My name is Maize. Poisonous to the touch. The bastard child of one very dead Dark Fae King. A refugee of a war that freed me from my three-year imprisonment. Eager to explore a kingdom that while not welcoming, could hold everything I’d ever dreamed for. Hope. Hope for a real future. That was if someone didn’t kill me first, due to their hatred of what I represented. I had chosen to return back to the Horde and I knew I’d be held to that choice and the consequences associated with it. I was just hoping that the bad, whether that be in the form of the outright harassment experienced at the Red Masque Academy or a possibly much more sinister plan, would not outweigh the good. I knew that the seven commanders wanted me here. Queen Gray wanted me here. That should be enough for me. Enough to counteract the insecurity I felt on a daily basis of not being wanted. So for now all I could do was explore. Explore what staying meant, my feelings for the men I found myself living with, and more than anything else… exploring who I was becoming as a non-imprisoned woman. I wanted to be stronger than I’d been in the past and focus on healing from the trauma I’d experienced. That small smidgen of hope I had was like a lifeline.
Exploring Fae is book 2 in the Lost In Fae series. This PNR/Fantasy RH is part of an M. Prepare yourself for a strong but haunted MFC that meets men that may be the best or worst thing for her. Undetermined. Book will contain swearing. As well, please be advised that the book contains darker themes including assault, PTSD, and violence. Additionally, sexual themes are suitable for mature audiences +18. Burn level - slow/medium.

Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
This series with this author is going to be my last. I'm not sure if ur in the business of writing good stories, or just trying to make a quick dime, but I'm tired of it. You know damn well this second book is complete filler garbage, and to be honest you do this in ever series you write.. This book took 8 months to come out from the first one, and by the way its has only 13 chapters of nothing, followed on by a cliffhanger, and get this!! That's when a story actually starts taking place! I've never hated a author as much in my life as I do right now. And I would advise you wait the 2 1/2 years or how ever long it takes to finish even one of her series!! Because she will write a good book to get you hooked followed by crumbs almost a year later ever.freaking.time!! God damn disgusted
What on Earth did I just read? This book was intense, and I loved it. Soooooooo much happened, yes I needed all those o’s to get my point across. Seriously everything that happened surprised me so much, and I love that in a book.
This series is part of the Horde universe (and if you’ve not read any of the other books that take place in this world, you should) and it lives up to the same level of craziness that we’ve come to expect from an M Sinclair book.
It opened with drama, and it just didn’t stop. This is one thing I love about M, her second books draw you in and remind you why you love the series.
The relationship development in this book really made me happy, and I love that Maize is finally starting to let her men in. I loved the little bits of background info you get about her men. Honestly, the character development was on point in this book.
Okay so it might have ended on a cliffhanger but come on, we love cliffhangers. Well, I love them, and believe me this met my requirements. It has me ready to do a murder board so that I can figure stuff out. I have so many questions about what’s going to happen next, but honestly, that’s how you know it’s a good book. Plus, it gives me permission to do another re-read.
This was another amazing book by M Sinclair, and I seriously can’t wait to see what comes next. If you love psychotic men, strong FMCs and an action-filled plot, look no further. Finding Fae (book one) Exploring Fae (this book) are for you.
Still not convinced with this serie which took place in the same world as the Red Masques and Vengeance series. I liked Maize but there were still too many monologs and blablabla... Like in the first book... On the other hand, there was finally a bit of action. At the beginning of the book, Maize woke up in the middle of nowhere, freezing, and with serious head injury. She couldn't remember what happened and of course her mates totally freaked out! In this book, Maize began trusting the guys and bonded with them (mostly they marked each other). They all worked on their traumas and insanities and no need to say that the guys are crazy possessive bastards😅 This book was pleasant to read but it wasn't super captivating, just entertaining I would say🤔
Just lost interest in the series So, I've noticed a pattern with her from her were the first books in her series are strong but the second books feel weaker? like (Like Reborn/ Descendants)
The first series I had read from her was The Red Masques- which I generally liked overall!
As for this series, I didn't love the first book but liked it enough to read book 2. I can't pinpoint what is wrong with it, other than it felt like a filler book and it was boring. I also think in general across her series she puts wayyyyyyy to many guys in her harems where it gets confusing to know who is who.
I know she is super creative but I wish she would finish one or two series first before starting soooo many. I think she has like 6 other series going on at the same time?
