There were three men in my mind. One in the past, two in the present. How was a girl supposed to think like that?
Lainie never expected to be admitted to the prestigious Time Travel Academy.
She never expected to study runes, ancient languages and meet real life Vikings.
And she certainly didn't expect to fall for her teacher... and a Viking... and a mysterious archivist.
When a forbidden jump in time goes wrong, Lainie will have draw on everything she's learned to make her way back into the present - and into the arms of her men.
A full-length steamy reverse harem full of action, intrigue and hot Vikings, set in both past and present. Includes resources to learn basic runes and Old Norse!
Previously published as a serial. This book combines all five episodes and includes a bonus scene.
Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose.
She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, cat shifters, or the streets of Edinburgh.
When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her tiny black cat (who's secretly a demon).
Synopsis sounded soooo good BUT the delivery was less than mediocre. Needed more background and more development of the relationship between the characters. They went from nothing to "I want to spend the rest of my life with you" in two seconds.....
3 - It was OK Stars This book was just too much for me. I’m not sure how something this short could have been or would have worked being broken up into multiple parts. The first 50% is all setting, storyline details and minor character introductions. Everything is so rushed that it isn’t until half way we even find out who the guys will be. Then out of nowhere so much happens from her time traveling, meeting a lost love, saving someone from prison, working out a mafia style deal with a billionaire and coming within an inch of being expelled, all in the first week of school. I think this story would work much better were it longer. I have so many questions I still want answered such as the mysterious dream the heroine and one of her men share revolving around Viking culture. I felt sort of invested in the story after all the story building and then felt betrayed when everything was rushed to an end. This is a story that would be better with at least fifty or more pages. I need more of her guys, there was heat but no relationship and it’s hard to believe in a romance especially between three people when they’ve known each other days. I also wish we got more history on Vikings, especially when she time traveled.
Norsemen Academy: Viking Time Travel Romance contains all 5 books in the Her Vikings serials, plus there’s a bonus scene. I absolutely adored that this was originally written as a serial, but having it combined into one book is even better.
The story follows Lainie and her acceptance to the Time Travel Academy aka T. T. A, however ever step of her arrival to the academy is filled with adventure. The addition of each of her harem love interests and other key characters, are introduced so perfectly throughout the story.
The element of Vikings, Norse, runes and time travel, all wrapped up in an academy and Viking world setting, make for an enjoyable read. I also love the additional information that Skye MacKinnon shares, as this gives you a little extra education about Vikings.
I highly recommend the Norsemen Academy, and I hope there’s more to come from the Time Travel Academy world, as there’s definitely a lot a world of possibilities, times and experiences.
A bit too much of a fast burn for my taste but an entertaining story. I would love to read more of the universe and have a story more focused on the time travel. I really liked the concept!
We have a story of time travel. I liked the story line but felt so much was left out. It felt like it moved at too fast a pace. Lanie wants to time travel and help her mom. When she gets accepted into the Academy, she is not sure what's going on. When falls for the lone teacher and him her. Then she goes on to fall for two more guys, but will it work for them? Can she survive? Will she be able to become a time traveler, or will things get in the way?

