J'ai un faible pour Moomin et ses amis. La nouvelle mouture côtoie l'ancienne, c'est très beau. Cette histoire a quelque chose de triste. On y parle des sacrifices en amitié.

I love how short and simple the adventure is in The Last Dragon in Moominvalley, yet the topic is profound. When Moomintroll inadvertently catches a tiny dragon, he wants to keep it as his own private pet. The dragon, however, prefers the company of Snufkin. Although this leads to jealousy on Moomintroll's part, Snufkin so values their friendship that he arranges for the tiny creature to be released back into the wild far from himself. Acknowledging the difficult emotions, respecting one another, and revering relationships happens so naturally in the story that readers are organically encouraged to appreciate the complexity of emotions and relationships as well as the value of considering the feelings of others.

Moomin et le Dragon est le deuxième livre de l’univers de Tove Jansson que nous lisons ensemble. Et je me demande parfois si ce n’est pas moi la plus enthousiaste — je crois bien que si. J’espère simplement que, dans quelques années, ma fille pourra elle aussi apprécier la subtilité des messages, la délicatesse des illustrations et, surtout, ce monde si doux et merveilleux des Moomins.

Dans cette histoire, Moomin découvre ce qui semble être le dernier dragon et tente de l’apprivoiser. Mais le petit dragon choisit la compagnie d’un autre ami plutôt que la sienne. Le récit devient alors une très belle histoire sur l’amitié, mais aussi sur l’acceptation et la capacité à contempler le monde avec douceur.

Un livre à lire… et à relire.

I don’t usually review the books I read aloud for my children (3 and 4), but had to with this one. It’s not just a children’s story, but a magical and profound lesson in acceptance, love, friendship and letting go. It confronts children with unrequited love and how love and possession cannot coexist. Snufkins heroic and quiet act of love for moomintroll had me tearing up 😭 A gentle and introspective book with gorgeous illustrations…

This was my first foray into Moominvalley and I loved the whole experience. It was heartwarming, the characters are so unique, and the "message" isn't overbearing or too on-the-nose. This is a story that can be shared with all ages to share the joy. If this is what most Moomin stories are like, I'd love to delve into more.
