Discover Holly Black's blood thirsty bestselling The Folk of the Air series in this gorgeous hardcover gift set including: The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King, and The Queen of Nothing. Of course I want to be like them. They're beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven years old when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him--and face the consequences.
In doing so, she becomes embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, discovering her own capacity for bloodshed. But as civil war threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.

Do you ever sometimes wish you could go back in time and re-experience a really good book or series for the first time again??
Because same!
An enticing world that's as sinister as it is appealing. Whatever a reader is looking for -- heart-in-throat action, deadly romance, double crossing, moral complexity, it's all in there -- this is one heck of a ride.
This is probably the best creation of a Fae world I have seen yet. I loved the mischeif, deception, illusion, allure and wonder that was the fae world, and how entirely vunerable we are to it. But most of all the sheer quantity and quality of players of that game, and the scheming of dark schemes. Not only could I never guess what was really going to happen or who was behind it but I felt outwitted by the possibiities, and that simply made this an imperfectly written (like all good things), but really fun book to read.
I can't explain in words my love for this series. Nothing—and I mean absolutely NOTHING—can beat the Folk Of the Air. I could go on and write a whole book expressing the sadness that I'm feeling because there aren't enough books of Jurdan. Hoping that Holly will write another book for them😩😩
Because of the hype, I feel like I am the only one to say this about this series ...but seriously, it was extremely slow-paced....and I almost got bored to death.
Anything interesting only happened in the last five minutes of each book which compelled you to read the next and... rinse repeat. It wasn't worth it.
i’m using this as a placeholder for the lost sisters bc this is the version i read from libby and want to be able to easily access my highlights👍
do i love taryn after this? no. still despise her. but it was well written and interesting to see what was happening on her side of things in the cruel prince. cardan making her cry was the highlight 🙂↕️
I read this series because it was recommended to me since I read acotar. To me this just fell way short. I honestly hated everyone in the books and wanted them to die. I get the author wanted a real enemies to lovers book but where did the lovers part come in. We got books of carden being cruel and his friends being cruel and then just a few words and it’s all better. The one person who actually died who was cruel to jude we didn’t even get to see. It happened behind the scenes by someone else and it had nothing to do with Jude. I was tired of reading of jude being tormented or worse physically hurt and no one knowing about it and she was left to deal with it on her own. I just wanted carden to step up and do something that showed he loved her and couldn’t live without her. He never even really declared himself besides I love you. Not to mention you wait 3 books for them to finally be together and it isn’t steamy at all and last for like a paragraph with no detail or anything. I don’t know how people can put this in the same category as acotar. The only similarities are they are fae. I wouldn’t recommend this series and definitely won’t be one I reread.
I want to start by saying that I grew up reading Holly Black. There was a point in time where she and Amelia Atwater Rhodes were the only fantasy authors I read. And for good reason.
Black is very good at creating fascinating female leads that are both relatable and admirable. The lead meets a male fae (usually royalty) and somehow their love overcomes all and helps them triumph against the villain, who is also usually also a fae creature.
Like most fantasy novels, it's all very formulaic, but that wasn't what bothered me. I was very excited to jump into this series. The nostalgia alone was enough to interest me and of course i read through them quite quickly and enjoyed the ride for the most part. Until book three.
In 'Queen of Nothing' our character is faced with a dilemma that almost too easily rights itself. Each obstacle created in the first two books of the series are skipped through like a playground. There are no stakes, no tension and no fear of things going wrong. Our story is wrapped up tightly in a fashionable silk scarf and handed to us on a silver platter. Unfortunately there was no breathing room in that silk scarf and it shows.
This series is cute. Great if you're a fan of Holly Black or just want a quick fantasy read that feels safe. However if you're looking for a story where the characters actually learn something and obstacles are overcome with some actual rigor then look elsewhere.
Omg. I don’t know what to say except that HOLLY BLACK IS FREAKEN AMAZING. And I really want this to be a TV show, but they had better not screw it up cause if they do I’ll be coming for them.
4.5⭐ rounded up i unexpectedly liked this series bc it wasn't really my cup of tea and I wasn't a fan of the first book but this surprised me SO MUCH i loved the writing style so much i could picture the events happening like i was watching a movie. jude is THE STANDARD for strong fmc and her and cardan oh my. im not even exaggerating when i say they made me love enemies to lovers. the way they hated each other and wished each other dead the first book and the way they talk about each other and love and care foe each other is just the most heartwarming shit ever, reading their moments had me giggling. also the politics here mixed with magic is soo well written it was so binge-able and so addicting. i would give it 5 stars but the first book was just bad except for the last 100pages
Well, this series was amazing. I especially like the last installment with its deserving conclusion. However, I think Cardan's character could have been better developed with few of his own POVs. Overall, loved it.
let's FINALLY discuss this beast, shall we? it's been almost a week since i finished this series and i just never felt like reviewing it, in all honesty.
i really wanted to LOVE it.
and i did, until the last book.
when i started this series, i was in an intense mood to get lost in a story that's not mine, a world not mine to face, struggles not mine to deal with. i enjoyed the first two books for the most part. i really did get lost in jude's problems. her story. her world.
even though i disliked her, i understood her fury. and even though i didn't empathize with her, i was still invested in her story and wanted to follow her in the next part of it.
one of the things i disliked--that got even worse in the last book--was the repetitiveness. “kiss me until i'm sick of it.” like, OMG STOP! i get it. cardan wants you to kiss him until he's sick of it. i get it. okay?
holly black really overdid the copy-paste thing. and it totally became much worse in the last book.
one other thing is that the matter of their appearances, which wasn't mentioned much or a huge part of the story in the first two books, became a little too unavoidable in the last book. it weirded me out so bad and caused me to kind of tap out from, and no longer connect to, the story at times.
other than that, it was well and good, rightfully, and i was too happy just losing myself in a book to make note of the silly plot holes--but the way the third book ruined everything for me is so sad.
(potential spoilers for the very ending of the series ahead.)
jude is a murderess in the first two books. i get it. i even undertood her fury. i excused her. because i thought--i BELIEVED--it must not be all there is. that there MUST be growth. especially because it felt like there was a part in her that was soft. redemption is the name of something, right?
but oh the huge letdown.
in the end, jude excused the terrible things she did like this: i've no other choice. she took too much pride in being called a murderess and was totally okay with velarian's curse coming true.
the huge frickin letdown.
what a way to grow from a naive girl to an unapologetic murderess. i'm sorry, was that supposed to be somehow attractive? if so, i feel a little lost here.
verdict: terribly disappointed.

