From a young age, I struggled to find the answers to what I think of are life's fundamental questions: Who am I? and Why am I alive? I found those answers for myself after much study and circumspection, culminating in strict fasting and meditation on top of Moak Mountain in South Korea more than 30 years ago.
What I discovered opened up a new life and a new world for me. Since then, I've sought to find ways to help others answer those questions for themselves, and live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives as a result. All of my work is focused on developing methods for this and sharing them with as many people as possible. I believe when enough people know their true nature and purpose and are empowered to live by it, the world will become a place of dreams; heaven will be expressed on earth.
This is the purpose and content of all of my books. I hope they enrich your life by reading them.
This is a must read book for those who want to have healthy body, emotional happiness and spiritual wellbeing. The author provides a profound wisdom for awakened and mindful living and offers easy to follow but powerful tools one can use in daily lives to achieve a holistic health (physical vitality, emotional stability and brightened spirit). Although I have used some of the tools he developed for some time, his books always remind me when I am off the track, drowning in information overload and hectic modern life styles, and help me move back to healthier routines. I cannot express enough gratitude to Ilchi Lee for being a living role model and a guiding light.
"Water Up Fire Down" is an absolute must-read for those who are new to the world of energy healing. The exercises and illustrations in the book are incredibly easy to follow, and I'm especially excited to implement these practices into my life. The concepts in the book are approachable and written in a way that is easy to understand, and I appreciated how it tied in to the overall health of our planet. I highly recommend for anyone looking to incorporate energy healing into their lives!
I wish I could give this book five stars, because its core message is so important. Lee's system and approach to mind/body/spirit health is a wonderful consolidation of a lot of Asian medicine practices and established methods of energy healing in an enlightening new framework. This book has the potential to fascilitate life-changing healing in so many people (myself included). However, I cannot give this book that last star, because the truth is there wasn't nearly enough material presented here to fill an entire book, but the author wrote an entire book anyway and filled out the pages by repeating the same information OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. To be fair, it makes this a really fast read, since you can slide right through the sentences you've already read. Repeatedly. Perhaps for someone completely new to energy systems, chakras, meditation, yoga, meridians, pranayama, etc., this degree of repetition would be helpful to cement the new knowledge, but if you have any kind of framework at all on which to hang this information, the blatent repetition is truly tedious.
Now, that complaint aside, I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone. I have over 20 years experience in yoga including teacher certification, I meditate daily, have explored Kundalini, Reiki, and amygdala retraining, have studied and worked with the chakras, and still this book was a true revelation for me as far as finding and opening the blockages in my body that are significant contributors to my specific ongoing health issues. I'm only beginning to scratch the surface of what I'm learning this approach can accomplish for me. I would encourage anyone to pick this up, keep an open mind, have a look, and give some of the techniques a try. Who know, it just might change your life for the better!
A simple and effective healing path. From my point of view, the author understands it in a very pleasant and easily readable way to give the reader an easy way out of the darker side of modern life with its persistent stress. He made it clear that he knows the current knowledge about stress and its effects in detail, but facilitates access by reducing the problem to a simple principle. The paths shown to find a healthy physical and psychological balance are correspondingly simple. In doing so, he resorts to traditional healing approaches. For me it was a particularly lucky find, because I was probably finally able to get a grip on stress-related digestive disorders. Many Thanks.

Vielen Dank.
The blurb accurately describes this book. Ilchi Lee does a good job explaining health issues in an understandable way with both western science and eastern philosophy. He lost me a bit toward the end of the book when he gets a bit preachy trying to explain how the water up fire down concept applies to society and the environment, but that wasn’t why I was reading this book.
The suggested lifestyle changes make sense. The exercises are clearly explained, often with cute illustrations. They do not require any special equipment, although Mr. Lee mentions some tools he sells that you can purchase if you like. I enjoyed some of the exercises and meditations and appreciated the suggested morning and evening routines, but some of the exercises were quite uncomfortable for me. If you have serious health problems, you might want to check with your doctor before trying some of these exercises.
If you are interested in complementary or alternative approaches to health care, this is worth checking out.
Thanks to the author for providing me a review copy through BookSirens; I volunteered to provide an honest review.
This is another wonderful book by Ilchi Lee filled with great wisdom and precious insights. Too often we ignore our needs and don't listen to our body's (and mind's) signals because we're too busy, too distracted, too focused on the outside world. Lee's very simple yet effective energy principle of Water Up, Fire Down allows our bodies to keep us healthy, it allows us to be in harmony with nature’s balance, and it allows us to get everything done thanks to the body-mind connection that is also part of my coaching practice. Lee’s list of tools to recover energy balance, along with training routines to perform in the morning and/or night was amazing. This was probably my favorite section as Lee guided us through a suggested routine to keep our water up, fire down circulation – the Golden Principle of Health – in check based on the principles and methods in the book.
