Some days, I feel like the odd man out… that reader that must be impossible to please. Because everyone else seems to have liked this book. Everyone but me. I enjoyed the first couple of installments in this series, but the last one was a real miss for me. A good friend assured me, though, that the series gets better. I won’t say that she lied, but I will say this is clearly a matter of perspective.

Much like the last book, I was excited about the premise. Kane has been a dark and brooding mystery since day one. He is heavily scarred and doesn’t remember anything about his life before he joined the Order. I love tortured heroes, especially when I get to see their salvation through love. Unfortunately, how it was executed was neither something a path I expected or enjoyed.

Our heroine is Sarah. She has lived her entire life in fear of the Calydon warriors who are determined to kill her. Her very own brother is on the verge of succeeding once and for all when Kane hears her mental cry for help. He saves her life and takes her under his protection. She soothes him. For the first time he can remember, he is feeling something other than the blackness that has been threatening his soul. Sarah is a being of light. She gives him peace where he had none before. And he vows he will repay that with gift by assuring her safety. And having wild sex with her.

Sarah is afraid to trust Kane. She has been burned before by a man she loved. This is not the first time she has been someone’s sheva. So the book follows her internal struggle as part of her wants to give herself over to Kane and the other, fears she will fall victim to the same violence that nearly destroyed her years ago.

I had a few problems. The first is that the emotional responses from both Kane and Sarah are totally over the top. It reminded me a little of the Christine Feehan Carpathian books, where everything is just so big and poetic. All of emotions are soul-deep. The heroine isn’t just Kane’s mate, but all that is goodness and light. Kane isn’t just conflicted, he is eroded by darkness. And again, the crazy need-filled sex bridges the gap. This made me roll my eyes. As did Ryland’s steadfast devotion Sarah and her special status. But this wasn’t was I disliked most.

The big mystery here is the question of who Kane was before he joined the Order. Sarah has her suspicions that play out over the course of the book. It was the answer that left me put off.

I just couldn’t get on board. I couldn’t believe in the emotions, because they were borderline ridiculous. They were completely unrelatable. There was nothing to the romance other than fated mates and the juxtaposition of lightness and dark. The characters were superficial, and the hero was ruined. This was just not the romance for me.

Darkness Reborn
I have loved every single book in this series, but all for different reasons. Yet with Darkness Reborn, Stephanie Rowe has truly out done herself. She's managed to create a unique read with the fifth book in her Order of the Blade Series, whilst managing to retain a familiar style, pattern and the wonderful characters that I have grown to love.

In Darkness Reborn, we follow the many trials and tribulations of the mysterious Kane and the beautiful Sarah. My emotions were constantly in turmoil as I was successfully sucked into Kane and Sarah's world. Stephanie very effectively developed two amazing characters that were impossible not to fall in love with. I cheered, celebrated, gasped and was held in a collection of horror states as the story unfolded. For a paranormal romance, in a world of fantasy, Stephanie Rowe certainly knows how to create a world so realistic, and so believable that it was impossible not get caught up in the unfolding drama.

Darkness Reborn is a remarkable story of love, loss and self-discovery. Perfect!

I was about to start reading this. Then I read a review by another Goodreads reviewer, now I remember this book. This book was the best of what I had read so far. The things the hero in this will do for the woman he loves and his family are amazing. I just wanted to jot this down on here so I would remember that I read this book. Now to try to figure out where I left off.

In Darkness Awakened, the first book of The Order of the Blade, we were introduced to a group of immortal warriors, known as the Calydons, cursed with a dark side. Each Warrior is destined to meet his soul mate, so drawn to her, that he is unable to resist bonding with her…..but the lover’s destiny is to destroy each other and everything they care about, the moment the bond is complete.

In Darkness Reborn, we finally get to read Kane’s story. The mysterious warrior with Talismans carved all over his body and no memory of who he is. Kane is searching for his past and he has found his answers with Sarah, his soul mate. But Sarah has her own secrets and wounded history. These two tortured souls must learn to trust each other before they destroy themselves and the rest of the world.

The connection between Kane and Sarah is instant and strong. The scenes between these two were extremely passionate and fiery.

Take a deep breath before you start reading, because I found myself actually holding my breath several times throughout the story. Stephanie takes us for a emotional ride from the first page till the very end. It’s was a roller coaster ride of emotions, action and non-stop adventure. There were a few times I even caught myself yelling at the pages. And I loved that there was just a touch of humor to help ease the high volume of tension that was bouncing from the pages.

