Invasion threatens and fear hangs in the air. Some yearn for peace and an end to the relentless Nazi bombing. Others are spurred on to fight for victory, no matter the cost. And some will manipulate a divided country for their own ends.
On a winter’s night, a German spy parachutes into the Cambridgeshire fenland while another man is secretly murdered in the same field. Is he another enemy spy or has he been sent to his death? Either way, a killer lurks.
Major Clement Wisdom of Special Duties Branch of the SIS is sent to discover the dead man’s identity and almost immediately uncovers a sinister network of conspiracy where kidnap, murder and revenge threaten not only the safety of the country but Clement’s life.
Reverend Clement Wisdom had several hats and he was about to remove his clerical collar and become the Major he was as a member of the Special Duties Branch of the SIS in the UK. When a German spy parachuted into Cambridgeshire, breaking his ankle in the process, he was soon arrested. But it wasn't long before a body was found nearby in the fenland and Clement was immediately included in the investigations. Learning of rumours of Nazi spies who'd infiltrated England, plus gentry who'd been turned over the years, sent a shiver down the authorities' spines.
Clement was an intelligent man whose thought processes could wade through a problem to come up with a solution. Most times he was right, but he didn't want to be this time. The ongoing conspiracy which included kidnapping, murder and collusion would have a catastrophic outcome if it wasn't stopped. But could Clement overcome the odds?
Where Death and Danger Go is the 3rd in the Clement Wisdom series by Aussie author V.M. Knox and I was enthralled from the very beginning. Fast paced, filled with tension and heartstopping moments, I'm looking forward to #4 already. I really enjoy Clement's character. While he's kind and caring, he's also prepared to do what it takes when necessary. I highly recommend this series, which begins with In Spite of All Terror.
With thanks to Leschenault Press, Western Australia for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.
Having been associated with the Police for some 38 yrs I found this and the other two books in the series very good. They were all well written and the author was able to get inside the character’s very well. The plots were well put together and once I had picked the books up I could put them down, so thank you VM Knox. I look forward to the next instalment, if there ever is one.
This was exciting and very engaging from the start. I have enjoyed all three books in this series and hope to see a 4th soon! Clement and the SIS is very exciting and with the mix of actual historical events it makes these books all the more fun to read.
Book 3 was as great as the two previous. Just incredible to imagine spies, assassinations, treason and more.....all that went on during WW II. Great characters, wonderful author.
