Isabel Carrie Reynolds is the oldest daughter of Grover Town's richest landowner. Her father wants to see her settle down, but all she wants is to go east to school. Set to take matters into her own hands, she sneaks off to the train depot, where she meets a mysterious stranger. When her father catches her attempting to run away, he orders her not to leave the house and warns he will find her a husband. True to his word, he invites a tall, handsome, imposing man to dinner, who turns out to be the stranger from the train.
Two weeks later, the deal is done, and her hand is taken in exchange for a chunk of her father's land. Always one to follow her own rules, she doesn't let the fact that she's become an instant wife and mother stop her. Her husband's warning of discipline doesn't curtail her, but soon she discovers he means business.
Cary Brown is a man who has lived his life divided, like his race, half white and half native. When he ends up with the responsibility of his brother's two children, he's set on working his own land and building a home for the little ones. But the land he wants comes with a price; take the man's wayward daughter or no deal. However, his new wife refuses to be tied down, and he soon learns the young woman, who is determined to teach, needs some instruction of her own. When a situation happens in town that places his wife in jeopardy, he will fight against anyone to save the woman who taught him to love and gave him a home.
Publisher's This steamy western romance contains graphic scenes and a theme of power exchange.
I very much loved this western romance. I fell in love myself with Cary Brown (H), half Scottish/half Cherokee huge bear of man nearly 6'4". He's been working across the country with the railroad laying track. But when he is only a year away from accumulating the necessary money to buy his own land to farm, he recieves the heart wrenching news his loved twin brother & his sister-in-law have passed away leaving his very young niece & nephew in his care. Now he determines he needs to find land to lease to provide a home & financial support for his young charges. And this leads him eventually to Grover Town & a wealthy land owner, Mr. Reynolds. Mr. Reynolds has a lot of land to lease, but more importantly he's has a frustratingly headstrong daughter, Carrie, who needs a husband with a firm hand . . . . Carrie (h) is determined to never marry but instead become a teacher & leave Grover Town which she feels has been closing in on her since she was 12. But her younger sister's laser focused determination to marry, coupled with Carrie's father's requirement Carrie marry before her sister & Carrie's failed attempt to run away from home propel her father to offer Cary not his available land to lease but a parcel of his prized land to own if Cary marries Carrie. In 2 weeks. This is a very slow burn romance. The reader is given a lot (a lot) of build up & background for both the H/h before they actually meet & then even more before they marry. Once they do marry, there is a lot of sizzle & steam that both Cary & Carrie thoroughly & enthusiastically enjoy. Frequently. The love they feel for the other is of the quiet but intense variety & while Carrie deeply loves her serious low key husband as well as his niece & nephew, she quickly comes to learn that her life is now shared with, & responsible to, these three. That her dreams will need to be adapted & may need to be replaced with new dreams that just may come to mean as much or more to her than the dreams of her youth. In addition to loving the growth of Cary & Carrie's relationship, I loved how the entire town of Grover Town was not only accepting of people of color, but completely friendly & treated them as one of them. Never any patronizing, only open & equal treatment by the townspeople for people of color. Only one ugly & brief incident came up with a transient cowhand who was not a member of Grover Town. So, all in all, a wonderfully done, beautiful, sweet but sizzling historical western romance I greatly enjoyed.
A wonderful addition to this series of books, totally riveting read Isabel Reynolds is nothing like her younger sister that is in such a rush to marry the town deputy, she has never shown any interest in marriage a husband or children of her own. She has dedicated herself to teaching the children at the school as an assistant to the main teacher and the once a week she teaches whatever adults wish to further their education in reading, writing or arithmetic. When she decides that she going to get to the teaching college and stay with her aunt her father decides to step in and find her a husband, Mr Brown a man that had called on him to rent a plot of land for farming and his family to live on catches his eye and he makes him an offer he cannot refuse a home, an excellent plot of land and his daughters hand in marriage, When Isabel first meets her prospective husband for the first time ever she actually feels an attraction to the pan that is part Scottish and part Indian heritage, he is a giant of a man and is the first man to ever make her fee delicate and feminine and as they embark on there lives together with his deceased brothers young children she is up for the challenge, she already has made very good interactions with both Cary’s father and mother who will be living with them on the farm. This is a real heart-warming story and as with all of Yasmine Hyde’s books the characters and the plot are so well written and the characters were absolutely wonderful, the book is written so well that once you begin reading you will not be able to put the book down until you reach the very last page. I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

