From squinty eyed … to … starry eyed

****4.5 Stars****

When done well, I am a big fan of watching arrogant, douchwaffley, womanisers become devoted and possessive heroes. Antonio takes both spectrums to the next level and I absolutely loved him by the end. At first, I wasn’t sure Charly would be the woman to turn Antonio around, but as the story progressed and we saw her strength, determination and courage shine through, I knew she was the only one for the job.

The Boss Assignment takes us back into a world where Virologists are the superheroes, and their sidekicks help them save the world from bugs, drugs and thugs. They don their white capes (of the hazmatty suit kind), jump from lab to lab (with the help of a private jet), and fight the biohazardy kind of bugs. Again, I found myself feeling somewhat familiarised with a scenario that before 2020 would have been completely foreign.

Victoria Paige has a knack for making you feel like she’s in the know about what she writes about. I picture Ms Paige spending her days in fatigues and her nights attached to her laptop turning her daily occurrences into romance stories. I also imagine that Ms Paige is a little sassy. All of her heroines are a mix of quirky, opinionated, and stubborn, which makes me think she’s channelling a little of her own personality into these women. I’m always left wondering how Ms Paige knows so much about dodgy stuff.

The storyline was captivating, the characters were flawed but lovable, and the sexy times were HOT! Victoria Paige managed to take me from 'looking' at Antonio (holy shamoly that cover model is HOT) with squinty eyes to appreciating the loving, possessive and devoted hero he becomes. I also came to love some of the additional characters, especially Nico, but admit to my usual frustration with Garrison. He’s just so manipulative and hard-hearted, I can’t wait to see him fall in love.

I really enjoyed The Boss Assignment and loved seeing Charly and Antonio fall in love. Both characters have overcome horrific pasts that have left them a little broken. Together they find a happiness that neither thought they deserved. I was completely convinced that they were perfect for each other and would go the distance.

You could read The Boss Assignment as a standalone but I highly recommend going back to the start of the series. They’re all bloody good.

This has a great start. Hooked me right away.
Charley is a brilliant virologist. Antonio Andrade is a wealthy businessman who owns a pharmaceutical corporation.
I love their chemistry from the beginning. I would say that this is a slow burn. I would really say that this is a very full story, including intrigue, crime bosses. underlings. Oh yes, there are a lot of great and not so great supporting characters (I esp liked Ida and Nico) . I love how each one plays a part in this romance/suspense/a little rom-com.
This is quite the page turner.
Charley is feisty, but easy to like and admire.
I had my eyes on Antonio. He's misunderstood. I realized that each time that I saw another layer.
This is full of action. I loved the local color- the gritty and the beautiful Brazilian scenery.
I want to get lost in Antonio's beautiful estate.
One of my favorite's of this author.

I just couldn't get into this one. The blurb says it can be read as a standalone but I don't really think it can. Though I'm not even sure reading the previous books would have helped me understand these characters more. As it was, it felt like I was dropped in the middle of an ongoing story with these two characters and I can't say it got better the more I read. I just became more confused and honestly bored since the story seemed to drag. Overall, wasn't the book for me but I do think a lot of people would find this series interesting.

Read an excerpt:

Antonio crushed his mouth on hers, shoving his tongue forcefully between those infuriating lips, using his leverage on her ponytail to compel her submission.

She squirmed against him and he wasn’t sure whether it was to get closer to him or push him away, but the answering moan that vibrated against his tongue only inflamed him. Letting go of her hair, he lifted her bodily and pinned her to the wall, their faces level, his erection grinding between her legs. His cock roared to get more action. It wanted inside her, but it was too soon. His damned prick just needed to wait. He continued devouring her mouth and she responded by digging her fingers into his hair and pushing her tits against his chest, grinding that pussy on his hardness.

Hell, yes.

But the digging became yanking and it took fleeting seconds for Antonio to realize it was a sign she wanted him to stop.

“You drive me crazy,” he growled a hair’s breadth away from her panting mouth.

“What the hell are you doing?” she rasped.

“Me?”

She shut her eyes briefly, and then when she blinked them open, she said, “I just cussed at you.”

“And I obliged.” His mouth quirked.

“Fuck you, doesn’t mean fuck you,” she flared.

