Kiara

I’m a marine. It was my responsibility to protect the generation ship but I failed. I can’t fix the past but I can change our future.

Twelve women were captured besides me and we’ve all been sold into slavery on this insane planet called Krix. Before we arrive at our new master's home, we’re attacked and four of my girls are captured. This shit just gets better and better.

The situation has changed but my mission is the same. Protect those I swore to, no matter what it takes. I will rescue my missing girls and then I will win our freedom.

It’s not only our alien ‘masters’ that stand in my way though. The biggest problem may be Anzil. He’s big, red, with a rock hard body, and sexy as the devil he could almost pass for. I don’t know if he’s an ally or an enemy but I do know that he makes my heart beat faster, my breath come short, and he’s made it more than clear what he wants. Me.

Can I trust him? Can I rescue my girls? Can I save us from slavery?

Anzil

I am Primus. The best that House Batius can put onto the sands of the arena. I’ve beaten every gladiator and every monster they’ve sent to stand against me.

No one dares stand against me. Except Kiara.

She’s tiny. With full lips, dark skin, an unruly mop of hair, and a backside that is made for tumbling. But she’s also brash, loud, and a highly skilled fighter in her own right. She isn’t going to back down for anyone or anything and the more she stands up to me, the more I want her.

I’ve never questioned my life as a Primus, owned by House Batius, but if my female wants freedom? I’ll take on the entire planet to make sure Kiara is liberated. I'll do anything for what's mine. And she is mine.

Spinning off from best-selling series the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss comes a new set of books, the Gladiators of Krix. From USA Today Bestselling Author Miranda Martin and her soulmate James D Horton, Anzil is a full length, standalone SFR novel with a happily ever after ending, plenty of steam, thrilling arena competitions and house politics.

Sexy red gladiator secure enough for a strong alpha female

This is a series that features a new couple with each story. I do NOT consider this to be a STAND-ALONE. For maximum reader satisfaction and to prevent spoilers, I HIGHLY recommend these be read in series order, as there are multiple reoccurring characters, consecutive timelines and overarching themes that connect them together. Skipping a story, reading them out of order, etc. will not provide the details of what occurred previously or provide HEAs for the couple(s).

The stories don’t end on a cliffhanger per say, more of a HFN with more to come in the next story to advance the series.

** This is an alien abduction series that centers around a planet that is governed by corrupt politicians and ‘owners’ that run gladiator arenas. It features scenes and themes of rape and enslavement that may be difficult for sensitive readers. **

Need to add some type of glossary or scene to cover some of the background of the planet and religion. Just saying there are some pretty innovative and descriptive cursing involving their religion. Plus it would be helpful to understand more about the ‘war’ that occurred previously that enabled this planet and their current political climate and behaviors.

The same as the previous story. If you are looking for romance, or a lot of intimate scenes, you will not find it within this series, or at least not so far. The story is more focused on building the universe and characters. Normally I don’t pay too close of attention to the quantity of these scenes, just that they fit within the concepts of the story laid out by the author(s). I think this parameter stuck out to me because it seems that Miranda and James went so far in the other direction to try, imo, to demonstrate how different the heroes thought of the heroines, that it undermined the heroines’ character and the authors’ intent.

This made Kiara, who Miranda and James did everything to make look like a bada$$, come off as someone who can’t multitask, or worse, sets herself up to ‘fail’ when she gives into her obvious attraction to Anzil.

What I do like about the stories / series, is the interwoven plot and the hope underlying each of the H/h relationships. The more I read about the owners and the planet, the more I am looking forward to when they get their just rewards! I just hope that it is drawn out and detailed …

There are numerous grammatical errors in the story, but nothing difficult to interpret (I.e. incorrect word choice, missing / incorrect punctuation and capitalization, and extra inserted / missing words). I uploaded my notes to Goodreads for anyone interested. I mention these for readers such as myself that visualize the story as it is read, because errors interrupt the flow.

BLURB:

This is a good addition to the Gladiators of Krix series, and the series is a good spin-off of the Red Planet Dragons of Tajss series -- but the gladiator scenes were a bit too violent for my taste. It also bothered me that the lives of the slaves seemed so hopeless, and that getting their freedom seemed nearly impossible. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded down to 3 stars.

Just an FYI -- You can read this book standalone, but it will be much better if you read the series in order. The plot in this book continues from the 1st book, and could be confusing if you started with this one.

I thought Anzil seemed a bit too cocky in the first book, but I liked him in this one. I liked that he didn't push Kiara into a relationship before she was ready. He even seemed to understand her reason for wanting to wait.

