My life’s too complicated for this right now. Mom’s sick, the bills are piling up, and my deadbeat brother won’t get his butt off the couch. The last thing I need is some guy at my new job trying to make moves on me. Every time I turn around, there he is. Offering to show me around, asking if I need help, inviting me to join the team for drinks. As if!
I don’t care if he’s smoking hot…that makes it worse! Guys like this make me mad. Arrogant, persistent, can’t hold down a decent job. Probably thinks I’ll be his next meal ticket. I’m not interested in falling for a sweaty construction worker, no matter how good he looks in those jeans. Carrick? What kind of name is that anyway?
Carrick
Kelly Hanson hates me on sight. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve it – I’ve tried everything to get her settled in as my new site office administrator. Okay, so she’s exactly my type. Smart, sporty, spunky as hell. But dating employees isn’t my thing – even if she would let me get close enough. Perhaps it’s a good thing she’s set on treating me like dirt.
There’s something about her though…something irresistible, something my heart says I need in my world. Something that would mean more than all the millions I’ve earned. Maybe I should be working to earn Kelly’s love…
If you love feisty females, big-hearted billionaires, and men who are good with their hands, you’re going to find yourself falling for Carrick! Happy Ever After guaranteed!
This is an adult romance with erotic scenes and occasional bursts of strong language.
Erica Breyer has written a 5-star book. Kelly has gotten a job as a manager for a new office construction site and on her first day, she runs into Carrick. He rubs her the wrong way and she doesn't want to have anything to do with him. She has enough worry about her mom's tumor. They find out the treatment is not working as well as the doctors had hoped. Kelly ends up letting her brother, Jarrod use her car since he wrecked their mom's car. Carrick sees Kelly get out of her car at work and he thinks that Jarrod is her boyfriend until Taneka tells him that it was her brother and what is going on with their mom. Carrick offers to be her ride to work until her mom's car is fixed. As she spends time with him her feelings change. He is there to help her. As he learns new things that are going on with her mom's treatment, he comes up with ways to help money-wise. He finds out that there is a specialist who does this type of surgery and incredibly skilled but they can't afford it. Her mom's insurance won't cover the cost. Carrick arranges to have a fund set up for a special benefit for things like this. He tells Kelly that he thinks the company has a way to help. She has a note from Mr. Cross telling her to call Patricia, his assistant the next day a 4. When she calls she is told that she needs to let them have the information to her mom's insurance and that they would take care of all payments and she would not have to deal with it. She is called when she is with Carrick and told by Jarrod that their mom has been taken to the hospital. When she gets there, she and Jarrod meet with the doctor. He tells them that their mother needs surgery within the next 3 days. Patricia, Carrick's assistant calls him and tells him that Kelly's mom needs surgery and the specialist will need plane tickets to and from and his fees are impressive. Carrick tells her he doesn't care how impressive just do it. He also tells Patricia to set up a meeting at Head Office for the next afternoon and he wants Kelly Hanson there. When Kelly gets to the meeting there are a few people she knows but there is a man who is turned away from the others but he reminds her of Carrick. She is told to go and sit by Mr. Cross so that she can explain things. When she sits down Mr. Cross looks at her and she is shocked to see Carrick. She is upset, to say the least thinking that he has played her for a fool. He tries to explain but she tells him she needs time. Will Kelly's mom come out of surgery? Will she forgive Carrick for not telling her who he really was? Will Carrick get Kelly back or will she walk away from him for good? This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

This is the first book in the Working Class Billionaires series. I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to more books in the series. It was well written, witty, and entertaining. This is the first book I’ve read from this author. Kelly comes off a little stuck up and snobby, but I warmed up to her and could see why she felt the way she did about this. She was still wrong in stereotyping Carrick but understandable.
Kelly’s just got the job she desperately needs since she lost her last job due to the pandemic and she needs money to help support her mom and brother. He mom has major health issues that are going to be expensive. She meets Carrick on her first day and is rude and snubs him. She thinks he’s trying to hit on her, and she doesn’t want to have anything to do with a blue-collar guy. She thinks they’re all lazy and are looking for someone that makes more money to mooch off of. She made this snap judgement based off the way he’s dressed. She doesn’t realize that Carrick is the boss and owner of the company because he goes by his middle name and she never met the boss in the interview. He decides to keep quiet and have a little fun with miss snobby. I can’t say I blame him one bit and some of the things he had her do as his new office manager had me laughing out loud. They start to get to know each other and Kelly starts to see that Carrick is a good man and Carrick stops messing with her when he sees the kind of stress Kelly is under. Carrick wants Kelly but she still doesn’t know his secret. What will happen when she finally finds out?