“Oh, minha linda, coming from you, it does.”

The Boss Assignment
(Rogue Protectors #3)
Written by: Victoria Paige

The blurb sounded interesting, the cover was the draw; but the story, wow the story was fantastic.

This is my first Victoria Paige book, but now I’ve made myself a promise to pick up books one and two in this series.

Charlotte (Charly) Bennett is a world renowned Virologist whose of interest to the good guys and the not so good guys. Charly had been kidnapped and hostage by a Mexican cartel to work on a Ebola virus variant only to be rescued/kidnapped by Antonio Andrade, CEO of a Brazilian Pharmaceutical company that is being framed for causing a Ebola variant.

If ever there was a book to read during a pandemic, this is surely one of them. I was in awe of the scientific information that Victoria Page wove through the story. It feels like readers are in the lab with Charly and Antonio when they are racing against time to create a vaccine that halts the virus. I was frustrated by the CIA operative who arrived to bring Charly back to America, then I realized I don’t know any spies personally so maybe that’s just who they are.

What I really enjoyed in this story though, was how Charly and Antonio built bridges and trust with each other by sharing their personal histories with each other. They allowed themselves to open up and share what very few people knew and with that they began a relationship that was built on science but respect and the fact that they shared a very strong, spicy hot sexual attraction helped!

I very much enjoyed this book which goes to show you, a blurb and a hot man can teach you a lot about all things science and sex!

Unexpected Pairing In A Crisis - 4½ stars

Virologist Charly Bennett can’t believe she’s been kidnapped not once, but twice by ruthless men who crave her knowledge of a deadly virus! In her wildest dreams she never expected the gorgeous, but nefarious head of Andrade Industries, billionaire Antonio Andrade, to carry her off to his home in Brazil to do his bidding. And darn, his purpose sure isn’t to take advantage of her sexy charms! Antonio wants the use of her scientific brain to create a vaccine in his exclusive lab. He also has the nerve to use her as bait to catch those who would leash a bioweapon on the world and try to lay the blame on him. Little do either of them anticipate the sparks that will ignite when matching wits that will eventually turn their banter into an unexpected attraction. An inconvenient passion between them will complicate their navigation of menacing threats from unknown enemies.

It took me a while to warm up to Antonio since he has a very dark past and is known for using lethal consequences and shady dealings in his rise to power. His facade of the ruthless, but charming gentleman who straddles the line between right and wrong makes everyone question his motives. Antonio seldom asks for anything, he just takes what he wants when it suits him. His loyalty is hard won and exclusive to few. And Charly reluctantly sees that he’s all kinds of sexy despite what she is learning about this dangerous man! Antonio makes it clear that he has never believed any particular woman could ever have a special place of influence in his life, and he likes it that way. It’s shrewd to never have a weakness that his enemies can use against him. He’s quite the controlling player and never had a reason to change. Little does he realize he’ll meet someone that undermines his long-held beliefs, even though he doesn’t recognize or understand what’s happening at first.

Charly is passionate about her work at the CDC and vehemently stands up to anyone who would dare question her integrity or reputation. She’s a stubborn firecracker who fights back when she disagrees with Antonio’s methods or highhandedness while forced to work for him. Despite her attraction to the arrogant jerk, she tries to deny how his magnetic charms affect her. Charly’s work means everything and her honor is on the line. She’s willing to compromise her own safety to help stop a dangerous viral bioweapon from falling into the wrong hands, even if she has to make a deal with the devil. But as Charly begins to understand Antonio’s past and present motives, she sees there is good in him. She joins forces with Antonio with the hope that their goals will coincide with those who have secretly asked her to work behind the scenes to stop this virus from being unleashed on the world.

During their conflicting time together Antonio and Charly begin to earn one another’s trust even while denying the relationship that’s building between such unlikely personalities. Despite his harsh and relentless reputation, there are lines Antonio’s now unwilling to cross. He has worked hard to change his businesses to legitimate enterprises. Antonio starts to become a work in progress as a possible match for Charly for this skeptic reader. As their feelings deepen, Antonio starts to wish that he could be a man that’s worthy of Charley. He never imagined that she could mean so much to his well-being and his possessiveness is unexpected. Antonio never felt he could deserve a woman so brave and honorable and Charly has never expected any man to find her worthy of love. Her traumatic past has made her dismiss finding love or happiness outside her work. But she can’t help falling for this commanding man when he offers his protection and unwavering compassion when she shares some horrific events that affected her life deeply.