¿Sabéis estas historias enemies to lovers?
Spoilers ahead. Rating it 1 ⭐️ purely because I can’t rate it 0. It’s been a while since I’ve read this series so I’m not reviewing every aspect of it. If you love this series, don’t read this review.
I first saw this on booktok because people were raving about how good it was. So I started it after reading ACOTAR hoping it’ll be almost as good, and man was I disappointed.
Now obviously it’s not the same story, and not even the same age range, but I genuinely found nothing to like about this series whatsoever.
It’s marketed as YA, but honestly, it felt like a middle grade novel. I could’ve read this for the first time when I was 12 and still hated it as much as I do now.
Jude is the most boring and unlikeable character I’ve ever read in a book. Her entire personality is “I hate fae”. I understand why she hates them so much, but she’s been in this world for like 10 years or something, surely she has other traits.
Every book was the same with a slightly different overall plot. “I hate Cardan, I hate Cardan, I hate Cardan, I love Cardan”. The end. Why on earth are they even together when he literally bullied the absolute shit out of her? Why do people romanticise bullying? I hate it.
It’s known that the fae can’t lie, yet half the time she still believes their lying. You’ve been here for 10 years, surely you know how to read between the lines of what they’re saying.
To sum up, I hate this series with a passion. When people on booktok do videos about what books they absolutely loved and other people should read and they include this, I want to throw my phone out the window. The blurb made it sound so good, and I was so so so disappointed. I only read the whole series because I bought the trilogy box set.
It is not an amazing enemies to lovers romance set in a Fae world. It’s a spoilt teenager thinking she can get whatever she wants because she’s not like everyone else.

My favourite series. EVER. Oh my god, I am so glad that I read this by chance one day.
Though, if you go into it thinking that the main plot is romance with ‘Enemies to Lovers’ you will highly be disappointed. Romance is a subplot and Fae Politics are what it’s mainly about. I went into it for the romance and stayed for the Fae Politics. Even though the romance is AMAZING, not to mention.
The writing is so simple but has meaning to everything and I don’t even know how. Like, something you think doesn’t have anything to do with the plot suddenly foreshadows something HUGE later on and you go ‘HOW DID I MISS THAT?’ When it was hidden between beautifully strung words.
The characters are written beautifully as well. For example: Madoc. Somehow, Holly Black made it so he wasn’t likeable nor hateable and I think that really ties you in with Jude. If your father figure had done something unlikeable, you still couldn’t fully hate him and that’s exactly what I think about when I hear Madoc’s name which is amazing. The main character Jude is also written amazingly and the ML, Cardan too.
In my opinion, there is a beautiful ratio of likeable characters and unlikeable characters which really affects the series. If a series has a bunch of unlikeable characters and 1 or 2 likeable characters, I would still be annoyed. But Holly Black rationed it perfectly in my opinion, though everyone could think differently.
If you are looking for a series that has a BUNCH of plot twists and things that make your jaw drop, this is definitely my recommendation for you. Please read it!!

