Compulsive reading and full of surprises! Severed is rife with tense suspense and thrills, as lives and loves hang in the balance with seemingly hopeless odds.
Action and tension are balanced by the continued development of interpersonal relationships between characters creating a depth and emotional charge to the story that held me enthralled.

The beautifully crafted plot is enhanced by scene-setting descriptions of other-worldly spaces. The details of the unique world are mind-boggling but they add to the rich texture that makes this space world and it's series of Houdini-like escape scenes so believable.

So many elements of the plot and twists of the whole series culminate to make each book in the series even better than the last...for me, especially in this story, it was the loving humanity and honour of the characters.

I highly recommend this book but it's best to start at book one (Hammer and Crucible) of the Imperial Hammer series...and like me you'll be eagerly awaiting the next book to see what Danny does next!

I had a difficult time getting into this one at the beginning due to the extreme implausibility a society with highly advanced big data analysis abilities not having any type of bio-metrics in their surveillance equipment but stuck with it and there was an explanation about 2/3rds of the way though. Given Danny's reputation and experience, her actions in this book felt really amateurish and clunky. I expected more of both her and those she is up against. It all seemed too seat of her pants and dependent on luck when taking into account her abilities and the resources available.

The outcome was necessary to move forward plot points in the series and from that point of view it works. Book three ended with a huge incident causing massive fallout. This book was a fast moving, action filled read with some interesting character twists and a couple political twists that were very well done. I've enjoyed the series so far and look forward to the conclusion.

Danny is running for her life after thwarting the array’s plan to take over the Empire. She ends up separated from her crew and the Supreme Lythion, and it will take all of her skills (and a beloved friend) to get free and start to work on how to reunite with the crew and the ship, all while staying out of the array’s notice. There is danger everywhere, since she’s the most wanted person in the Empire, and the most recognizable, but she has learned a lot over the years about stealth and disguise and it will help her now when she needs it most. This story had lots of nail biting danger, audacious missions, and help from a surprising source. I loved the ending and can’t wait to see how it all turns out for Danny and her crew in the final story of the Imperial Hammer series.

This sci-fi thriller just gets better and better. Danny, our heroine, and her crew (and speaking of the crew, there's a new one aboard, well not quite new, let's just say human) are trying to stay hidden and safe, but at the same time trying to find answers and help. This is pretty hard to do when the world is trying to kill you before you can get a chance to prove your innocence. Her "enemy" won't forgive her and will do anything to get revenge. I don't do spoilers, so you'll have to use your imagination, better yet read the book and the ending alone will make you say "OH NO", how is she going to get out of this when there are so many witnesses to the murder she just committed.

An intense read...
The 4th installment continues the Imperial Hammer series with the same action filled excitement. The world building is stellar and the characters continue to make you care what happens to them. Danny and crew once again face seemingly insurmountable odds against the array. Do they win in the end? You have to read to find out! I read an ARC of this book and this is my voluntary review.

Danny and Sauli and Varg star in this story of capture, escape, ingenuity, determination, and integrity. There’s plenty of action and excitement, plot twists, and a surprising ending to take your breath away. Immaculate writing!

Cameron Cooper has just written the fourth book, Severed, in the amazing and well-written science fiction series, Imperial Hammer, and it is amazing. Cameron somehow describes scenes in ways that make me feel like I am actually present. The characters are complex and realistic and I can really relate to them. (My favorite is Varg).
And a plot about humans and AI. For me it started with Hal, but Cameron Cooper is continuing the discussion with this amazing series. This story truly does justice to the legacies of the greats, like Orson Scott Card and Frank Herbert.
I cannot wait for the next book in this series. Thanks Cameron!
