The Dating Lesson

Rate this book
Dating lessons for college students like me:
1. Don't get into anything serious.
2. Don't mess with exciting older men.
3. Don't send flirty texts to your new professor

Guess what? I broke every lesson before my first day of class.
In my defense, I didn't know that the hottie I was chatting with on my dating app would turn out to be the guy deciding my grades.
Sitting in that classroom, his intense eyes watching me cross my legs, his lips curled in a smirk that's perfect for kissing in the dark... is beautiful torture.
He knows too much about what I like. It makes me nervous, and it drives me wild.
I'm obsessed.
So is he.
But if we get caught, both of our futures are going into the garbage.

Take a lesson from me-- don't date your professor.
People think it'll stay a secret... but it won't.

This was ridiculous. I said what I said.

This novella focuses on Kimmy, 21-year-old 1-year law student and Leo, 36-year-old law professor at her school. They meet online before the classes begin and once they learn of their situation (student-teacher), they immediately decide to continue with the relationship.

First of all...what is even the point of writing "forbidden" teacher-student romance if you have your characters absolutely recklessly unconcerned with getting caught. I swear, they were making such idiotic careless mistakes, you'd think there was some kind of competition to get caught as soon as possible. Seriously, they could only be more obvious about their affair if they made a post about it on instagram or wrote it on their foreheads.

Secondly...everything was just so over-the-top and inconsistent? Kimmy's roommate and her DP orgies while Kimmy is in the room (??!)...Kimmy and Leo NOT ONCE talking about whether they should continue with the relationship or not...And Kimmy's character overall.

Oh Kimmy...I know it's a novella and it's short but damn. Her character basically had two settings - lusting after Leo and pursing a career in law because Justice™. Don't get me wrong, I found her motivation for becoming a lawyer very admirable and author actually touched upon, albeit extremely briefly, some important issues and faults in (US but could probably easily translate to some other countries too) justice system. Still, I didn't appreciate the way it was all repeated over and over again, like hammer to my head.

Especially since it was hard to believe she took her academic and future career seriously when she didn't even hesitate for 5 hot seconds before having a quickie with Leo in his classroom w/o locking the door. I mean, I just expected a minute of inner conflict or something, but after almost getting busted she would internally beat herself over being stupid (and, I cannot stress this enough, her behaviour was the epitome of stupid - and not because of the affair itself but because of the carelessness) and then do the same stupid shit - and stupider - all over again.

*sigh*

What more can I say, this had potential but ended up being totally unrealistic and just...flat. I wish I could say the smut was worth it but to be honest...While there were some hot scenes and Kimmy and Leo had decent chemistry, most of the sex scenes reminded me of over-the-top, 100% male gaze, porn. I didn't need them to gaze lovingly in each other's eyes every second of it but too many times, it was either too cheesy or too mechanical to enjoy.

Disappointing.

2.5 rounded up to 3 stars.

First, I honestly have no idea what the title has to do with the book.

It’s in the heroine’s POV only which isn’t my favorite. These two characters are supposed to have a deep connection but after they meet in person all Leo does is have smex with her at his convenience then doesn’t see her outside the classroom. It feels very skeezy and like she’s being used.

Leo doesn’t seem to care in the slightest if people find out about their relationship. The secrecy is one of the best things about the trope.

Kimmy makes the decision to break up with him. It’s the only thing to do for her reputation and career and it just… doesn’t happen. He doesn’t even have to try to convince. She just lays eyes on him and is like “oh god, I hope he doesn’t break up with me!” Girl, weren’t you going to break up with him??? That was the most infuriating thing I was hoping for a good dark spot then just… nothing.

The good: If you can get past the cheesiness of their first steamy encounter most of the rest are super hot. There’s even plenty of back door stuff which you don’t find a lot.

Scattered and dirty

I had trouble with the FMC not wanting to ruin her reputation and not be taken taken serious as an up and coming law student. Then she sends nudes and videos to her online sexting friend.
For this book being a short novella the author tired to pack in a lot into the book and frankly made the boom feel rushed.
Now the spice, steam and dirty talk was on point.
I also would like to see a book about Brenna, something tells me she has a story to be told.

The characters are well developed and engaging and the chemistry is undeniable and steamy. The storyline flowed smoothly from beginning to the end and kept me entertained throughout. The author always delivers great reads I have yet to be disappointed.

This is a delicious read. I loved this age gap, student/teacher romance. I felt that the story had a good balance between fun and serious. Leo and Kimmy were very likable characters. Their chemistry sparks and their interactions practically scorch the pages. It's a bit cute, a lot sweet, kind of over-the-top and certainly steamy. I am choosing to post an unbiased review.

