I liked this one the best out of all in this series as there's nothing sweeter than someone getting a second chance at love.

However, I think there was a touch too much introspection on Gage's part as he repeatedly weighed up whether he could love Beck because of Johnny.

I mean I totally get that you don't ever get over the death of a loved one and the particular circumstances here were heart breaking tragic, but still it was heading slightly into masochistic tendencies the amount of times he mentally beat himself up over every piece of enjoyment.

Beck was awesome though, I completely loved him. Unabashed about his love of make up, lace underwear and heels, he had an irrepressible spirit and just oozed joy.

He did provide the perfect foil for Gage and helped him move back into the world of the truly living and I do like this setting with its close knit bunch of friends.

I had only read the first book of this series, which was good, but this book was even better! It’s a very touching hurt/comfort story, told in 1st person with alternating POV’s. 1st person can often put me off of a story but it was a smooth narrative and kept me engaged with the characters. Gage is still mourning 10 years after losing his young boyfriend and carries a lot of guilt. I often have trouble with that concept, a young man closing himself off for long periods of time, but the context here made it easier for me to accept.

I enjoyed Beck's character being someone who enjoys “feminine” expression as part of who he is. That also appeals to some fetishes of Gage’s and makes for very hot scenes! The sex happened quickly but relationship development was at a measured pace, and that slower evolution supported both men also making positive life changes for themselves. Drama is minimal with only a brief period of emotional self-protection, and the maturity factor is refreshing. I did think Gage’s mental monologues were a little repetitive at times. I also don’t care for dream imagery with the deceased, but that’s just me.

I really want to go back and read the two books I missed in this series. There’s some good writing here, with sensitive themes that aren’t turned into gratuitous melodrama. I would recommend this book gladly!

K.M. Neuhold does such a great job with Hurt / Comfort stories. There's angst but it's not a lot and it's not overwhelming...it just ribbons through to really make the story pop.

I was really interested in reading Gage's story because of the glimpses from Adam's story and wanted to see how Neuhold would put the pieces together because Gage is such a broken guy, and I wasn't disappointed. I loved the fact that Beck found himself and also helped Gage find himself again.

Shattered Pieces has a great dual POV, middling to light level angst, interesting characters, and a sweet HFN/HEA.

This series has been a pleasure to read, and I was happy to find out it's going to continue, next up: Clay's story (and it will have rope bondage!! 😍😍😍)

Um...Ok. After four days of not wanting to write this review I'm just gonna rip the band-aid right off. I just could not get into this one. And it wasn't the story, it was the writing style.

I thought there was way too many cliches and flowery paragraphs that had me rolling my eyes. I also thought the first-person POV was a little clunky and there was a lot of awkward transitions and confused tenses. Honestly, this book felt a little rushed.

One thing I will say is that Beck was a wonderful character and saved this from being a 2 star book. He was a bright and shining light even though he was working through his own grief and he was a good match for Gage.
“Two years?” He gasps. “Oh my god. This is a medical emergency. I’m going to have to perform mouth-to-cock resuscitation stat. Don’t worry, I’m a trained professional.”

He was smart and funny and I can forgive him for possibly sharing stuff that was lawyer-client privilege with Gage because it was off-page. And the manties? Oh, yeah...the manties. So. Damn. Hot.

Unfortunately I think this is where I leave this series. You can't like them all. *shrugs*

Beck and is light is worth reading this romance for. He is funny and charming and his grief is explored in interesting ways.

I can't say I like Gage as much. I think the problem is in the writing and also in needing to develop him beyond this one event. I am not sure I ever buy that the cause of all his behavior is Jonny's death.

So, I like where where this books gets but a bit too much walking over the say road for me.

**** This is a tremendous, important and gripping story !
A warm fuzziness began in me as I read the first part of this amazing book, because I knew I was going to experience something special. Pink haired Gabe, tattoo artist at Heathens Ink, lost partner Johnny nine years ago.
Femme man, Beck, teaches Dance to kids and performs,

he lost his twin sister a year ago.
He's a sassy and fun gay man who likes to wear make-up, lace undies, stockings, and heels, unless he's working at his regular job as a lawyer, then they are hidden.
Beck goes to Gage for a tattoo, and their fun begins. Gage has been numb, but Beck brings out his emotions and his zest for a better life.

I loved these tender guys as each struggles with inner thoughts and deep feelings, plus the hot, wild and kinky sexiness they find together. Oh, la, la !

It's a beautiful trip and a fun ride, to see Gage regain his internal light again.

The ending is meaningful and heartfelt. You'll like Beck and Gage as individuals and as a couple.

Highly recommended. ENJOY !

