He's her best friend's older brother. Brooding, bossy, and totally off limits. But all rules are off when she moves in as his roommate.
Oliver Flynn is putting his life back together. Sobriety, check. Great job, check. Living with his kid sister's smoking hot best friend... that might be a problem.
When Luna Locke needs a place to crash, she goes straight to her BFF's house... and walks in on her BFF's older brother Oliver enjoying his alone time. It's no big deal. It's not like she's going to die of embarrassment. So what if she thinks about mounting him every time he groans over his morning coffee?
It's not happening. Oliver is all kinds of difficult. Bossy. Brooding. Sweet in the dirtiest way possible.
Kissing him is against the rules. Touching him is totally off limits. Falling in love is out of the question.
But some rules are made to be broken.
The Rule Breaker is a standalone best friend's brother romance with a feisty college student heroine, a brooding tattoo artist hero, and enough heat to melt your Kindle. Come see why readers say "no one writes broken bad boys like Crystal Kaswell."
Crystal Kaswell is the author of the Sinful Serenade series. She writes steamy new adult romance with flawed characters. She loves police procedurals, tea, and The Hunger Games series. She lives in Portland, OR with her husband.
This is classic Kaswell, complete with the tortured tattoo artist, constant sexual thoughts, conversations about fancy coffee, and distinctive writing style. And there are pros and cons to that. Obviously, I like her work because I keep coming back for more, but we’re definitely reaching the point where I know EXACTLY what to expect from one of her books and that takes the fun right out of it. There’s a distinct sense of deja vu with some of the scenes and conversations. It’s a good book, a solid read, and if I hadn’t already read several others like it from the author, then it would be something special. I like her fluid writing style, the depth of the want, and the great conversations. I also like that she’s shifted to younger characters to change things up a bit. But it’s still too much of the same.
The story follows 21-year-old tattoo artist Oliver, a guy who has used drinking and hookups to avoid his feelings. That all stopped recently when an event forced him to reevaluate things, including his dependence on alcohol and sex. When his little sister’s best friend, Luna, comes to stay with him while her parents separate, it throws everything off-balance. The two have known each other for years, but Oliver hasn’t been sober in a long time, and they’ve never spent one-on-one time together. As they both fight their attraction and struggle with their issues, the chemistry between them becomes impossible to deny.
Had this not been SO similar to the author’s other work, I’m positive I would’ve liked it better. She’s undeniably skilled at writing emotional romance, and I felt for both of these characters. Sure, they definitely feel a lot older than their ages at times (a lot of the time), but there’s also a youthfulness to the story that shines through. I empathized with Oliver, but his sobriety is WAY too fresh for me to think that any of this story is healthy. I get that they have history, and I was able to overlook some of that, but I would’ve liked this romance to breathe a little longer. That being said, this might be one of the slower burns I’ve read from the author, and I appreciated that it wasn’t scene after scene of steam. Yes, the whole book is sexy and a little much at times, but I liked the progression. Ultimately, I think every reader will have a different reaction to this one, depending on their experience with the author’s work. Do I wish she’d change things up a bit? Yeah, I do. Do I still think it’s a good book? Definitely. I received a free copy via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review of this sexy, emotional romance.
It was good. Better than the other books of the series in my opinion.
Although, it didn’t make sense that she thought her bestfriend would be mad about the relationship when she literally constantly was talking about distracting him and such in book 2. Like she was fine with them sleeping together then but suddenly now it’s not okay?
There’s one more book in this series and I’m not going to read it because I’ve read 3 in 2 days so I’m a bit burnt out of the same story line with different characters. Also because the next one is about Patrick and he was irrelevant in every book? He didn’t get enough time in the books for me to care about him getting a happy ending lol.
Also, black coffee. That was her drink of choice, bc yes the author did it again. 3 books in a row made the characters entire personality about a drink she likes.
