1. He’s on a super-secret, important mission for the Rebellion. He’ll be undercover on a hostile planet, surrounded by people that want to kill him. 2. He’s gorgeous. Entirely unattainable. Way, way out of my league. 3. I’m forty, but I’m supposed to pose as his fake fiancée. 4. And he’s a really, really good actor, because when he kisses me, it feels real. When he wraps his arms around me, I want to stay in his embrace forever. (Okay, fine, that’s four reasons.)
This mission hasn’t even started, and it’s already a disaster.
Top 3 Reasons I should stay away from Naomi:
1. I’m on a super-secret, important mission for the Rebellion. I’ll be undercover on a hostile planet, and I might not be able to protect her. 2. This isn’t the time for a pretend-relationship. With Naomi as my fake wife. There’s nothing fake about my feelings for her. She’s so beautiful. And strong. And we can’t keep our hands off each other... 3. This is a bad idea. I know it is.
But the first time we touched, I knew Naomi was my mate. No matter what happens on the mission, I cannot let her go.
The following ratings are out of 5: Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍 Character development: 🥲😳😋😙😘
The heroine:Naomi - She is 40 years old and was married and lost her husband before she signed up to go into space. Little did she know some of the Zorahn scientists that promised the women safety had actually meant to use those human women for torturous science experiments on their genetics. She was severely tortured for many months before she was rescued by Danek. She now has severe PTSD and the only person she trusts is Danek since he was the one who picked her up in his arms and saved her.
The Hero:Danek (a.k.a. Fifth) - he is one of the Crimson Force, the six original Draekons who were created in a lab over 1000 years ago, experimented on and tortured in order to force compliance. Though when the Draekons became too powerful and were all about to be killed by the Zorahn government, the lead scientist who created the six disappeared with them in stasis pods and crash landed on an uninhabited planet. They were found and woken earlier this year and were charged by the rebels with finding missing human women.
The Story: Danek tells the rebels he can’t go on more missions, because he wants to concentrate on finding his brother ‘First’. First wants to kill all Draekons because he sees them as not pure like him and his brothers and he wants to get rid of them and re-populate with pure Draekons. However, both First and the Rebels found out that all Zorahn people carry the Draekon gene, so they don’t know what he will do next.
The real reason Danek doesn’t want to go is because he feels he has to stay to help Naomi who is suffering and only is comfortable with Danek. Though the rebels tell him that if he doesn’t go to Noturn to see if a prison is being built to house the people that failed the Draekon gene testing, that they will ask Kadir to go instead, Kadir is mated so Danek agrees to go and they talk Naomi into going along as well.
The book was told in the points of view of both main characters using dual narration. Like the last book, this one was narrated by Natasha Lawless and Jasper Woodcock. Both of them did a great job and I enjoy listening to them. They have great voices for audiobooks.
I really enjoyed the story in this one, Danek and Naomi had to pretend to be a couple on another planet while he posed as an inspector and searched for the prison being built. They got very close and had these cute fluffy little pets. It was both romantic and steamy.
If you weren't feeling bad before about being or reaching 40, you sure will after reading this.
Our heroine just throws her age in the readers face every few pages. She can't wear this bcs she's 40. She can't have amazing sex bcs she's 40. She can't find love with an attractive person bsc she's 40.
How is that empowering ? It just makes you feel like shit right along with her.
I don't dislike reading about my heroines insecurities but don't make it a character trait.
Millions of people deal with trauma, day after day. The universe doesn’t stop for them. The universe stops for no one. “You wake up. You walk around. You build a bridge back to normalcy, brick by brick, and it’s eventually strong enough to sustain you.”
This story was the saddest. Naomi has severe PTSD from the time she was abducted and experimented on and Danek has so much guilt that has given him severe depression and anxiety. The brothers have mentioned parts in the other books and it was bad. Attempted suicide bad. It’s severe. The weird or miraculous thing is that finding each other made them stronger. They wanted to be better, stronger, for the other and that made them overcome. Are they 100% healed. No. In fact they still have a long way to go BUT they are no longer stuck. They are moving forward. And it was so cute to see them overcome. The whole fake marriage, undercover operation, killer planet thing kept everything entertaining and moving along. You know, plot. Pumpkin, Plague, and Pestilence the adorable pets stole the show for me! Guess who names which pet? Hahaha.