Simple and a good book, quick easy read. I really did like it, just felt like it was lacking... definitely worth it, but not if you want something deep and more Vikingish
This is book one of the Academy of Time series and the main character is a young woman called Lainie, who is offered a prestigious place to the Time Travel Academy (TTA). She applied much later than most, as she had spent the last few years looking after her mother who was ill with cancer and getting a place means her mother will no longer have to worry about medical bills and carers costs, as they will be covered by the academy. Twenty eight new first year students arrive the same day as she does and out of those only her and two other females, Kaycee and Maryam, are placed in a fast-track class, basically for not puking their guts up when they were portalled in. It apparently means they will be able to handle jumps further back in time, much more easily. They will start their lessons the very next morning and it seems like it is going to be intense. She is put in a shared room with one of the other girls, to make her get used to uncomfortable situations, when she said she wanted a single room! What she didn’t expect, was to be falling for the looks of her Viking, yes in real life from the past Viking, teacher, in a class with just the other two advanced students. Learning all about Viking customs and having to learn the spoken language of Old Norse as well as over two hundred and fifty runes for vocabulary purposes. It seems her feelings for her teacher Hjalmar are also reciprocated, by the looks he keeps giving her. She is in the Hummingbird year of studies and has three more years to go, so really shouldn’t be messing about thinking that way. Unable to sleep one night, she jogs about the ground floor for some exercise, but runs into someone known as the Archivist, no actually name other than that, as it is given up for the role, which is for life! He is also attractive, but in a different way from her Viking teacher. He takes her back to the Archive, which is hidden under the other floors of the underground school and shows her a bit fo what he does and asks for her help to find an artifact that has gone missing. A panic attack in class leads her back in Hjalmar’s office and bundled up in his arms, which is quite a comforting place to be! To distract her, he offers to take her on a time jump to his Viking village, where his mother still lives. Hjalmar was in trouble a year or so ago, after he undertook a time jump with another student, who died apparently, with Hjalmar bringing back just a severed arm as proof of the young student’s death. He was placed on probation and offered a place as a teacher in the academy, which is how he ended up teaching Lainie and the others. Thy wait until the lunch break and then time travel back, ending up in his family’s barn. Things start to get hot and steamy between them, with their proximity during the jump allowing them to experience each other’s thoughts and emptions somehow. Just as they get into a clinch together, his time travel bracelets glitch and he disappears, leaving her all alone. She is still dressed in her white uniform from the academy and hopes the nearest house is someone that knows Hjalmar. It turns out it is his younger brother Asger’s house and he has another person in his home, who turns out to be a complete shock, but is also useful in acting as an interpreter for her. It seems her few lessons in Viking language and runes hasn’t really helped her to understand much of the spoken word. Asger has dreamed of a woman he should be with coming to him in his dreams and tells her through their interpreter Lucas, that she is in fact the woman he has been dreaming of and waiting for all this time! Lainie tries to throw him off that track, still not even knowing what has happened to Hjalmar and where she stands with any sort of relationship with him. But Asger has an answer for that and it is an ancient Viking custom where a man can have more than one wife, unfortunately it doesn’t quite work the same the other way round, but could if they don’t marry! A bit too much and too forward at this moment in her life. She is worried about how on earth she will get back to her own time, and finds an ally in Asger’s mother who brings her own surprise to the story! Lucas has his own issues that have led him to be where he is and not being able to return to where he comes from. When Lainie finally manages to get back to her own time and the academy, it is not back to the exact time as when she left and she has been listed as missing and Hjalmar imprisoned on suspicion of murder, kidnapping and more. They will need the right connections to get him out of prison and to ensure no one can go after him again, which the Headmistress of the academy and the Archivist have an idea about. When they do, she finds herself in the company of three attractive men who all want her and rather than picking one, it looks like she will be able to have all three, if they are willing to share! Hjalmar has a new job role, but still teaches her a few days a month, whilst Asger returns to is Viking village and the Archivist remains in the academy’s Archive. She gets the best of both worlds, past and present and three men to enjoy it with, while taking advantage of time travelling well before her studies would normally allow it. A fun read with some in-depth Old Norse language and runes use and a nice summary at the end of some more if they strike your fancy. This book was previously told in serial format as the Norsemen Academy series, but is much better being able to be read all in one go. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This wasn't a bad book. Although, I somehow missed that this was a reverse harem book. I love mythology and time travel so that was nice. Lainie is now attending the academy to learn about time traveling. Of course this is where she meets the first man. Then as things progress the other two come into play. Normally I'm not into this but everyone was okay with it and happy so I was happy.
Vikings ✔️ Academy ✔️ Time travel ✔️ Smexy times ✔️
This book has it all from the very first page I was riveted and couldn’t put it down. It sucked me in and wouldn’t let me out till it was finished. I kinda wish there was more what happens next but alas it’s a standalone. But seriously this book is amazing and you should read it...
Protagonisten: Ich lese generell sehr viel. Durchaus unterschiedliche Genres.
Lainie has four years of training ahead of her in the time travel academy that will make her life easier. She never expected to meet three men who would take over her world so easily. One is her Viking teacher who instantly sears himself into her mind and heart. The second is a mystery man who manages the archives. The third is brother to the forementioned viking and lives in the past with very little English spoken by him. Breaking rules seems fine until there is a terrible consequence and Lainie must try to find her way back to her own present.
I loved this reverse Harem story and the fact she didn't choose between them because I absolutely adored both vikings. It took longer to warm up to the character of the archivist but I got there. This was refreshing, exciting, mysterious, dramatic and hot in places. I loved that we got a glimpse at norse mythology, legend, runes and a general glimpse at Viking belief. This really made my jaw hit the floor with its futuristic plot which I usually don't enjoy but I knew Skye Mackinnon couldn't disappoint. This author always has a vibrancy, a style all of her own and immeasurable talent. Another successful starter book that has blown my mind with its creativity, its skill and its feeling.

While the writing had promise you jump into the story with acronyms and jargon that people aren’t going to want to look up as it stops you from enjoying the book this is highly problematic for ebooks because it takes more effort to look it up than a print book.
The premise was intriguing but I found I lost interest when it became evident that a late teen is in a poly relationship without having any other past relationships and with men who are in positions of power over her.
I couldn’t suspend my disbelief to continue the story.
Might pick it up again another time, thus this review may change and you should read it yourself the writing is quite good.

I wanted to love this book, it had so much potential, time travel, Vikings a love triangle or should I say square, lol. But sadly it was just ok. The story line moved way too fast, a lot happened in like a week, 3 lover interest (No need for 3 love interests, I felt the Archivist was only a love interest because the author need a safe place for the the characters to jump back to). Getting lost in time solving how to save love interest number 1 from the corrupt new time travel authority's. Then they are all fine taking her veganity together while she is blindfolded really. The book needed to be longer to had more character development.