M Sinclair knows how to write a tortured heroine without making her seem super weak. I love that about her books. Maize is def one of my fave H’s in any of her series. The guys are wonderful, and this book totally left me wanting more. She went through so much in the first book and now shes having to deal with so much MORE (as though the abuse she suffered for years wasnt enough). The thing I like about the harems in M Sinclair’s book is that they freaking LOVE the FMC. Theres no exception here. Another great installment.
I still like Maize and her mates, but I thought too much of the story (especially the Male POVs) were on how obsessed they are with Maize. The overall story hardly progressed. The first and last scene are amazing and attention grabbing but in between little happened. I'm curious about the mystery visitor and found a missed opportunity to not delve into that more.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
fell in love with Maize and her guys in "Finding Fae", and this series only gets better!! ... book 3 cannot come fast enough ... M. Sinclair you are phenomenal!!
WASTE OF TIME TO READ as each book is just an installment of a single story and, despite the third installment being published more than two and a half years ago, there are no more books, meaning readers are left hanging on a cliffhanger with no ending to the story. .
My review before I discovered the author didn't bother to complete the story:
And it got worse.
Bad 1) This book took place over about two days and it was mainly lust, lush and more lust and very little completion 2) Everyone just ignored a key clue from the very beginning of the book 3) The female lead's mind spent 80% of its time in her twat; it didn't matter how badly (one guy was literally yelling in her face) or controlling or disrespectful any love interest was behaving towards her, it was hot, hot, hot in her eyes and she wanted to bang him right here, right now! 4) And yet, for such a horndog, it was ridiculous how timid and... inactive she was in her make-out sessions with them; I mean she wasn't a virgin, one of them had fingered her and another had gone down on her and she hadn't even touched any of them below the waist 5) The female lead's mind spent the other 20% of its time either feeling guilty about shit that wasn't her responsibility or going another round with her insecurities (always ending with how the guys like her so it must be okay; bitch please, they like you because of a forced magic bond, how about you get your head out of your twat and do something to make yourself proud and build up your self-esteem on your own so you have a reason to like you ) 6) Whenever something bad happened to the female lead, she spent more time worried about how it would effect her love interests than what was done to her . At one point, she was inches from death and her first worry was how her almost dying hurt her love interests. I know she has a martyr complex and has low self-esteem but seriously!!! 7) At least one of the love interests continued to violate her mind without her permission and against her wishes 8) The love interests' minds spend 70% of their time in their pants, 20% spinning out about how to hold onto her, 9% rhapsodizing about how amazeballs she was (when she has done nothing special to date) and 1% actually doing anything productive 9) The love interests continued to treat her she was an object in their possession rather than a person in her own right. “It’s not about trust, teacup. It’s about protecting what’s mine.” "Maize wasn’t going anywhere, even if she wanted to." 10) The love interest's level of possessiveness was off-the-charts ridiculous and reeked of selfishness, insecurity and desperation. The love interests' acknowledged just how insane it was... and then keep doing it. At one point, they try to stop her from saying hi to her friend Alex, not because they thought he was a threat, but because he was male (please note: only one of these love interests was a wolf shifter, the rest are fae hybrids so they should be more secure) 11) The love interests' level of controlling behavior was also off-the-charts ridiculous. The lead female wasn't allowed to decide who she spent the day with or who she slept with or where she would live the love interests discussed and/or argued it out amongst themselves, sometimes while she was sitting right there and and then just informed her of their decision. On top of that, It was so gross. (poor birdy, still stuck in a cage) 12) 'My magic tightened around her possessively, the feel of her smoky, cold magic meeting mine as it bent under us, making me smile. When Maize was awake, she always pushed back, So you waited for her to go to sleep and then did something you knew she wouldn't like? 13) The story kept trying to tell me these men were broken but it kept showing me they were all just selfish, self-centered aholes 14) The story also kept trying to tell me these men were dark and dangerous but they never actually did anything (the 3oo year old male witch was the only one who actually did anything violent and protective) 15) And the story kept trying to tell me these men were all different with different traits and personalities but their actions and headspaces were pretty much the same; even the weird ahole melded into the pack 16) The love interests were embarrassingly unprofessionally with her in front of their students; one of them actually turned his back to his students while they were taking an exam to hold her hand and try to get her share what was bothering her 17) 18) What happened to her trauma?
