Martha also instructs courses teaching the ketogenic approach to cancer treatment for the Nutrition Network and Udemy.

A cancer survivor since 2018, Martha is an avid hiker, cyclist, live theatre backstage crew member, and a wannabe world adventurer. A well researched guide to the benefits of Ketogenic Diets and Intermittent Fasting to augmenting cancer treatment and improving quality of life with a cancer diagnosis

I would highly recommend this book to anyone with a cancer diagnosis seeking to improve their health outcomes and minimize the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. This book gives a thorough and easily understandable presentation of the current evidence on Ketogenic Diets and Intermittent Fasting in cancer and augmenting benefits of cancer therapies. It comes complete with a practical guide to implementing ketogenic diets and intermittent fasting protocols for those going through chemotherapy and/or radiation. The author inspires the reader with her personal story of her journey through an ovarian cancer diagnosis, surgery and chemotherapy and her learnings along the way. She also provides the readers with guidance for lifestyle practices that help support optimal health following cancer treatment and living with cancer as a chronic disease. The author provides a number of practical favourite recipes that serve to support the reader with successful implementation of ketogenic diets and intermittent fasting. Finally, the book closes with a thorough list of references and resources for further reading on Ketogenic Diets, Intermittent Fasting and the benefits of both during cancer treatment and thereafter. Well done and so nice to see fellow Canadian Dietitian stepping forward with courage to share her story with the world.

PLEASE fellow cancer patients- Read This Book and consider implementing the protocols. You will not be sorry!

I was curious about this book because for my own colon cancer I had already been doing keto and intermittent fasting, so was interested in any further tips and tweaks to my own diet. What I found was not only informational and scientific, but highly encouraging emotionally as well. I felt coached by a buddy who had been there, done that, and could walk me through every little twist and turn in the road. It was a fun read- like a visit from a friend with my best interests at heart.

I can also attest to the effectiveness of this way of eating during chemo, for my side effects have been minimal, and my affected areas smaller. Some nodes have resolved. I feel better and more energetic, though I still have my down days, which usually just means more sleeping. The hallmark of the experience is that I bounce back.

A highlight of this book is how practical the advice given is. I found several useful items to add to the repertoire of practices for the chemo rounds, plus the tone in which the entire book is written offers encouragement to tender self-care. It says “Just be easy on yourself, doing what you can. Every little bit helps. You can absolutely do this!”

A phrase I would use to describe this book would be “Helpfully Practical”.

This book gives you tips on how to work through chemo. I wish I had read this book two years ago because I could have helped my mother and my brother. There are so many good tips and recipes to help you. I did not know sugar was a no no and can hurt someone on chemo. If you have someone dealing with cancer this is a good book to buy. I received an arc and the views and opinions are my own.