This story has lots of suspense and mystery surrounding the identities of those responsible for creating a deadly virus and its variants and the purpose behind developing a devastating weapon. There is some technical information included about how the virus works which is relevant to current times. Ms. Paige makes it understandable for the reader while navigating the crazy paths of several conspiracies. Antonio and Charly are caught in the middle of several clashes between dynamic characters from government agencies who are trying to hunt down vicious cartel members and terrorists competing for control of a viral bioweapon and its vaccine.

This fiery couple’s slow-burning attraction that turns into something life-changing under explosive circumstances is the star of the story. Antonio admits for the first time that he has found a precious woman truly different from others who had fleeting roles in his life. Once Antonio lets Charly know that he will put her first, there is no turning back for them. He will use all his power, ruthlessness, and determination to make sure they survive and stay together. Charly’s trust and acceptance of everything that has culminated into the powerful man she’s fallen in love with is unique and treasured by Antonio. He wants to lay the world at his woman’s feet, and Charly comes to believe that she’s truly cherished and deserving of love. The devotion that grows between Antonio and Charly and their passionate love scenes will keep you turning the pages.

I received an ARC of this story for an objective review.

The Boss Assignment was so amazing that I spent the whole afternoon devouring after I started it. There are so many things at play so the twists were coming in hot from every direction as Dr. Charlotte, aka Charly, Bennett is at the center of some serious business going on about a virus or two. She's a brilliant virologist who has been kidnapped by a cartel, then kidnapped from there by a billionaire bad boy (he's supposed to be on the rescue team) who thinks she's the one with the bioweapon that he needs to destroy. This poor scientist, she very much wanted all around the world, as someone set her up real good & it's going to take some untangling to clear her name. If that's not all kinds of chaotic, there's the chemistry shooting out sparks when she's near Antonio (that bad boy billionaire) so that's a struggle as well, especially since he's holding her captive now. The Boss Assignment is one hell of a wild ride that never slowed down cover to cover, and it has gone to the top of my list for romantic suspense! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Rogue Protectors series, so bring on the next heart racing book! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Packs a punch!

Wow get ready for the BOOM Because Antonio Andrade and Charlotte ( Charly ) Bennett are explosive together! Poor Charly this is the second time she has been kidnapped, but let's just say all is not what it seems. These two are so antagonistic towards each other, Antonio is super alpha and a little grouchy but he is no match for the little spitfire Charly, she certainly holds her own against him. I love this book and this entire Rogue Protectors series by Victoria Paige, if you haven't read them, I highly recommend them, they just get better and better with each book. I am eagerly awaiting the next one.

Loved this next chapter in this series. You get the same witty characters from the previous book, plus some new ones. Great dialogue. This book focuses on Antonio and Charlotte (Charly). She's been kidnapped again, and she is so not impressed with Antonio, but she gets him back immediately. It doesn't take long for them to try and figure each other out, but can they trust what they find out about each other. I lover the tenderness that Antonio shows to Charly, and only to her. She's his queen of the lab and the queen of his heart. A very detailed book and excellent suspense weaved throughout.

A few words to cover it all "Madly, utterly, and insanely."

The spunky virologist and the alpha billionaire…

This is the third book in the Rogue Protectors series that can be read as a stand-alone. Though not a prerequisite to enjoying this read, the reading is enhanced if you’ve read the prior books.

Someone is trying to implicate a privately owned pharmaceuticals firm in the development of a dangerous bioweapon and the Brazilian billionaire, Antonio Andrade, is determined to find those responsible and protect his company. After communications were found internally with a Charles Bennett, Antonio tracks down the man to a Mexican cartel and is surprised to learn that the man is a woman, a frustrating woman who claims innocence after he abducts her. Now Antonio must decide if she’s playing him or if she is one to trust and all while he keeps her alive.