You know what would be awesome? If this author stopped sabotaging her own books with stupid "jokes" about rape. There was not one, not two, but THREE rape "jokes" in this book - all of them unnecessary and all of them serving to make me dislike the characters the author has tried to hard to bond me with.

If I scrub those moments from my brain, this was a lovely story about healing and finding new hope and new love, and really being comfortable in your own skin.

Finally! I kind of want to chant hallelujah here, so indulge me. Not only do we get Gage's story, but my hallelujah moment was when I realised that this book don't rehash all the previous ones. There's only a very short overlap and one which doesn't make the story to feel repetitive.

So I got that out of my system, this has really bugged me while reading the past couple of books. I mean some overlap is ok, but repeating most of the storyline in book after book, that's not for me.

The title of the book; Shattered Pieces truly describes both Gage and Beck. In their own way they are both shattered. They've both lost the one person closest to them, the one they thought would be there with them for the rest of their lives. Lives lost too soon and without warning. It has left them floundering, lost, trying to find the light, find and feel some happiness in their lives again.
This kind of loss and grief has it's own time table and this book really shows how differently people grieve. How utterly devastating loosing someone can be. But more importantly it also shows that, as how clichéd it might sound, there is light at the end of the tunnel - if you want there to be. You can be happy again, if you allow yourself to be. Moving on doesn't mean you have to forget about the past or love any less.

We've all watched Gage hurt for a long time. We've waited for his happily ever after. For him to face his past with Johnny and smile again. To connect with the world. And who better to get him to connect than Beck. A vibrant, flamboyant, lace wearing dancer, with a new mission in his life. To find a new hobby for Gage that he actually enjoys.
Quote…if I can put his broken heart back together, then there might be hope for mine as well.

The two of them together are beautiful. They complete each other. They help each other heal. To move on, to live. But more importantly to love.

Quote… he's the picture on the puzzle box that shows me how my pieces are supposed to fit together.

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
Decent pieced-together DIY cover. Strong title, week author font. I've read the other books in the series, so I did not worry about the synopsis here, I knew it was Gage's story and that was enough.

> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Alternating first-person, clearly defined and easy to follow.

Nearly a decade had passed since Gage's younger boyfriend took his own life. Nearly a decade of guilt had festered, creating a numbness that allowed him to go through the motions; a zombie shell of his former self, disbelieving he was allowed to ever find happiness or love again, that he was deserving. Beck's determined to prove him wrong.
Beck lived a dual life. On one side, he loved and enjoyed dancing and wearing the prettier things. On the other, he was an unhappy "suit", with the prospect of making partner in his father's firm. Both men had lost someone that meant the world to them. Both men are still broken in places that only the other can fix.

The lead characters were well-written and emotionally engaging. Their chemistry is tangible and natural. The secondary cast was enjoyable, as always. Interactions were believable and the dialogue felt appropriate. The plot was dynamic and had an emotional depth that was quite moving. The story flowed smoothly. There were only the most minor of conflicts that needed resolving and were managed in a timely manner. Predictability was very low. The conclusion is solid enough, providing an implied, impending HEA. I imagine this couple's story will continue on in the background of any future books in the series as the previous couples' stories have done thus far.
Overall, I was very pleased with this book and would go as far as saying it was my favorite of the series to-date. I would not recommend this book as a stand-alone, but would highly suggest the series be read in order to maximize the experience of the cast.

It’s been almost 10 years, but Gage still hasn’t gotten past the loss of his boyfriend and love of his life, Johnny. When Beck meets Gage, he finds in him kindred spirit, someone who understands loss. It’s been a year since Beck lost his sister, but it still hurts each and every day. Can these two men help put the shattered pieces of their hearts back together and maybe find love along the way?

Stories like this scare me. When a loved one dies you tend to forget all the bad things about them and only remember the good things and the happy times. It’s impossible for a potential new partner to compete with a ghost and that’s what scared me about this story and stories like it.

I was right to be a bit scared, not so much for the fact that Gage felt Beck couldn’t measure up, but because Gage couldn’t let go. He feels extremely guilty for the feelings he’s developing for Beck. Scared that his heart isn’t big enough to love both men or that maybe he’ll forget Johnny if he lets himself fall in love with Beck.

I liked both Beck and Gage and I loved that Beck was so persistent. He was persistent without being too pushy and he knew when to pull back and give Gage the space he needed. I loved the slow progression of their relationship. It was a well-developed and fleshed out and I really felt like I knew these characters.

