Bestselling author and entertainer John Cena motivates and inspires readers with this illustrated book of uplifting encouragements adapted from his popular Twitter feed. The perfect gift for graduations, birthdays, and life's biggest celebrations!
Hope + Effort = Making the impossible possible
In this colorfully illustrated book of encouragements, John Cena urges young readers to be who they are, act to make the world a better place, and never stop striving.
Aimed at elementary and middle schoolers, but fun and fitting for readers of any age, John's inspiring perspective and thoughtful advice are perfect for milestones like graduations, new siblings, and other big life moments, as well as for anyone who could use a little boost.
These affirmations about growing up and moving forward are sure to help kids find joy in their efforts and achievements.
I can't deny that this book has some semi-decent advice, but it's nothing you haven't heard before. These types of books make children feel productive but after that rush of initial productive energy, most people would just revert back to their normal habits. Which I understand is the point of these books, but nothing sticks out that much in this collection, not-so-much where I'd remember it.
The illustrations are quite nice and have a lot of diversity, which I appreciate, but overall this book feels copied and pasted from one of those inspirational Twitter accounts. Also, something about this book feels a bit corporate. Nothing about this book feels very, "John Cena" to me, and I'm not trying to create a conspiracy here, but some of these inspirational celebrity books, feel made just to make you buy it because the celebrities name is plastered on the front cover.
This book is okay. The illustrations are decent but are not worth buying the book for. The advice is very vague and doesn't provide that much substance in my opinion. Also, some points off for the obnoxiously long title. Overall, I was disappointed by this book, and I couldn't recommend it.
I read this is to my now six-year-old (his birthday is today!) and I could see the words sinking in. Like all mothers and fathers, we want our children to succeed and we want them to know that they can whatever they put their mind to. I am so happy to help promote this book and give it the attention it deserves.
This is a book that I will keep for my son's entire life and bring out when needed. Cena's encouraging words and advice for kids should be a staple in all classrooms and homes.
A compilation of great advice for kids with beautiful illustrations. Reads more like a list of advice rather than a narrative. The illustrations are wonderful and very diverse - easy uplifting read for kids in middle grades (4th grade and up!)
This book is a collection of tweets from John Cena and I have been following him for a while now since he is so positive in a sea of negativity. Most of the sayings he posts are retakes on old things but he makes them his own and new. My favorite is "A slow start is better than no start." since even when you get overwhelmed with a task, even doing the smallest thing is better than nothing. I find myself referring to that constantly since life can be so overwhelming these days. This is a quick read and something I would keep on a table for constant reference. This would make an excellent gift for any age. I know Cena has a book out like this for adults, but this one speaks to all ages.
Brimming with positivity and catchy sayings as is the case with all of his books and presentations, this one reminds readers to embrace the moments in which they are living. It's important to celebrate our accomplishments while continuing to set goals and recognize what is learned from mistakes. Digital illustrations accompany this empowering text, suitable for graduation gifts or to be read and shared at the end or start of a journey. Author John Cena strongly suggests not being so concerned about getting off to a slow start but instead being proud to have started. He also briefly ruminates about what character means, why it matters to be diligent, and how it is possible to find your way or your destination when it seems that you are lost. This book made me smile and determine to do my best every day to do my best every day as he suggests. In other words, each day gives me a chance to start again and enjoy what the world has to offer. Thank you, John Cena, for these inspiring words since they remind readers that attitude matters, but so do action and planning.
A lot of this is just general regurgitated things that people have said. Not overly new or insightful. It is a generic, ‘believe in yourself, you can do it’ kind of book. —- The illustrations have representation for different skin colors and one illustration with a person in a wheelchair. —-
These are the parts that stood out to me:
The only obstacle that can slow you down is not believing in yourself.
If you never fail, you will never really know what you are capable of.
In trying to be liked by everyone, don’t be no one.
We all struggle. You don’t need to struggle alone. Asking for help is not weakness. Weakness is a strength. With so many people worried about being perfect, vulnerability and showing weakness is the absolute key to growth. Opening up is one of the best ways to learn about life.
Each day try to become a little less perfect, and a little more brave.
Hope + effort = making the impossible possible.
If you feel you’ve reached the finish line, it’s time to start another race.