For the second time in her life, someone has kidnapped the virologist Charlotte “Charly” Bennett, the first time was by a Mexican cartel to work on weaponizing a variant of Ebola and create a cure. Now a very alpha male Brazilian billionaire with a pharmaceutical firm that is a business that is predominantly legitimate holds her captive. He insists he’s righteous in this situation, a man who just wants to clear his name but how can she trust this arrogant man who’s kidnapped her and won’t let her go. He does have a state-of-the-art laboratory at his home that is a temptation she can’t resist.

Two strong-willed individuals who don’t trust each other have an uneasy attraction and forced alliance. The dynamics between them are highly combustible yet they have things in common, the two are from decidedly dysfunctional families. Can two dysfunctional make a working whole? That is to be determined.

Being the products of horrendous pasts left them each a bit broken emotionally and feeling undeserving of being loved yet they were individuals who had the strength to not just survive but to flourish in their endeavors. The stubborn main protagonists were likable, their vulnerable flaws relatable once you’ve heard their backstories. To each, the other is a puzzle to be solved but they then wonder if they can trust what they learn about each other. The wittiness and sassiness of the dialogue were quite entertaining. Antonio was a contradiction having previously been cast as the villain. Was he redeemable? We all have a bit of good and bad inside us.

To prevent a disaster Antonio and Charly will have to contend with the CIA, a Mexican cartel, personal betrayals, and unexpected enemies from the past. One really must make sure that a body is dead before you toss it. The plot was suspenseful and delightfully complex, it takes on a whole new level of reality in today’s pandemic world. I was glad this couple got such a compelling story, they had an incendiary meeting in the last book which left this reader wanting more.

This book is my favorite of the series so far.

Oh my God! I just finished The Boss Assignment and I don't even know where to start other than I love love freaking loved it. I've been following this series from the beginning and have enjoyed it immensely. While each book can be read as a standalone, I recommend you read each one and follow along. While they're not bonafide cliffhangers, each story flows almost seamlessly into the next, continuing an ongoing saga of epic proportions featuring well scripted characters, including sexy Brazilian men, crime bosses I never want to meet and Ida the housekeeper who is a hoot.

This is Charly and Antonio's story. The American virologist and the Brazilian billionaire are such polar opposites but at the same time so alike in that they're dealing with personal demons from their turbulent pasts. Antonio doesn't believe in love and yet Charly will chip away the ice in his veins and drive him mad with feelings he doesn't know how to identify. Their chemistry is off the charts. It sizzles. Like bacon on a hot griddle.

This was the third installment in Rogue Protectors. We find Antonio is trying to go respectable, distance himself and his company from the crime underworld his life had been a part of from his early teens. He is set to take his company Anriotech public. But he has made some enemies along the way and someone has set him up and his company, framed him for the creation and bioweapon outbreak of a deadly virus. He didn't count on falling for Charly or having to choose sides. A deadly adversary will bring his dark past back to haunt him and threaten everything he's worked hard for, even threaten the new love he's just found. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, even shed a few tears, and even laughter. So many emotions came out of reading this book. Well done, author. I think each story is better each time. I'm impatient to get a hold of the next book!

I was thoroughly captivated!

What an amazing book! After a prologue that fills in some of Charly's backstory, this story picks right up where the previous book left off with Antonio and Charly right after the rescue/takedown in the Mexican desert.

After getting to know both characters a bit in the earlier books, I have to admit I had my doubts about whether there'd be any chemistry or connection between these two. This talented author immediately erased all doubts, and showed us a side of Antonio that even he wasn't aware he had. I loved the solid enemies-to-lovers vibe throughout this book; even after their relationship is cemented they're still on opposite sides of the problem.

This standalone romance has everything on board and delivers a compelling, steamy, and enthralling love story that details how Antonio and Charly defy all the odds so meticulously stacked against them. Balanced against that is a complex criminal investigation that is intriguing, timely, and surprisingly revealing about Antonio's back story. While the romances of each of the three books are separate and contained in their own books, the virus storyline spans all three books and is written so brilliantly to tie all the various stages of the investigation into one seamless, cohesive story.