I was honoured to get an advance copy and this is my honest review.

Kimmy Stevens & Professor Leo Whitford meet on a dating app before university starts, he's 36 & originally they only planned on being 'a fun distraction by being a regular fuck buddy'

With all the chatting & hot sexting they do over the phone Kimmy has no idea where he lives or where he works it isn't until she's running late for her very first lesson & she walks in & recognises the voice she melts.

Kimmy also has to deal with her new roommate but there is a part of her that doesn't quite trust her.....

A Sexy and Surprisingly Serious Foray into Being Hot for the Teacher...

2020 has been a year of me needing quick and easy reads. Let’s face it, this year has been heavy enough, so heavy in fact that the dark and devious, violent filled dystopian tropes I normally prefer have been more difficult to embrace. That being said, I still like something a bit to the side of everyday, something dirtier, messier, and far more complicated than your normal, vanilla romance fodder. And there are few better authors for such lusty, forbidden yet heartfelt stories out there than Penny Wylder; her latest book, “The Dating Lesson” is yet another glorious example of why Wylder is my go-to gal for topics labeled “taboo”.

“The Dating Lesson” is a sexy, rollercoaster of a book that will suck you into the deliciously dirty world of fast paced, online hookups, and the complications they can bring to everyday life. The story of Kimmy, a twenty-one year old law student, a young woman determined to become a lawyer and help defend the defenseless. A woman resolute to aid those unable to afford proper legal representation, painfully familiar with how they are often railroaded into jail cells merely because they could not afford the help they needed. Poor people like her own father and brother, both of whom are sitting in jail, falsely convicted of a crime they did not commit, and in desperate need of help to right the wrongs that bulldozed them into prison in the first place. And Leo, a thirty-six year old law professor, who unbeknownst to him, begins a scorching hot online affair with his soon to be student, Kimmy. A woman he finds on a dating app they both use, and begins a torrid encounter that rocks both their worlds.

What follows is page after magnificent page of blistering chemistry and heart wrenching worry and despair. Here, Wylder paints a human connection so intense it is impossible to look away for even a second, even if it will make the timid blush bright red! Here she writes a connection so scandalous, that it in turn creates a situation so impossible for Leo and Kimmy that is finds Leo risking his job and life as he knows it, and Kimmy risking her future, as well as, the future freedom of the two men she is working so hard for. All for the sake of what is happening between them, something so wild, so irrational that both know they should avoid it at all costs but are emotionally unable to stop. An instant connection between two people so feverish, so beyond comprehension, it will leave, you, panting…

My only complaint here is that it felt stunted in parts. I honestly could have read another thirty chapters on these two. And would have loved to have had an expanded view of the time span following the bar incident with Brenna and the epilogue.  And I especially would have loved to have read more of the aftermath that followed the final rumors interaction at the coffee shop.  Skipping over those following months and years was disappointing to say the least, especially considering the smart and strong character development woven throughout. Characters I would have loved to have followed throughout the entire arc of their growth as a couple and as individuals dealing with the consequences of their choices.

Here once again Wylder writes a female protagonist that is equal in intelligence, drive, and skill to that of the male. She pens a story world that is intricate and thoughtful, weaving fantasy and reality together seamlessly, creating something exhilarating and fierce. It will give you all of the feels and punch you in all the emotional places, leaving you begging for more Kimmy and Leo.

Wow. I absolutely Loved this!!
The characters are so endearing. This is not dual POV, so we only get to see the inside of Kimmy’s head, and I usually miss the male perspective with a singular POV, but I was so drawn in by her thoughts and feelings that I didn’t miss hearing about his even once.
The sex was hot as all hell. The plot was engaging, semi-realistic, and so entertaining. The ending was everything I wanted it to be. I’m just so pleased right now. I think this is my favorite book I’ve read from Penny, so far.
Kimmy is starting her first year of law school.(I’m pretty sure it’s her first..) She finds this guy on a dating app she went on to kill time, find someone who will help satisfy her healthy libido. She doesn’t want anything too serious that could distract her from doing her best at school.
They’ve been talking for a few weeks now without meeting. He’s fun to talk to. Flirty, intelligent, mature, HOT. He’s 15 years older than her but that does exactly zero things to detract from her attraction to him...
...aaaaand first class on day one she sees him in front of the class, impatiently waiting on her to drop her stunned ass into a damn seat.
Ooh, baby. The sparks that fly after that class, could burn down the entire state of California.
Im gonna leave it there so as to not spoil anything for someone wanting to actually read this, but let’s just say things just keep getting better after that.
The sex is so good in this. They have a few less than private moments that could’ve really fucked everything up for them if they got caught. But goddamn is it hot.
The plot had just enough drama and angst to keep me locked in, waiting to see how they got over those hurdles. Remember. This is a made up story. There’s gonna be elements that are too lucky to be real life. I don’t know about you, but personally, I read romance for the fantasy. I almost never mind when reality gets bent just a little in favor of the main characters’ HEA.
It’s not too bad in this book, in my opinion. Like I said. They were just a little unrealistically lucky in a few places.
This was written so well that, honestly, I would’ve been so unhappy if anything different than what she wrote would’ve happened.
If you’re looking for a short read filled with filthy sex, a soft dom who is so sweet at times it melts your heart, a little redemption on the side, romance for days, and a heroine who’s smart, articulate, and adventurous, this is it, honey.
Honestly, this book is so close to 5 stars, it’s not even funny.

