Natalie

When my supposedly perfect life falls apart, I turn to my best friend Lucas and relocate to BoothBay Harbor with my sole reason to push on; my daughter Savannah. Being around Lucas again makes the voices that tell me I'm not good enough fall quiet. But just as I start to heal, my past and his present threaten to tear us apart.

Lucas

In high school, Natalie was my best friend... and my secret crush. With her back in my life, she's reawakening feelings I thought were long gone. When things start spiraling, it takes all I have to prove to her that I won't walk away again. The further I fall, the more she pulls away. I want it all, but she has to want it too.

Can I be enough to show her that this is real, or is she living in a past filled with nothing but smoke and mirrors?

Norma Marie’s debut novel is brilliantly written. Smoke & Mirrors was everything that I hoped it would be.

For a debut novel, Norma Marie is strong in developing her characters, sharing their backstory and leaving a little bit to the imagination of the reader.

What I Love About This Book:
I enjoyed the HEA ending. I enjoyed the backstory between the two characters. It is a heartwarming story between two childhood best friends, who go their separate ways and reunite several years later after no contact. It’s a story of love, forgiveness, trust and creating something new. While, there are difficult parts in this book, overall I am so in love with these characters. I am a hopeless romantic and the story of Natalie and Lucas tugged at my heart strings.

Why You Should Read This Book:

For a debut novel, this book is very strong. One of Norma Marie’s strengths is character development. She gives you just enough to keep reading and wanting more out of each of the characters. This is a 3 book series! I am so excited for book #2. If you enjoy Contemporary Romance, this book is for you. If you enjoy a steamy romance, this book is for you.

I cannot believe this is a debut book. Norma Marie writes like a seasoned author and I was completely blown away by this book!

Smoke and Mirrors is a heart wrenching tale of survival and the aftereffects of emotional and physical abuse and finding love again. This book pulled at my heartstrings and at times was hard to read, but Norma Marie handled the sensitive topics with grace and compassion, and everything wasn’t solved with a kiss and romp in the sack.

We meet Natalie as she is leaving the abusive husband she just caught with the nanny. She has finally reached her breaking point and it is time to get her and her baby girl out. Natalie takes off with no destination in mind. She winds up in a roadside hotel and suddenly realizes that through her husband's manipulation and abuse, she is now all alone. Except maybe, just maybe… she could call her old best friend, Lucas.

The last time Natalie saw Lucas he was walking away from her at graduation after the announcement of her engagement to the evil egomaniac Ethan. How could she face Lucas again now that she is just a shell of her former self? How could she face him after Ethan broke her?

Lucas has always been kind to Natalie. But he has a life now. He is a model, travels, and has a girlfriend. What will happen when a beaten down and broken Natalie shows up on his doorstep with a baby? Natalie has a tough journey ahead of her and she is her own worst enemy, but when the negative talk is so loud how do you drown it out? Could Lucas be the answer? Can his words be louder?

Smoke and Mirrors grabbed me from the first page and didn’t let go and I gobbled it up in one reading. This book took me on a touching tale of survival, healing, trust, and love. I enjoyed the characters, the angst, twists, steam and most of all, the happily ever after that warmed my cold dark heart.

I am floored that this is a debut book. It was beautifully written and I wholeheartedly recommend this book and cannot to see what Norma has up her sleeve for book two!

This book takes place right where mirror image finished. And OMG wow what a book!
I loved this book so so so much, I was hooked from mirror image and then it just followed through to smoke and mirrors and I couldn’t stop until I devoured every single word. My heart broke for Natalie at a few points throughout this story. I really felt for the pain she went through.
The sass on little Savannah, oh boy it made me laugh. The little mantra Natalie chanted ‘I love my child’ ‘I love my child’ ‘I love my child’ , it had me laughing so hard. It’s something I’ll definitely laugh about when my 4 year old little girl has the same sassy tantrums haha.
I loved the way the author wrote Natalie and Lucas and of course Savi. I just fell in love with their story! It was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. But damn that ending, more like a happily ever after , it had me crying happy tears.
The book is over and I can’t express how much I enjoyed it and how much I need more, already haha.

My end note,
Everyone needs a Lucas in their life!

What a fantastic book ❤️

Sweet, funny and heartwarming

I do love a friends to lovers storyline!

