This book mentioned that most people are unable to follow the low carb diet longterm. I tried the low carb diet and it is very hard to follow longterm. This diet looks promising as it teaches what a serving is of fat, carbs, and protein\dairy and how many servings of each to have based on what calorie diet you are eating to lose weight. One nice thing is that it teaches you to eat a serving of fruit or nonstarchy vegetable when you are hungry. I've been on this diet a couple of days and I believe it will be far easier to follow this diet than a keto diet. Love that I can eat varieties of different fruit and that I can eat these when I am feeling hungry. I wish I found this book earlier.
The Mayo Clinic Diabetes Diet, 3rd Edition: A Healthy Eating Program to Improve Your Type 2 Diabetes by Donald D. Hensrud is a fantastic overall approach to losing weight for health reasons. While this book is targeted for those with diabetes, the author points out the benefits of this lifestyle for anyone who might be at risk for diabetes, which may be quite a few people. I love how this book is laid out— it starts with an assessment for readiness and then goes on to explore nutrition and the psychological factors that contribute towards success or failure. Recipe ideas are also included. Great overall resource! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
There is some useful information here. But the target reader is not someone like me: my main focus is learning how to manage my blood sugar, day by day, meal by meal. The book is really aimed at people interested in losing weight (and only peripherally concerned with managing diabetes). There is also a strong focus by the authors on women rather than men, and on people with poor eating and exercise habits.
I read this book thinking it would help me with some new health issues. I know I will have trouble strickly following the instructions in this book. Most of the information in here about cutting carbs and sweets and exercising more I was already aware of. I am following the general ideas by adding more fruits and veggies to my diet and cutting back on sweets. Happy to say I have already lost a few pounds and my recent blood test is improved.
Too much diet not enough nutrition. I think there is valuable information within this book, and I’m at the point in my life where if the only way you can deliver your valuable information is through fat body shaming and weight loss cheerleading, then fuck you.
