She made a new friend…with a summoning circle.

Charlotte Azoria has no need for an imp. She’s awkward enough without throwing a tiny troublemaker into the mix. But after royally mucking up a spell, that’s exactly what she got, as well as a reunion with her best friend’s sexy brother. The last thing she wants is someone else all up in her business, but she needs Brandon. For his help, and for the future she’s always wanted.

Brandon Cole loves very few people, but his sister is one of them. So when she asks him to check on her bestie, he begrudgingly goes. Charlotte is different than he remembers. The same hot mess but in a lush tiny package. After being trapped, chased, and shoved out a window, what he really wants is to tuck her safely into bed. Next to him. Too bad the imp has other ideas.

Charlotte and her imp might be more trouble than they’re worth, but Brandon can’t help wondering if trouble is exactly what he needs.

This is a cute, funny, imaginative, romantic short story and it was my pleasure to read my way through it. Charlotte is hilarious in her own way. She’s a shut-in who loves her nightly MMO game raids and desperate enough to free herself from her anti-social tendencies to look to shady magic for help. I love that she didn’t have the heart to actually kill an animal even though the spell asked for it and ended up going to KFC for the dead bird parts. Genius! And I loved that she was more terrified of her friend’s older brother than she was of the imp in her living room. And I loved that he was just as tentative about her as well, even with his cool, motorcycle-riding exterior. And I loved the imp which read like it was part cat, part gremlin, and understandably frustrated that the humans couldn’t understand her. I’d really love to see a second book starring this trio!

This cute short story dragged me into the series and I could not resist. I loved it to pieces. This is a completely new author for me and it was a great way to get to know her writing style and voice.
What can I say? I felt like I hit the jackpot. I love everything about this author, her writing style, her ideas, her world building and her character development, as well as the plot and the way she carried the story. It was great.
This story is slightly comical, there is a lot of magic, the characters are lovable and their chemistry is amazing. I enjoyed it so much that I immediately started reading the next book in the series and bought the upcoming one. Great new author!
This is a prequel and after this book there are at least three more: Accidental Magic (Modern Magic Book 1), Insidious Magic (Modern Magic Book 2), and Treacherous Magic (Modern Magic Book 3).

“Modern Magic” is the prequel to the eponymous paranormal romance series by Nicole Hall, that features fates mates, and a vast multitude of supernaturals, from relatively innocuous fairies, to dangerous Dark Fae, with imps, shifters, werewolves, zombie bunnies, magic llamas in between.

“Modern Magic” main character, Charlotte Azoria has just got her wish and, as wishes usually went, not exactly as they were intended. It should have been an easy spell; it went smoothly enough were not for the side effect imp that came with it. Charlotte has exactly zero need for an imp, and thus ask her friend for help, and gets Brandon (the brother), who funny enough manages to frighten her even more that accursed imp. The story is a short, fast-paced, funny, bordering on whimsical reading, a blend of comical situation, great chemistry (Brandon + Charlotte, not the imp 😉).

I'm surprise that this girl who a non-magic user did not have a bigger freak out over the magical crap that just happened but I guess you must expect some crazy when you trying to cast a spell for bravery.

Wished it Was Longer

I thought this story was fun. I can’t wait to learn more about these characters. I guess it did just what a prequel should, where’s my appetite for more. Fun short read.

I really enjoyed this short story. I just wished it was longer. Two great characters that could have been flushed out a bit more and a bit more interactions together before they declared their feelings.
