Ellie vanished. No-one knew where she went. There were no clues to help solve the mystery. Then one day, many years later, a diary is found. So unfolds a part-tragic, part-comic sequence of events that leads a has-been actor to find himself prime suspect, and in trying to prove his innocence he must confront his past, accept his many shortcomings and make amends to those he loves, while coming to terms with the astonishing truth behind the mystery. Set in London, Knowing Ellie explores themes of love, race and family, and weaves them all into an intriguing and, at times, shocking story of loss and redemption.
A thoroughly enjoyable read bringing together tenderness, intrigue, sadness - and humour, which I particularly appreciated, always brought into play just when it was needed and to great effect. The story is peppered with strong believable characters who carry the mystery through the storylines and take the reader to a well executed conclusion. Highly recommended.
An easy, gripping read. Realistic characters each riding their own emotional roller coaster throughout. Thoroughly enjoyable and definitely highly recommended.
