FBI Agent, Toni Long, lost her father a year ago when he was killed in a joint FBI and ICE investigation led by Clay Byrd, a man Toni had found herself infatuated with. Unfortunately, the killer escaped, and if Toni hadn’t been distracted by her attraction to Clay, maybe her father wouldn’t have died. When she receives an anonymous tip on the killer’s identity, she follows the lead and an attempt is made on her life. Clay, having received the same tip, comes to her rescue. Thinking he can help find her father's killer and keep an eye on her safety too, he quickly offers Nighthawk Security’s help.
But she first has to face down her own dark past.
She fights the idea at first, but she will stop at nothing to find her father’s killer, even if it means partnering with a guy she has feelings for. But as the investigation unfolds, they unearth deep, dark family’s secrets that are more dangerous than anything Toni could imagine. Problem is, Clay is right there by her side, offering her comfort and support, and protecting her from menacing danger. She soon has to fight feelings she’s developing for him when her focus should be on the investigation and staying alive.

I am insanely obsessed with this series! I'm pretty sure it's these strong Alpha hero type Byrd brothers that are the lure though their big sis and parents are awesome too. As well as the cameos of past heroes and heroines from other Sleeman series.
Though...back to the Byrd brothers...honestly, I'm a little bit embarrassed over how fickle I've been. Head over heels over Aiden (Book One) then Brendan (Book Two) and now Clay has my heart singing only there's been enough Drake time (soon-to-be hero in Book Four) to have me kinda swoony over him too. If only this author didn't create such compelling heroes...wait, strike that. The bibliophile horror of a Byrdless collection in my library is too horrific to contemplate. Yes, I might be a tad obsessed. :-)
What else keeps me coming back for more from the Nighthawk Security series? Sleeman's ability to impeccably balance suspense, romance and relationships. I'd go from snort laughing to fear-cringing in a whip lashing nano-second! And the snarky brotherly jibes are soooo much fun! There's also a great balance between investigation and danger and the twisty-turny plot delivers one sucker punch after another. Not to mention that super freaky opening scene!!!!! All that and a faith thread besides!
If you love romantic suspense, you definitely need to meet up with the Byrd brothers. Just sayin'.
And I'm beyond thrilled that the author has made this series...well the first three books anyway (hopefully the rest, pretty please Ms Sleeman) available in audible format.
Susan Sleeman has done it again! She gives us book three in her Nighthawk Security series, a group of brothers, former law enforcement, who have opened a private security firm. This book is Clay Byrd's story. He is led to an abandoned school by a cryptic note, only to hear a woman scream when he arrives. FBI Agent Toni Long has been shut in a room and needs help. Toni was once infatuated with Clay, but an op gone bad derailed that. Her father was killed in front of her and Clay and now they both suspect this note has something to do with that. But further investigation reveals something incredibly sinister and they must dodge attempts on Toni's life if they want to solve this case.
Sleeman always, always takes her readers on a thrilling ride, ratcheting up the suspense little by little until the race to the finish is full of excitement and intensity. I am a forever fan! We also meet old friends from her two previous series. Highly recommended.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher. I received no compensation and the opinion here is entirely my own.