This book is the tool kit now. Current environment is not safe in general. We cannot rely on the medical system and politicians. Also our lifestyle itself is not good for our health. The best health is natural health. Circulation and Balance are key in the nature and human body, too. I strongly recommend any one to read and to develop the routine for natural health. This book is the real and true tool kit for our life.
Water Up Fire Down is a must have book for your self help and mental tool kit. This book does a wonderful job explaining the principles of healthy living and how to support yourself in the world around you. Ilchi Lee provides summaries at the end of each section as well as many visual graphics that provide different exercises you can do whether it be breathing exercises or actually encouraging physical activity.
I have been taking the Mindfulness Movement class that was developed by Lee for about two months. It makes me feel so good; I leave class relaxed and energized. I wanted more background and a resource for developing my own routine that I can do more frequently than the class meets. This book was perfect for that. I love the routine that I developed and do it most days and feel that I am making a positive impact on my whole self.
This book was really helpful to better understand the basics of our health and to start to manage it in a very proactive way. The exercises are all simple and can be performed by everyone and brought almost immediate change to my current condition. I look forward to seeing what changes will come as I practice consistently for some time. Very grateful for then insight and tools!
This book is great; it helped me finally feel back in control of my stress levels! My physical health was starting to become negatively impacted from stress, and I’m finally feeling that turn around thanks to some of the practices in this book. It’s a great holistic approach and super easy to follow.
Good book. It brought clarity why we do these to keep our energy clean and healthy. Half-jokingly the author said even if you don't take a shower, as long as you do the Energy Clearing Meditation, you're good. You are getting fresh energy from source. I need to buy the belly button healing tool. There are also videos posted on Youtube.
Thank you for helping keep my health in order. I struggle with lots of headaches during the pandemic and my following the exercises help me develop warm belly and helped my headaches. Please try the simple and easy exercises.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Easy to read, understand & practice Ilchi Lees guidelines for energy circulation of the body & connecting to the health of this beautiful planet.
Seems like it’ll be helpful although I didn’t practice all the exercises yet. Glossed over many as I recognized them from yoga. I reserve judgement as it will take discipline to practice these exercises each day. However concept seems solid
So Good and guys I read it and while reading the first couple of Pages I was so overwhelmed because I have a HOT head all all all the time .. I hope the routines will help with that
We have within us a wonderful inner physician working to keep us healthy: the immunity and natural healing power built into our bodies and brains.
We’ve lost our sense for connecting and communicating with our bodies. Many people craft their ideal bodies but they don’t have a good feel for the state of their health to pay attention to the signal from body that their balance is broken.
Life is a series of challenges and changes. A person with a secure center can accept transitions, learning and growing through them, unafraid.
It is energy that brings good health and energy that causes disease.
A cold belly harms mental health. More than 95% of serotonin (happiness hormone) and 50% dopamine (pleasure feeling) are produced in the intestines.
In our modern era, the sympathetic system (alert mode) dominates too much of our time. As a result, body’s stress keeps us tense and in crisis mode. And as the duration of parasympathetic-system suppression lengthens, our bodies lose the opportunity to recharge.
We are disconnected from our bodies, living with our attention focused on the outside world instead of on our bodies.
Cancer is so scary because it takes a decade to reach centimeter but then barely a year to double in size because the number of size grows exponentially.
Look carefully at whether you have any patterns or habits moving you away from balance of body and mind. No one else can do it for you.
Exhale slowly for 3-4 breaths and your heart rate will slow and your blood pressure would come down. Through breathing, we can control more than body’s physiological functions. We can control our thoughts and emotions.
2003 Harvard Medical School study subjects imagined playing piano for five weeks without using actual instrument and part of their brains that control finger movements grew. This shows that physical structure of the brain can be changed by imagination alone.
Practice watching your thoughts and emotions arise without getting stuck in them. When you feel anger toward someone, observe the feeling, “Im mad at someone now”. Doing that will open a gap between you and your thoughts and emotions. When space appears between the two, you will be able to objectively your thoughts and emotions without identifying yourself with them and realize they’re not you but phenomena arising in your mind. This detached observation has the power to return everything to a condition of balance and harmony.
How long does it take you to get angry? No time at all. In the same way, it takes no time for your mood to improve.
