Ship-Wrecked

Rate this book
Skye McLane is Hollywood’s newest It Girl. Between the film offers flying in and the ever-present awards buzz around her, Skye seems to have everything, until pictures of her heartthrob boyfriend cheating on her are splashed all over the internet. Heartbroken, Skye just wants to focus on her work and lick her wounds in private, but her publicist has another plan.

His name is River Holloway.

River’s a rising star with a penchant for finding trouble wherever he goes. He has a new movie coming out and some career-making deals in the works, but River’s getting the wrong kind of attention after a couple of fights captured by the paparazzi. What he needs is an image rehab, and his publicist thinks Skye is just the girl who can give it to him.

America’s newest sweetheart and a bad boy in need of a little TLC seems like the perfect recipe for some positive press. It’s strictly a showmance with a pre-determined expiration date, until a trip to a tropical paradise leaves them shipwrecked, and their time alone together makes them realize that their feelings might not be for show after all…

Thanks to her cheating ex-boyfriend Skye’s public persona is on a downward spiral which is starting to have a negative effect on her acting career. Her agent has the perfect solution which is a fake relationship with a fellow actor and once she meets River the feelings she has for him feel very real.

River’s off camera reputation, even if it is warranted, is affecting his popularity with directors. A fake relationship is a win-win for both of them and now the only question that remains is if their relationship is nothing more than a fling or the beginning of forever.

Skye and River couldn’t be more perfect for each other and even her adorable dog Gigi agrees.

Short and sweet. I've enjoyed the previous books in this series of novella ish stories This one is a cute play on ship like a couple you ship. It started as a fake showmance that became more. Skye and River started out as fake relationship made by their agents but as they get to know each other feelings developed. When a trip on an island they get pushed together because of said ship wreck. I wish this was longer but it was pleasant enough and a light read.

This is such a cute read! A short, sweet and sexy celebrity romance with a fake-relationship set-up, I really enjoyed this one!

Up and coming actress Skye McLane has recently been spectacularly dumped by her actor boyfriend, whose is happily flaunting his new love for the whole world to see. Worried that all of the attention is making Skye look pathetically jilted, her agent has the idea to hook her up with another actor whose own reputation isn’t looking too good.

“I want to set you up with one of Keith’s clients. He has a tendency to get in bar fights, and you have a tendency to go on sad little ice cream dates with your friends.”

And so, Skye is hooked up with River, a fellow newbie actor, and they agree to a short-term ‘showmance’ to give them some positive publicity before they go their own ways. They are both fully on board with the plan, and they eagerly throw themselves into becoming a part of each other’s lives.

“So, I keep you out of bar fights, and--”
“I fake love you so thoroughly that women want to be you.”

And so, through film premieres, staged dates and not-so-secret photo ops, their PDA-filled love is broadcast to the world, all the while, they are quietly falling for each other. But it’s during a planned romantic getaway where things get really interesting, and when the two of them are stranded on a remote tropical island, everything is about to change.

“Skye McLane,” he says reverently, curling an errant lock of my hair around his finger. His face is all happy and flushed. “I think I could fall in love with you.”

These two are so freaking cute! They laugh and have fun together, they talk openly, and they develop a true friendship that is simmering with attraction from the very beginning. The real flirtation is just gorgeous, and the chemistry between them sizzles, and I was feeling everything right along with them.

It’s a super short read, like it only took me an hour or so to read it, but Cross manages to bring that wonderful sense of anticipation and excitement that I love about romance. The story ends in a great place, providing very satisfying closure, and I really enjoyed this one.

4 stars!

Actress Skye McLane saw the pictures of her actor boyfriend who dumped her for his co-star, and the paparazzi is hunting her down to get some tragic reactions from her to display to the world. Her agent wants to turn their attention elsewhere, so he and another actor’s agent decide to set up a “fake” relationship to show the sweet, resilient Skye now dating the bad-boy actor, River Holloway, who had been seen in a bar fight, not the image his agent had wanted to portray. Skye and River agree to the plan and dive into a short-term “showmance” to redirect public attention until the paparazzi have someone else to pick on.

Their agents set them up to be together for the premiere of Skye’s movie, a party for a cologne that River did some modeling for, and a long weekend trip to a beach house in the Caribbean. Before she had even met him officially, River had rescued her when her dog got loose to greet another dog and Skye got tangled in the leashes. Before she fell, he caught her, saved her coffee and purse, and took her breath away. So it was easy for both of them to embrace a comfortable friendship and begin to fall in love… for real! She keeps telling herself it’s a business arrangement and nothing more – but it doesn’t feel like that.

The day for the island photos is here, but Skye can’t do this anymore. Her attraction to River is too real, and every photo op feels like it is stealing away her private time with him. She runs back to the rowboat that brought them here from the mainland – and found that River’s sister, Casey, and Skye’s friend, Kendall, conspired to have Casey put a hole in the boat and River and Skye are stranded overnight… to figure things out. Where will this introspection take them?