Susan Sleeman has always amazed me by the twists and turns that she puts in her books. Although I have read many of her books, I never know what to expect! The Nighthawk Security series is about the Byrd brothers who run a protection and investigation agency. This series is in the same world as the Cold Harbor and Truth Seeker series. While they are stand-alone, I think it is so much more fun to read the Cold Harbor series first, and then the Truth Seeker series, and then Nighthawk Security because there are a lot of cameos from the different characters! Night Hawk is about the middle Bryd brother, Clay and Toni, an FBI agent. Toni Long is determined to bring her father’s killer to justice after all she is partly to blame for his death. If she hadn’t been distracted by Clay Byrd, he might still be alive. Unfortunately, she gets stuck in a trap with Clay that almost kills her. He jumps at the opportunity to help her and offers his services. As Toni struggles to protect her life, she will also have to guard her heart because at every turn Clay offers his support and maybe even his love. This book was so interesting! Clay and Toni had a lot to work through, but they learned how to trust each other and God. I loved how supportive Clay always was of Toni. It was so sweet to watch him try and help her! Toni was a lot more guarded than Clay, but I did like how she realized she couldn’t fairly give him more. I think that was very mature and respectful of her. I couldn’t blame her for her hesitancy either because she had a lot of family issues to work through. As always Ms. Sleeman’s storytelling is excellent, she wove so many different threads through this story. However, they all fit together really well. There were a lot of surprises that I didn’t see coming, and I felt really bad for Toni through all of them. Her family life was really sad, and a lot of tragedy that she didn’t realize had happened to them. I loved how these books always add some humor even when dealing with these heavy issues. I am not a fan of super serious books, and I love that I get the intensity with a bit of laughs in there too with the Byrd siblings’s dynamics. Their interactions are becoming my favorite part of the series, and I love how close they all are. I feel like I can see my siblings in some of their conversations! I would definitely recommend this book. The romance is very clean, and there is not very much violence. However, the storyline is mainly about human trafficking specifically sex trafficking. It is not very graphic, but it might be more suitable for thirteen year olds and up. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
3.5 stars " . . . .he needed to make sure she didn't walk away when this investigation was over."
And she could. She had said as much. Would he even be able to stop her if she did?
Former ICE Agent Clay Byrd and FBI Agent Toni Long had experienced a lot of remorse over a previous joint operation gone wrong; their suspect had escaped and Toni's dad had been killed. Why he had even been there in the first place remained a mystery. Guilt over the fact that their initial attraction could have been a distraction in the case, Toni and Clay never followed through on their feelings and had gone their separate ways.
Now drawn back together by separate but similar enigmatic notes, they are nearly killed, reigniting their determination to find a murderer. As layer upon layer of unanswered questions are uncovered, a body count begins to mount and Clay's family rallies around the two, fully utilizing all the resources that Nighthawk Security has to offer. Will it be enough?
Enjoy the fast pace that this story offers, while sharing the frustration of its never-ending dead ends with its characters. As an entire law enforcement community races against time to put vile, violent offenders behind bars, Toni begins to wonder if she will ever be able to solve her true feelings about a man who cares deeply, but continually confuses.
Clay Byrd finds a mysterious note on his windshield for him to show up at an abandoned school. Once there Clay hears a woman screaming. Once he finds her he realizes that it is Toni, an FBI agent and she is terrified! Why have they been called to the same place and what does this incident have to do with an op that they were on together that ended up with Toni's father dead?
Okay ya'll, I am not going to lie, this one was a tough one for me to read! Not because it was bad in any way, shape or form. The subject matter in this one was a tough one and just happens to be one of those things that has the capacity to make me ill when reading. BUT, that being said, it was an exciting read as always with Susan Sleeman's books! I loved Clay and all of his brothers on the Nighthawk team. He was caring to the point of overdoing it, but when you fall for someone you kind of can't help that! Toni was a strong woman and knew when to accept help yet also knew when to exert her will to get things moving along and to be included in the team. The suspense was nail-biting and whew, quite an evil villain reveal at the end! Once again, I'm loving the Nighthawk series and look forward to the next installment. And how convenient that their mother named them alphabetically so they are easy to remember! Drake is up next!
Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman is book three in her Nighthawk Security series, featuring the Byrd brothers. The middle brother, Clay, finds himself sucked back into a case he could never solve. One that cost too much and still has too high a price. Especially if he can’t put an end to it for good this time.
FBI Agent Toni Long never expected to see Clay Bryd again. They worked together on a task force to bring in a man trafficking women. A case that closed with her father ending up dead and the lead suspect vanishing. She blames herself for getting distracted by her attraction to Clay. To see him again now, when answers to her father’s death dangle in front of her like bait?