Natalie and Luca were meant to be from the very beginning. They'd been best friends from a young age but Luca walks away when Natalies engagement is announced and he realises he's in love with her. He cannot bare to stick around and see her with someone else.
After years apart, Natalie turns to the one person who's always been there when her life falls apart; Luca.

I loved how sweet, patient and passionate Luca was about Natalie.
And let's not forget the love he felt for her adorable little girl Savi!

Although Natalie had been broken down by her Ex, Luca did everything he could to build her back up.

Their romance was sweet, steamy and full of so much love, it was a great read!

This is the first book by this author I've read but it won't be my last. The attention to details was on point and I loved Natalie and Lucas's story. We get the backgrounds that help develop the buildup to the relationship between the characters. It's a slow burn but it's so good.

Really good

This is the first book I have read by Norma, and I really enjoyed it, Natalie hasn't had the best of life's, Lucas has been her best friend since they were 8. Lucas left at the graduation when her father announced she was to marry Ethan, and so the story begins there is so much more to this story and I really cannot wait to see where Norma takes, definitely worth the read. Hopefully Justin and Madison's story will get told too as there's definitely a story there.

I enjoyed Smoke and Mirrors by Norma Marie. This is the first book that I've read from her, and I see a lot of promise with her writing! I liked the characters enough~ Natalie did get on my nerves with her need for "space", but I loved that Lucas was patient with her.

The plot was developed well, the characters had some complexity to them, and the writing was really good. I will definitely be on the lookout for other books by this author!

4 Stars! Such a sweet, at times heart-breaking and of course steamy read!

Natalie - finally fed up of her husband's infidelities, she packs up and leaves with her young daughter. She calls the only person she can think of, her life-long best friend Lucas. After getting engaged to her husband (the scumbag Ethan), her and Lucas lost contact so she's thought he might not come to her aid. As if she needed to be worried! Fast forward 3 years, when sweet little Savi gets into an accident and is put into a coma, Lucas is once again by her side. But what about his girlfriend? And his modelling career? Can she lower her walls and open up about her past with him?

Lucas - he's shocked to get a blast-from-the-past call from childhood best friend Natalie. He instantly leaves his current modelling job to get back to his home time to meet her. Which infuriates his so-called girlfriend Lauren, even though it is more of a relationship for convenience to help both their modelling careers. 3 years later when Savi ends up in the hospital it really seals it in his head and heart, that he needs to do whatever he can to make Natalie & Savi his. But what is she hiding about her past?

My heart really broke for Natalie, she put up with so much during her marriage that her self-confidence was at an all time low. Luckily for her she had Lucas to help pick up the pieces and slowly put her back together again. He is one of the sweetest male leads, and I just loved how he was all in.

I only knocked a star off because it was getting slightly frustrating how many times Natalie would try and push Lucas away. But overall this is a great book from Norma, and I look forward to the next in the series. Fingers crossed it's Madison and Justin!

No cheating. No cliff-hanger. HEA guaranteed.

For a debut novel Norma Marie weave such a beautiful story of emotions for her readers. I found myself going from completely gutted to full on swoon from the events that take place. I cannot wait for Norma’s next book.

Natalie is escaping from her sham of a marriage with her baby girl at her side. Seeking a safe place to father herself she finds herself moving into the guest house of her old best friend Lucas. After three years of attempting to heal Natalie is about to find out that sometime the best way to heal is to put herself out of a limb and trust that Simone will catch her. And catch her he does. Lucas is sweet and sexy with Natalie wrapped with a layer of ovary bursting adorableness when he interacts with Savannah, Natalies daughter.

What I enjoyed most was the strength portrayed in Natalie’s character and the growth she achievers. I also enjoyed the mention of therapy as I do believe that is such a powerful resource to overcoming trauma. Bravo to Norma for showing healthy paths to feeling happy and whole. The only reason I did not give a five star review is the icing was a little slow for me in some parts but for a debut novel I was impress with the overall writing techniques and skills used. I received an ARC copy and volunteered to leave a honest review.

Smoke and Mirrors (Mirrors #1), Norma Marie's debut novel, is a contemporary friends-to-lovers romance told in first person, dual POV.