Kiara was likable enough, but her belief that it was her fault she and the other humans were slaves got a little old after a while. I get that she saw herself as a failure, because she couldn't prevent their suffering -- but she expected more of herself than was possible.

I will continue the series, as I am interested to see what happens with the other slaves, and their hopes to find their freedom.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Riveting read that was very enjoyable
This was the second book in this series and I can confirm that it was a welcome addition, once started I was hooked and read it in one sitting!
Space marine Kira was one of the women that had been captured and removed from the other women on the ship and has been sold into slavery along with a small group of females that she was supposed to be responsible for. She takes the responsibility of caring and guarding these females very seriously, they have become friends and she is determined she will fight for each and every one of her charges, if necessary, she will kill to keep them safe as she is a warrior.
The feelings that she has for Anzil has thrown her a little, he is Primus of the House of Batius and he is determined that along with Kira they intend to free the captured women from the House of Curtius.
Together they will work side by side to free the captured females or die trying, should this happen they will be sure to take a subsequent number of Curtius Warriors with them.
You will thoroughly enjoy this book and like myself be unable to put it down till you reach very last page and discover the outcome.
Another exiting read in the Gladiators of Kris saga. This one features heroine space marine Kira
captured and sold into slavery along with a group of females she was charged with protecting.
Kira is determined to free those women who were then subsequently taken by a rival gladiator
clan, House Curtius.
Her determination to rescue those women and gain their freedom along with her own clashes with the attraction she begins to feel towards Anzil, Primus of House Batius where they are both enslaved.
What follows is a well written saga in this new series filled with thrills, adventure, action and hot times romance on the planet Krix. Book #2 does not disappoint. HEA

Lists is a Marine on a mission...

Aboard their generational colony ship Kiara was a Marine, charged with protecting their people. The ship was attacked, as best she can tell destroyed, and she and a group of girls had the misfortune of being abducted and sold as slaves. The key, for Kiara, is that her mission hasn't changed. Before it was everyone on that ship she was protecting... Now it's A dozen girls, 4 of whom were separated from the group. But this is a mission she is determined to succeed at.

Anzil has been on Krix as a Gladiator, and slave, long enough he has lost the fire and passion that drive Kiara. Her lack of self preservation instincts gradually strikes him as... something else, something more meaningful... something he is willing to be part of.

This done in one stand alone Kindle Unlimited quick read picks up soon after the previous story, and involves many of the same characters, simply shifting who is center stage, but does not require you to have read the previous story to understand what is going on here.

Kiara and Anzil made a couple friends during this story, a trend I hope continues and pays off later in the overarching arc as out enslaved humans, and their matches, strive to attain freedom. (I also find myself hoping Ductores gets his own story.)

My final thought is this series has a Spartacus vibe in all the best possible ways.

I highly recommend you read the previous book (Xyron) before reading this book.

Anzil has worked hard to become Primus, an elite gladiator. He has given up on the idea of freedom, instead focusing on making it through the next arena battle. That is until the strange human makes him yearn for freedom. Kiara is a marine. Her ship might be gone, but she's going to protect the surviving women no matter what. With four of her charges taken, Kiara will do anything to get them back. Though she finds the strange alien attractive, she's not sure she can trust him.

I really liked these two. There was a lot of build-up to the actual relationship with them. Anzil showed how much he cared about Kiara in the little things. He gave her space when he could, trained her so she could fight her own battles, and protected her when he could. Kiara is very focused on getting her people to safety. I did get frustrated with her at times, she needs to learn patience and strategy if she's going to save the other women. I like the chemistry between these two.

I'm looking forward to seeing what is next for this series.

Enjoyable and intriguing

Book 2 in the Gladiators of Krix series is both a steamy romance and another fascinating glimpse into the violent and corrupt world of Krix. Anzil, the Number One ranked gladiator in his master's house falls in love with a beautiful and totally badass human Marine named Kiara. She does herself proud in becoming one of the house Gladiators, but her real mission is the rescue of all the human women captured from their destroyed generation ship. Guilt is her main motivator, but her avowed mission conflicts badly with her growing attraction to Anzil. It's a dilemma of trust and truthfulness, and overwhelming sexual attraction. Both Anzil and Kiara are forced to confront their changing perceptions of each other, as they realize how deep their attraction goes. Krix is further set up as the bastion of an evil, slave trading, power-mad race of degenerate imperialists, and the depth of depravity that pervades the Krixian civilization becomes a spur to the flanks of Gladiators and slaves, human and alien. Love may not be enough - there may be rebellion too! Stay tuned...