Naomi and Danek were softer but not any less dangerous and I love how different each couple is. And how much these brothers love each other. Towards the end when *spoiler* and Sixth breaks down and cries I lost it. They love each other like brothers and this book had them all together for the first time. It was great. I have so many questions about First. Does he have a power? What is it? Why is he so different? Does he love his brothers? Does he love? I’m tired of him but I’m also so very curious.
I was soooooo tired of First. I’m glad this book gave me a break between First and the big finale in Sixth’s book. Because obviously it will all go down in his story. Sixths gets his mate next and we finally get to see the end of First. At least I hope. I’m so tired of him. I’m wondering about his mate too. Would it be someone evil? Did he kill his mate and go even more crazy? I have so many questions about him. Questions that are most likely never going to be answered since he won’t have a book. But geez, I need him to die already.
I know it says they are standalone but,you would so enjoy it much better if you read them in order then you'd be suffering with me until 2021 for Rebel Force Book 5😊
This was a fantastic read. I love this series of hunky aliens trying to save their world. Plenty of action, a sweet love story and alien cats. What’s not to love!
Love over 40 with the handsome damaged man? Yes please. I’m a bit of a sucker for books with MCs who have mental health disorders. Both of these characters do and their healing journey is precious AF. I was a bit uncertain when they trotted out the old fake dating trope (my least fave) but it worked out ok.
This book was a little darker and more real about the PTSD that comes from torture. It was also a sweet love story between two people that really needed love and support in their lives.
What I love about these books is that the pairings always work. There is chemistry there. The plot is ok and the general arc of the story flows really well. I'm glad I found this series to keep my attention so that I can read it through. I am very curious about Liz and Yafet.
I really admire Naomi. She has had to go through so much and survived so much and she has managed to come out the other side and find her strength. I think that she learned a lot about herself on this mission and about what she can and can't handle. I don't think that she'll ever be rid of all her triggers and trauma, but that's how PTSD work.
I think that Danek is a very good man, Draekon, whatever. I think that he takes a lot of guilt on himself, even if he doesn't deserve that guilt. He really does care a lot for Naomi though, and it is really obvious.
I can't wait to see what happens in upcoming books.
Both Naomi and Danek have their weaknesses and strengths as well as guilt. Naomi with her PTSD from being captured and tortured and Danek with his guilt from perceived failings. All those feelings don't make a real difference when it comes to their feelings for each other that are kept to themselves. I adored Danek and his loyalty and affection for Naomi and her attraction to Danek they each soothe the other in their own special way. I felt so badly for Naomi who's PTSD cripples her at times and Danek who has found his mate who soothes his internl pain. If only they communicated more I could have celebrated their love for each other much sooner, but I sure enjoyed their small discoveries as each found their strong sexual attraction irresistible. I cheered when Naomi finally decided to just go for it and jump Danek's bones!
When the originally read the title of 'Draekon Warlord', I expected something so different and came away pleasantly surprised. See, in my mind, I thought the series was about to end with this book and had a small panic going. This is the story of Danek, aka Five, and Naomi, one of the Earth women he saved from being tortured by the scientists. Each of these characters is carrying some type of damage. Danek's guilt is from something that happened in his past. Naomi has PTSD from her experience. The journey these two face, both individually and together, is heartbreaking and heart-warming. I'm so vested in this series and can't wait for each new one to come out and the small bit I've read from 'Draekon Guardian' appears to be just as glorious.
I'm lazy today so this is going to be a short review. This wasn't my favorite of the series and was a little more emotionally deep than I was expecting with less steam. So not entirely what I was expecting to read. Fun series though!
