When I met her, I threatened her. Scared her. Humiliated her.
Because I wanted to.
Because I could.

Ella Quinn had what I always wanted.
And I hated her for that.
Still do.

Now she’s got something else I want.
Something I need.
Without it I’ll never escape the hell I’m living in.

But Ella won’t back down.
She won’t give in to my demands.
She no longer fears me.

That’s about to change.
If she won’t give me what I want, I’ll take it.

At least that was the plan, until it all fell apart.

Ahhhh, this brought memories of the 90's teen/NA slashers :D !

I'd personally describe it as more of a mystery then a sports romance. In fact, the sports part is almost entirely non-existent and the romance is ... well, budding!
Big plus - consistent characters, not the cookie-cutter, flippy-floppy type you usually find in this kind of stories, and believable plot without a constant roller-coaster drama based on ridiculous misunderstandings.
The only thing I found a bit disappointing was that the hero seemed more of a supporting character -
often when things were told from his perspective, it didn't bring a lot of new or different information. And sometimes it seemed more of a retelling of what took place rather than showing his point of view.

All in all, an intriguing and well-written book! Can't wait for the conclusion! :)

Terrible with Cliffhanger - DO NOT RECOMMEND

I keep trying this genre in order to understand its appeal but I can’t. The characters are awful, the storylines are awful. Why do people read these. I was never bullied and it would never have crossed my mind to allow myself to be bullied. I can’t help but to skip and skim chapters. These books make me feel bad and angry. Love? Romance? I feel like these are the author’s personal stories. That the author was the bully or bullied. Yuk! I will not move on to the rest of the series installments.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book and can't wait for the second one!
This is an enemies to lovers bully romance and I always appreciate it when the transition from hate to love happens at a believable pace and not from one day to the next. Ella and Briggs start to fall for each other only towards the end of this first book and not that much happened between them romantically yet, so there's still lot's of room to explore the romantic aspect in the second book to keep things interesting. Storywise there's also a bit of a crime plot involved which I really liked.

Ella is a strong, emphatic female character who doesn't falter when Briggs is giving her a hard time. I really like her. Attention - Spoiler ahead in the next sentence. But because she is portrayed as such a strong-willed character I was really disappointed when . I know it was crucial for the whole storyline but it seemed out of character and really bothered me.

Moving on to a few more things I didn't like:
First of all, sorry but I just have to mention the cover. The guy looks 40 and the pose he does is really cringey and screams douchbag. I choose my books based on their cover a lot and I skipped over this a few times before I recognized the author's name and that's the only reason why I clicked on it to read the blurb. Judging from the cover and blurb I did definitely not expect this to be a highschool bully romance where everyone is supposed to be 17 (Of course the protagonists don't really act like 17, but do they ever in these books?).
Another thing is that I didn't understand the friendship of the 3 A's. At least not when it comes to Finn. All they ever do is fight, they seem to have nothing in common and I don't feel any connection. I think there was not one scene where all three got along and had a good time with each other. Sidenote - Finn is the absolute worst. I hope he doesn't get his own book (as many supporting characters do these days) because there's just no way to redeem him.

Anyways, I really enjoyed the book and wanna read the next book like NOW. Congrats to Kai Juniper on this great release :)

Usual Girl Dealing with High School Bullies And The Secret They Are Forced To Keep

I got hooked on Kai Juniper’s novels after reading the Twisted Pine series, so l was happy to start this series.

In this book the Main characters are-
Ella,
Charlotte (Ellas friend)
Briggs + Aubrey
Parker + Scarlett
Finn and every girl
Ella is caught in an incident with the three guys she despises the most.
The three A’s ( a**holes) as she refers to them, Parker, Finn and Briggs. They go to her school, and all are from exceedingly rich families.

One night, two unexpected twists of fate pushes this unlikely group together.

All have to keep the secret about what happened.

With elements of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” can this group stop the authority’s from finding out what happened that fateful night?
A night, that if the truth came out, could ruin all there futures.

As new evidence appears, they all struggled to keep their stories constant.