I like the inspiring lines from John Cena and the fun illustrations depicting his remarks. Some remarks are hard to explain to the kids but the illustrations really helped. There were a few pages where I could point to specific lines or pictures and say "we should keep this in mind the next time _____ happens here."
At first my kids were not interested in this book, it's kind of a self-help book and that is totally new to them. But I think that's an important door to open, as I stopped to point out pictures or relate the lines to our lives they were drawn in and hope they will get more out of it in future readings.
Recommendws for cildren ages 8-13 especially anyone looking to inspire a child to dream or just help pick themselves up when they are down or having a rough day.
I loved this book, and it has so much fun for all ages to feel motivated and inspired! I *MAY* have heard many of the words on the pages in his voice and just enjoyed being able to share this one with my kiddos who have been seeing dad watch him on tv lately which was a bonus! I found this such a fun collection of tweets, and the illustrations were just INCREDIBLE. All together a must have!
Thank you to Rockstar Book Tours + Random House Books for Young Readers for having me on the book tour, and providing me a copy to read and review in exchange for my personal opinion!
Okay, fine, a celebrity wrote a book for kids. A big ole eyeroll. They're all doing it these days, amirite?
Except...
This is REALLY GOOD. I plan on giving this one to my stepson because I thought perhaps he could use a book of inspiration. I gave it a readthrough and heck, it's good inspiration for anyone. It's not JUST "Never Give Up". He encourages to challenge yourself and to know you will fail and to know when to ask for help and to always be you and to be kind to others and to be kind to yourself.
Will this appeal to middle schoolers because John Cena wrote it? Probably. But even if they pick it up for the name only, it won't take them long to read, and they might remember a nugget or two of his advice. "Character is how you behave when no one is watching. You are the sum of your actions, not your words." "A slow start is better than no start." "Never stop learning. Never stop loving. Never stop living."
Nothing that an adult reader hasn't heard (or read) before, but this book might strike a chord with a younger reader.
When I saw that John Cena had a book I was super excited! I’ve been a fan since his wrestling days and now my family love watching his movies. My kids are a bit obsessed with him.
This book is beautiful! I absolutely love that it’s full of encouraging words. I think it’s something a lot of kids need and coming from a role model is even better.
The illustrations are gorgeous and full of diversity.
I think this book deserves a place in all classrooms and libraries. Highly recommend it.
This is a book of encouragement directed at kids that most adults would do well to listen to. The illustrations were also wonderful. I picked this book up solely because it was John Cena and I wanted to know what he had to say.
First Line: “Listen up.”
Favorite Quote: “Ask questions. Challenge norms. Seek answers to everything in life — especially to the reflection staring back at you. This is very difficult, but in the end it is always worth it.”
A quick, uplifting read that’s as visually stunning as it is motivating—perfect for middle graders or even grown-ups who love a good dose of encouragement. This one’s been sitting on my TBR alongside Be a Work in Progress, and after yesterday’s epic Royal Rumble, it felt like the perfect time to dive in!
More than just “Never give up,” it’s about pushing your limits, learning from failure, asking for help when needed, and—most importantly—being kind to yourself and others.
“Stay true to what you believe in. Be patient. Know that you will fail. Be accountable. Embrace the uncomfortable. Get back up.”
This is the perfect inspirational book for any kid. There are so many robots of wisdom in here and I really want my son to think about a lot of the things in here. A perfect gift for a teen!
This is a great inspirational book. John Cena expresses his positive views well and encourages children to never give up and reach for their dreams. The illustrations are cute and bright with fun colors that are visually appealing.
This is a great read for juveniles and it would be great for individuals of all ages to read these words of encouragement.
Who knew Big JC had such a soft spot for character building!
I enjoyed this short one sitting read. The images were diverse, yet simple and engaging. The words feel unforced and just like a conversation. It is not just a bunch of one line quips. It feels genuine and realistic for life in 2024 and the challenges posed by the Instagram Army of fake perfection.
Short book full of wisdom. This is a cute compilation of inspirational tweets from John Cena which would make a beautiful gift for the littles in your life. Also the illustrations are absolutely beautiful!
Performer John Cena has put together a slim volume of advice, affirmations and inspiration which can be enjoyed by the reader or can be shared with others. A good book to put into the hands of something who is having difficulties on life's journey or is starting a new path.
Some people have said this book contains empty platitudes that can be discovered in most self-help books but delivered in a way that could be helpful to some children who look up to John Cena.