SUMMARY: Beautifully written characters, beautiful writing, beautiful foreshadowing and depth in writing, beautiful ratio of likeable and unlikeable characters, and a series that will definitely leave you shocked! (Also, it has a HEA!)
This series was stunning. STUNNING. I had no idea I would love it as much as I did. It was such a joy to read. It kept me completely on the edge of my seat throughout every book. Just when I thought I knew someone’s intentions or how a situation was going to pan out, I was proved very, very wrong. This series deserves as much hype as ACOTAR and this is coming from an ACOTAR girly. I’ve grown deeply connected to the characters and I’ve continually had to remind myself that they aren’t in fact real 😂 ***SPOILERS*** This was a true enemies to lovers series for me. I already knew going into this that it was an enemies to lovers story, I’d seen some fan art of Cardan and Jude so I knew before I even picked this up that they were going to end up together but I absolutely could not FOR THE LIFE OF ME see how they were going to fall in love. I mean, the guy tried to drown her and kicked dirt into her food 😂 It was such an excellent read. It’s the kind of adventure that you hope for when starting a new book. I’m in a state of mourning now that it’s over and I’ll need 5-7 business days before I feel okay again. I will be buying the hardcovers. That’s when you know a series was dear to me 😂 Honestly 10/10. I see a reread for me in the future.
I just finished this book series and I extremely enjoyed it. Prior to reading them, I had heard so many positive thoughts and reviews about them but I was skeptical. When it comes to the fantasy genre, I've found that tropes are extremely prominent and front center in plotlines. Oftentimes, these tropes are often overdone and poorly executed to the point that it's rare for me to find a fantasy novel(s) that sits well with me. However, I found that not only did this series sit well with me but I found myself enjoying it. The tropes that lay within were well executed in a manner that is original and hasn't been overdone. I commend the author for the writing and it was extremely well-written. I loved it and would definitely read it again. I'd recommend it to any die-hard fans of fantasy.
i will die with this series. if i can only read one series for the rest of my life: this is it. love the court intrigue, jude, cardan, the TENSION?? enemies to lovers and morally grey???? and the way holly black portrayed the fae world. are there plot holes? well i’m blind and don’t see them 😌
this trilogy really surprised me. i'd give it five stars but i'm trying to think objectively. Plus, i didnt enjoy the three of them exactly the same. Let's say:
the cruel prince: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ the wicked king: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ the queen of nothing: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
to be fair, QoN is my favourite one, because being the last one i was really invested. i wouldnt say i loved the first one, but it did amaze me. i know there are pretty good reviews, but it being a booktok classic didn't really attract me. now, however, i totally recommend it !
THE CRUEL PRINCE what i liked the most was the scenery, the settings, the overall vibe. it reminded me of the fairytales i read when i was little, but with a new and refreshing eerie element. thats exactly how fantasy works, really—a magical and disturbing world at the same time.
im not a fan of first person narrative, let alone present tense, but i actually loved jude's descriptions. also, the way in which she talked about her feelings (mostly female rage and murderous impulses haha which i loved) isnt insufferable. it's quite interesting and even witty. she's my favourite character for mainly the same reasons everyone else has. tho i have an unpopular opinion: i did not fall in love with cardan. he was okay but i didnt really.... no. they were made for each other, either way.
the ending. THE ENDIND. loved it. shouldve seen it coming but i never did. THE BETRAYAL MAN. THE LOOK ON HIS FACE WHEN THE CROWN FELL OVER HIS HEAD- love betrayal trope. im gonna eat it up every time.
THE WICKED KING i cant remember much, honestly. i recall the main plotwist and you know what scene but thats all. it was good but it made me kinda sad. especially jude's captivity. she was so lonely and thinking cardan had one less problem without her.
the battle with balekin was one of my favourite parts. and the marriage proposal !!!! and obviously the betrayal. what's an enemies to lovers without a betrayal?
THE QUEEN OF NOTHING i was really invested. it was the only book spoilers free for me, because i already knew many many spoilers from the others. but i had no idea of what could happen. i loved the reencounter!!! so much tension and grudges and resentment and repressed feelings and confusion and gjdhfkdh. i also LOVED when they came to get her back from madoc, and cardan was coming too???? the man was head over heels. didnt really like the serpent plot tho. but the scene where they confess their feelings and dkshdkshs. yeah four stars.

The whole story was so beautiful, until the last part in the second book, even if in the third one I found out everything and could understand every part that happened. I will say that the book could have more action so you can keep your eyes on the story. I didn’t really like the end of the story because I wanted to see more information about them, but it’s okay