This was one of the best romantic excursions I have ever enjoyed! These two are the best couple who truly love being together. The fake part didn’t last long, actually, since both are so easy to care about! Grab your copy and see if there is a HEA on its way for these fantastic characters!

This was such a short and sweet read. When I saw how short the story was...I wondered just how I’d be able to get into the story and how I’d be able to believe in their love when it would evolve so quickly. Once I started though.. I couldn’t help but fall for the Hallmark-y feeling of it.

River and Skye are the poster children for love at first sight and I loved it. They had a meet cute where neither knew who the other was and when their publicists “introduce” them to each other to propose a showmance in hopes of boosting both of their careers. What neither River nor Skye were anticipating though, was the obvious chemistry they two had for each other. When they are left stranded on an island, all their frustrations about their famous lives come to a head leading into such a feel good ending.

Cassie Cross's Love Is series continues with another short and sweet novella.

Skye and River both need some good publicity. Skye's boyfriend cheated on her and River has se potential deals in jeopardy after paparazzi catches him in some fights. They start out their fake relationship with an end in mind, but everything changes once real feelings get involved.

Though it's a novella length the story doesn't feel like it's lacking. I could definitely see it being expanded, but it's also a nice story as is. I do like that I was able to read it quickly when I wanted something fun and light.

A quick read but so much story and romance within the pages. This is one of those stories that will have you smiling as you turn each page, falling in love with the characters as you get to know them and loving every part of the story. It's well written, captures your attention and pulls you from the beginning and holds you until you read the last words. Highly recommend.

I love this series! It’s entertaining, fun and romantic.
I love the chemistry between River and Skye, first it’s pretended but it grows on them and nothing’s more pretended but very real! They make a very cute couple.
This was a great read!

For a short read this sure packed so much into it. I didn't feel like I was shortchanged. The story is cute and River and Skye are just adorable but sexy. I couldn't stop smiling. I love that because it started out as a fake romance for show, they were actually able to be real with each other so their friendship was them being themselves and that progressing to lovers. It's cute!

This is a short story, novella if you wish, written in the first person point of view, which is always a deal breaker for me. This was an amazing story. If you like to read about stars, and one that is about to become that but is in trouble and needs help, this is the story for you. 5 stars.

"Ship-Wrecked" by Cassie Cross, book #6 of the Love Is... series, reads as a total standalone, though I have previously read and enjoyed most of the earlier books.

I'm generally a fan of Hollywood romances, and this short, sweet story was no exception. Female lead Skye was delightful when she was introduced in her brother's story ("The Layover"), but she was even more likeable as I got to know her better here. The meet-cute between Skye and male lead River was completely adorable and I could easily see it playing out on a movie screen. River and Skye had fantastic chemistry from the very beginning, and while their relationship may have started out as a "showmance," it quickly became apparent that their feelings for each other were completely real.

Overall, I loved "Ship-Wrecked" and highly recommend it for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to the next book in the series!

Showmance for starters…

This book is about Skye and River. They’re both actors but she doesn’t know this about him when they meet for the first time. She’s been publicly cheated on a few months ago, and is on her way to a meeting with her publicist. She stops in for an iced latte with her ‘purse dog’ Gigi when the pooch runs away from her. She chases after her and gets tangled in her leash, but is rescued by a wall of muscle, preventing her from the pain and humiliation of falling on her behind.

The next time they run into each other is in the meeting Skye was on her way to. Her publicist and another talent manager have concocted a ‘mutually beneficial’ plan to have them fake date to improve both of their public images. River and Skye introduce themselves to each other, and with the plan in mind, with another look at him and all his gorgeousness, she KNOWS she’s gonna be in trouble!

It’s instalove without them saying anything specifically to that tune. So there’s a LOT of s*xual tension, lots of sweet little touches, flirting, the melt-your-heart kisses… swoon! And then BANG! The trip to the island, and frolicking in the ocean and on the beach, being shipwrecked (great work Casey and Kendall), and their first night together... WOW! It was sweet and passionate and steamy.

The final line of the story was just perfection! BUT… I was disappointed it ended. I could’ve kept on reading about them for much longer! They were fun, funny, just gorgeous together, and so likeable that I want to be their friend too! I give this book four and a half lasting and desirable stars.

I have gotten hooked on this book series and have found the author's writing style to be fun to read. In this book the love interests were relatable even though they were Hollywood rising stars and I liked that they both seemed to have somewhat normal lives outside of all the star making trappings that could came with their work . As with the whole series this is a quick, easy reads that flow nicely and has good character development with nice banter between characters. Well worth a read.

The premise of this story is interesting. Skye and River learning more about each other and falling in love, while pretending to already be in love, was a fun little journey. The author's writing style pulls you into the story and keeps you wanting more. I enjoyed this quick read very much and will definitely be checking out more from this author.