Danger surrounds them and leads encircle them, but Clay and Toni are determined to follow them, not just to keep their own lives safe or because they need answers, but above all for the girls who are victimized by those who traffic them. Which does lead me to a trigger warning. I appreciate how the author treats this difficult subject, focusing on the desire to put the perpetrators behind bars and on how to put an end to the crimes.
Clay and Toni have their relationship challenges, too. Toni is a strong, capable FBI agent, even if Clay wants to protect her. Whether their differences will keep them apart forever is something that you’ll have to read the book to find out. One aspect I greatly enjoyed about this particular story was Clay’s humor, especially as the middle Byrd brother. And, yes, the Byrd family – including Mom and Dad – makes an appearance, whether Clay welcomes their presence or not.
The beginning gets off to a heart-pounding start! And, characteristic of a great Susan Sleeman book, there are plenty of twists and turns, keeping a reader guessing, until the end, which I couldn’t put down until I knew what happened. Better yet, don’t worry if you haven’t started the Nighthawk Security series yet, Night Hawk is one you can pick up and not feel like you missed too much. Though, the past books are so good, I highly recommend reading them, too.
--- I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with FTC guidelines.
I have always enjoyed reading books written by Susan Sleeman because I know they will be full of interesting and very intriguing information. This book continues with that assessment. She has tackled many social issues in her writings from stalking, kidnapping, murder, drugs use, chemical warfare, national security threats, to this one of sex trafficking. In this third book of the Nighthawk Security Series, we read about Clay Byrd and hear his story. He used to be an agent for ICE and now he’s working with his brothers, but there was one op that went bad and he couldn’t get it off his mind. The Nighthawk Security team is a family of brothers and one sister, who are ready to make the city of Portland, as well as the surrounding area, safe. They use their skills and give of their time and resources, to make this happen. I’ve enjoyed getting to know the whole Byrd family, and to see how this big family pulls together and supports each other.
This story at times was very hard to read because of the subject matter. There are innocent lives being made to do things they should never be forced to do. I know life around me isn’t all rosy and at times I want to not think about it. However, I appreciate what this author has done to bring light to this very real problem in our world! This is one of the reasons I love reading books by Susan Sleeman. She truly paints the picture of what is out there and what we as people need to be aware of. Susan Sleeman doesn’t sugarcoat her stories. They are hard-hitting and gritty. This book not only has action, tension, and suspense, but there is a bit of romance . . . well, maybe a little more than a bit! These characters learned that it’s okay to rely on others and God because He’s there for us and wants our best. If you love action, suspense, and intrigue, then I highly recommend you pick this series up and start reading it! However, I have to warn you, once you start reading, you won’t be able to stop! I stayed up way too late to finish this book. WOW! I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Night Hawk” the third book in the “Nighthawk Security” series opens as Clay Byrd is lured to an abandoned high school by a cryptic note only to hear screams coming from janitor’s office. Opening the door he finds Toni Long huddled on the floor near a poisonous snake. Struggling to save the woman he was attracted to when they joined forces a year previous in a FBI and Ice investigation which killed her father and saw the killer escape, the two join forces again not only to bring her father’s killer to justice, but to save young girls held hostage in a human trafficking scam.
Fast-paced and emotionally-charged Toni Long who feels guilty for being distracted by her attraction to Clay during the investigation that robbed her of her father, not only struggles with her renewed feelings for him, but with the family secrets in her past that bring danger ever closer. Well-written and intriguing like all the Night Hawk Security series, Susan Sleeman once again blends mystery, suspense and romance as sparks fly when Clay and Toni join forces to find the sexually abused young girls held hostage, and to bring her father’s killer to justice.
With twists and turns as the secrets in Toni’s past are revealed, and Clay struggles to protect her while searching for an escaped killer, tension is often diffused with light-hearted moments within the Byrd family and a strong element of faith woven throughout the plot. With complex and compelling characters like independent, stubborn and determined FBI Agent Toni Long as well as smart, supportive and genial Clay Byrd, the story rolls seamlessly to a satisfying conclusion.