It was an absolutely amazing story to read, so realistic and so intelligently structured that it elevates the previous two as parts of the whole expansive experience. If you've read either of the earlier books, you don't want to miss this one. If you haven't yet, then grab those two immediately and read them all together. I guarantee you're in for one fascinating ride. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

After the last 9 months of being captive by the Cartel, working long hours, Charly hope that being freed by Antonio and Migs would mean she would be going home. But Antonio had other plans. With the threat of the Ebola virus being used as a bioweapon Antonio needed Charly to finish the work she had been doing while captive. He needed her to come and work for him at his lab. There relationship started out force as Antonio carried her over his shoulder onto the plane to Rio. Charly soon realized that Antonio had no plans to hurt her. When they find out the someone has been mixing the Ebola virus with one of the products Antonio's pharmaceutical company makes it becomes very personal to Antonio. While they try to make the anti virus there is a shift in their relationship. Charly doesn't know what to think about this. She has been told that Antonio never lets anyone into his personal live. When he starts to open up to her about his past she finds herself telling him things she has told no one before. When Antonio's past comes back to haunt him his real feelings become known. How will he keep her safe from all his enemies. Will they make it through all of the tragedy?

Antonio...Antonio....Antonio....the ruthless...arrogant....stubborn....billionaire....who kidnaps Charly....the sassy mouthed virologist....gets more than could have ever imagined. He needs her to prove that his company did not engineer a deadly virus and that he is being set up. Charly has been kidnapped, twice, the first time was not a pleasant experience and isn’t too sure about Antonio, but she needs him as well to prove her innocence that she was not involved in engineering the virus. They butt heads, they banter, they push and pull and throughout her “captivity” they learn so much more than the origins of the virus.
Oh YES YES YES.....I LOVED LOVED these two, their banter, their sparks, the heat....OH BOY. The story flowed beautifully with amazing characters, suspense, twist and turns, surprises, heartbreak and sorrow, pasts revealed and I could not stop reading, wanting more more more of these two. The ending was priceless with characters revisited and I LOVED LOVED LOVED the extra the author gave at the end....the cave, the setting, Antonio and Charly....swoon...sigh...swoon...LOVED IT.

With a brilliantly complex plot, this book has it all. Intrigue, action, characters you'll embrace wholeheartedly, romance and lots of heat.

Brazilian billionaire, Antonio Andrade, heads a pharmaceutical company being framed for the development of a potentially devastating biological weapon. Antonio helps rescue Charly Bennett, the virologist he suspects actually created the weaponized virus, from a drug cartel only to discover Charly is actually Charlotte. She's stunned when kidnapped - again - and flown to Brazil against her will. Charly insists she is innocent, yet Antonio refuses to release her, and instead "suggests" an alliance that will benefit them both. Neither anticipates the attraction that pulls them together. When you mix in the CIA, FBI, Brazilian paramilitary BOPE, CDC, drug cartels and other dark entities, can the alliance between two individuals filled with anger, distrust and dark secrets have any hope of success?

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author. The honest review is my own.

Charly and Antonio

I was interested in both these characters in the previous books, enjoyed them a lot. This book doesn’t disappoint in how it developed Charly and Antonio’s relationship and built on the suspense of the previous books.
Antonio was interesting in the other books, but came off as extremely obnoxious. Here the reasons for his character were explained and pretty much justified. His relationship to the family he created showed he was capable of love, even though he didn’t see it that way.
Charly’s personality and character was also the result of incidents in her past. She’d buried herself in work for so long she tried to bury her feelings for Antonio at first. It was fun to watch them both come out of the protective shells they’d built for themselves and admit their attraction and feelings for each other.
In addition to the romance in the book we have a plot involving around Ebola variants. This was particularly timely to read as we are in a pandemic. Not related to it, but interesting in a relevant way.

“You’re not going to ask me, are you?”

That one phrase sums it all up perfectly. Antonio didn’t ask before taking Charly because he knew she could either help him or destroy him. Either way, he wasn’t letting her walk away. Not even when her stomach displayed its displeasure with his methods. Antonio didn’t ask before their first kiss, or before showing Charly that she was trusted or appreciated or loved. And that’s part of why I absolutely adored this book. Heck, I love this whole series! We’re still racing to get to the bottom of the Z-9 series mystery. And we still wonder just what kind of ninja Garrison is. But this time, we see ALLLLL of the glory that was hinted at about Antonio in the previous book.

Charly and Antonio were just perfect for each other. They were both stubborn and strong, yet vulnerable. And who doesn’t want a ruthless protector like Antonio OR Charly in their corner? Add to their whirlwind romance the couples from earlier in this series and a tease of what lies ahead and I’m still hooked.