A special school to teach students about time travel sounds fabulous! I love the idea of time being the next “ frontier” to be explored and managed. Lainie has come to the Academy for personal reasons while guarding a secret. Of course she should cross paths with several different individuals of interest! I really enjoyed all aspects of the story from embarking on a new experience, adventure, unexpected events, suspense when things go wrong and of course eventual resolution of issues. This was a satisfying read were all the pieces and and a complex relationship makes sense in the end.

Lainie is unprepared for what awaits her at the Time Travel Academy, nor that she would feel the attraction to three different men. Will she have to chose one of them? Or can they share? I certainly couldn't put this exciting read down, it had steam, suspense and time travel, and I loved Lainie and her men (and how she met them). I loved the idea of people going to an Academy to learn how to Time Travel, I would definitely love to sign up for that. I look forward to the next Time Travel adventure (although it will probably be with different people, I am sure I will enjoy getting to know them too.

I really enjoyed this though would have loved it to be longer, with more info about the TTA and some background about how time travel was discovered. I found the way the 3 men casually accepted each other, esp the Archivist, a tad unlikely. For a young virgin to just decide she fancies the Archivist is fine but to decide it means she must have a relationship with him when she is already half in love with her tutor.... Despite this it was still a fun read I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a wonderfully well-written story of love, honor and duty. It is book 1 of 3 in the Academy of Time Series with good characters. These characters are very well crafted and you feel you know them and feel their feelings, frustrations, and victories. This is a must read. It is a full-length steamy reverse harem full of action, intrigue and hot Vikings, set in both past and present. Includes resources to learn basic runes and Old Norse

Why choose with Vikings and a mysterious teacher and a possible murder? What’s not to love?! Lainie is a strong main character who knows what she wants and is willing to fight for it. Her men are strong, supportive and caring - and of course sexy. I would like to have learned more about the Academy and the Vikings’ village, though. I originally read this in serial form and it was nice to read it all together, it flowed nicely. I received an advance copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.
A nice story. This story follows Lainie who is chosen to be a student at The Time Travel Academy. There she meets her viking professor and they instantly have a connection. When her professor takes her on a forbidden trip to the past, she becomes stranded in a viking village. There she meets her professors brother who falls for her. Then there is the Archivist at the academy who also likes Lainie. Loved reading their story. Thanx.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Lainie has only been at the Academy for a very short time before everything gets really complicated. She never could have imagined that getting accepted would lead her to having men to call her own. They each have a connection with her. They want to protect, care for and keep her. This was a good time travel story with some steam between the characters.

I do enjoy time travel genres on occasion, although its not generally what I read. But this was a disappointment. I was frustrated that the characters were not particularly interesting or developed. They were pretty one dimensional. The story didn't offer an insight into the gradual development into these characters. There were a lot of holes that may be answered in the upcoming books in the series, but I have no interest in reading further. No Thanks

This is the complete set of the Norseman Academy books. These were all released as separate one hour reads. The story in its entirety is great to read. Between the separate books the story flows perfectly and when you read it as one block you are hard pushed to see where the end of each book would have been. Amazing story, amazing characters just what you would expect from a MacKinnon story. Highly recommended
Ready for something off the beaten path, try a little time travel mixed with mystery and twist and turns, then get ready for a journey that will keep you glued to your seat. When Lainie is accepted into the Time Travel Academy heat, passion and adventure begins.
This is a great story that you will enjoy cover to cover.

I love this concept, Lainie is a student but also I little older having stayed with her mom through an illness. The instant connection she feels for all of the men and them for her is subtle but you know it’s leading. Told from Lainie’s POV there is some wondering how the guys feel, luckily they are very vocal and we get all of her thoughts. Loved the twist, there is just enough action, and a great HEA.
This is a NON-SPOILER REVIEW of Taking Her Vikings by Skye MacKinnon, the first book in the Academy of Time series. I enjoyed the read, it is an interesting storyline. A time travel academy, Vikings, forbidden time travel, adventure, intrigue and some humor make this read a fun afternoon. I liked that Lanie is a bit older than the other students and that there is a good back story for her.
This honest and voluntary review was made possible by reading a copy through Booksprout.
The first book in the Academy of Time series a well written story that held my interest until the end. Lainie meets Asger, the Archivist and Hjalmar each of them bringing their unique personality's into her life. I want to read more in this series. I was intrigued by the presentation of this book - a merger of time travel and Vikings, with a little RH thrown in for good measure. I was a bit disappointed for the intimate scene; although sweet, it was a little blurred. A little slow in the beginning as well, but when the action ramps up, it gets very exciting. A quality read.
I loved reading this. You learn a little about the Viking Language of the past as well as get some RH romance. Great story that will peak your interest and keep you to tje end. Loved the idea of time travel and especially traveling to the time of the Vikings. Always been intrigued by them.
