I was a huge, HUGE fan of a wildly popular television show that aired in the late 1980s to mid-1990s called Tales from the Crypt. I hadn’t thought of that series in ages, but listening to Dream Reaper by Alistair Cross as narrated by Jamison Lee Walker, I remembered that time and felt the same giddy excitement of knowing I was about to enjoy a wickedly good “show”.
I was right. A battle of good and evil unfolds and dark clouds of spiritual warfare are about to rain down on the tourist town of Prominence. A most fitting scene for Gremory Jones, who sports a top hat and a trench coat, to make his appearance. We’re admonished not to “judge a book by its cover”, but do. Because Gremory…well, he’s kind of not a good dude. He’s got stuff people want, and that stuff comes at an “other worldly” price – kapeesh?
On the flip side, there’s the delicious eye candy, Alejandro, who appears out of nowhere, void of his memory – and his clothes. Which wouldn’t be such a bad thing, except he’s going to need that memory in order to tap into who he is and the power he has. We’re not even worried about the clothes - just saying’.
Madison O’Riley is just the girl to help him (and herself) as she enlists the help of a local psychic, the new chief of police, and naturally, a priest. And now it’s “show time”, with a battle between good and evil, and a story of love and redemption. The narrator’s voice is actually a perfect match for this story, but you have to listen to make the connection.
Grab a cuppa something good, get cozy, and listen for a spell.