. Instructing Isabela is the fifth book in Yasmine Hyde’s Grover Town Discipline series. In it we meet Isabela Carrie Reynolds and Cary Brown. These two lead characters are opposites. Isabel comes from a wealthy family. She is smart, stubborn, and focused. She dreams of becoming a teacher and thus accepts that she will remain a spinster. However, her father, James Reynolds, has different ideas on this subject. Cary is half white and half Cherokee. He walks in both worlds. He left his family and made a decent living working for the railroad. Cary is an old-fashioned man. The death of his brother and the guardianship of his niece and nephew brings him back. To make a home for the children, Cary needs to find land. This need brings him together with Mr. Reynolds. Meeting Cary, Mr. Reynolds realizes he is the perfect solution to his dilemma. He offers Cary Isabel’s hand in marriage and her inheritance? Will Cary accept? Will Cary’s racial background lead him into danger? How will Isabela react? To discover what happens, you must read this book.
I enjoyed this beautifully written western romance. I appreciated Ms. Hyde’s multi-dimensional primary and secondary characters. I like seeing lead characters evolve. I thought Ms. Hyde’s descriptive outdoor scenes were vivid and realistic. I appreciated the manner that Ms. Hyde dealt with the theme of an inter-racial relationship. He realistically demonstrated how prejudice, envy, and hatred. These traits contribute to the rising action resulting in a climatic incident. This was an enjoyable read. Way to go, Ms. Hyde.
This is another book in the Grover Town Discipline series. I have read and reviewed almost all of the others and enjoyed them, but thought that this was the best one of the series. Isabel is a young woman who has grown up as the daughter of a wealthy farmer. He would like her to marry; she wants to become a school teacher and move to the east coast. She meets Cary, who is half Cherokee, by accident; Cary has come to the town to buy or lease land for a farm. Her father decides Cary would be a good husband for Isabel, and gives Cary an excellent farm, with a nice house on it, in exchange for having him marry Isabel. There are a lot of complications as they move on to married life, including the very young niece and nephew of Cary that have become their children because of the death of his twin brother. There is also a lot of loving between Isabel and Cary, and some mild discipline – but the real heart of the story is of two intelligent, and very different people, learning to love each other and make a life together –when that was not their original plan. This is a book worth reading to the very end. Sometimes, I don’t care for the direction a story is going. I must have just enough independence in me to have wanted Isabel to achieve her dreams of being a teacher. Therefore, I was not sure that I was liking the fact that her father forced her into an unwanted marriage. I also didn’t like the fact that none of her family really cared about what she wanted for her life and yet they called her selfish for following her dreams. What I did end up loving about this story is Cary. Cary could see that Isabel was an independent woman with dreams. He wanted her to be able to see at least part of those dreams come to fruition. He was supportive but also demanded discipline in Isabel. He loves her and protects her with his whole being. It was his actions that won me over for this book. I ended up really enjoying the read and the small family history written at the end. I love researching my own family history so that tidbit was great.

This is book five of the series, but I think that it should be number one. Isabel wants something more than to be a wife. Her father disagrees and he finally forces the issue when Isabel tries to leave. Cary Brown is half indian (the term that is used in the story) and has come to Grover Town to find land to farm. His brother has died and he now has to raise his two young children. When he meets with Isabel's father to rent some of his land, Mr. Reynolds decides that Cary would be perfect for his daughter. Cary agrees and Isabel is left to make the best of it. Isabel does find Cary attractive and once married, they start to fall in love. They have their HEA. I really liked this book. I cried when Isabel wasn't allowed to follow her dreams. This is another book that I didn't want to stop reading. I hope the next book finds someone for Caroline.