Well, this one was a huge disappointment. I was expecting to like it as much as the other student-professor stories but no such luck. Spoilers ahead, you're been warned.
If Kimmy didn't get this sob backstory of her dad and brother going to jail for a crime they didn't commit and how she pretty much dedicated her life to becoming a lawyer and getting them out I probably would've liked it more. Also if we didn't see her being distracted as hell after meeting Leo and only getting told later that she was totes doing super duper well, top of her class in everything because fucking her professor after each class, and blowing him during his other class is not distracting her at all. Yes, they have sex during his break between classes, they leave the door unlocked and get almost caught with her buck ass naked and him balls deep inside her. She ends up under his desk, he's sitting with his cock out because it's so hard to put it back in his pants *eyeroll* and she thinks she's stupid for all of 10 seconds before she starts blowing him while he's giving a lecture.
And excuse me, don't use Brenna or whatever her name was sleeping with people as something against her (which imo it very much was) when little miss perfect was fucking her professor whole semester.
And of course he didn't get sacked for fucking his student and then not long after she graduates he leaves his job because turns out practising law is more awesome than teaching it. And little miss perfect is the best lawyer ever.
And don't get me wrong, I also disliked Leo. He's so proud of his classes being hard to get into but he half-asses at least a couple of Kimmy's, including sexting her during one because he was jelaous of someone else and saying that dude definitely has a small dick (fuck you professor dickhead). He's reckless, doesn't give a fuck about anything, is agressive and dumb.
The lack of consequences is even more frustrating since in another story the professor had to resign for the girl not to lose her scholarship. Here the university is like "fuck all y'all want, who gives a damn. Rules, what rules? Rulez are made to be broken YOLO."

No longer a fantasy
This book is about Kimmy and Leo. They have undeniable chemistry. It’s evident in their text message exchanges, as they get to know each other, not-so-innocently. The 15 year age doesn’t seem to matter. They met on a dating site, as she was just after a bit of a fun and uncomplicated distraction, someone to take the edge off. As she’s about to start her first year of law school, she knows every spare minute will be spent studying. She doesn’t need a permanent relationship to take away from that commitment.
As she arrives at her first class late, all eyes are on her as she opens the door. A booming voice greets her from the lectern at the front of the class. It’s her professor, and it’s Leo! Realising she’s been having an affair with her professor is NOT what she had planned, and will NOT help her with her cause for studying law in the first place! Kimmy plans on deleting and blocking him, and getting rid of any proof that they ever knew each other at all as soon as her class is over. No guy is worth the risk, even if he is one of the funniest and $exiest guys she had met in a very long time. But that dirty and delicious text he sends her in class does NOT help! What does he have in mind for her now?
This is a great read… full of drama and plenty of action, if you know what I mean!? It’s certainly a lot hotter than I expected, which isn’t a bad thing, just surprising! The characters were fun and honest and passionate, and oh so brazen! Her college roommate Brenna also surprised me with her kinky side ;) I really enjoyed the epilogues and how hard they worked together for her family, and theirs. I give this book four and a half stars.

Kimmy, 21, is about to start law school and went on a dating site and has been chatting online with Leo, 36. They seem to have chemistry and talk for hours and things get racy and they exchange nude pictures, but they don’t share any personal information. Kimmy is shocked when she walks into her first class and realizes Leo is her professor. She assumes they will have to stop their relationship because she doesn’t want any distractions from her studies and he is her teacher but Leo is insistent on continuing the relationship and they even have steamy sex in the classroom. Will there be consequences for their relationship from the school? Will their relationship continue and can Kimmy and Leo find lasting happiness?