The Boss Assignment had me intrigued with the blurb. I will admit it, I do need a good blurb before deciding what next book I will read. This caught my attention and this book is my first read by Victoria Paige.

Charly and Antonio ~ wow! From the time Charly was recaptured, she has been on an unexpected radar that Antonio was not expecting. Without the troubles, their chemistry was hot!

The Boss Assignment had a great story line and you can tell the author really took the time to make this story a success. It held my attention and I kept coming back to each chapter wanting more. There was a lot of whodunit in this story, but keeps you guessing. You will not know what hits you until the very end!!

Charly or Charlotte is an amazing doctor who is trying to help those that have been infected but a new strain of X. She was kidnapped and reduced but got kidnapped again only to help find out answers. Antonio Andrade is a high man in the business world. He needs Charly to help find out what is going on in his plant. Even though their first week together has been nuts and arguments
Happening all the time you never relies that these two can have a spark that both want to see where it goes. The thing is Antonio is very protective of those in his family and who he loves. Charly is turning into one of those and when she is kidnapped by those who want to ruin Antonio he wants to get to her and never let her go. Will he be able to save the one that is his match?

I've enjoyed all three books in this series and this couple is my favorite. Antonio is a billionaire and owner o pharmaceuticals firm that is being falsely accused of trying to develop a dangerous bio-weapons. After he discovers internal communication by a Dr. Charles Bennett, traces down the person to a Mexican drug cartel and virologist Charlotte “Charly” Bennett. Charley has been kidnaped by the cartel and is being forced to develop a bio-weapon for them. Antonio kidnaps Charley and insists she help clear his name & his company. They have intense chemistry, don't trust each other, but need to work together. This book is very fast paced, crazy steamy, has tons of action, drama, and twits. This series is great, but each book stand alone.

Great story of Antino and Charly with their attraction to each other while Charly’s stubbornness kept them from doing anything about it. Once they do, their story took off, yet Antino has said all along he couldn’t fall in love with her. As they were hot on the trail of finding not only an antidote but what was targeting Antonio’s company, their enemy is closing in on them.
The technical terminology got me down at the beginning, yet the interaction between these two kept me going and I couldn’t put the book down.

The Boss Assignment is book 3 in the Rogue Protector series by Victoria Paige. This book focuses on Antonio and Charlotte (Charly) and is full of suspense, intrigue, mystery, with twist and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. This is such a well written story that I really loved. I highly recommend this book, and this series.

This is the third book in the series and wow was I in for a shock. I am so happy this author gave Antonio his own book because he was always painted as the bad guy and it was nice to see him in a different light. I through enjoyed reading this book and once I started reading I could not put it down. Amazing book and highly recommended.

I enjoyed it a bit more than the other book because even if the relationship is in a short time period, i felt like it was better done. They went from enemies to lovers ^^
The story itself was a bit all over the place and i was still a bit confused by all of it. Overall it was nice but i was eager to read the next one.

Antonio and Charly

After meeting Antonio in the previous book, it was obvious he was strong willed and liked getting his way. This cake even more apparent with his attraction to Charly. He was overbearing, in a sexy way and there relationship grew as they tried to save the world from a bio weapon. Sexy, suspenseful and face paced read.

Antonio and Charly kept me on the edge of my seat throughout this whole book! This is a standalone but there is an arc ongoing in this series. There is a deadly disease being used as a bioweapon and Charly is the most brilliant to find a cure. That makes her a desirable commodity. Antonio only wants her to clear his pharmaceutical company of developing it. He knows none of his people would ever do something like that. Charly is not the most cooperative person though. She has just escaped the cartel, thanks to Antonio, his money and connections so Antonio thought she would be grateful. Not this spitfire. Charly definitely has sass that Antonio finds intriguing. I loved the banter bewteen them that is borderline rude but so good! She gives as good as he dishes out. Understandably she is upset with him since he forcibly brings her to his home. He needs her help after all. That makes it ok? Right?
Its amazing how neither one knew how much they needed each other. They make a perfect team in everything they do. They never have a dull moment from the time they meet until the last page in the book. I was taken on an adventure that had me turning pages well into the night.