Gage and Beck fit well together and I loved that Beck really knew who he was and was proud of it. He was comfortable in his own skin and I loved that Gage not only embraced Beck’s love for pretty, lacy things, but I loved how hot he was for it and how much it turned him on. Beck and Gage had out of this world chemistry and they sizzled in bed. Omg, was the sex smoking hot!! I think there was steam coming from my iPad at one point!

I haven’t read the other stories in the series and while I think they story was okay as a standalone, the main characters from the previous books are featured heavily throughout the story and at times I had a hard time keeping track of who was who.

Still, this was an enjoyable, at times heartbreaking, but mostly sweet and sexy read! I’m not really a ménage reader, but I’ll definitely be checking out the other two MM books in this series, and I’m looking forward to Clay’s story. This is only my second book by this author, but I’ve really enjoyed both and will definitely be waiting for future releases as well as checking out more of the past works. Very recommendable!

This book checked off every ‘Here’s how to write a perfect story’ box.
It was smokin hot: His tongue drags against mine in a slow dance with no particular destination on the horizon
Funny as heck: “why do you have a canvas bag with a sparkly dick on it?”
“I went through a bedazzling phase,” I explain with a shrug
“I’m sorry but that’s a major deal breaker for me. I don’t think we can be friends anymore, let alone fool around. “
“Shut your mouth or I’m going to dig out my bedazzler and bedazzle everything you own.”

That is not only the adorable Beck in a nutshell but also the sweet, fun dynamics between both men.
And incredibly romantic and sweet: ”Of course, you failed at fitting in; you were born to stand out, and there’s absolutely no shame in that”
A beautiful, heartwarming, poignant, amazing love story. I highly recommend. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy.

good book

***Spoilers here and there***

I enjoyed this book! The only thing I hated was. Well not hate; but I just didn’t like how Gage kept looking at Beck as he was Johnny.

But I understand also because that was his love of his life. But did help him to move on and I love that Johnny came to him to tell him he could move on and love again. Because it made me sad because he wanted to be love but it was hard for him to move on from him. Because he made a promise to Johnny.

But then; he ended up falling in love eventually. I love that for him. Because it sucked to see him sad and lonely. Beck came in at the right moment…

This was not an easy, happy read, but it was a deeply satisfying one. If you've read the other books in this series, you know Gage's background, and you know he's still grieving deeply over his first love who died. That sadness doesn't disappear magically when he meets Beck, and it takes time for Beck's infectious happiness and 'life' to make gage realize it's okay to move on. I found this book moving without resorting to easy answers and fixes, or without becoming too sad. And Beck was a wonderful character, all full of life and zest and so special with his more feminine style. Yup, I hearted this book very much, and i simply love this series.

Finally, Gage’s story. I haven’t read the prequel and I don’t think I will. Starts where Gage finds out about Adam and Nox. I liked how Gage and Beck slowly get into a relationship, rather than rush. It felt a lot more emotional than the other books and Gage was just adorable, it’s nice to see how happy he could be. I really liked Beck. He was perfect for Gage. The other couple I’m curious about is Cas and Beau, they keep appearing but nothing from them just yet. Keeping with the reading order so no Vegas fun just yet. It was a good story but think I prefer Adam and Nox.

Still thinking about the rating but for now I’ll say it’s a 3.5 star rating :-)!! I enjoyed this but there were a few elements missing that kept me from liking it enough to rate it higher. I am intrigued to know what’s next in the series though :-)!

I would love to give this a 5 star, I would have just loved to see more of it not being possibly unhealthy attached and more being good with who he is by himself. I wouldn't say it was toxic, they both were finally healing, one just needed another person to get there and might be relying too much on that.

Sweet book about a Second Chance at Love.
Gage lost his first love when he was 20, and 10yrs later, He's still not sure he could even try to find love again until Beck walks into his life. Beck loves Makeup, Lace and Heels. He meets Gage and instantly wants to bring him back to life, the life he should have. They are pretty perfect for each other but it takes a lot to get them where they need to be emotionally for the relationship to work.
Audio - Kenneth does a good job, I really enjoyed his voices for Gage and Beck and I look forward to listening to the next in this series. I'm really glad the author has stuck with Kenneth as the narrator for these last few books..

This is a new-to-me author and the first book in this series that I’ve read. It can be read as a standalone although now I’m intrigued by the other couples and need to back track. I really enjoyed this story and these characters. Gage and Beck couldn’t be more perfect for each other. I like how the author paced their friendship/relationship. I think it was exactly what Gage needed.