I enjoyed “Night Hawk” and look forward reading further novels in this enjoyable series.
My review today is on the Romantic Suspense, Night Hawk. This is book three in the Night Hawk Security Series. I love Susan's books and I'm thrilled when I receive one in the mail or on line. This book is truly awesome. I'm not sure how Susan can keep coming up with new stories and new plots. This story is well written, action packed, and full of drama. Faith as always is an important part of her work.
FBI Agent Tony Long is sent a note to come to the old high school to a janitor's closet. When she arrives in the dark she hears a rattle and is paralyzed. She can't move. She is rescued by a man she had worked with on an op when her father was killed. He and his family come to help investigate what is going down.
Former ICE Agent, now Nighthawk Security Partner Clay Byrd receives a note telling him to come to the janitor's closet in the old high school. There he hears a blood curdling scream. He continues on to the closet only to be locked in. Tony is the woman who screamed. How could he help her when it was his fault her father died. He contacts his fellow workers and his brother only to have him laugh at him. He'll never live this down. As friends and family help examine the old high school they find a dead body. The security team must find out who is after Tony and him. He can't let her down again.
A journey of twists and turns as the try to find the answers to a human trafficking gang. God has a plan for these two, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a plan for peace and not for destruction. Give your heart to Jesus and watch Him work even in this time of chaos.
No matter how much one might want to believe that events such as those in this story could never happen in our nation, that will not stop human trafficking from being a real blight on our country. I am grateful that the story focused more on locating the girls and bringing the criminals who were trafficking them to justice than on the horrific acts forced on the girls. The story clearly refers to girls, not grown women. The story had so many twists and turns with some great action, a solid but understated faith held by the protagonists, and some wonderful family scenes. If you have been fortunate enough to be raised in a large family where the siblings have the respect for their parents and each other as the Byrd family, you have been truly blessed. The family sounds almost too good to be true, but I have no doubt that families like theirs exist. One thing is certain: the story will inspire you to work to develop stronger ties with your own siblings. I mentioned faith above. I believe that is the starting point. Just as Toni and Clay were leaning heavily on their faith and working diligently to find the girls who had been held at the old school, we can do the same wherever we are to help make the world a better place. Just watch out for the unexpected curves in the road of life. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.
We are back with the Byrd brothers and their new security business, Nighthawk Security. This time, middle “child”, former ICE agent Clay, gets his story. A year ago an innocent got killed in the middle of an investigation. He was the father of the FBI agent Toni Long, who was there working with ICE. Prior to that, the attraction between these two was evident, but that mission, ended it all. Now, when they both get notes to meet at an abandoned school in which they almost got killed, Clay is determined to find out who was the culprit not only of the tip, but also of what they found as well as who really killed Toni’s father, a former DEA agent and now wants her dead. From the start, the story is filled with twists and turns. Toni’s past, and the secrets her parents kept are revealed . Did she really know who her parents were? While keeping Toni safe, Clay introduces her to his family. A family that is strong in faith, loyalty and love. Leaving Toni wondering if she ever will find that love and understanding. Aside from a plot that was engaging, and characters that were complex and strong, the author deals with some disturbing realities in the form of human trafficking. It was obvious the author did her homework and thought the statistics are heartbreaking but still important to know. As a nation and as individuals we need to do more to protect these individuals. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
I've said it before and will continue to say it - Susan Sleeman writes romantic suspense like nobody's business! You are hooked from the first page to the last, rarely coming up for air! The twists and turns that every story takes keep you guessing all the time and the characters are so realistic, they could be, well, REAL! Her research is flawless too. When she writes about a criminal subject, you can bet it's top notch. This story is about human trafficking and although it's a tragic and horrific subject, Ms. Sleeman handles it with humanity and class. She focuses on the law enforcement side and just touches on the girls involved so you feel horrifically sad for those girls (yes, girls, not women) but are spared the details. To know it thrives in our country is important so we can help combat it but still, it hurts my soul so much. Clay Byrd and Toni Long were on an op with the FBI that went south some time ago and their main suspect wasn't captured so when they are both independently summoned to an old school on a possible tip that could break the case open, they find themselves together again. However, things go south again and so the case is open once more. Clay and Toni had feelings for each other but couldn't pursue them but now that Clay is in the private sector, perhaps things will be different this time. Definitely pick up this book! A winner!