"Everything is dark and hard. But you're this f¥@king beacon of light"
This was definitely the most emotionally hard-hitting book in this series. Oliver is dealing with alcoholism, while Luna grapples with her parent's divorce. These two characters find each other at difficult moments in their lives and are able to help each other grapple with their problems.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book.
Luna Locke is struggling with life right now, her parents’ divorce what she needs in her life is space to just be her the punk rock chick with attitude but what she wasn’t expecting was to start to feel things for a man, a man who is her best friends brother. So maybe moving in to Oliver and Daisy’s while she comes to terms with the way her life is changing wasn’t the smartest idea but there is something about Oliver that calls to her in a way that nothing ever has before. Is this the start of something real, or could she just be another vice to the man who is trying rebuild his life or will she have her heart shattered beyond repair when all is said and done?
Oliver Flynn can never be accused of not living his life his way but it isn’t in a way that he can be proud of, so he has finally made a promise and it is one that he intends to keep, he can see how his recklessness is affecting his family and stopping him from building a real life for himself. Making a vow to his dad and sister to stay sober and celibate but that was before Luna Locke entered his life with her light, he suddenly finds that he has a new addiction in the form of a fashion punk chick that he cannot stay away from but above all he wants to help her deal with her parents’ divorce and be the man she needs. But Oliver has more secrets than people are aware of and fears the disappointment he is sure Luna will look at him with. Can Oliver beat his demons and be the man that he was always meant to be and will he finally feel unconditional love from Luna that she shows him all the time?
This was an extremely real book, I felt like I was right there feeling what each of the two character go through in their journey. Luna was so switched on for an eighteen year old and Oliver broke my heart several times during this book, with his fear of disappointing everyone and how his friends and family perceive him I just wanted to shake him and then hug him. So I can safely say that this book gave me a bit of a book hangover. Would I recommend this book, yes but be prepared to deal with the aftermath. 5***** book all the way.
Ollie is deliciously angst but Luna brings her silvery light into his heart
Angst, but you know you're going to get that in a Crystal Kaswell book.
Oliver is being forced by his actions, the law, and his father to be sober for the first time in years. He's holed himself up in his bedroom listening to grunge, white-knuckling through the program he's in. He hates it. He just wants to get thru it so he can drink again. No matter how much it'll disappoint his Dad. It won't surprise him tho.
Enter Luna, his sister's best friend.
She needs to get away from home for a bit and Daisy's family home has always been like home. So she finds herself asking Oliver, and his father Gabe, if she can stay, even though Daisy is away at school.
So Oliver finds himself living with temptation.
Ollie and Luna both fight their attraction, mostly because of Daisy, but they also become friends throughout their time together. More so than before.
We are taken along as Ollie struggles with his sobriety. As he and his father learn to deal with each other. Coming clean to those who have always expect him to be drunk. And the one who brings a flask and alcohol everywhere and is a regular ladies man. AND he's trying to not ruin his sister's relationship with her best friend and his new obsession.
Luna is dealing with her moms and the breakup of her entire world. Moving in with Daisy's family has opened her eyes even more to how HOT she finds Oliver.
Neither of them want to hurt Daisy if everything goes sideways, but sometimes chemistry is hard to deny.
Both of them discover a new way forward and one where they aren't alone on the journey.
And I love their Halloween costumes! That was funny!
In the end, his broody ways need her light. They compliment each other perfectly.
I can't wait for Gabe's story!!

Another amazing story! Can I just say how sad I am that this serious is over although they are stand alone the three stories do intertwine in a way. I absolutely loved the story of Oliver and Luna. Both coming together in a time where they were both hurting but finding that in the end they both loved each other and would find away to make life work.

Oliver & Luna’s Tender And Heartbreaking Story Captivates As They Lean On One Another For Support! Oliver Is A Real Surprise – Once He Puts Down The Bottle He Becomes A Pillar Of Strength.
This book reads perfectly as a standalone. It is, however, the third book in the Inked Love series, which is a spin-off of the Inked Hearts series.
