5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Important New Book of 2020
Given the fact that there are over ten thousand career advice books available on Amazon—150 of which I have in my personal library – when I heard that Cory Calvin was writing his own, I thought to myself, “Does the world really need ANOTHER one?” However, after reading Cory’s latest book, “Jump Without a Parachute,” I became converted to the fact that the world does definitely need THIS book at THIS time.
What makes “Jump” so unique in a market niche filled with competitors? Woven throughout the fabric of this book are uniquely personal experiences from Cory’s own life which chronicle his all-too-familiar drive to “make it” in this world, ultimately discovering that “making it” is insufficient in and of itself, to have made the journey worthwhile. At the mid-point of his career, he lands at that also all-too-familiar point that either each of us, or someone we know, gets to – NOW what? Using his own life as a road map, Cory takes us along on a journey of shared experiences as we use the lessons he learns at each step until we are able to have the epiphany we both yearn for and deserve – this is what I was meant to do.
As Cory challenges himself to discover not only who he really is but what he really wants out of life, we too are challenged to look deep within ourselves to answer those same questions. With eight months (so far) of Coronavirus-induced introspection, most of us now realize that we are trapped in that uncomfortable space of knowing that the old life we once knew no longer works for us yet we are unsure of what we want the “new normal” for our own lives to comprise. By reading this book and taking advantage of the on-line companion course designed to personalize a process for us toward an “Aha! Moment” of our own, “Jump Without a Parachute” provides the impetus to pursue now just a better life but to live, as Oprah calls it, “our BEST life.” In the quest to transition from spearheading market share domination in the retail sector to “inspiring one million people,” with his life’s work, Cory’s latest book – and his example of actually proving that the principles contained within his covers actually work – give me hope that it is never too late to change. And, for me, at a time when every component of my life has been fraught with upheaval and constant adaptation, that is the message I most needed to hear. 2020 has taken away a lot of things that brought meaning and purpose to my life. This book is a gift that helps make up for that.