Marine Kara and 12 other women are captured and sold into slavery on Krix but before they arrive at their new master's house they are attacked and four of them are captured. However, as far as Kiara is concerned her mission is still to protect those she swore to although it might not just be her alien masters who stand in the way of her doing that as the biggest problem might be Primus Adzil who is big and red with a rock hard body and incredibly sexy. What she is not sure if whether he is an ally or an enemy. Anzil is the Primus and the best gladiator that House Batius can put into the arena. No one dares to stand against him except Kiara with her tiny frame, dark skin, a skilled fighter and refusal to back down (which just makes him want her more). Having never questioned his life before Kiara is now making him want freedom just to make her happy. After all, he will do anything for what is his and she is definitely his.

I liked this story which had lots of drama and danger while also showing that sometimes it was better to control your temper in order to get a better reward later on. I loved the fire and spirit in Kiara as well as the determination in Anzil. Easy to read and understand. Contains some explicit sexual content.

I love this spin-off series. I love the original also. Kiara and several other women were kidnapped from the Generation Ship and sold as slaves. Kiara is a marine and feels responsible for the all of the woman. Their group is attacked and four of the women are taken to parts unknown. Kiara vows she will find them and return them to her location until she can figure out a way to get off the planet. She trains with the gladiators in hopes of finding a way out. Anzil is the top gladiator and he want Kiara. She is attracted to him but insists she needs to find the missing women before she can think about a relationship. Anzil doesn't give up. He is determined to win her heart. What will happen? A fantastic story and series.

I love the Gladiators of Krix! This book was well developed and inviting! It has a great plot and the flow of the story, well it was superb as you feel from one scene to the next the suspense and drama that these authors create! Not once did I feel as if it was going to lag at all. The character and world building was beyond good. You really get the sentiment that these characters are written for the reader. James and Miranda wrote characters that the reader can delve into and escape from some of the horrors that are happening in this world of ours. This book was a great escape. It is one that I will be recommending! If you have not read this book yet, it is a must read! The best escapism that is out there and beyond! Wonderful authors and a great story that will keep you engaged and intrigued.

Anzil is Primus, having worked his way up to the premier gladiator. Kiara was a Marine who was to protect a dozen women, but they were captured and sold into slavery. Now Anzil is training Kiara to be ready to fight when she tries to free the women held in another clan. Despite Anzil’s help, she is not sure where his loyalties lie. But he has made it clear that he wants her. Will Kiara get the opportunity to rescue the women? Will Anzil be by her side or will he let her go to fight her own battle?

This is a well-written book that keeps the reader’s attention as the story line plays out. Rescuing a dozen women will be a daunting job, but Kiara is firm in her determination to do just that. Will she succeed? Grab your copy and see how her training preparation gets her in shape for this rescue. Where would she take them from there?

Even warriors need love

This is the second book in a series but is easy to read as a stand alone as you very soon get a good understanding of what has gone on before. Two tough warriors from very different species , recreations of Roman gladiator " games " on an alien planet and a desperate need to rescue fellow humans and escape even as our heroine is confined as a slave /gladiator herself . Noble intentions , emerging love, a game of hide and seek with life or death results and past regrets all lend themselves to a tense story of love amid almost impossible odds . If you like stories of alien cultures and intergalactic love then this is for you

I savored and enjoyed reading this story about Anzil, Primus of the House of Batius and Kiara, space Marine. I didn't read the first book but I was able to follow the plot and the premise of this story that's the second book in this series. Kiara is captured with twelve other women that are sold to different clans. Kiara vows to rescue the women that were sold to a rival clan but first she has to survive her own ordeal and obtain freedom. Kiara only help is Anzil who she has mixed feelings for on this hostile planet with hidden hints of the Roman empire. The characteristic of Anzil and Kiara were likable, the romance spicy plus the world building was detailed in this Alien Romance I volunteer to read and review via Booksprout.

This is a fantastic story by Miranda Martin and James Horton. I love this new series by her and I love how it is a collaboration between husband and wife. I have been a fan of Miranda Martin for years now. I loved the interactions between Anzil and Kiara. I love how they spar with each other. Kiara has been taken captive and sold on an interesting world. Some of the other girls are taken when they are traveling to their new home as slaves. She will stop at nothing to get them back. There is one problem and that is Anzil. Anzil has never met anyone like Kiara before. She changes his way of thinking about his life. Will they be able to find a way to happiness?