About the series:
This series picks up where The Baby Bargain, book eight of Inked Hearts series, leaves off. There Chase agreed to help Ariel, his best friend's sister, get pregnant. In book one of this series, Chase is now the manager of the new sister shop about a twenty minute walk away. Chase works at Inked Love tattoo parlor with his best friend and brother-in-law Forest, as well as Forest and Ariel’s younger brother Holden, Holden’s best friend Oliver, Patrick (a.k.a. Trick), and Darren (a.k.a. Dare).
In book one, Faking It (formerly called The Best Friend Bargain), Ariel's brother Forest gets his own book with his best friend next door and social media influencer Skye. They find love after years of skirting their feelings for one another. As the first book opens, Ariel is roughly six months pregnant and has moved into Chase's apartment.
Book two, The First Taste, is Holden’s story. It takes place a few months later. Holden’s best friend Oliver and Oliver’s little sister Daisy have struggled after their parents’ marriage collapsed due to their mother’s addiction. As Daisy turns eighteen and is about to leave for UC Berkley, she looks to Holden, her long-time crush, to help her bridge the gap from adolescence to adulthood.
In this book:
Oliver Flynn, twenty-one, is a disappointment to everyone. The most important person in his life is his little sister Daisy, and after everything that happened with her a year ago he never wants to disappoint her again. He still can’t forgive his best friend Holden for sleeping with her at the end of the summer, before she left for UC Berkley. It was a betrayal, regardless of the fact that they claim to be in love. Holden broke his trust. But Oliver has his own problems to deal with now, and the pressure on him is intense. His father is riding him – the state of California has its say as well now. Everyone has told him he has a drinking problem, but they don’t understand. The booze and the hookups are just a way to forget, to get a release, and he can quit whenever he wants. If only the cost of living weren’t so expensive he would move out of his father’s house in a heartbeat, but he promised Daisy he would stay at home at least a year.
Luna Locke, eighteen, has just started her freshman year at UCLA. She is single, having been told months ago by her ex-boyfriend of eighteen months that she is too much. That hadn’t exactly helped her self-esteem. Still, she has a busy class schedule and swim practice in the afternoons. She is lucky that she gets to live at home with her parents because rent in L.A. is outrageous. Her mother Allison is a successful CEO, driven by ambition and serious in nature. Divya, her other mother, is full of love and warmth. Divya is the fun mother. Luna may be biologically related Allison, and share some of her tough attitude, but she also shares some of Divya’s colorful traits. Luna thought they were madly in love, so when they sat her down and told her they are divorcing, it felt like a betrayal. She saw no signs of it coming and now feels like she has been living a lie. She spent half her childhood in her best friend Daisy’s home, and with no other obvious place to turn, so goes to the Locke home for refuge.
As this book opens, it is October and Ariel’s baby is two months old. Holden has agreed to be sober and is four weeks into a ten week commitment. He has kept this fact to himself, though. Gabe Locke worries that Luna’s presence may be a problem for Oliver, but he also knows that Oliver really needs a friend in Daisy’s absence. Luna’s parents understand she needs some space, so Luna temporarily moves into the Locke guest room.
Oliver and Luna’s story is tender and heartbreaking. In Daisy’s absence, Oliver and Luna lean on one another for support. They bond over coffee and cooking, and Oliver more than most understands the feelings that Luna is sorting through as she watches her family fall apart. Finding purpose in being there for her helps him get outside of his own head as well. And seeing it happen to Luna in real-time helps give him a new perspective on his own family’s destruction. They are both in crisis mode as their relationship strengthens and they contemplate crossing the line. Together they try to mend their broken hearts. The couple earns a beautiful ending.
Oliver and Luna have long been attracted to one another when she moves into the Locke home, so their chemistry is off that charts from the beginning. Their playful banter is fabulous, and I love that they bond over coffee. But Oliver is a real surprise here. There is so much more to the drunken fool that appeared in previous books. Underneath he is all silent but deeply—feeling, and devoted to the people that he loves. Once he puts down the bottle, he is a pillar of strength.