Inconsistencies 1) Last book it was said once she poisoned and cured someone, they wouldn't be able to be more than a few feet from her; in this book, she went go off to a different classroom, into the basement four floors down and horseback riding without one or the other or both and they were fine for all occasions 2) When one love interest was recounting his past trauma, So which is it, does he remember or does he not remember? 3)
Stupidity 1) There was a big speech made by one of the love interests to the student body about treating the love interest with respect (as if any of the love interests would know anything about that /eye roll) but we, the readers, don't get to read any of it, because the female lead was too busy getting all hot and bothered watching the love interest deliver the speech to pay attention to what he was actually saying 2) The female lead was not even a recruit, let alone had earned a commander's rank but the love interests get her a commander's uniform to wear to dinner anyway because apparently being sexually active with a bunch of commanders makes you one! 3) Three physically and sexually abused female teenagers were left orphaned and everyone thinks it great idea to have them live at and attend the all-male academy, the place where the female lead has suffered harassment, attacks, her room being destroyed and a plan to rape her from the student body 4) Worse, they think the female lead who never attended the academy, doesn't understand how it works and can't freakin' fight, despite having years of training, would be a good trainer for them 5) I have a novel idea, ward the freakin' dorm! 6) ' But more so, unless you had a really important reason, you just avoided other people’s mates. ' Mmm... so, if I am female and my male butcher becomes mated, I have to find another butcher shop? Or if I am a male bartender, I have to refuse service to mated females and lose tip money I need to support myself? Or, if am a female healer, I have to refuse to treat a mated male? 7) ' I could not get over the effect this man had on me. ' Really? Because it's not like that effect is special. It's certainly not confined to him. I mean, all you have to do is look at any of your love interests and you become all hot and bothered and lose all sense of propriety. Remember the speech? Oh no, that's right, you were too busy lusting over a different love interest to pay it any mind. Case. In Point. 8) She made me want to do things that made no goddamn sense. No sweetie, the bond is making you want to do things that make no goddamn sense. You know the power of the bond, you just watched the same possessiveness play out in your TWELVE YEAR OLD BROTHER less than twelve hours ago! 9) How do they have television? Do the cables snake thru the faerie gates? Or are our satellites so powerful they can transmit into another dimension? Or do they have one hell of a modem/router set up? 10) And how do they have television and not guns?!! (Please note: I hate guns in fantasy settings but if an author decides to mix and match, they need to explain things like this)
The stupidity (of which there was more but I didn't think to mark all of them) made me laugh quite often but it is still a bad book. At one point, I was reminded of a Anita Blake and that mess of angst but with random pseudo-sexual encounters instead of the real thing.
So, I enjoyed the first book of this series enough, minus the horrific grammar, to give this second effort a go. As with the first, little effort is expended here to make the sentence structure and grammar tolerable. There are places where negatives are used or sentence fragments repeated or autocorrect has provided the wrong choice such that the entire sentence is too mangled to make sense. More so than the first book. Also, nothing happens. I mean the last scene, flash to the cliffhanger and pow! Done. So, the ENTIRE book is angsty, obsessive reflection by some, not all, of the guys. You can boil the handwringing down into, “I’m f-ed up. I hope I don’t scare her off with my idiocy. I’m obsessed with her and want to bow chicka wow wow.” All the while the girl is meandering along thinking about how these guys like her, they really do like her, a la Sally Field. There are too many guys so you can literally feel the jostling, trying to get everyone some face time. It’s ridiculous. Further, the author is using this book to set up another series that is better than this current one she’s not bothering to advance at all. So, not as in love with this effort. It feels like the author had to squeeze the book out of a constipated imagination. The book ends because the author ran out of words to say. I’ll try the last book, but I can tell there is no way all the relationships are going to be worth the effort. Quantity over quality is the hallmark of this writer. Both in relationships and books. Disappointing as f. I loved Maize from the first book.
4 stars- i received an ARC in exchange for an honest review
i’m ngl, i love maize. seriously love her. this book as a whole is another great reminder of why i love M Sinclair’s books so much. even if i wasn’t on her arc team, she would still be one of my few one click authors.
strong, sassy heroines who have been through hell coupled with psycho alpha-holes who would (and do) kill for their loves.. umm yes please.
let’s be real, her writing isn’t perfect, and there tends to be more internal dialogue and telling vs. showing than i’d usually prefer.. but her characters steal the show every time & keep me coming back for more.
i love how much personality is embedded in the book- from the characters internal dialogue to the descriptions of the world around them. there is never a stale moment, especially considering the 7 crazy Hs.
this group of guys is amazing (although i didn’t expect any different), and i love learning more about them each book. we don’t just get their ✨ tragic backstory ✨ shoved in our face in book one, and i really enjoy discovering everything as they do.
i’ve read every single book of hers (over 30 books) and she still manages to surprise me and keep me guessing. another job well done!
i would definitely recommend this series & can’t wait for book 3!