"Falling for Carrick" ticks a lot of boxes in the romantic genre category. There's the toe-curling sexy hero, the feisty heroine and enough drama to keep them apart until the Happily Ever After.
Unfortunately there were several aspects to the story that I found unbelievable or at the least, poorly executed. Without spoilers, the case of mistaken identity took several chapters to result in a conversation that would reasonably allow it to continue - making it feel forced and unrealistic.
Kelly's frustration with her brother, which promised conflict in a sibling fight, never materialised, leaving me frustrated with both her and her mother. Her brother, Jarrod, undergoes a transformation in line with the HEA ending, but suffers very few consequences from his family, despite his apathy and implied uselessness.
Kelly's immediate dislike for Carrick is justified by past experiences, but once again that hint of foreshadowing leads to a dead end without any significant impact on the plot.
Having said that, I loved the dynamic between Kelly and her mother. Watching the family's trials escalate as her mother struggles with cancer and mounting medical bills felt very real, and Carrick is a perfect gentleman who swoops in to save the day while still allowing Kelly her freedom and independence.
I had a few laugh out loud moments, and Breyer's writing style made it easy to enjoy the story.
Overall, if you're looking for a light romance with some deeper themes of family, trust and perseverance, "Falling for Carrick" will tick all those boxes and leave you feeling warm and fuzzy.
This is a well written book with a cast of strong well developed characters all centering around Kelly and Carrick. The author pulled me in and had me glued to the pages as she took me on an emotional roller coaster ride while reading. She brings a realistic story to life with her detailed writing and perfectly painted scenes as she delivers a short story that packs a punch! I loved this book and would highly recommend reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
the characters' inner thoughts were pretty redundant to be honest, and there are a lotttttt of inner thoughts. additionally, the author added single apostrophe to their inner thoughts, their text messages to each other also have single apostrophe. so i was a little confused at some parts, especially some times their real speech came thereafter their thoughts. the over the top inner thoughts is not a great addition to the book.
the ending was came pretty sudden as well. overall, it's pretty boring.

Loved this whole storyline of falling for the blue collar guy. It was also a very emotional book about a close knit family going thru some of the worst time of their life. The characters are well developed with an intriguing backstory. Definitely some surprising turn of events which I don’t want to give away. Enjoyed this book and looking forward to the next in this series. 4.5 stars

This was a good read. The characters were well developed and it was hard not to root for the heroine and her sick mom. Besides some steamy scenes, there were some LOL moments as well as anger (specifically at Kelly's lazy brother). This was the first book in this Working Class series, and I can't wait for the next one!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read.
I read this book and it was great! It was such a joy, I laughed so many times. Also I enjoyed the gradual evolution the relationship had. They went from enemies to friends to lovers. I found myself rooting for Carrick because he really and truly fell for Kelly. I was surprised he was willing to part with so much of his funds for a woman he wasn't certain could or would return his genuine affections. Carrick was truly a great guy. Also I liked how they fought for their relationship and wouldn't. The HEA was great, no cliffhangers just a great solid read.
A great start to this new series Working Class Billionaires. The story flows well and is easy to follow and entertaining. The characters are likeable and have great chemistry. Looking forward to see where this series will go.
I enjoyed this book so much. A quick and easy read. It's sweet and sexy at the same time and quite predictable, which for me means that I can let go and read for fun. Escape the world in this book and relax! Definitely recommend it!
I like the plot and the family set up. Overall, a nice feel good book. I will recommend to my reader friend to give this one a try. I'm starting in the second book in the series.
Delightful story. I enjoyed the witty exchanges that Keely had with Carrick about her boss. It was all the more interesting that she didn't realize that he is her boss. The great reveal went much better than it has in stories by other authors. The ending is wonderful.
I totally *fell* for this book! -> See what I did there? Hehe.
Once I started reading, I didn't stop until I finished it. Anxiety, family stress but also family support and love, cute humor, snarky humor and laugh out loud humor, friendship and of course, attraction, chemistry and love. And Carrick being eye-candy doesn't hurt a bit! Falling for Carrick has everything you could want in a romance.
I'm not going to waste your time writing more, except to say: You definitely want to read this book!
I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author via StoryOrigin.
Falling for Carrick (Working Class Billionaires, #1) is an easy and enjoyable read. I like Erica Breyer's writing style.
Some things I would have liked to see:
~ The brother needed some telling-off instead of being coddled throughout the book. He was a deadbeat that did nothing to help.
~ More of Carrick's feelings when Kelly treats him like crap when they first meet.
~ I think he carried the subterfuge about who he was a little too far. I was getting frustrated that he wouldn't come out and tell her sooner.
The characters were mostly realistic, which added to the ease of reading this story. Carrick let Kelly run all over him (which I could see in the beginning, but this goes to his feelings--you would think that he would be frustrated with the way Kelly treated him after a couple of weeks). Otherwise, his character was great. He was my favorite of all of them.
Kelly's relationship with her mother was real, too. She worried about her mother's illness, just as any daughter would. She was worried about medical expenses and how her mother felt. Very well-written mother-daughter relationship.