Oliver and Luna’s heartwarming story deals with alcoholism, divorce, trust, and betrayal. It is beautifully written. The plot is fairly simple. The characters are carefully crafted and three-dimensional. The story is written in first person. The POV alternates between Oliver and Luna. I rate this book five stars.
I received an advance copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I flew through this in a day, so I suppose it couldn't have been that bad?? It felt like an entire book of dialogue, and there was literally no plot/storyline other than they wanted to sleep with one another. Not a fan.
I have read every book 📗 in this series and this one was just as great as the 1st. It talks a lot about alcoholism and (coffee ☕ of course) so it was really eye 👁️ opening. I liked it. Well done!!!!!!
Luna and Oliver, we finally get their story and oh it’s a doozy. Both struggling with the present end up living in the same house and trying not to act on their feelings. But it doesn’t take long for a kiss to turn into more. But they need to figure out if either is ready for forever. This book was great, I loved Oliver and Luna’s dynamic. Luna is sassy and fun and Oliver is so very broody. Total opposites. And as they say......opposites attract.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
We had met Luna and Oliver in the previous book. And I will say that I had them pegged, I assumed I knew exactly who they were and how they were going to connect in their book. Boy was I wrong.
Luna wasn't at all the party girl that I thought she was and she had a depth of character that really impressed me.
Oliver to guess he had drinking problem but this book clearly dig deeper into that and passed that to who he really is.
The thing I really enjoyed most about this book was the open and honest ending to the book. It wasn't all hearts and flowers and a happily ever after. It was true life with uncertainty and a happily in this moment.
Luna has always been off limits to Oliver. He has always seen her though. Now when both are dealing with issues in their lives they lean on each other and discover they need each other. The other knows how to provide the other with the support and care they need. I am so happy to finally read Oliver's story. He is absolutely one of my favorite characters. His growth over the course of the Inked Love series is heartwarming. I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved Luna and Oliver's story. So overflowing with emotion and tender moments. It was both heartwarming and heartbreaking at times. This book is part of the Inked Love Series but can be read as a standalone. If you've read some of the other books you will recognize some of the characters in this book. The world of addiction is often a cruel one and Oliver has lots of problems to conquer. I read an advance copy of this book via the author and voluntarily chose to review it.
I had such high hopes for this book and I don’t think it was necessary bad. There’s one spicy scene in here that’s 🤪 but like j just found it was boring and hard to get into. It took me about 3 months to finish it and I honestly just skimmed the last like 80 pages and just read the talking to get the idea of what was going on
I dont know what to really say about this book. It was cute but it put me in a reading slump. It wasn't something I was itching at the finish and it definitely wasn't a book that I couldn't put down. The only reason ill probably remember ever reading it is because the main guy is a tattoo artist and I was getting tattooed while I read it.
I received this as an advanced readers copy. I loved Luna & Oliver! Oliver’s struggles and triumphs were so real and heartbreaking. As always I love Crystals form of writing and the way she tells a story! This is another don’t miss! Luna is headstrong and fierce and the love is fire!
Honestly, not great. The banter was boring and honestly annoying to follow. I didn’t even finish it because I was so bored. I read this genre a lot and this just didn’t do it for me.
