One Night

Rate this book
That one night, changed everything.

Tessa
I’m 21.
One-night stands are supposed to be normal at this age right? Go to a bar, pick a hot guy, have a little fun and then you run.
Or at least that’s what I thought, until my first and only one-night stand ended up being the night I got knocked up by a stranger I had never laid eyes on before.
Sure, he was the perfect guy for the job. He was sexy in the way that attracted every female within 100 yards of him. His voice was smooth, and he knew exactly what to say to get into my panties, clearly.
Eye roll.
I wasn’t on birth control. Now I’ve peed on two sticks and they both say the same thing.
Those two little lines have changed my future forever. You want to know what the worst part is? I have no idea what the name of the father is.

Kyle
I’m a bachelor. I never sleep with the same woman twice, I like variety.
But when she walks into the bar, she takes my attention immediately. When she agrees to leave with me, I've hit the jackpot.

Then I run into her in my sister's office, the last place I expected to see her. I never thought I'd see her again. Except this time, she has something to tell me. Something that will change my world forever.

Our one night together, turned out to be so much more.

4 Stars!

A brand new, steamy, unputdownable romance about an one night stand that takes quite the turn, giving two unsuspecting people [Kyle + Tessa] one happy ending.

One Night by J. Akridge was really, really good y'all... captivating, sweet, swoony, easy, quick, and packed with all of the feels.. and kept me on my toes the entire journey. Kyle and Tessa had undeniable chemistry and their story.. *all the heart eyes*.

This is my very first J. Akridge book and I have to say, she's definitely got a new fan in me. I love me a good fast-paced romance that's on the easier side of things and finding authors that write it just right.

I definitely recommend this book.

Not Worth the Read

How did this book have so many good reviews?!?!? Everything felt so two dimensional and poorly wrote. There was literally no love connection between the two characters and how did they love each other after only barely meeting/reconnecting?

This book had so much potential but fell really flat for me. Kyle was a playboy never sleeping with the same woman more than once. But felt a connection to Tessa but she snuck out after they had sex. She ends up pregnant and doesn’t see him again until she’s 32 weeks pregnant. Of course he’s all in and wants to be involved with his child which was adorable. He really seemed like he cared for her. I’m unsure if he was still sleeping around during the separation he said he always thought about her and tried to take other girls home from his bar but it wasn’t the same. The rest just felt like they weren’t trying to be a couple. He told her he wants to move in and see where it goes and help with the baby then fast forward it’s 3 months later and Tessa doesn’t know where they stand at 96% of the book. They go on a date and she asks he says he’s all in. Then when they get back home he proposed and said he loves her. I felt the connection from him but not her at all.

My first book from this author. One Night is about Tessa, who is a realtor who moved to a new city. She goes to a bar to unwind and has a sizzling one night stand. She never got the guy's name, but their night resulted in a pregnancy. While Tessa has decided to raise the baby on her own, by a stroke of luck Tessa meets the guy, Kyle, and the story captures their relationships as they get to know each other and get ready for the baby.

I really like Tessa as a character. She is resilient, independent, and so mature for someone so young. Kyle is a playboy who wasn't ready to settle down but really stepped up to take care of Tessa and the baby. They also have help from his family, who are tight knit and loving, just what Tessa really needs in her life. I enjoyed this story immensely; if you're looking for a feel good story with a happy ending, this one's for you.

Tessa and Kyle meet in a bar and end up having a one night stand. Only problem is Tessa gets pregnant from their night together. Kyle bumps into Tessa while at his sister's office and finds out their night together will change both of their lives forever. A cute, fun read with some drama but not drawn out. A good read.

I really enjoyed this one. This is my first read by this author and listen by these narrators and I was pleasantly surprised. It took me a little bit to get used to the narrators since they were new to me but I ended up liking both. If you want a low angst listen, I recommend this!

I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read. I read it in one sitting and ended up having some emotional tears too. For a short book, I really got a feel for the characters and loved the way the story came together.

Kyle and Tessa have a one night stand, no names, no strings, that ends up being a defining night that leads to the epic result of a pregnancy. How the plot rounds out is just perfect and I was completely in love with these two and most of the family and friends.

There is some drama and a lot of complications that happen but what a sweet tale of love. It is definitely worth reading.

One Night gives you everything you didn’t know you needed in a story that starts with. One night stand. The characters are great, well developed, and you get a feel for how their minds work, and overall, I just liked the story. If you are looking for a fun, easy story that keeps you engaged until the end, then this is the story for you.

