Australian authors of all time, with total book sales approaching 3 million.
Anh’s first book, The Happiest Refugee, is his enormously popular memoir recounting his perilous childhood journey in a tiny boat from war-torn Vietnam to Australia. The book became an instant hit and has won numerous awards including Australian Book of the Year.
Anh has since turned his attention to children’s book writing.
Weird Do is an illustrated series starring Weir (1st name), Do (2nd name), a kid with a very unfortunate name. Aimed at the 8+ market, these books have gone off the charts as national best-sellers, resulting in 14 books total and more on the way. The first Weir Do won the Australian Book Industry Award for Older Children (2014).
Other children's book series include Hotdog, the adventures of a sausage dog and also Ninja Kid, the escapades of a 10 year old Nerd who discovers he’s the world’s last ninja.
In 2019, Anh released Wolf Girl, a series about a little girl who gets lost in forest and befriends a group of dogs and an enormous Wolf who become her family. Then came Rise of the Mythix, which marks the first of a number of sagas described by Anh as ‘A superhero movie in a book’.
All of Anh Do’s books are mega bestsellers and all rate between 4-5 star averages on websites such as Goodreads and Amazon.
It’s clear that Anh is an exciting voice in literature, able to delight across age ranges and different genres with great success, and he isn’t planning to slow down any time soon.
Travelling safely from danger once again, Gwen, Rupert and the pack reflected on their escape. The scarf which had been Gwen’s mother’s she was hoping would lead them to her parents. But when Sunshine disappeared while they were all sleeping, taking the scarf with her, Gwen wasn’t sure why or what was happening.
Following Nosey as he tracked Sunrise, the adventure suddenly went bad with komodo dragons and giant snakes to contend with. Where had Sunrise gone? Would Gwen, Rupert and the pack make it through the danger? And what would be beyond?
The Traitor: Wolf Girl 4 by Aussie author Anh Do was another rollicking adventure as both Gwen and Rupert try to find their parents. The dangers were many, including the soldiers, and I’m already looking forward to #5 as the friends journey closer to their goal. Highly recommended for the young (8-14yo), and young at heart (from #1 though)
With thanks to Allen & Unwin AU for my ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Gwen and Rupert travel outside of the forest for the first time in their search for their parents. It isn’t long before Sunshine goes missing. The rest of the pack immediately begin their search for her.
Although there’s plenty of action that Sunshine isn’t a part of, including some close encounters with a whole bunch of reptiles, this is really her book. She goes on both a physical and emotional journey, ultimately needing to make a very difficult choice.

I didn’t want to have to say this but another book, another injured dog. Thankfully, Zip wasn’t the one injured this time around but that’s only because . The events in this book also injured a wolf.
While we are introduced to someone from Rupert’s past, we aren’t really given any details about their shared history. Rupert finds some valuable information that may help in the search for their parents but the pack still don’t seem any closer to actually finding them.
With a couple of new locations in this book, the pack get to navigate vastly different ground than what they’re accustomed to. Scenes which would be the perfect set up for dad jokes in other Anh Do series remain serious here. The entire series is a departure from the laughs I look forward to in Ninja Kid, Hot Dog and WeirDo.
I didn’t pick up on an inconsistency as obvious as the one I mentioned in my review of The Secret Cave. I did wonder, though, how Brutus is barely able to make it through an opening while Sunrise, who is absolutely huge, doesn’t appear to have any difficulties when she follows.
I noticed some scenes that were similar to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in the last book. In this one, I couldn’t help thinking Jurassic Park, especially when I came across this illustration.

The traitor was very great and I couldn't stop reading! I am very excited for when Wolf Girl 5 will be out! But I am very curious about when #5 will be out
Wolf Girl's search for her human family continues...
Years spent with her dog family allows Gwen to understand their expressions and behaviour as if they are talking to her. She is confused at her wolf friend Sunrise's behaviour after asking her to sniff a shawl said to be her mother's.
Sunrise slinks apart from Gwen and after the group rests she has gone, taking the shawl with her. Gwen worries even more for Sunrise, especially after they discover Sunrise has travelled through an abandoned reptile park. Escaping snakes of all sizes and even komodo dragons is frightening, but nothing will stop them searching for their wolf friend.
Sunrise is also struggling with a choice. Memories as a puppy flow back into her mind. Memories of her wolf family who now surround her. They are with a group of soldiers. But aren't the soldiers the enemy?
With Eagle's help, Gwen and Sunrise meet in darkness on opposite sides of a fence. Sunrise has to make her choice. Which family is more important to her.
This episode's action doesn't stop! Snakes, komodo dragons and more. A fun park without the fun and a nail-biting mission inside an enemy lair to find the only connection Gwen has with her missing parents.
Some of this episode is told from wolf Sunrise's point of view as she struggles with the hardest decision of her life. Which family is more important to her? With a promise of Wolf Girl 5 in the near future, this series just gets more popular.
Illustrations on almost every page add even more thrill to the story. Action, intrigue and scaly monsters above our heroes and below their feet! Gripping.
Gwen and her pack find another trail, one of the pack meets their won family in unusual circumstances. What a great series, I can't wait until the next book is released to see how this tale continues.
My favourite part was when Sunrise found her wolf family. I would recommend this book to Wolf Girl fans, and it is as exciting as the first three Wolf Girl books.
Wolf Girl – The Traitor, Anh Do The fourth book unveils a new twist in this great series. **** Ch 1 – A New Direction – “I didn’t like travelling across open countryside.”
My daughter loves this series - she’s 7 this year. I read the majority but she started reading pages from this book. She loves the animal connection in the books and always hates the to be continued
The author has done it again with 'Wolf Girl 4: The Traitor', delivering another heart-pounding instalment that will leave readers on the edge of their seats! For fans of Gwen's extraordinary adventures, this book is an absolute triumph, brimming with relentless action, incredible creatures, and the enduring power of friendship. From the very first page, Gwen is propelled into a relentless chase, forcing her to confront new and terrifying dangers. The blurb hints at it, but the reality of Gwen facing down giant snakes, ferocious komodo dragons, and navigating the complexities of a whole new wolf pack is even more gripping in Anh's capable hands. The stakes feel higher than ever, and the tension is palpable as Gwen rushes head-long into one nail-biting encounter after another. But can we just talk about Gwen and Rupert for one second?! They're so cute together and I really want their friendship to develop into something more! In short, this book is a fantastic addition to an already beloved series. It's a perfect blend of high-stakes adventure, genuine emotion, and exciting animal encounters. If you're looking for a book that will ignite the imagination and leave you cheering for its courageous hero, pick up this book. You'll be howling for the next instillment!

As a new face from Ben's past had been revealed in this book, it is also revealed that the traitor in the group had gone to find their family. But, don't worry, they come back and everything's fine in the end (as always). Luckily, Gwen hadn't been kidnapped as she did at the end of the 2nd book (or 1st. Idk can't remember).