Author Susan Sleeman continues to bring readers Spectacular Suspense with the release of Night Hawk (Night Hawk Security Book 3). This book will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you reading way into the night! Sleeman continues this exciting series by writing the story of Clay Byrd, Former ICE Agent now working with his brothers in Night Hawk Security. Clay receives an anonymous tip that leads him back to a joint investigation with FBI Agent Toni Long. Clay and Toni worked extremely well together and actually had begun to wonder if they might could develop a relationship. However, their investigation had taken an explosive bad turn and they were both removed from it. They have not seen each other since. The tips prove to be a major threat on Toni’s life but Clay arrives in time to save her. From this point on, Sleeman writes her most scintillating thriller of the Series to date! There are so many layers of closely guarded family secrets and it is difficult to know who to believe much less trust. Danger is at every turn! Will Clay and Toni be drawn closer together or torn even further apart as they combat these great threats?
I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by the author/publisher. The opinions expressed here are completely my own and without influence.
Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman Nighthawk Security Series Book Three Clay Byrd had been on a task force to find a human trafficker. They’d failed, and a man was killed. The father of one of the FBI agents on the task force with him. Now, a year later, he meets up with that agent once again as they both received mysterious notes. Seeing Toni again wasn’t quite the way he would’ve wanted it.
FBI Agent Toni Long never gave up searching for her father’s murderer. An evil man had escaped to continue his wicked ways...and her dad was dead. As she joins Clay in finding answers...she finds her life isn’t what she had thought. The more answers they found, the more questions that came with them.
Susan Sleeman writes great suspense romances. Every one has me hanging on every word and are real page-turners. She also really brings her characters to life. As serious as this topic is, I found myself laughing out loud several times. The subject matter in this book is tough, the human trafficking of young girls. Another excellent story that also shows the reader a part of real-life. https://justjudysjumbles.blogspot.com...
This is suspense done right!! Susan Sleeman knows how to do thrilling suspense and this book is no different. It starts off filled with action and the twists and turns take you on such an emotion filled ride that you can't put this book down. I absolutely adore the Byrd family and Clay's story was compelling and completely captivating. He and Toni Long, an FBI agent that Clay worked with when he was an ICE agent, are thrown into a bizarre situation that is Toni's (and mine) worst nightmare. They are both haunted by the case they couldn't solve and when it becomes apparent that the perpetrator that vanished is the one they are now chasing, Clay realizes he has to do everything in his power to protect Toni and solve this case. This case is gritty and Sleeman does a great job of tackling the hard subject matter of human trafficking. With plenty of danger and intrigue and suspense, this book will have your heart pumping. It doesn't help that Clay and Toni are again realizing their feelings for each other with brings plenty of drama as well. This book will have you laughing, cringing, and engaged right to the end.
Night Hawk by Susan Sleeman is the third book in her Nighthawk Security series. Clay Byrd from the Nighthawk Security Agency and FBI Agent Toni Long are both looking for answers to who killed Toni’s dad. When both of their lives are threatened, Clay enlists the help of his brothers to watch over Toni and help with the investigation. They uncover lies, murder and deep, dark family secrets that could squash the fragile feelings developing between Toni and Clay. Ms. Sleeman has a way of taking those sensitive subjects that you see in the headlines and weaving them into a story with grace, understanding and compassion without letting go of the danger and suspense. I enjoyed watching the feelings between Clay and Toni develop. He was such a gentleman. It was great to see the interaction between all of the Byrd family members. It makes you wish you were part of the family group!
