I was not expecting to learn the foundations and beginnings of Biological Anthropology. This book detailed out who had the passion and also how to drive this career forward in a big hypothesis that tested boundaries. This textbook was required for my college class and I am quite disappointed that my professor didn't use much of it. The book is easy to read with beautiful photos and an understanding for the field. I give this book 5 stars and it's one that I would recommend.

Fifth edition:

Up-to-date info on topics such as assimilation model and early homo development and diversity. The full-art representations in each chapter are fantastic, as well.

My 3-star gripe with this book (and all Norton biology texts I’ve read thus far) is that they give ~200 pages of biology introduction no matter the subject. Obviously I want folks without a background in biology to have an accessible introduction, but this seems much more likely to be a money grab.

Yes, this reads exactly like a textbook, which it is, but I am also the type of person that will read a textbook for fun. 🤓 That having been said, it is a very digestible book with a lot of visual aids that were actually quite helpful.

Interesting read. I had no issues getting through the chapters and actually enjoying what I read.