Addicting so so addicting like potato chips you can't stop at just one💖
I know there is a series before this one ambushed its good I just don't know if it appeals to me like this one did. Once I started I couldn't stop and Danek's story is the second to last in the Rebel Force series. I can't stand the fact that I can't read sixth and Liz's story yet. the wait night drive me insane.lol😉 in love that the female lead was 40. You don't always get to many older woman romance they always fill me with hope because I'm of that age okay maybe a bit older. Lol Naomi has been through some of the worst torture. She's was na absolutely mess w When fifth round her. She had put herself in harm's way time and time again to shield the young woman imprisoned with her. She had gone e that after the death of her husband this new like in space would be an amazing adventure for her what she got was hell and torture. That is until Fifth rescued her. Danek or Fifth new the minute he touched Naomi that she was his mate but he refused to do anything about it because she needed to heal that is if she were ab!e. He would do everything in his power to make sure she was never hurt again. Healing is a slow process he should know this himself he hasn't truly recover from his own trauma of forgiven his sins. When both of them and upon a mission together they can no longer right the electric attraction. What was supposed to be an act is all to deal for both of them. Both have insecurities both need to forgive themselves and both need to see that what is between them are the bonds of love that can not and will not be broken. Lots of action, the over at bing storyline unfurled more by the end not only is there not but a bond deep terror of what is to come. While the passion is smoking hot 🔥between the couple the story is fun, well written and overall entertaining. !save me wanting more I can't wait to read Sixth's story. I highly recommend the series not Dragon alpha shifters and the strong women they love and who love them in return. What's not to enjoy😘💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖
Danek and Naomi - all the intrigue and all the swoons
I loved Danek and Naomi’s fake marriage undercover story. Naomi is a widow and a bank manager who embarked on what she thought was a diplomatic mission into space but ended up being kidnapped and tortured by alien scientists. Danek is a Draekon Warrior. He was created in a laboratory and has been in stasis for a thousand years along with the five other Draekon Warriors. He is woken from stasis by the Rebellion to find the kidnapped human women, including Naomi. Naomi is in bad shape physically and mentally when Danek rescues her and he becomes her safe place. Danek and Naomi go undercover as newlyweds on a mining colony to learn if there is a new prison being built there. Danek and Naomi are portrayed as real, relatable beings who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best. From their first meeting, there is a connection between Danek and Naomi but there are many things that stand in the way of them being mated. They’ll have to find their way to accepting being fated mates and deal with their own insecurities while also trying to keep up the pretense of being fake married and complete their mission. This book includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. This story has a little bit of everything you’d expect - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous action, strong bonds, evil masterminds, henchmen, uber protective men, plot twists, tragic back stories, political machinations, and even a few chuckles. There is an overarching plot line that runs through this series so in order to get the best experience, the series should be enjoyed in order. I am excited to read the next book in the series.
Draekon Warlord is the fourth book in the Rebel Force series, connection to the Dragons in Exile world. Naomi has lived through hell, and just as she’s trying to be more brave, an opportunity to pose as Danek’s bond mate arises as he seeks information. But this mission isn’t as easy as anyone thought. When Danek is thrust into a world of danger, will Naomi step up to be the mate he needs, or are they both just too broken?
Wow. This book took me on twists I didn’t expect, on adventures, and on a path to love that was perfectly Naomi and Danek. The connection between them is so strong, but both characters have brokenness from their pasts that they need to overcome in order to face their future together. Naomi has hang ups about her age, about her experience at the hands of the scientists (who wouldn’t!), but I love that every day she tries to live a little more than the previous day and the way she built her courage was so admirable! Danek was supposed to once be a Warlord for the Draekons, and now he just wants a simple existence. I loved his role in this book, loved that he was willing to take necessary risks, but always made sure Naomi was supported and safe. They were perfect for one another. They built each other up, they were rocks when the other needed them, and I loved that they were able to have fun in the middle of a stressful situation. This book had it all - drama, danger, dragon shifting aliens, and a steamy connection between two broken characters that fit perfectly together. I have been devouring this series and this book was a great addition!
