I think in his obsession to demonstrate that the family lived in a communist way at the begining Engels is delusional about the origins of the family life establishing that the rule for every ancient community is the same as it was for a few indian, celtic, roman, greek, american and germanic people. He is very wrong when he generalized the modus vivendi of few as the way everybody else was living at a certain point in history