Darkness Reborn is an absolute AMAZING read!!!

WOW! I knew going into this book that Kane had some crazy stuff happen to him in his past. I also knew he was pretty messed up from all that stuff. What I didn’t know was just how seriously messed up both him & his past were. What a roller coaster ride I was on while reading this book. Sarah is a very interesting female character and through her story we find out more about Kane, and get some hints into things that might come in the future books. I just love the little hints or teasers if you will that Stephanie litters her books with. They always make me crazy anxious waiting for the upcoming releases. I was also surprised that even though this was Kane’s story and he was the main focus, I found myself becoming a major Thano fan! I am kind of glad that I read this in ebook format because I am afraid I might have ripped the pages in a print book trying to get to the next page. Stephanie Rowe has definitely become a MUST-read author for me and I highly recommend the Order of the Blade series to everyone.

Stephanie Rowe manages yet another great hit! She always manages to write with such passion that it flows off of the pages and straight into her readers. If you like action packed paranormal romance and you haven't read this series yet, I have to highly recommend that you do!! All the stories in this series have been very intense but this one is the most intense so far. Kane and Sarah are put to test after test and have to discover if they each have what it takes to overcome all their obstacles. Very action packed, very emotional ride that will leave you trying to catch your breath for a long time after you have finished!

I'm restarting this series after a long break and this was a great first full length novel to get back into the wonderful world of the Order of the Blade. This really kicks off a trilogy of sorts, looking for some key components to their survival.

Kane is a man with a mysterious past. He was found and taken in by the order, but knows he had a life before then. As with all other warriors, he is determined to make no attachments. All of that changes when he hears a woman screaming for help. He ends up saving her from some very enhanced rogues and trying to save her. Surprise! She doesn't want to be saved, which is a bit of a learning experience for the overbearing brute.

Sarah has been burned before. The man she loved ended up destroying her entire world not too long ago (in her life). She is used to taking care of herself and those around her, so she doesn't fit the bill for "damsel in distress," much to Kane's irritation. These two have a definite connection, but aside from the sexual chemistry, the background remains a mystery for most of the book. It turns out, however, Sarah and Kane are destined to save on another.

The story of Sarah and Kane kick off a bit of a separate story. There is still a big bad out there, but it is not all resolved in this book. Step one is complete by the ending, but we know there is still more work to be done. That made it easy to binge these books so quickly.

This author delivers!

Well, this series appears to have taken an unexpected turn! Ian's backstory makes his previous appearance in these books now seem heartbreaking; now there's the Catherine/Alice dilemma, and how a mate can not be a mate, and what is tormenting Alice and why...I can't believe Ian hasn't already cracked! Love the intrigue, LOVE the off-the-charts, desperation-fueled passion...I'm even enjoying the twist of a mid-series mini novella that isn't immediately followed by the same couple's story. I can't wait to continue with this series!

Best one yet

This one has got to be the best one so far. It tells a story rather than just about " boy meets girl, boy has sex with girl over and over". And the story is fantastic . It's a great continuation from the last books but, introduces new characters with new agendas. I highly recommend this series. If you are a fan of J.R. Ward, this is right up your alley. Have fun!!!

Surprisingly different but the same sort of plot as the first four books. There is always such a different twist to the stories that one get sucked in immediately. Rowe is a good storyteller and this book is no exception from her others. This series is a good release from current day issues and statements of societal problems. Just good reading with a little steamy romance to heat up the reading. Now on book six and still holding my interest....

This series is becoming repetitive and maudlin. Repeating the backstory over and over and over again. The obsession that the warriors have for their Shevas. It’s starting to make me nauseated. The action is great however as is the plot. Even the Sheva seemed smothered by their warrior’s single mindedness.

Kane and Sarah

Another great addition to this series.

In this book we get to find out about all the scars on Kane, what they mean, why he has them.
Sarah is his Sheva and so much more.
We also get to see more of the order together. There are so many forces at work here. They all come together to help family and for the greater good.

I can’t wait to continue on with the series.

Best one ever

This is probably the best of the series. Deeply emotional and filled with action and suspense as the mysteries unfold. Not all questions were answered. Lost a character but it makes me hope these things will be taken care of in the next book. I give it a solid A

The fifth book in author Stephanie Rowe's dark and sexy ORDER OF THE BLADE series! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies.com:

Sarah is the last angel left. The rest have been killed by the monster Los Muertes, a Calydon created especially to get rid of all the angels, when he decimated her village of Akara. He managed to kill most of the angels before he was contained. To get him under control, talismans were carved into his skin, keeping the demon within him contained. While unconscious, he was taken away to another city and left. But now he is back…and evil stalks the village.