*I received this copy in exchange for an honest opinion*

This book is one of those that, despite being very simple and without many conflicts, manages to hold us from beginning to end. Just for you too see, I read it in less than three hours. The simple and fluid writing that the author brings us is deliciously refreshing. I really like stories like that.
A woman, Tessa, enters a bar and, following her instincts, meets a man, the bartender, Kyle. That man is, we learn later, immediately attracted to her and wastes no time. They spend just one night together and it will be that wonderful night that will change the lives of the two and everyone around them.
Eight months later and with a baby in her belly, Tessa meets Kyle again and it is only fair to tell him the truth. The point is that he had already done the math since he saw her in his sister's office and was more or less prepared for the all situation.
From the moment that Kyle, the well-known womanizer, who never repeats the same woman, knows that will become a father, he becomes the most dedicated man, present in Tessa's life and loving that we can known. However, Tessa's pregnancy does not go as expected and the surprise happens.
I loved seeing how the relationship between Tessa and Kyle progresses and evolves into something so profound and so beautiful. Each of them accepts the other without dramas, without regrets and without those strange situations that people create out of nothing. Between Tessa and Kyle it was always very natural and simple, just as love should be. Simple, no boring issues, no dramas and no brakes.
I really liked it and if this author's books are usually like this, I will follow her very carefully.

One Night
A Surprise Pregnancy Romance
By: J. Akridge
Narrated by: Jeffrey Holz, Mary Jane Malloy

J Akridge has a new fan! This is an easy listen, and a fun story! Tessa is a going to have her first one night stand. That is normal for people her age, right? No names, just pleasure leads her to pregnancy.Trying to find the father has proven difficult, so single parenthood is what she is going to do! That is until she bumps in the one! Kyle is a player, has no indication of settling down. He enjoys his one night stands from the bar he owns, and they all know the score. Never more than one night. When he bumps into a very pregnant Tessa though, his life is about to change. Will he take responsibility? Will these two even get along? How will it all turn out? I totally enjoyed this couple! The story is relevant and Tessa is mature enough to her pregnancy. Her loving attitude toward her baby is enough to make me smile! Kyle proves to be quite the man. And his family is the kind everyone would love to have! Low angst, a little spice and great characters made this a pleasure to listen to.

Jeffrey Holz and Mary Jane Malloy bring out all the fun with a wonderful narration. Holz is Kyle, and he finds his true self. From player to responsible partner, he uses his nuances to create a great man. Mary Jane Malloy is new to me and I enjoyed her portrayal of Tessa. A little spunky, a little afraid, and all the pregnancy hormones, she gives us a real feeling of a new mom. Love these two together and their performance.

One Night by J. Akridge was actually a story that I took a chance on and ended up really enjoying.
Normally, I am not all that into stories of one night stands. I like the build up, the getting to know one another prior to the steamy scenes, but, I ended up really liking these characters, and the story line.
Our FMC and hero find themselves out one night, and end up enjoying a one night stand. Kyle is a play boy. He doesn’t involve himself in any of his one night stand’s lives after his time with them. But this time around, he doesn’t really have a choice. Because Tessa, she takes something with her their time together has ended, and that is the beginning stages of a baby.
The push and pull factor between Kyle and Tessa is addicting. &Kyles recognition of what is really going down now, and what road his life will be traveling down now is proof of personal growth, hope, AND dedication, putting his nose to the grindstone, and handling his duties.
But, will Kyle be able to acclimate to this new world and will Tessa be able to push through the stress and worry that comes with a new child?
This short story goes along way, and is definitely a GREAT read. &I definitely, DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone who either enjoys a romance that is built from a one night stand, OR a story with pregnancy in it. Or you are just looking for a great story to get lost in. While short, Kyle & Tessa’s story will keep you interested and you won’t want to put it down once you pick it up!

This had a lot of editing errors - sometimes its hard to over look..
Other than that though, I actually did like the story. It did seem lacking though. It was missing certain details and world building as well as the connection between the characters wasn't fully developed.

As soon as Kyle came back into the picture Chloe completely disappeared. It seemed like she was going to be a big part of the story as a side character but was ditched part way through. You would think after the first hospital visit she would've showed up or even the baby shower.. but she was just gone.
I expected something with the FMC talking with her about how she feels having Kyle randomly show up and be part of it with her now that she went through so much alone. But that didn't happen.
It did happen with Kyle but it wasn't done where I was feeling it had been resolved.

The shit with Vivian seemed a little off. Like first thing, the stuff she had been saying to her in side and out side of the office - that stuff wouldn't of flew anywhere. There are HIPPA laws not to mentioned she was basically being harassed when she came into the office and. She would've been fired. It was still weird.

The whole time with Kyle - their relationship went completely unresolved. Like are they together or not? Until the end when he proposes.

it was a good story, it just didn't feel like it was complete.

Spice 1/5
Humor 1/5
Emotional 2/5
World Building 2/5
Overall 3/5

I received a free copy of J. Akridge's audiobook One Night via Booksprout.