A Beautifully Heartfelt Story & Wonderful Listen🎧📚🎧
The Rule Breaker By: Crystal Kaswell Narrated by: Kai Kennicott, Wen Ross
Crystal Kaswell delivers another fabulous novel in her “Inked Love” series, a series of standalone novels of interconnected characters. This book is Oliver Flynn and Luna Locke’s story, Oliver is Luna’s best friend Daisy’s older brother. Daisy is in a relationship with Holden who happens to be Oliver’s best friend, their story was told in “The First Taste”. This book, like her others is well written and well told, the story grabs my attention right from the start and captivates it the entire time. Ms. Kaswell is a gifted author, I enjoy her writing style and her way with words, the dialogue and banter she creates is remarkable and mesmerizing. Her characters are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with. Each are broken in their own ways, Luna’s parents shared some heartbreaking news with her and she is devastated. She cannot deal them and needing a place to stay she goes to her best friend Daisy’s house, though Daisy is away at college she asked if she could stay there a few nights. Her brother Oliver was fine with that and gave her the guest room, it was practically her second home growing up anyway. Oliver is having his own struggles, battling inner demons and issues. The two wind up confiding in each other Oliver can relate to what she is going through. Both have been attracted to each other for a while but for the sake of Daisy a romantic relationship can not happen. Only that attraction grows even more and neither one wants to deny it, but it may be too complicated for them. I loved how everything plays out in this book, there is a lot of depth to the story and it is beautifully plotted. Crystal Kaswell does an amazing job covering heavy topics in this book, dealing with self worth issues, alcoholism, broken marriages, betrayal and trust issues and learning to overcome hurdles and obstacles life throws their way. Thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are fabulous narrators and voice artists. They continue to bring these characters and their stories to life. They did an awesome job portraying the characters, taking each role and making it their own. Their duet performance enhances the story even more, you can hear how much heart they put into their work as they capture all fo the characters emotions as well as their chemistry which is reflected in their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen🎧
Oliver Flynn is a damaged by his parent's divorce, and a reckless bad boy with an alcohol problem. After the incident happened, Oliver promised he would get sober while still living at home. Enter Luna Locke, a punk rock loving, fashionista who is having a hard time dealing with her parent's divorce, while also fighting the urge not to jump on her best friend's older brother for the ride of her life. When Oliver's kid sister's best friend and all around hot chick, Luna needs a place to hide away, Oliver finds he can't stop thinking about, her and wanting her even though he has a vow of celibacy hanging over his head. He wants her but also wants to be there for her through her parent's divorce, while remaining sober.
While struggling to remain sober, Oliver finds a new vice calling his name, his little sister's sexy best friend, Luna. While he wants to stay the course and succed in his promises to his dad and his sister, Luna pops into Oliver's world and home changing his whole perspective on life. Luna needs space from her parent's divorce, but, she wants absolutely no space from the sinfulness that is Oliver Flynn. Moving into Oliver and Daisy's house does help build her friendship with Oliver and keeps him sober all at the same time, but Oliver' has a secret and he is afraid when it comes out Luna will see him as the disappointment he feels he is to everyone. Can Luna and Oliver fight their feelings for each other or will they follow their hormones straight into love?
Crystal yet again blew me out of the water with her amazing story telling skills! I find Oliver's struggles with sobrity to be refreshingly true as well ask his feelings of disappointment in himself and how he thinks other perceive him. Luna's ability to adjust to the plethora of difficult situations coming at her at one time, really shows a maturity level most eighteen year olds and some older adults still do not possess. I love how this story while it is a slow burn keeps you enticed with all the hot flirting! I loved the recognition from Oliver that while he wanted to put Luna first, he had to work through his own demons too in order to be a better man. Absolutely amazing story!