I received this e-book from the author for my honest review.
Night Hawk, Book 3 in the Nighthawk Security series is amazing! I love how with each book I get a closer look at the family (brothers) and how much the author brings them, and the storylines to life. Ms. Sleeman has always done an amazing job with action, suspense and writing a great adventure; but another gift she has is how invested I get with each of her characters. I love that this series allows me to stay involved with those I fell in love with at Blackwell Tactical and also through the Truth Seekers series. They are all family to me, so when something happens to one, it happens to me too. I love books that are psychological in nature, with many layers to uncover as I turn the pages. Night Hawk was amazing. I didn’t want to put it down and kept turning the pages well into the night. I cannot wait for Night Moves, the next one in this series.
Another fast-paced, deeply entangled mystery from a master suspense writer. This novel deals with an old missing person case and the horrific scenario of human trafficking. The girl who disappeared thirty years ago just happens to be connected to FBI Agent Toni Long, who learns disturbing truths about her family as the case unfolds. Thrown together with Clay Byrd in this tough investigation, Toni nearly loses her life more than once. Danger stalks them as Clay and his brothers attempt to uncover who is behind it all and stop their crimes before more people are harmed. Twists and surprises keep you guessing, and you won’t want to set the book aside until you find out who’s guilty and see them meet justice. The author did a good job conveying realistic human emotions in such trying circumstances. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Read until the end because I wanted to know if they’d catch the bad guy, but that’s only because I am stubborn : the book is very slow, the characters are verry religious (which is neither good or bad, just takes quite a lot of space and breaks the suspense). Toni is like made of titanium, everyone is dead/she has a surprise sister that no one told her about and that is being human-trafficked/her love intérest loves her but she does not want to start anything/her grandparents were dead but now they are alive/ her great uncle was a pedophile/ her father killed her greatuncle/someone is trying to kill her… and she’s just following through the investigation without breaking apart as if it were a normal situation. I am all for strong heroines, they are my favourite character. But here it is completely over the top. …having written this review, I have no idea why I did not DNf lol
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love that this author’s stories are all different and they aren’t formulaic. This one focuses more on the plot than the romance and I liked that. I do find it hard to read about human trafficking and child abuse so it made me uncomfortable, but that’s a good thing as we should never become complacent. This is the third instalment in a series about 6 siblings who branch off their previous jobs to start their own protection business. They can be read out of order and the author does a great job in reminding us who the secondary characters which helps the reader to keep up when it’s been a while since we’ve read the last one. In this particular books there were a lot of characters mentioned from previous books. I am enjoying this series and will continue to read through the remainder of the books.
Another great installment in the “Night Hawk” series. I loved this book.
Toni and Clay were a perfect match. Each was written with depth and true emotion while being totally believable. They had chemistry that didn’t feel fabricated.
Clay’s family gave the book a look at the close family ties that pull them together in crisis. The other side characters were varied and well written, and the interplay with characters from previous series gives a community feel.
This more than the previous books took me on a crazy mental ride trying to figure out all of the intricacies of the mystery revolving around Toni and Clay. When I thought “Aha!” Another twist was thrown in.
This is book three in the Nighthawk Security series, However it is a stand alone book. Sleeman is one of my favorite authors. Her books are full of mystery, suspense, humor, family and romance. One thing I like about her books is they continue to bring people from previous books and the relationships develop, yet each is a stand alone. So if you just read one you can enjoy it and not feel lost. In this book Clay Byrd and FBI agent Toni Long find themselves fighting for their life. They must try to solve multiple mysteries before time runs out. I fell in love with the Byrd family in book one, Night Fall, and always enjoy reconnecting with characters from previous books and even previous series'. I was given a copy of this book for my honest review.