Tessa is looking for some rest - or rather a carefree night-out - after she moves to the city, unaware of what the night with the bartender (who later turns out to be the owner of the place) will bring.

Kyle, though known for spending only one night with any girl, was looking forward to spending some more time with the girl who had disappeared from his bed in the morning without a word.

For a long time after that fateful night, we follow the main characters' lives separately. As Tessa discovers her pregnancy - we have to admit that, although she was not very persistent, she did try to let the father know that their night had left some surprises - and as she has to cope with the majority of the pregnancy almost entirely on her own.

In time, of course, by chance, they will meet, but I won't give away all the details, I'll let you read (or listen) to it yourself. 😉

This was the first audiobook I've ever listened (and English is not my first language), but I enjoyed it. If I could give half a star, it would be 4.5 for me. The story wasn't completely predictable, it had a few surprises. Though Tessa and Kyle's love was a slow-burn, yet very powerful. Overall, One Night is a nicely plotted contemporary romance and I enjoyed the narrators' (Jeffrey Holz and Mary Jane Malloy) performances too.

This was a beautiful romance listen. Dual narration by Jeffrey Holz and Mary Jane Malloy was perfection in this surprise baby, contemporary romance. I adored our main characters - Tessa who grew up in foster care goes out to celebrate success in her career when she meets hunky Kyle for a one-night stand. Kyle is known for his one nights and variety so even he's surprised when after one night he was looking for more, only this nameless beauty is gone. Life continues well for both until Tessa gets the shock of a lifetime (well, the first of many but I can't give away too much). Determined to go at this alone after attempting to find her baby daddy she finds him in the unlikeliest of places. This book was full of sweet romance some great steamy chemistry and lots of love and fun too. While Kyle comes off as a bit of a player at first I guarantee he will capture your heart. Tessa is so sweet you'll want to be her best friend. Secondary characters are great - although I would love to know what happened with Klye's sister and her ex. Great listen, perfect narration, smooth storyline and a wonderful HEA!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.

This was a cute, simple romance read that did a good job of keeping me entertained while I worked and did some chores—I enjoy listens like this as they help pass the time and make my days more interesting. Plus: it packed a catty antagonist I just loved hating!

🍼 Surprise / unexpected pregnancy.
🤰🏻 FMC with no family, etc. and the baby-daddy wasn’t in the picture till about 8 months in.
🍼 Somewhat complicated pregnancy.
🤰🏻 Small town vibes—it doesn’t say it’s a small town but it seems everyone knows everyone / and it’s common to run into acquaintances.
🤰🏻 Age gap (8 years, nothing drastic).
🍼 Found family.
🤰🏻Health / wellness scares.

🎧 Audio:
The audio was pretty perfect! Excellent narration and overall professional sound quality. 🦩

📝 Notes:
The writing style resembled that of Nikki Ash at times so if you like one author, you may also enjoy the other.

A few instances of dangling modifiers noted, as well as just 1-2 occurrences of poor grammar, and a few minor continuity issues. Nothing that really impacted the reader experience, aside from serving as distractions.

Tessa is a realtor and she is new to the city so she goes out to unwind at a bar and starts dancing. A sexy stranger comes up and starts dancing with her. Things heat up between them and they leave the bar together to go to his place. They have an amazing night together but she leaves before he is awake the next morning. It isn't until weeks later that she wishes that she had gotten his name because she learns that she's pregnant from their night together. When she goes back to the bar but can't find him she gives up and plans to raise the baby alone. It isn't until one day when she's at her doctor's appointment and the sexy stranger from that night walks in. Will Tessa tell him about the baby being his? Can they have a future together with how they met?

This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Another book that gives me insta love vibes --- not entire a fan of it. This book was short and took maybe like two hours to read. It definitely felt rushed. But it did kind of cover its bases. This book was kind of happy the entire time too. It had sad moments when Tessa would remember she was alone and didn't have any family. A very happy moment was when she found out she had twins. Kyle was the typical play boy that never intended to settle down but then because of her he now wants to. I will say I enjoyed the writing style and how we got both POV's.

If you enjoyed reading this book, I would recommend Knocked Up by Mr. Wrong: A Miracle Baby Romance and Another.

One night is a very cute accidental pregnancy romance. Tessa and Kyle have a one night stand but she leaves before he can learn her name. 6 weeks later she realizes she is pregnant. I liked Tessa but wished she had a bit more trouble adjusting to everything going on. 21 and having a baby isn't exactly a walk in the park. I really liked Kyle and how supportive he was once he found out he was going to be a dad. I do wish they had reconnected a little sooner so that we could have seen them fall in love clearly before the babies were born. I think a challenge of this trope is showing that they didn't just end up together because of the kids and this one left me wondering that a little bit. Overall though I thought this was exactly what I expected in a good way. It had a couple great steamy scenes and is a quick read.

