One-hundred years ago, the corporations ruled El Finito. They turned the planet into a single, massive city, covered by their factories, research labs, boardrooms, and skyscrapers. Blinded by greed, they went to war. They utterly annihilated each other. Their shining city was reduced to a planet-wide ruin, The Stacks. The only survivors were the genetically engineered, human-animal hybrids they had used as soldiers and workers.
My name is Locke. As a member of the Delvers’ Guild, my job is to explore the ruins left behind by the corporations. Joined by Gnasher, my new girlfriend and partner, I brave the depths of The Stacks to bring back lost technology and forgotten knowledge. Until recently, my major concerns in life were making enough credits to pay the rent and learning how to navigate my relationship; I might be Gnasher’s boyfriend, but I’m not the only love in her life. I’m still trying to figure out how to get along with her girlfriend, Spinny.
Then, almost by accident, the opportunity of a lifetime fell into our laps. We were given the chance to raid a previously undiscovered genetics lab and to loot its secrets. Little did I know, when we took that job, that the fate of my world would fall into my hands.
Storyline was pretty interesting, but the writing was a bit clunky and stilted at times. The amorous parts didn't mesh well with the story even though it was part of the plot. It read pretty quickly though. I'd say it was a good first effort.
This story is a really well written sci-fi. All the characters have interesting personalities and I like the way they interact with each other. The story is set way ahead in the future on a devastated planet kind of like a post-apocalypse story. There is galactic political intrigue as well as adventure and interesting geographics. For me the way it is written it causes me to see a type of movie running inside my mind and for me that is how I see a well-written story. I for one I'm going to read the next book and I think there's a third one so there's more adventures to come. I can't hardly wait.
The intro of poly as a relationship structure takes what could have been another harem story to a much deeper level. The world building draws you in with out hand feeding the reader every aspect of the world. The story does take a few predictable turns but that doesn't detract from the story itself. This was a fun read, can't wait to see more!
This is an odd one. The story is straight forward and cut and dry but the characters relationship is more like friends with benefits. No real emotional development but each to their own. Not a bad story.
This was a very fun read, I got hooked and really enjoyed the characters and story. It’s weird to say but this book made me feel comfortable and that was great.
No surprises, all very by the numbers. Evil corporation, hidden plant species with all the answers, quick wrap up where it all just comes together. This is an okay book that is a quick read, no more, no less.
Well I would hope even soulless corporations would not be short sighted enough to wreck the galaxy. But then that would require looking beyond the idea of an immediate gain or advantage
It took a while to get into the world of The Stacks. For a first book I must applaud the Author. Futuristic, Post apocalyptic and Fantasy. I will read the second book.
This was a fun and interesting read. The characters wow interesting, funny and unique. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and will be looking for the next book in the series.
This was a great first start.I love stories that are interesting and have sex scenes that fit into the story. This did that wonderfully.Keep up the great work.
This has some good action and ideas, but they spend a lot of time having very detailed sex, which starts to drag pretty quickly. I appreciate that I am probably a bit of a prude about this.