Kiara is tough and even though she feels she failed her people when the generationship was attacked, she refuses to fail the survivors who escaped with her. She focuses on finding the four separated from her group and figuring out a way to escape and gain their freedom. Her strength and determination only make Anzil fall that much harder and deeper in love. Will Kiara allow herself to love while four of her girls are separated and experiencing any unknown number of horrors? Read to find out and you will be eagerly waiting for the next in the series!

This story is the second in the offshoot of the Dragons of Tajss. Having read the first book I was looking forward to this book so I could read Anzil & Kaira’s story. If you are wanting to read about gladiators, alpha males and strong women this is the storyline for you. If you are expecting to have anyone mention Tajss, you are out of luck. I am hoping the storyline will converge with Tajss soon because my heart is on Tajss. However, the gladiator series is still exciting, adventurous and sexy! Enjoy!

Kira is a space marine that has been captured and sh and a few other have been removed and are being sold. She will fight to the death to protect those women. Anzil is from the Primus of the House of Batius and he is just as determined to rescue the human women and make Kira as his mate. Love this series. Anzil has eyes only for Kiara, but Kiara is only focused on getting her girls back. They are her responsibility and that's her mission, since they've been captured and sold as slaves, then, separated from each other, not some sexy alien slave gladiator. However, they both have their share of failures that haunt them. Can they get past them and find their own happiness? All the while trying to find a way out of slavery together. Loved the story and the characters, can't wait for the next book in the series.

Fast easy read. You will probably enjoy reading the first book in the series before this one but this will work as a standalone. Kira is a Marine! She was responsible for the women and when they are taken as slaves, she is determined to free them. I loved her - she was determined and persistent and knew she was right and wasn't going to let anything stop her, even Anzil. Anzil is fascinated by the tiny woman who is so strong and powerful. It didn't take him long to realize that working together they could all be free. I'm enjoying the series so far and expect to continue to do so -- I'm ready for more!

This is a book about alien gladiators and human women that have been abducted and sold as slaves to work for the dominus. It has lots of action, some steamy scenes and a happy ever after. Anzil wants kiara to be his mate, after she tries escaping he asks her to sleep in his room, his excuse being that he wants to stop her from trying again. Shes very creative though. She wants off the planet but refuses to leave her girls behind. Anzil and xylon think of ways to escape. If they are going to do it then they will have to work together.

Slaves of Kyrix

Kiara was a marine, when pirates attacked the ship they were on. They sold the human females at an auction. She feels responsible for their safety. 4 of the women were kidnapped before they get to their destination, now she is more determined than ever to retrieve them back. She trains with the other gladiators, pushing herself to the point of exhaustion.
Anzil, a gladiator, takes it upon himself to train her. He finds her sexy, smart, intelligent n a warrior with spirit.
This series shows the spirit, determination, n fire of the human woman to survive even under extreme conditions.

Anzil is Primus, the premier gladiator, and he is training Kiara. Kiara was a Marine, but gladiator skills are different. She is also weaker than she should be, and he knows he has to build her up for survival and success. Kiara has one goal, and that is to find the rest of the women. Even if they are still slaves, if she can find them, she can help keep them safe, but her short temper and willful ways make it hard for Anzil to help. This chapter of their story gives us a better look into the Krix world and society. It's not a nice look.

Kiara was a Marine Commander on the generation’s ship she and the other women were taken from. After they were sold as slaves Kiara vowed to get the women together again before they can all escape to safety. Leave no man behind. The harsh planet they were brought to conducts gladiator games to settle issues and gain status. I am always happy when the main female character is such a kick-ass, strong, sassy and amazing female as the one in this story! Of course, Anzil, the hero, is just as alpha, protective and amazing to be able to make Kaira fall in love with him! Great world building, action packed scenes, drama and sexy times round out this story that was hard to put down until the end.
This is a standalone story, but it is much more enjoyable when read in order.

This heroine does not wait for the prince to rescue her. With strong action scenes, a thorough sense of duty, plus a hot alien as a buddy, she means business.

What a great book to dream away, located on a gladiator-style planet.

The characters are well worked out, fantastic world-building; I loved the alien planet and life forms. They are well described and not too long to distract you from the main storyline.

As the second book in the series, the action and adventure continues! Anzil, as Primus, is the best of the gladiators in his house but still a slave. As he watches the human warrior Kiara train, he is intrigued. Then he helps in her training and quickly realizes he is falling for her but Kiara, a marine, has her own mission - retrieve the four women who were stolen by another house and free all the human women from slavery. She is very attracted to Anzil but the mission comes first. They come together to free themselves and all the human women and fall in love in the process.