I listened to the audio version of this book and really liked the narration. Jeffery Holz and Mary Jane Malloy did a great job!

OHHH I love me a good one night stand book and with this one by J. Akridge, I completely devoured it in one sitting. It had amazing ups and downs and push and pulls between Kyle and Tessa. Even after they don’t see each other for so long after that night, that sizzle between them is there. I think what I really loved about this book is that the emotions evoked in it felt real. That moment from when Tessa sees those two lines to Kyle’s reaction when he finally has the realization of the fact that he and Tessa created something.
The one thing that was amazing was the fluidity of the book. It may feel fast but to me it was perfection. There was the right level of passion but also worry as things start to barrel through their lives even with the unexpected moments. I felt it all connected perfectly throughout! I am really adoring this author’s writing so I highly recommend giving this book a chance!

It is my first J. Akridge read and I love Love LOVE it!

This book is fast-paced and it is not that long, so I am able to finish it in one sitting.
The story is sweet and the characters are lovable.
I adore Tessa's independence and optimism. I love Kyle's protective nature and his heart.
They are truly each other's soulmates.

It follows the story of Tessa, a 21 years old woman who recently just move across the country.
One night fling with a sexy bartender later, she finds out that she is pregnant.
She can't find the bartender and well, being the independent woman that she is, she determines to make it work.
But the universe has its own plan and Kyle, the sexy bartender, is once again in the picture.
Kyle needs to prove that he is serious about forever with Tessa.
Can he turn the one night into forever?

One Night by J. Akridge is one of those fast-paced stories that just sweeps you off your feet.

New city, new home, a job that she loves, a past she wants to forget. First night starting over, what a better way to start than having a one night stand for the first time.

He was perfect. Perfect connection, agreeable to no names and night of passion. But several weeks later and two pregnancy sticks later, my life at 21 years old is going to change again.

I like I said, this is a fast-paced story, yet doesn't feel like it is. A complete story that doesn't make you feel like you missed anything. Swoon-worthy moments. Life changes and surprises that you were not expecting.

Wonderful read.

This author is new to me but I was not disappointed. I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, and secrets.

This is Tessa and Kyle’s story. Tessa thought having a one-night stand would be all fun sexy games. That is until she had one now, she is really learning what can happen. She does not even know the name of the man that helped her get into this mess. Kyle never goes back to the same woman a second time. He is complete bachelor. He takes his one night with Tessa and thinks that is the end of it. Until he sees her again. She has a lot to tell him and it is going to change everything. Can they figure out what to do? Will they be able to form a friendship that can bloom into more?

I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I recommend this book.

I love , love , love this story.
when Tessa found out she was pregnant after a one night stand, she knew she had to tell the father.
They kept their encounter as a no names, no phone number basis. The only place she knew to go was the bar where he worked.
After she was told the bartender left, she was resigned to raise her child all by herself. She was hoping to meet him someday.
Kyle the no strings, no second dates playboy, really had an attraction to Tessa. Something about her was different from other women.
He wished they exchanged name and phone numbers. He really wanted to see her again.
With the help of her bestie, she had the love and support she needed throughout her pregnancy.
Tessa 's strength and confidence grew throughout this story.
Jeffrey Holz and Mary Jane Malloy narration is very good. They tell this.story with emotion.

Sweet Love Story – Audiobook Review 🎧
This is a sweet love story that I really enjoyed. It started off as a one-night stand and Tessa left Kyle without exchanging names or numbers.  Kyle is a playboy that never spends more than 1 night with a woman, but wanted to with Tessa, but she left before he woke up. Later, Tessa finds out she is pregnant and can’t find the baby daddy so decides to raise the baby on her own.  She eventually runs into Kyle and I loved the connection they shared for the rest of the story.  Kyle is really a sweet guy and I loved his family.  Tessa didn’t have a family, but she had a good friend she met when she recently moved there and she was so close with Tessa.  I loved this sweet, loving story and glad that I found a new author to enjoy.  The narrators were new to me and they were both very good.

This is a different take on an unexpected pregnancy and a one-night stand. Tessa just recently moved to the area, and meets a hot guy at a local bar. She is on birth control, so a one-night stand is not a big concern. Kyle owns the bar, and only does one-night stands, to avoid entanglements. Tessa tried to let Kyle know about the pregnancy but could not find him. Ironically, they meet again at the OB/GYN office when Tessa is 8 months pregnant. Kyle can count and quickly determine it is his baby. This is a sweet story, with a HEA ending. I don’t believe Kyle’s reaction is reality, but it is a sweet dream to see guys react this way. I enjoyed the story. The characters were interesting. The narration was well done. I received a free copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving my review.