Draekon Warlord: Rebel Force Book 4 By Lili Zander and Lee Savino Kindle unlimited purchase Naomi has been at the Rebellion going on 60 days. She knows she needs to get her head on straight but it's easier said than done. Now they want her to go on a mission with Fifth. Danek. Whatever he wants to call himself. Danek saved Naomi from a fate worse than death. If he could take the pain away he would. But he knows she is strong. But he doesn't think she is capable of going on this mission. It was hard reading about Naomi's PTSD. But when she overcomes it and learns that even with PTSD she is strong. She will always be affected by what happened to her, and the other human females in this series too. Each one has their demons to deal with, but with their own Dragons at their side, they know they can overcome anything. I love Lili Zander and Lee Savino how they can pull in a reader. How they don't go in for the darkness of their books. Like Naomi, we find her strapped down on a table. That is all we know about her history at the hands of the scientist. So that is why I give this book 1 - 1 1/2 trigger rating with 10 being the worst. Draekon Warrior Draekon Conquer Draekon Pirate Draekon Warlord
Naomi has finally “healed” from all the trauma she went through. She now has to find the strength to move forward. Danek wants to end First but they first have a mission that needs to be completed, find out if there is a prison on a domed colony. The mission seems simple; do some investigating and report back. But he can’t stay longer then 3 months on Noturn or is could cause mental damage. And he will need a cover. Naomi is willing to go and show that she is not a fragile human but things don’t turn out the way they thought.
I love that Naomi isn’t really young. She is 40 and even thought she thinks she is a bit old she still is tough. Yeah she has to cover come her fear of the scientists as well as self doubt. Danek has a heart of gold even though he tries to be tough. He still thinks Naomi needs tenderness but he learns that she is getting tougher as they go. These two are so lost in their own heads. Naomi with her doubts and Danek with his wanting to make something right. He blames himself as does she at times. This is a sweet romance that builds. We also have a virus that is deadly. I look forward to finding Sixth mate.
Inside the Draekon rebellion, the first draekons are still looking for First, each having rescued some humans from captivity. Naomi was being tortured by the scientists when Danek rescued her, and two months later, she is finally beginning to come to terms with what happened to her. Danek knows Naomi is special, and he knows first hand how PTSD can impact you, so he is not particularly happy when Naomi is paired with him to go on a special undercover assignment, fearing it will impair her recovery. Naomi however, has other ideas; after all, there is no danger right?
This book, fourth in this Draekon sub-series, while the romance is only in this book, it is part of a longer overarching storyline, meaning you should definitely read the first three books in the series first. Hero and heroine are both wounded, Danek by what he thinks he caused, and Naomi by what happened to her. This book is all about healing, and moving on. It’s an enjoyable story, with a few funny moments I rather enjoyed, though I will say it was perhaps the epilogue that I found funniest! Recommended for fans of sci-fi alien romance.
Yet again, the Draekon world is bacm, and expanding. And still each one is fresh and has something to offer. That's not an easy feat so hats off to these authors making it work.
Naomi and Danek (Fifth)
I love that Naomi. I love that we get to see her struggles, and her insecurities, but mostly I love that she reacts the way most IRL women do. "Put on your big girl panties and deal." Oh, if only we all the luxury of falling apart and never moving on, just staying as we were. But the universe doesn't work like that and Naomi knows it, from Earth and now with the Zorahn.
Danek (Fifth) is a man on a mission, literally. He does not quit, even when it could cost him his life. But none of that progress is important without Naomi. As much as I love him, I kind of spent my time yelling "oh my gosh just _say something_ already! But the HEA is there, so that made me happy.
All-in-all - great series continues to get even better.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Even though this is book 4 in the Rebel Force series, don't worry if you haven't read the others because they are all completely standalone. Yes, there is an ongoing story arc but it honestly plays so little in this story that it's hardly worth worrying about. The real story is between Danek and Naomi. I loved both of these characters. Naomi, who fears that she's broken after surviving torture, and Danek, who knows that Naomi is his mate and will do anything to help her heal. The interaction between the two of them was spot on, and with the addition of the floofs, there was enough lightness to balance the dark. The title is slightly misleading. Rather that being descriptive of the story, it refers to how Danek sees and thinks of himself. I loved that both characters suffer from the all too common fault of not really seeing themselves how they are, but only seeing their faults and imagining that it's how everyone else sees them, too. Glad there will be more in this series.