Will Briggs, Parker and Finns friendship survive?
And, What about Ella? Will she be able to keep her growing feelings towards Briggs under control, and not jeopardise her own future?...Hmmmm

Okay...
Elements of this story that ticked the teen, angst, bully, novel cliques.
1.Three rich guys who rule the school
2.Two of them with bitchy girlfriends
3.Scenarios within, and outside of school designed to push the two main characters (Ella and Briggs) together.
Chem, Lab Partners anyone?...(yeah, this is a regular set up to push a couple together)
Bonding over family issues
4.Both have absentee mothers that they bond over.

But the biggest set up in the whole book, was the one the lead to the main storyline

Ellas car breaks down.
(She is sent to retrieve a lawnmower part for her father).
Stuck in the middle of nowhere after a rain storm, and WHO does she happen to flag down for help??. ...Briggs, Parker and Finn, on their way to buy weed, and go to a party,

This part of the story was sooo randomly coincidental, in was laughable.

AND! Don’t get me started on the run in with Ian, Ella ex boyfriend in the parking lot.
Total set up to instigate Briggs and Ellas first kiss. (I groaned at this one)

“As he walks away, Briggs turns to me. "What's he doing?" "Staring at us," I whisper, looking at Ian from the side of my eye.” ... NEXT MINUTE!

I knew this was going to end in the kiss, causing Ella to change her opinion of Briggs.

Okay folks, we ALL know now where this is heading.

Then Ella comes up with this gem-
“still reeling from that kiss and wondering how it even happened.”
SERIOUSLY!
It happened because she secretly WANTED IT TO HAPPEN!

She never shuts up when she’s alone with Briggs, asking him sooo many personal questions, her plan B for a career should be as a police investigator.

Also, what’s the deal with every adult Ella crosses paths being so concerned about her dating history? ...Creepy much?

These stories are always the same!
All the boys grow up in homes where the parents don’t take the time to know them.
All drive expensive cars.
Live in Mega-mansions
All have vapid, bitchy, beautiful girlfriends

The female lead character is always -
An understanding listener.
Almost always salt-of-the-earth.
Hard working.
Family oriented, smart mouth who does take their BS.

How am I doing so far?
Towards the end of the book we have Briggs, having his ‘come-to-Jesus’ moment, with Ella, over Chinese food in his big old empty mansion.

Then at the very end we have ANOTHER big coincidence. Plus! Even more of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” vibes with the last page.
Yep! This story just keeps throwing them up...haha!

Grrrrrr

It was a good story but way to much of the characters repeating their concerns about the same thing. It made me skip many pages and sure enough I wasn’t lost. I was warned there was a cliffhanger but that’s debatable since it was kinda .... I can’t think of a nice word to discover so I’ll just leave it to you to fill in the blank. I’ll probably read the second but we’ll see...

I love a good enemies to lovers romance. This one does not disappoint. It's got all of the classic, wonderful Alpha-hole imagery that makes you want to completely fall at the hero's feet, but also kick his ass! There are some triggers that can be disturbing or upsetting for people who have experienced trauma, but it shows that privilege and power won't always keep you safe from the powers that be.

Kai Juniper has my attention

I loved reading this from start to finish. The small moments between Briggs and Ella were just precious, I give Ella props for standing on her own against Briggs and the boys. Seeing the dynamic between boys fall apart was something intriguing because with an ending like that, it's only a matter of time before we find out who betrays who

Great first book in this intriguing series.

Wow this is a great start for this series. It just pulled me right into the story and I'm dying to know what happens next. Ella has to work with the three guys who have been tormenting her for the last few years and Briggs is the worst one of all. I'm looking forward to book two and seeing what happens next.

Wasn't aware this was a continuing storyline until I hit the end. Not sure if I'm going to grow to like the hero or his buddies in this one, but I am curious how the story will end so I will keep reading.

It was okay

I couldn't feel the chemistry with the two main characters.... I'm also not a fan of cheating, it might have only been kissing but it still counts.... The whole back and forth pull between them was annoying....

I loved this one just because of Ella she was strong and smart. Briggs was just ugh, I get his home life is horrendous but I just can’t be okay with how he treated Ella.

I wasn't expecting to like this book so much. I couldn't stop reading. There were some things that made me uncomfortable like Briggs making fun of Ella's house and clothes.
