In college she was an American in Spain, spending a year studying abroad in Madrid. Thirty-five years later—after sending the last of her children off to college—55-year-old Meg S. Maloney decided it was time to fulfill a long-held complete the legendary Camino de Santiago. In May of 2019, Meg left her home in Northern California to set off alone on the challenging, inspiring 550-mile walk across Spain, not knowing what she'd find or who'd she become. This is her story.
Books can be incredibly powerful. They have the ability to draw us in, take us on adventures, and influence the way we think and feel. They can teach us, move us, give us new perspectives, help shape us, and have a profound impact on us. Meg accomplishes all of that and more in her beautifully written account of her extremely challenging, fulfilling, and life changing solo journey of the legendary Camino de Santiago, a 550 mile walk across Spain. Her remarkable story about the power of connections and relationships, grit and resilience, and personal growth and discovery will draw you in from the very beginning and keep you captivated throughout the book. I highly recommend Slow Your Roll!
Meg Maloney’s book “Slow Your Roll” grabbed me from the first pages. I felt like I was walking the Camino de Santiago with her and experiencing the people and places that she encountered. I appreciate that she shared her exhilarating moments and also her struggles. I feel like she trusted me as the reader to care about her feelings and the feelings and experiences of the people she met along the way. I highly recommend this book for a book club as it is a great launching point for talking about our own dreams and seasons of life.
I LOVED this book!! Both compelling and thought-provoking, the writing is what draws you in, but the stories and the genuine self-reflection they introduce are what keep you enraptured. It was a sincere and thoughtful retelling of what I’m sure was a life-altering journey. Would recommend in a heartbeat!