Kane, a Calydon and a member of the Order of the Blade, an organization that protects the earth from rogue Calydons, has no memory of his past except for waking up in a strange place with his body covered in talismans. For hundreds of years, he has sought his past unsuccessfully. Drawn to the village of Akara, he hears a woman screaming and comes to her aid, never dreaming that the woman is an angel who could prove to be his salvation. But can he overcome the darkness within him for the light and love of the angel he cannot do without?

Does their love stand a chance, or is it the beginning of the end for humanity?

An action-packed tale, DARKNESS REBORN, the fifth book in award winning author Stephanie’s ORDER OF THE BLADE series, is a beautifully written, dark and sexy paranormal romance that will grab your attention from the very beginning and not let go until the satisfying conclusion. Although it is part of a series, it is not necessary to read the previous books in the series to understand and enjoy this one. The suspense runs high in this adventurous tale and will have readers on the edge of their seats. With complex characters, danger, mystery, suspense, sizzling hot passion, an exciting plot, clever banter and romance, Ms. Rowe has written a captivating story that will have readers reading late into the night, avidly turning the pages to see what happens next. My only problem was that I hated to see the story end, forced to leave behind the wonderful characters, Kane and Sarah, whose sexual chemistry is off-the-charts. Once more, phenomenal author Stephanie Rowe has penned a winner. For additional enjoyment, also check out the other books in this delicious series; DARKNESS AWAKENED, DARKNESS SEDUCED, DARKNESS SURRENDERED and FOREVER IN DARKNESS. As I await the release of the next book in this series, DARKNESS ARISEN, be sure to pick up your own copy of DARKNESS REBORN. I highly recommend it!

Destruction or salvation?

Kane Santiago is a Calydon warrior and a member of an elite order that protects humanity against rogue Calydons. Kane can't remember his past, and doesn't know why he has ancient talismans carved into his skin or what they mean. He has a void inside him that has been taking on a dark and violent taint.

Sarah Burns is the light to his dark, a special woman who is in danger from the rogue Calydons of her town. Kane, as a Calydon warrior on the verge of going rogue, is a man she shouldn't trust. He's unpredictable and could turn on her at any moment. Yet Kane has a powerful urge to keep her safe, and she has a powerful connection to him. Will he be her destruction, or will she be his salvation?

♥♥♥♥♥

Kane is a hero who is tortured by the fact that he can't remember his past. He's afraid that there is a good reason he can't remember it. The darkness within him suggests that there is. When he meets Sarah, he finds someone to live for, someone he's driven to protect. Someone who is his. Because Kane strives to overcome the void and darkness within him to be a better person for Sarah, he is a noble, honorable hero you'll come to love.

Sarah is special in a way that I won't reveal. She is light, faith, and hope. She is Kane's opposite. But she has a tragic past and good reason to distrust and fear Kane. Sarah tries to stay away from him, but Fate binds them together as soul mates. Sarah is a heroine who has a strong moral compass and who has the ability to make difficult decisions when necessary. She's an admirable character.

Darkness Reborn moves quickly with plenty of action and fight scenes. The climax is page-turning. Tragedy befalls a favorite character from the series, though my guess is that we haven't seen the last of him. Although Kane and Sarah's story is concluded, the next story arc of the series is set up.

Ian's story, Darkness Arisen, is next. It will be good to see him get his Happily Ever After.

Another installment to the series :-)

**Spoiler Alert**

I enjoyed Kane's story, it was entertaining and it was nice to see the Order of the Blade come together again. I read this story for the second time and I thought I would grow to like Sarah more but out of all the females, she's just not one of my favorites. She's a little too indecisive for me but overall I still really enjoyed reading the story. There were some parts of the book that didn't make sense to me and I don't think I'll even understand it. Parts of the plot weren't explained which made some parts of the story confusing to me. I'm not sure if anyone else caught the mishaps or not…

I am a little confused about Kane's story..maybe someone could clarify for me? Kane is half demon half angel. His father is Luc who used to be an angel of death. He fell in love with a woman he was supposed to kill... but he decided not to kill her and instead killed an innocent. This made him susceptible to the demons. So the demons claimed him and he became their tool to destroy the village. So my questions are: Was Luc sent to kill Kane's mom (since he's Kane's father)? If so, are angels of death suppose to kill other angels (Kane's mother was an angel)? If Kane is half demon, did Luc impregnate Kane's mom after he turned into a demon? I thought he fell in love before he was a demon? I'm confused.