“You’re ridiculous” This book is about Oliver and Luna. He works at Inked Love tattoo parlour, and is struggling with his new-found and forced sobriety and how boring it is. He wants a real woman in his bed, someone like Luna, who’s off-limits as his sister Daisy’s best friend. Mid-fantasy he hears a noise downstairs, it’s Luna calling out to him! He wonders if he has developed magic powers, somehow summoning the object of its affection. His panic and her mantra about what she sees is hilarious! Luna asks if she can stay at their house, even though Daisy is away at Berkley. Her parents are getting a separation after her mother Alison was unfaithful. And Luna just doesn’t want to be there. My heart was breaking for Luna’s family break-up and the effect on her. Oliver and Daisy’s dad Gabe says she can stay, but he also reads Oliver the riot act about staying away from her, and focusing on his sobriety, and on being a supportive ‘friend’ to Luna. Oliver and Luna have always teased and taunted each other, with a bit of friendly flirting thrown into the mix. But the two of them have real feelings for each other. But they both also love Daisy and would never want to hurt her. But living in such close quarters will they be able to resist their temptation? There is so much involved in this story. There really is so much going on, and not just with the two main characters. It was nice to see the characters I enjoyed so much in the last book too. Despite their differences and issues they may have with each other, they’re a close-knit group. I love it! This story was also a real emotional roller-coaster, and I loved it – even when I was anxious, wondering what was going to happen next. It’s sweet and steamy, full of sexual tension, funny and sassy, sobering and confronting, and sad and joyous. I was disappointed when the book ended, because I wasn’t ready for it to finish yet. I need to know what happens next… to everyone! And I got some great tattoo ideas from here, and yep, everything sounds better in Latin. I give this book four and a half tattooed stars. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book gripped my heart in the best—and worst—way possible. I went in expecting an easy, maybe even funny, roommate romance, but what I got was something that dug deep and left a lasting impression. It definitely doesn’t pull any punches. It’s brutally honest, dealing with issues that so many teens and young adults can relate to, whether they’ve lived through them or know someone who has.
Oliver’s story completely wrecked me. His struggle with addiction isn’t just a plot device—it’s raw, painful, and incredibly real. The way the book ties his issues back to his mother’s self-medicating and the fallout from his parents' toxic divorce is heartbreaking. You can feel how much that mess shaped him, and his fight to break free from it is both inspiring and devastating. But what really got me was his need for his dad’s approval. That fear of being seen as a failure, of always being the family disappointment? It hit hard. But his promise to stay clean for a year, and the strength it took to stick to that, shows just how much heart Oliver has. You can’t help but root for him, even when he’s struggling to root for himself.
Luna’s story felt quieter but no less important. Her parents' divorce wasn’t ugly like Oliver’s—they parted ways before things could turn toxic—but that didn’t make it easier for her. If anything, it left her feeling like her whole life had been quietly dismantled while she wasn’t looking. That sense of betrayal, of feeling like you’ve been lied to even when no one technically lied, is something so many teens can relate to. Watching her try to make sense of it all, while navigating the usual chaos of growing up, was beautiful in its own way. Her pain wasn’t as loud as Oliver’s, but it was just as real.
What I loved most is how these two stories come together. It’s not just about falling in love—it’s about healing, growing, and facing the hard stuff head-on. This book shows that life can be messy and complicated, but it’s also full of moments worth fighting for. It’s a story that sticks with you long after the last page, and honestly, I’m still thinking about it.
This book...was not the one for me. I was so excited to read it and the blurb had me so interested but it just wasn't my style. I'm an anti-love, anti-mush kinda person in my real life but when it comes to my books, I want all of the feels, all of the cheese and a tonne of emotion. And unfortunately, I just didn't feel that between the main characters.
The Rule Breaker was beautifully written and had an interesting storyline that deals with addiction really well. It just missed the mark on the heat and connection between the protagonists for me. I didn't connect with the characters like I have in other books. Luna was portrayed as a badass, punk pixie and that's normally my jam. But to be honest with you, I just didn't feel like enough was revealed about her feelings for the leading lad enough for me to be like, 'Yes! These two are meant to be!'. It was mainly focused on their physical connection and a lot of awkward conversations about their sex lives that didn't really lead anywhere. And Oliver. I don't really know how to feel about him. You can tell he wants to help Luna but he comes across as just kind of emotionless when it comes to life. He was described as grungy, which I totally get, but it was like there was no real personality there that I could empathise with. I actually connected more with the secondary characters Olivia and Holden whose relationship was funny, steamy and so obviously perfect.
I have no doubt in my mind that this book would steal the hearts of many people and I can definitely see the appeal. It just wasn't for me in this instance. I couldn't get into it and it didn't fill my cynical heart with joy. Nevertheless, if you love grungy heroes who do their best to help the women they love through difficult times, whilst facing demons of their own demons, and awkward sex conversations, this is definitely for you! It hurts when I don't completely love a book, but I know that many of you out there will. I'd be interested to hear what other people think.