Isabel's father will not allow her to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher. Instead, he arranges a marriage between her and Cary, a man who came to lease farm property from him. Cary will have his young nephew and niece living with them, and Isabel is concerned about her ready-made family. One thing I love about Grover Town is that it's filled with wonderful people who are kind and caring. In this book, though, we learn that the people are accepting of everyone, even those who are different. Cary and Isabel's marriage of convenience quickly becomes a marriage of love between two very different people who share one heart. And the chapter describing their wedding night is possibly one of the most sensual scenes written, propelling Cary into book boyfriend status. This is my favorite book of the series.

I have read all the books in the series and decided to leave a review for this one because I truly liked how the story developed between the hero and heroine. The hero is a solid, dependable man and truly husband worthy. The innocent, smart heroine is determined to pursue her dreams but is mature enough to discern what she holds close to her heart and how to pursue her dream without compromising family and love. I like the connection between the hero and heroine. I love how their romance was truly the highlight of this story. How they are as individuals and how they met and how they connected. There were scorching scenes between hero and heroine. There was of course that moment when the hero saves the heroine and their happily ever after. I truly wish there was an epilogue.
Isabel wants to be a teacher, her father insists she marry. As a women in the late 1800'summer she has few options, even though times are changing it is not easy, decisions are not made by women but by fathers, husbands, or other male relatives. Isabel can only hope for the best. Cary must find land to farm and set up a home for his brothers children, they have lost so much. He chooses Grover Town because they feel more acepting of people who are non white and as a man who is from 2 worlds he wants the best for his family. Great story that shares the hardships of being different from others, be it gender, race or nationality. Great storyline, characters and feeling.

This newest book in the Grover Town series takes a long time to get going, but when it does it soars like an eagle. The author deeply develops the principal characters (Cary and Isabel) on parallel planes before intersecting them in a most unique and surprising way. However, once they meet and marry they develop a nurturing and loving relationship that both warms the heart and excites the libido. You get a sense that the author really has a vested interest in these characters she has developed, and when you read the postscript you will understand more. This may not be the most titillating book in the series with respect to spankings and sex, but without doubt it is the best so far. 5 Stars I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Story set in times when woman and daughters didn't have much in way of choices. They became wives, mothers, and if some were lucky a bit of independence to follow a dream. Isabel has a dream of being a teacher but her father has different ideas, and his will be followed no matter what. But what Isabel didn't realize is that her new husband's disapline wil grant her freedoms she never thought of before. I really enjoyed the storyline, it was the perfect blend of Hot and romance without being gaudy. I've read several books involving the town and the men that find love, and I have throughly enjoyed the continuing characters.

Her dream is to teach. I liked this story when Isabel and Cary first meet it is at the train station when Isabel is trying to run away. That did not turn out well for her at all. The next thing she knows she is being forced to marry. Cary is a strong man who just wants to be a farmer and to give his family a new future after a horrible loss. He agrees to marry Isabel in a marriage of convenience but instead is highly attracted to Isabel. This is their tale and it was a good one with a bit of mystery and some danger thrown in. There is some old fashion discipline too in this western historical. I am happy to recommend this book hope you check it out. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
This is an interesting, well written and described story. I liked both Cary and Isabel. They are very different but spark well off each other. All the characters are well done and real. There are plenty of different elements in this story to hold the readers interest and some violence. I enjoyed the sweetly descriptive hot sexy scenes. This is a spanking story and Isabel earns hers with her single mindedness. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and I very highly recommend it. An enjoyable, sweet and sexy story.
This book is for Isabel and Cary. Isabel wants to go to school and teach, her father thinks she should marry. She meets Cary at the bus depot, and her father makes a deal with him. If he marries his Isabel he can have some land to farm. Cary has his brothers two children. Isabel has an already made family. Cary is part Cherokee. This is a wonderful story of how he protects and keeps his wife in line. Yes there is spanking but this is a great book. Cary and Isabel were wonderful characters.

Another well written book in the Grover Town Discipline series. With this book, we see Isabel, wanting to chase her dream of teaching, and Cary, half Cherokee, wanting to fulfill his dream of having is own farm. They have one of the best happily ever afters that I have read in a long time. Yasmine Hyde is an amazing author, and I will definitely be seeking out more books by her.