Kane Santiago was the Calydon warrior that had ancient designs carved into his skin. He had no idea where they came from or even where he came from. For 500 years he had been a Calydon warrior after being found in the gutter by Dante but he still had a huge emptiness inside him like he was void a soul. He fought for the Order's mission even though he felt he had no moral center.

Sarah Burns is an angel. They are very rare and not many left. She grew up in a village called Akara where as a child a black specter who haunted the woods called Los Muerte wiped out all of the angels from the village but a very few six hundred years ago. Sarah fears from the beginning that Kane might be Los Muerte but she also knows that she is his sheva and they have already completed part of the bond.

As the story goes on we find out Kane's history and who is behind the creation of Los Muerte. This person is making all of the just turned warriors turn into killing machines and he wants all of the angels and Calydon warrior wiped off the face of the earth.

Can Kane find his true self again - the man with a soul or will he forever be doomed to be a soulless demon called Los Muerte.

2.5 stars - It doesn't get really better. After Illusionists, Satinkas, now we have, ladies and gents, angels and demons! Yeah, well, I surmised pretty early that Kane was - at least partly - a demon. Meeting an angel, Sarah, who will save him. Haha, I didn't expect that!
And again, the constant intern blah-blah-blah "he's evil, I don't want to trust him, but he has good in him and I want to trust him", "she/he is my savior", and so on... thanks, but no thanks. Make up your minds, guys! How can centuries-old people have so little faith in themselves, be so insecure, be so indecisive! I know this is basically romance and not just fantasy but it seems to me that the author wants to place romance in the context of a fantasy world. And that world has to be carefully built, with a solid plot - I have sometimes the feeling that the storyline is all over the place - and a detailed background world. This is book #5 in the series and not a single word about how the Order of the Blade and its members interact with the mere humans. Am I too demanding?

I really, really love these books. I cannot stop over-enthusing about them. Every book in this series has its own challenges and I've yet to feel disappointed in any of them.

I adored Kane, and Sarah won me over pretty quickly too. What I love most about these books is that everyone has a past, they all have issues, and there are so many challenges to be worked out. Of course, we know that they will be worked out in the end, but the books do keep us guessing about how that will come about.

I had been looking forward to reading Kane's story and finding out more about this mysterious Calydon. This book did not disappoint. It has also peaked my interest in Ryland, so I hope his story isn't too far off.

The book is well-written, packed full of action (both the steamy and the dangerous types), contains real emotion connections, and managed to hold my interest the entire way through. As soon as I finished, I picked up the next in the series. I don't see myself getting tired of this series any time soon.

I was highly anticipating Kane's story; but, I kind of felt a tad disappointed. The relationship between Kane and Sarah felt rushed; and the phrase "Son of a bitch" was used constantly as if that was the only phrase Kane was familiar with....I don't know, I guess after reading such great relationship buildups and wonderful background stories behind the characters of the past three books, I wanted more; especially with Kane and his mysterious past that was evident through the scars on his body. It would have been better, in my own opinion, if Sarah and Kane had a little more depth to their relationship building....or, I could have just maybe liked the other three heroines because of the fact that they were all introduced at some point in the very first book, so I kind of got to know them a bit before their own individual stories came out....

I have loved every single book in this series! This book, about Kane Santiago, is about a man who does not know his past. He has all these scars on his body, but no idea how he got them. He came to be a member of the Order of the Blade through Dante, the leader of this organization. Dante is the one who helped Kane move on, even though he never knew who he was or where he came from. Kane is now the "protector" of an angel, who is almost the last of her kind. Through this book we learn about the scars on Kane's body, and how they possibly got there. If you have never read one of Stephanie Rowe's books, you should open your mind to other kinds of paranormal genre's, as Stephanie will take you to places you never thought possible!

I have to preface this review by saying that I knew this one would be awesome. I had been intrigued by Kane throughout the first books in this series and I was salivating for his story. When I found out what a challenge this book was to write, I knew it would be memorable. I've always thought that the toughest stories to write are the ones that have a longer lasting and deeper impact. And this one was no exception. Kane's story have stuck with me weeks after reading the story. This is not only a wonderful addition to the Order of the Blade world, but is a fabulous story that will leave you wanting more long after you have read, and re-read, the last paragraph. Stephanie Rowe never disappoints and yet again, proves to us all why she is one of the best paranormal romance authors out there.