I enjoyed this shorter forbidden relationship story and give the book 3.5 stars. The author gave us a lot of background on Kimmy but we never learned too much about Leo. There was the idea of the forbidden relationship but the whole issue just seemed to disappear and the college never even questioned them although their affair was common knowledge among the students. I was disappointed that there was no mention of any consequences for their actions but the epilogue was a good ending to their story.

The Dating Lesson is a steamy, fast paced, age gap, professor/student romance that will suck you in from the very first page.

I loved Kimmy. She wanted to make things better for her family and right the wrongs that were dealt to her father and brother. She is hard working, determined and focused, though, she does like to have a little fun. Leo loves being a professor, he has a reputation at the school as being a good professor and equally good looking.

Kimmy and Leo met on a dating app, everything started as a little harmless texting, then progressed into sending pictures and videos. They had a connection, they had fun. What they didn’t expect was that Kimmy would walk right into his class. Things should have stopped, however, they only escalated. I loved the chemistry between Kimmy and Leo. Yes, there was LOADS of steaminess and physical attraction, but there was also a deeper connection between them. They supported each other and had so many sweet moments together.

If you’re looking for a age gap, professor/student night time read The Dating Lesson is one you’ll want to one click!

This novella was just ok for me.

The first person POV made Kimmy seem immature. I felt like I was reading about a teenager instead of a young adult. There was a lot of telling in this book instead of showing. It stood out to me that there wasn't much dialogue between Kimmy and Leo throughout the story. Just a few statements here and there and then narratives informing the reader of conversations that occured between them. I'm assuming this is because the sex scenes are the main focus and "events" of this book instead of their growing relationship, but the lack of balance made their "love" seem forced to me.

I also would have liked to have had Leo"s POV at some point. Having his POV may have helped their "love" seem more believable.

As for the sex scenes, I felt like they were just ok. Some of them were pretty hot but others seemed immature and cliche.

Overall, I felt like the story was there just to serve as padding around the sex scenes but neither the padding or the sex scenes were particularly interesting to me.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters had a depth to them that was more than how much sex they could have, although they did have an active relationship. But there was a backstory to this novel.

Kimmy has been accepted to law school after college so she can get the qualifications to get her father and brother out of jail after being falsely accused of robbery. Before she starts at law school, she starts texting with a man from a dating site. They have reached the stage of sexting and talking on the phone. After a particular night of raunchy pictures and videos, Kimmy goes to class, but walks in late, only to realise her man is her new professor. They build on their relationship and they work together to get Kimmy through law school and to a law firm who will help her to get her father and brother released from jail. They build a life together and have their happily ever after.

Kimmy and Leo meet through a dating app and start texting. Kimmy is in law school and doesn't have much time for anything serious so this works for her. Leo has no clue who Kimmy is until she walks into his class a few minutes late. Then a connection for the both of them is made. Neither is ready to let what's started between them end. Leo has her stay after class and things get heated between them. Its not long before it gets serious between them. However when a classmate starts rumorsabout Kimmy and Leo things get bad on campus. Will this cause them to end things? Will they get into trouble for being together?

This is a steamy story that will captivate you from beginning to end. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Well, I usually don’t like teacher and student romances, it’s not much my style because, this forbidden type of romance are always a little ludicrous or one person has to give up something in order to make the relationship work.
Said that, this one did not impress me.
The 21 year old “ super mature” kimmy was nothing but immature and a little plain for my liking, I mean, she Ghosted him the entire brake because she didn’t have the guts to break up with him after their relationship was exposed? For crying out loud, what kind of mature girl is that? What kinda lawyer she is, if she can’t confront something simple as a conversation! Where’s the respect towards the other person?
Leo was okay, super filthy, which I super like in this romances, but was the only reason I gave 3 stars.
He knew exactly what he wanted and went for it, no drama, no overthinking, always taking the lead, like a 36 year old man should behave in my opinion.
He saved the book.

I enjoyed this novella. Penny Wylder definitely knows how to do a good spicy scene and (aside from the first novella of hers I read) is able to create a strong connection between her characters. That being said, there were a few things in this novella that made me raise my eyebrow a bit. They definitely got off way too easy after Kimmy's roommate told everyone that she was sleeping with a professor. It kind of lowered the stakes when it was stated that they weren't even questioned about the rumors swirling around campus about them. Also skimming over getting her brother and father out of jail was a tiny bit rushed too, though it makes sense since it took time and this was a novella so I understand not wanting to drag it out too much. I enjoyed getting to see the little peeks at their life after Kimmy graduated. It was pretty cute.