The Rule Breaker is Oliver and Luna’s story and the 3rd book in the Inked Love series by Crystal Kaswell- while it can be read as a stand alone, you definitely get much more from the story from already knowing the characters from the previous books.
You might remember Oliver as the broody tattoo artist, overprotective big brother with a possible drinking problem and Luna as the wild, flirty and boundary pushing best friend from The First Taste, but you really get to discover who they are in The Rule Breaker. Oliver has had some major life changes- his sister is involved with his best friend, he’s stuck in a promise that he made to her and living with his dad and after a life altering mistake he is trying his hand at sober living for the first time in years. Luna has always thought she had the perfect family, but when that illusion comes crashing down around her- she runs to the only place she feels safe- her best friend Daisy’s house. Only Daisy hours away at college, but she is still welcomed in by Daisy’s brother Oliver. There has always been a little spark between them but nothing that either of them have ever wanted to explore for Daisy’s sake. But the more time they spend together, sharing their troubles, insecurities and intimacy- the more they begin to feel for each other.
I absolutely loved this book! Crystal has this way of writing her characters that you can’t help but fall in love with them and root for their HEA. Getting to see behind Oliver’s hard exterior to the caring but broken boy inside and finding that behind Luna’s fierce presence is an insecure girl who just wants to be wanted for who she is- is everything. Ollie and Luna lean on each other as friends, can accept each other for exactly who they are- flaws and all- but most importantly can love each other and give a hand so that they each can continue growing.
Ah, to be so young again! This author's talent really lies in evoking all the youthful arrogance and exuberance that makes young love so intoxicating. Oliver still lives with his dad, but his sister, Daisy, is off to college and Oliver hasn't yet reconciled himself to her new-found love with his best friend, Holden. Now, Luna - Daisy's best friend - needs a place to crash while her parents are splitting up, so she turns to her second home for a safe place to regroup and figure out how her new life is going to work.
The sparks have always been flying between Oliver and Luna, but neither one has ever taken the risk of seeing if there's anything there. A near-tragic event has Oliver attempting a major change in his life, rendering him not quite able to grapple with the varying emotions involved with acting on his searing attraction to his sister's best friend.
This story's languid pace makes it easy for the reader to fall for both Ollie and Luna, and for Gabe, too, although we don't get nearly enough of him beyond his sage dad role. There's plenty of steamy action once the romance really takes off, but the depth of emotion can't be ignored as their hearts start taking center stage and they're forced to confront the issues they were hoping they were too distracted for.
Kudos to the author for a writing style that feels refreshingly authentic for her college-age characters. Oliver and Luna's romance has a wonderful HEA, and I was completely hooked on their story from beginning to end. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I received an ARC for an honest Review. Just finished reading The Rule Breaker Oliver and Luna's story and what a story it was, I couldn't put it down. Oliver is the known party boy of inked hearts but in this story his real issues come out and my heart breaks for him. Addiction is hard no matter what it is and feeling like a disappointment 24/7 does serious harm to one's self belief. His only saviour is his sketches and his tattooing until Luna his sister Daisy's best friend seeks a favour of staying at his and his dad's Gabes (swoon) while her mom's separate. Luna is also in a position of feeling low and vulnerable just like Oliver. They start a real friendship, the humour between the 2 of them is off the charts along with the lust they have for each other from over the years, one thing leads to another and well.... Sometimes even when your not looking love finds you.. Will they be able to make this work when Oliver is still so mad at his best friend Hunter for falling in love with his sister Daisy when he's doing the exact same with Daisy's best friend... I loved reading their story it was a roller-coaster of a ride. Totally wanted to hug both Oliver and Luna as both were having rough times. I think you handled both the addiction and family issues really well and the story line was great. I can't wait for the next book to see whose next.. Kinda hoping we hear bout Gabe because omg Crystal he sounds like one hell of a fox...