This second book picked up where the first left off. Right away I was excited that we jumped right into the story. Immediately I began to feel for Maize and her situation. She has already been through much but she is getting stronger. Throughout the story, I could continue to see her coming into her own to be who she is meant to be.
I really loved how each of the mates are letting her in and letting her know that no matter what they love her and are not afraid of her. Seeing her interactions with them and how she is starting to let them in is moving. Their chemistry is well written and I can’t wait to see her form the rest of the marking and bonds. The personality of each of the guys is really great. They are all different but work so well with Maize and provide her everything she needs each with their own strengths.
This whole story was well written. The plot kept me interested. I can’t wait for the third and see which direction it goes in. The world-building has continued to pique my interest and left me wanting more. I loved that there were parts that could really become expanded upon in future book series.
Oh my Lordy! I had to read the first book again to refresh my memory, but boy, M Sinclair threw me for a loop. I had thought that this second book was going to go one way, but NO, it went the completely opposite way (in a very very good way). Let me just drool 🤤 here some on the guys POVs, because OH. MY. I think these are the most possessive men M Sinclair had written. Valerio with his demanding self has a sweet, yet fierce, loving protective side. Maddox, holey cow idk how to unravel THAT mess of psycho. Maize has definitely become more accepting of her mates and is more open and willing to accept herself and her magic, and that’s possible with the help of her men. They’re giving her what she’s always wanted and hasn’t been able to have- endless love and support! And did I catch a potential new series / harem in the making? BUT THAT CLIFFHANGER!! Right when there’s a breakthrough within the Horde Universe with something major happening (Nova / Maize) she leaves us with a gosh-darn cliffhanger 😑
In book 2 we see Maize growing as a person, both emotionally and physically. She starts to accept the love of her mates and starts the path of self healing. As she struggles to over come past trauma and current discrimination she learns to share her burdens with those offering to help. As her love for the guys grows so does her acceptance of herself. She is learning to work with her magic and accept it as it is. We will see her both struggle to get close to them and attempt to push them away. We see her afraid to love them but also love them fiercely. We see their possessive and obsessive feelings for her grow stronger as they rush to keep her safe from danger both hidden and in plain view.
This book has you feeling pain, sadness, love, hurt, afraid, frustration, and confusion. Sometimes more than 1 at a time!
In this series you will get to see a different combination of powers/species in the guys around Maize. You will get to see how their magic reacts to Maizes and how they are entwined with each other.
Seriously with that ending?! You’re killing me. Haha but for real, I’m absolutely loving Maize’s story. I have this need to know more about her guys and for her to bond to all of them. Since there are 7 of them, it feels like she needs more time with each of them to learn more even though some have given her a bit of their pasts. We see different sides of them and that there’s way more going on with each of them than meet the eye. I love that we’ve gotten to see more of Maize’s personality as she gets to know the guys and becomes comfortable with them. I have no idea what’s going to happen or who it could be that’s hunting her. I love that it’s not predictable! I absolutely can’t wait for the next book!
Maize is back with the guys in this second installment. You know she does not want to get close with the guys because she is afraid to lose them. However, it seems like they are slowly breaking down her walls. Also we find out some disturbing information as well. Someone is tampering with her mind or something along those lines. Her familiars tell her what happened and it freaks her out. There are a lot of steamy and smexy times and bonds that are now in place. You will see a change in the guys as they realize they need her as much as she needs them. Then that ending sneaks up on you and you are like WTH. Yeah it ends with an epic cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see what will happen next.
I loved this book! It truly had the perfect balance of all the rotten stuff happening to the positive things. This is my favourite kind of book. There’s multiple POV’s, some wretched flashbacks, a true plot that centers around the fmc. The men are possessive turds right from the beginning, and their interactions with the fmc had me smiling without knowing it. My spouse asked me what I was smiling about tonight and of course I had to read out that section. That ending tho, damn it was a killer. You won’t regret reading this series. I’m thirsty for more!