This book is about Kimmy and Leo who met on a dating app before they met face-to-face. They had learned so much about each other, pictures and videos included, except for one important little thing -- that he would be the guy deciding her grades this semester! He was her professor, it turns out, and she was a student in his class.

The twists and turns this story line will take is dizzying, but you will love the characters and their deep feelings for each other. Leo doesn’t want to give her up. But her goal of becoming an attorney to help her father and brother with some legal trouble is important to her and she doesn’t want to lose it all over this situation. What will she choose to do? Grab your copy and see how it all works out.

This very well written story has a good plot as well as interesting characters. These characters interactions are excellent and are well-constructed. The author created a great plot and cast of characters. Cannot wait to read more of her books. This is a must read. Penny Wylder has done it a very good job with a great book. I will be on the lookout for more books by this Author. She actually meets him online through a dating app. He is older than her, but she doesn’t care about the age. He is a professor to her class she ends up running late to, without them knowing. Things take off for them, but then they are discovered by her roommate. Can they make it work?

A deliciously sexy read. Leo and Kimmy were amazing. They have almost instant connection after meeting face to face in a class Leo is teaching after weeks of communicating through a dating app and only knowing each others name. Neither knows where the other lives and have only seen pictures through the texts they send one another. I love how they don't let the fact that they are professor and student stop them from building a life together even with the possibility of repercussions they may face. A steamy and fast paced read that doesn't lose any of the story. Great HEA.

Loved Leo and Kimmy’s story - especially the student-teacher romance aspect!

Kimmy is a hard working law student who has some really personal reasons for wanting to be a lawyer.

Leo is our smart, hot, professor :)

Kimmy met Leo on a dating app and has been talking to him for a while so when the first day of class is upon her, talk about a surprise when she walks into class (late) and can’t wrap her head around why Leo is standing in front of her class!

Lots of super hot scenes (the true PW way) and some drama from some haters give us a steamy, great, quick read with all the trimmings.

I definitely recommend this one!

HOT - Stranger to Lover to Husband! This is about Kimmy and Leo. Leo is the professor in the colleges that Kimmy is attending for law. She actually meets Leo online through a dating app. Leo is older than her, but she doesn’t care about the age. Without knowing that he was a professor to her school, she ends up running late to a class that belonged to Leo. Things take off for them, but then they are discovered by her roommate and it becomes a mess. Leo isn’t giving up but Kimmy has a lot on the line because of her father and brother. This was a steamy, short story with a beautiful ending!

Penny books gets better every time! I love this particular story. It's so unlike the books I read so far this year. This story is interesting, sexy, crazy, and a a beautiful ending. Kimmy is getting ready to go to law school so before she goes she's trying to have some fun. She's intelligent, sweet, beautiful, and down to earth woman. She meets Leo on a dating site. Leo is an older alpha male, sexy, smart, and caring. Turns out he's her professor! What will happen? The writing is amazing! Every word flows throughout the story was beautiful. Amazing work again Penny Wylder 😘

The Dating Lesson is hot and steamy romance that started off the scratch an itch and worked it's way up to an A plus. Kimmy is studying are to be a lawyer, she is determine to help her brother and father out of being wrongly accused. When she met an older man on line she never expect Leo to be her Professor. Leo and Kimmy's chemistry would burn down the university it was so hot. I love how their relationship was not just about having "fun" after they found out who they were to each other. Leo did not give up and was supportive and pushed Kimmy to strive towards her goal.

The Dating Lesson is funny, sexy, and well-written with excellent, easy to connect with characters. Thirty-six year old Leo and twenty-one year old Kimmy meet on a dating app and quickly begin sexting and chatting. When Kimmy walks into her first law school class late, she comes face-to-face with her online beau who also happens to be the professor of her course. The chemistry between these two is off-the-charts and the journey Penny Wylder takes them on is sizzling hot, romantic, and entertaining.

I thought that this book was a great book. I loved Leo and Kimmy together. I loved the connection and the chemistry between these two throughout the book. Even when things were rough for Kimmy, Leo was willing to do anything to keep her, help her and love her. Kimmy has her dreams and Leo has his and they both work with each other to achive those dreams together and also make new ones. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a great HEA, lots of steam, some comedy, and some true loving.

This was such a super hot and steamy novel from start to finish! Kim my and Leo had the attraction to each other that was hot enough to melt the words off the pages of this book! Kimmy and Leo are such likable characters and you really want them to be able to navigate through all their personal issues to make this work to their HEA. Not only that, but you really wanted Kimmy to succeed in her lifelong goal. This book was thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining!