Although I did enjoy the story, I’m not sure how I felt about the whole grieving for ten years. I mean I know everyone copes and deals with death differently but TEN YEARS! Ok, so after I got over the whole ten year thing I was expecting Gage to go through this very emotional breakthrough where I was going to ugly snot cry. Because it’s been ten years! I felt the build-up and there were emotions and my heart was breaking for Gage but ………………… no emotional snot crying! WHAT?! I was a little disappointed as I was expecting it to be more on the emotional side considering the circumstance and the amount of time this author had Gage grieving for his young lover whom he only dated for a short amount of time. So, this was really the only down side of the story for me. I wanted the snot cry!!

Oh well, so no snot crying people! But don’t fret as it’s still a very enjoyable read with a bunch of great characters. BECK!!! I sooooo fucking LOVED Beck! An absolute wonderful, fun, sexy, feisty, and amazing character that really just brought this whole story to light. Even dealing with his own grief and the daily misery from his career he was an absolute delight and joy to read. I love that this author made him proud of who he was and wasn’t afraid or ashamed to rock his heels and makeup. LOVE IT!

Overall, this was a touching, sweet and sexy read. I will be going back to the other books in the series and I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.

Gage, sigh...
I feel like I've been waiting for his story forever....but really, I just started this series two days ago.
Gage though, he's kept my heart broken through every book. How do you get passed losing someone you thought you'd have forever with? An losing him to an overdose... it hits hard right now with the drug problem our country seems to have right now.... like, I just couldn't imagine losing someone that way.
Anyway... his happily ever after is bittersweet and I"m so glad he found someone like Beck...

Beck is amazing... sassy, heel and makeup wearing, beautifully patient and understanding person that he is. I thought that he deserved a lot more than what Gage was willing to give him, so I was glad that he was willing to put in a little bit of work for Gage. The way his parents treated him, and the way people judged him because he liked to wear makeup or cute shoes and pretty clothes.... I hate that in this day and age, people are still so simple minded. I wanted him to have everything he wanted, because he deserved it...
The one part I didn't like, (other than Becks father) was with Gage, when he couldn't stop thinking about Beck... he says something like.. "I wish I was like Madden and had a drug habit so I would stop feeling like I was going to come out of my skin" or something like that.... and i'm over here like.... why would even think that, when the love of your life had a dependency problem and overdosed and died??? Tactless....

They got there in the end though. It wasn't an easy road, as I'm sure it wouldn't be.
I loved the person Gage turned into... or always was, but accepted because he's a good person too.
I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with everyone. Especially Liam and hopefully Owen.
Excellent addition to the series...On to the next!
4 stars from me!

Shattered Pieces - Heathens Ink Book K M Neuhold

A stunning piece of writing, touching every sensitive emotion in me.

The Heathens Ink Series continues with this story exploring the new found relationship between Gage and Becket.

Gage lost the love of his life, Johnny, when they were only just young men but he’s older now and has suffered with his guilt and loss for almost ten years with no reprise from his turmoil in sight.

Becket loves to dress up and that doesn’t include his designer suit which he wears as a lawyer and feels like it’s eating him alive. No Beck has a passion for fashion, lace and makeup and he’s tired of hiding the real him. He has loved and had loss in his life, just like Gage but maybe they can heal each other.

When these two meet, there’s an immediate chemistry and in your heart you just know that there’s going to be some touching and sweet moments.

Let’s not leave out the incredible sexcapades and the brilliant friendships between the Heathens Ink buddies and their partners. This story is made for enjoying and has an wonderful feel, inviting you to appreciate every character for their difficult and sometimes heartbreaking journey.

K M Neuhold, you continue to promote love, acceptance and understanding amongst all people and You should be applauded for your work with this series. Another favourite of mine.

REVIEWED FOR LOVE BYTES

4.5 Stars

I have been quietly waiting for Gage to get his own book and for a chance to hear his story and after reading Shattered Pieces I was not left disappointed. This is a real hurt/comfort story but there is a whole lot more hurt initially as you learn just how raw Gage is and how much guilt he places on himself for past events. If anyone has even an inkling of what Gage’s grief feels like it is Beck, who lives with his own sadness, but who is determined to carry on living and even more determined to drag Gage with him. Beck is a whirlwind of energy with his lace, heels and makeup and he knows that somehow he has to help Gage start living again.

Shattered Pieces is told in 1st person POV which is not always my favourite but it worked really well here and made you feel like you were part of the story. It also switches POV often and again this really added to the story – both these men were hurting and you needed to see how their grief was affecting themselves and each other. As friends they worked well but as lovers they were almost perfect together and the author wrote some very hot scenes into this one.

I really like this series and all the world building the author has done around this group of men. There isn’t drama for the sake of drama and the beginning and end of each story is well thought out and realistic. Gage and Beck have a long way to go when their story begins but by the end they have everything to play for as they put their nightmares to sleep for good.

Hugs&kisses