I am so hooked on the series. It will be sad when it is over. This is the fourth book about the Crimson force. I guess that’s the easiest way to say what the original Draekons are. Now here we are and the Fifth has chosen the name Danek for himself. And for someone who decided not to care about anything, he is now on a dangerous mission that could cost him his life. Naomi, is an earth woman who is aware of being 40 and having nothing else in her life, so she decides to volunteer for an adventure in space. Little did she know she would be a science experiment of some very bad aliens until Danik rescued her. Now they’re playing mates to accomplish a very dangerous mission for the rebels. Or is it playing, or is it some thing more? Such dangerous times to find love, and yet love is what could save you. This series is fantastic, the writing is wonderful, and the characters are so in-depth you really get to know them. Of course the happily ever after is what I wait for.
This is an instant connection fated mates romance with both a hero and a heroine that are working on overcoming past traumas. The heroine is a 40 year old widow and bank manager that spent months being tortured by alien Zorahn scientists. This book starts at day 60 of her recovery. The hero is a 1000 year old dragon shifter who, less obviously, still carries the guilt & trauma of his past. When an assignment has them pretending to be newlyweds they have to figure out how much of the fake dating is real. Note that in addition to her PTSD the heroine also has large insecurities about turning 40 to deal with and incredibly cute fluffy 3-tailed kittens.
*****Spoiler Alert***** This Book Includes Violence. References to previous torture, blood-less space gun killing of torturers, fantasy violence (fighting robots), brief struggle, potential suicide, near-death experiences. Sex. Making out in public spaces, some bondage using lingerie.
The writing duo of Lili Zander & Lee Savino strike gold again! I love the Draekons, especially the Crimson Force. Danek and Naomi are great couple. He is loyal, compassionate, fierce, and willing to do anything to protect the ones he loves and considers family. Naomi has gone through he**, she was kidnap, brutally experimented on, rescued, and is pulling herself out of that misery with Danek's help. They are going to work together, acting as a married couple on a mission. Danek feels it's too much, too soon for Naomi and she needs tis to prove she is whole. I loved their relationship from the strut, it was a slow burn that grows over time. The story has great pace, twists and turns, suspense, and steam, lots of steam. My favorite couple yet. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
Lili and Lee’s Draekon series continues with Naomi and Fifth in their fight to save Draekons all over the Empire.... Naomi has been suffering from PSTD after her ordeal at the hands of the scientists after she was saved and brought back to the rebellion... Danek has be attracted to Naomi since he found her but when they are assigned together as new bond mates to find a Draekon prison on another planet they find it hard to fight their attraction to each other... I enjoyed reading all the hang ups that Naomi had as a 40 year old woman that I could easily relate to as well as some light hearted moments with a trio of floofs that made this book hard to put down...

This is another amazing entry in this wonderful series. I love that you get plenty of action, adventure and danger but also equal measures of intense emotions, swoon worthiness and relatability. Toss in a sprinkling of humor and you have yourself a clever and delightful mixture that pulls you in and has you captivated and invested. My heart ached for these two. Naomi's painful and tragic past and her daily struggle to deal with the fallout from it was powerful to witness and heartbreakingly genuine. Danek also managed to firmly tug on my heartstrings with the emotional baggage he carried. These two made a perfect couple. Their romance is moving, meaningful and entertaining. I loved it. I am electing to post a sincere review.
I love this story. The characters so well written, the plot beautifully detailed. A wonderful addition to the series. Five or Danek is a strong and formidable force. But below the surface lies much pain. Naomi is broken from her time with the scientists. Five feels her pain, and relishes in her touch, but won't let himself get near for fear of jeopardising her hard won progress. Naomi wants to move on. She is drawn to Five the sanctuary he gave her and the comfort his presence gives. Can Five get past his fear and Naomi believe in herself enough to let him. It's going to be a bumpy ride and oh what a great one. I loved this book and series highly recommending both. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Danek and Naomi are two people with their own baggage that fall for each other despite the odds. Naomi is flawed but triumphs through adversity and becomes stronger because of it. Danek is torn between his duty and fighting his undeniable draw to Naomi. It is a pleasure to watch these two find their way and to see Naomi grow bold and confident. Lee Savino and Lili Zander have a knack for creating a world you can immerse yourself in and characters that have depth and make you feel something for them. Sometimes you will cheer them on or get mad at them but you will not be unaffected. I love all the Draekon books and cannot wait for the next one!