Wow, I struggled with this one. The first two I got into and just kept reading, but I picked up and put down this one several times. I couldn't find anything to grab hold of at the beginning of the story, and the theme of the story was a hard one, one that made me uncomfortable - sex trafficking.
Toni and Clay had had an almost relationship in the past, but when Clay's brothers began their protection agency whatever may have been fizzled out. Toni and Clay meet again in the janitor's closet at an old building, both drawn their by mysterious notes. When there they are faced with a poisonous snake and a fire set to kill them. Clay's SAT phone brings help in the nick of time and while they are investigating the building they find the skeleton of a woman and the set up for a trafficking group. Suddenly Toni and Clay's family are booted off of the investigation by the FBI and they are on their own. Toni and Clay agree to work together to find the man who was in charge of this group as well as the man who killed Toni's father.
Lots of suspense and some romance in this one. It is clean but the topic is uncomfortable.
When I pick up a Susan Sleeman book, I know I’m in for a wild, suspenseful ride with lots of twists and turns. Night Hawk is no exception. I’m loving these Byrd brothers and their fun family. The camaraderie between them all is such a treat and adds to the enjoyment of the story. Clay’s and Toni’s story is a little grittier than usual, but Sleeman handles it as sensitively as possible. I loved seeing characters from past books and series show up in this one.
With intense suspense, intrigue, a dash of romance, and some inspiration, this series should be on every romantic suspense lover’s list to read. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series. 4.5 stars
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I am enjoying this series. You can read these books separately but if read in order you have more backstory. FBI Agent Toni Long is trying to find her father's killer. She is lured into a trap by someone and almost dies. Clay Byrd has also been lured into the same trap and tries to help free them both. With the help of his brothers they are able to escape this trap. Now to find out who is trying to harm Toni and find her father's killer. Are they both related? What dark secrets will be revealed in their search to find the truth? Will Toni be able to handle all the turmoil her discovery brings?
I have to say that I love the Byrd family! And this is the best book in the Nighthawk Security series. At least until Drakes’ story comes out. ;o) Night Hawk is an amazing story of faith, courage, love and diligence in rescuing those who are helpless. The details of the all that goes into fighting crime is awe inspiring. It makes you very grateful to all of the people who do these difficult jobs, and for all of their sacrifices. No spoilers, I’ll just say that this is a book that I will read over and over again! I loved Clay and Toni and their story.
Another book to get lost in. With the rainy , foggy atmosphere and the mission to find trafffcked children, every page held suspense . Clay Byrd takes the lead with his brothers to protect Toni, an FBI agent searching for the murderer of her dad. The mutual attraction has to be put on hold so they can all stay alive and put some very bad people behind bars but Clay 's charm and sweetness is on display! The Veritas group joins in and even Blackwell Tactical is involved so it honestly feels like catching up with friends. These friends keep me turning pages trying to keep up with them as they run into dangers to serve others.
Toni was a very dedicated FBI agent who worked on the most difficult cases that could come up, and had just recently been on a sex trafficking task force. It definitely lately was one of the worst that she had ever seen. That was where she met Clay he was ICE, also on the task force. Toni was determined to stop these people any way she could, but when a bulls eye is put on her back, Clay may be the only one who can keep her alive. GREAT READ!!!!!!
If you prefer not to read about human sex trafficking, then this might not be the book for you. I know some people (like myself) tend to shy away from topics like that. With that said, I did finish the book regardless of the content. I love reading about the Byrd family, and this book was no exception. The interaction between the two main characters as well as the love and support of the Byrd family made it a good book. Due to the type of criminal activity going on in the book (and it was completely tactfully done), I doubt I’ll ever read the book again, which is why I only gave it 3 stars.
First, I love the series. I've read other Sherman books and they all have adventure, intensity, and romance and I love the commanderie between the brothers and the humor.
The only thing I would suggest is to.find a new phrase. Always when the characters kiss it is electrifying. I know it is small but it is also slightly overused.
Other than that I look forward to reading more of Susan Sleek and books.
