Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.
Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.
Shane continues looking for the person who is collecting ghosts. Meanwhile, Alex continues to collect ghosts, continuing the work of Abel Worthe, even though Alex was once one of his test subjects.
All through this book I had the sense that I was being led to a confrontation of some sort. The players here kept getting closer and closer to each other. You know there will be a climax and you know there will be blood. Along the way, a lot of bodies are left in the path - one of them particularly hard to accept (I won't give anything away here, just deal with it and move on). Shane Ryan, one of my favorite literary characters, is one of these major players. He still has his "take no prisoners" attitude but does manage to salvage three wayward spirits from a fate worse than the deaths they have already experienced. Shane is the man. All of this lead-up concludes with the ripe seeds for the fourth book in this series. If the first three books are any indication, Book Four should be a rock-em sock-em addition to any reader's library. I cannot wait.
THORNE'S TOME is DEATH HUNTER Series Book 3, starring the unique and inimitable former Marine Shane Ryan, native of Nashua, New Hampshire, ghost hunter/destroyer extraordinaire. I am really enjoying this Series, as author Ron Ripley keeps the Suspense and Mystery tightly ratcheted and the villains truly Evil (both living and dead). THORNE'S TOME introduces a new villain, one who demonstrates the persistence of Evil after death, and provides more clues on the identity of the collector of stolen haunted items, together with the bizarre rationale for collecting such.
Shane continues his search for the troublesome and murderous collector of haunted items but not without meeting pain and grief for his already battered body.
We now know who is behind it all......or do we? Ripley can weave a tale then throw in something totally unexpected.
My only gripe is having to wait for the next in the series!! Had I known at the beginning that this was to be a series, I would've waited and bought the complete series so that I could binge read the lot 😋.
I love Ron Ripley’s books. I’m not much of a fan of the short stories so I haven’t read the short stories Scare Street puts out but I’ve read all the other books.
What I find interesting in this book is that the Village is coming back into play. I was starting to worry at the beginning of this book that this would be the one that saw the end of Shane Ryan. I love the character so I don’t want him to go for a long, long time.
I am a great fan of the character Shane Ryan and the direction the author is taking his story is brilliant! In this installment characters from previous stories are woven into the plot. Twisting their development in unimaginable ways that have me guessing as to what will transpire or who might show up next! Ron Ripley truly writes amazing horror with gusto, but also human emotion that makes it easy to connect with the ghosts. Can't wait to read more!
Great book! We have in one corner, a demented teenager who wants to experiment with violent ghosts placed in an orphanage filled with young children. In the other corner we have a ghost who's the Napoleon of crime, trying to establish a crime ring consisting of ghosts. Now that they finally become aware of each other, who will com out as the victor? Can't wait to read the next book in this series!
I am truly enjoying this exciting, scary, fun series. I follow the characters closely, rooting, jeering, sympathizing. Mr Ripley, you have created a world where the good guy is tough, flawed, but also sweet (do not tell him I said so, lol); the other characters are so interesting, it is with bated breath waiting to learn more about them. Thank you for writing a really great series
I am glad that Shane is back in action, but saddened by the death of Marcus and stunned at the change in Alex. The ending of the book left questions hanging. I am sure that some of them will be answered in the next book...in the meantime, I look forward to the author's next book, when it comes out.
Soo much going on as books and characters are coming together love Ron's books really into the books and lov Shane (will he keep off the Whisky ?) Sad to hear of Marcus's fate after all he went through but who knows what will happen ? soo looking forward to more please Ron .
Being a ghost can be a hard life. ( death , whatever).
Very good ghost stories, wicked people, wicked ghosts, and our hero, Shane Ryan. Read on, as many ghost stories as I have read, this series is the best, and most interesting.
Thorne's Tome, Death Hunter series 3, Ron Ripley, Ghosts are being collected Death toll is rising, Shane has to figure it all out. Shane Ryan a hero in my eyes. Gripping gory page turner, 4* kindle, straight onto book 4 Mistress of Death.
What is going on!? Twists and turns that don’t disappoint. Characters from other books overlapping and adding to the mystery. Can’t wait to see how this unfolds.
I was lucky enough to have gotten a free audio book code from the author. I am volunteering to leave this review. I love Shane Ryan adventures they are always entertaining.