So I am going to be honest, I gave this book four stars because it's a great storyline and I absolutely love these fantastic, broken, psychotic characters. But... this book was pretty bland for about I'd say a little more than half of it. It was basically them with their internal monologues. Not really any action. Then it picks up some. Then it gets really interesting for a couple of pages then surprise it ends. Now with that cliffhanger it sounds like the next book is going to be fabulous. I did like the book I was just expecting more than what I got.
From the very first page it was all happening, and that cliff hanger!! What a way to make us want more!
Couldn’t put it down and really enjoyed reading about the development in Maize and her mates relationships. As expected of M.Sinclair you love the characters and as each book progresses you get more and more invested and attached to them. Argh! So looking forward to book 3!!!
I also really enjoyed the teasers at another potential addition to the universe!
Omg the fist book was amazing the second pulled me in even more I love maize. Maize doubts herself but she is so strong willed I love her spirit she doesn't give up. She trys so hard to see the good. The men wow the men have grown on me every time I think I have favorites they switch and do something and I just can't choose. The story keeps you on your toes and makes you want to know what next definitely an absolute read. I highly recommend this series I love how they all tie into each other I can't wait for book three.
Exploring Fae is the second book in the Lost in Fae series, by M. Sinclair. This book was an outstanding followup to the first book, Finding Fae. But that shouldn’t be much of a surprise because M. Sinclair is a brilliant writer.
Mazie has been dealt a pretty crappy hand, but throughout this book her character really develops strength and starts to become the person she wants to be. Her guys are amazing. The steam and chemistry between them and Mazie is 🔥!!
Be careful, the cliffhanger will leave you wanting more!!
Why! The authors love to torture me with these major cliffhangers. This book was a little more laid back as we learn more about these stunning characters. They have so much depth to them and we have learned a lot this book. It was beautifully written and keeps you engaged to as we traverse the world that Maize and her group of men live in. The descriptions are vivid as the first book which definitely allows you to easily picture the scenes. It is a fantastic story that I can’t wait to see what happens.
M. Sinclair has written another stellar book with excellent story building and creating a whole new world filled with characters you fall in love with. This is book 2 of Maize’s story and it does not disappoint. I loved how it jumped into the drama from page 1 and kept you enchanted until the last page. More steam and you learn more about each guy in this book. Highly recommend- and holy moly that cliff hanger!
I felt so sorry for Maize in this book. After all those years of torture, she finally has something (or someone) to live for only to have someone trying to kill her. This book was so fast and intense, it was my favorite of the series so far. I loved seeing Maize give in and accept that she has mates and start to give them a chance. There are still a lot of questions unanswered and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book after that cliffhanger!!!!
Ok so I love this Horde universe by M. Sinclair and I have to admit that Maize is probably my fave leading lady, or at least top 3. She and her guys are finally developing their relationships and it's awesome but as always something or someone is after Maize. Beware this ends on a cliffhanger but it's such a great series/book that you shouldn't let it deter you.
M. Sinclair does it all! Every emotion is hit in her books! The stories she weaves and worlds she build are so vivid that you feel like your standing next to her characters. Speaking of characters! Masie! I love her! And her guys! M.Sinclair always gives you something to love about each of her characters even the crazy psycho ones! Lol I highly recommend this book. I love it!
This is the 2nd book in the series. As always any book written by M.Sinclair is just fantastic! You can tell she cares about her characters and their journey. It starts off with Maize left injured and without her men in the woods. She finds her way home and as she recovers she claims another mate! This woman can not catch a break. I mean she just wants to spend time with her guys and maybe visit Gray, is that too much to ask! I will be eagerly awaiting the next book!
I will say that Maize's story is just as amazing as the others in this world. I love how tough, yet vulnerable she is and how her men while all different fit her perfectly. This book was amazing, although a little confusing at the start, but quickly explained. The ending of this book as me on my knees, begging for the next. I great read and one that takes place in a established world where you don't have to have read the other series.
The book starts off with maize waking up in a unknown Forrest freezing. With serious head injury and not remembering what has happened. Besides that not much seems to happen. You do see her trusting the men more and their relationships somewhat growing more but it felt more like a filler for what's to come. Does leave you with a hanger that makes me need to know who the threat is.
I think Maize is one of this authors best heroines yet. She is such a mystery two books in that I'm hooked on a different level then I normally am. Maize has such unique abilities and powers and she's an extremely captivating character to hear the inner dialogue to. All the side characters are entertaining and I highly enjoy the crossover moments and symmetry between the story lines across the different series.