The story follows the relationship between Natalie and Lucas, childhood best friends who temporarily lost touch, as Natalie escapes an emotionally abusive marriage to a philandering husband to start a new life with her baby daughter, Savi. The story begins with the immediate aftermath of the catalyst that gets Natalie to take Savi, leave her husband, and call Lucas for help. Then it promptly picks up three years later. It explores Natalie's journey to healing, starting over, and finding love.

I enjoyed Lucas and Natalie's story. As characters, I found them both to be likeable, well-developed, and realistically flawed. And I thought Savi was adorable and sassy. I loved how, for the most part, Lucas was supportive, patient, and understanding with Natalie as she dealt with the aftermath of an abusive marriage on her path to find healing. I also enjoyed how therapy played a role in the healing process. Smoke and Mirrors is a strong, emotional debut; and I'm really looking forward to reading Justin and Madison's story next.

"The past is nothing but smoke and mirrors."

I was blessed with an ARC copy of this debut novel my Norma Marie.

Let me start by saying I have never read a book where emotions fly off the page like this one. Norma's writing is top notch.

Natalie and her sweet daughter Savi leave an abusive relationship after Natalie has had enough. Her marriage to Ethan left her with so many demons that pick and tear at her inner confidence its almost crippling. Natalie is a strong mom and her love for her daughter radiates off the page. She calls a friend from her past to help her until she gets on her feet. Lucas.
Lucas, a successful model who isnt quite sure he wants to do this anymore takes in his old friend Natalie and helps her and her sweet daughter.
This book had so many twists and turns that will have you wondering if love can with stand anything.

Norma, this novel is a story I won't forget and will recommend to anyone. I cant wait to see the work you out out in the future.

Oh my goodness this book was absolutely phenomenal. It sends you on an emotional rollercoaster ride. One minute you’ll be laughing and the next you’ll be in tears. Natalie goes to stay with her best friend, Lucas, who she has seen in over 3 years. She needs to get over the end of her 3 year marriage to a lying cheating husband. Natalie struggles to raise her daughter and learn to love again. Lucas and Natalie are utterly perfect for each other. Now Lucas must convince her of that.
The characters are written exceedingly well. The characters development grows as the story goes on. This author knows how to captive you and keeps you wanting more.
I loved loved loved this book. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a friends to lovers book. When you read this book don’t forget the tissues!!! I foresee reading a lot more from this author in my future.

I enjoyed this book. I love Lucas. Most of the time he is so incredibly patient and sweet, until he's not. Thankfully he figures out pretty quickly.
I wanted to snack Natalie a couple times. I get that her ex was a total cretin, but she really pushed her luck with Lucas. What I didn't understand was her reaction to the engagement announcement, why she just accepted it, or why she didn't try to contact Lucas. She gave up on him as much as he gave up on her, but somehow that was okay.
I wish there had been an explanation for what her ex did at the end, and more of a lesson for her parents. But all around, a good book.

What an INCREDIBLE debut novel!

Norma Marie writes like a seasoned author in the first book in the Mirrors series. Lucas and Natalie pack a punch, and you can't help but fall in love with them and their shared history. Not to mention how cute and sassy little Savannah is! There is so much healing and growth, that you feel you are living with Natalie and everything that she's been through. Your heart goes out to her, and just like Lucas, you want to wrap her in your arms and tell her how amazing she is! Don't we all want a Lucas in our life?!

This book had heart and healing and was just so wonderful, I couldn't put it down! You will not regret picking this book up!

Oh my goodness this debut novel absolutely blew my mind & stole my heart! This story of love, of overcoming obstacles, of true love & friendship is one that you will never forget! Lucas & Natalie will overflow your heart while Savannah steals it! Oh my gosh I loved this book! I laughed, I cried, I felt every moment of self doubt that Natalie went through & I am now stronger for overcoming it beside her. What am incredible novel from an author who is just beginning. Wow! Though that might not be enough. This book captured my heart, my mind, my hope for real love, and kept me reading. I teared up, I smiled, and even chuckled a few times. The characters are believable and have so many true feelings that are brought through. The ups and downs were driving me crazy, but were so well worth the wait.
I was dragged in from Mirror Image and I had to read the book. I am sorry it took me so long to get to it on my list! Loved it!
Great debut!!! I am waiting anxiously for the next part.

Natalie, Lucas & Savi

No matter how broken you think you are you can find love. Love yourself and love will find you. Natalie and Lucas were best friends who lost touched until Natalie needed him. He was right there to stand by her side. She was broken but strong enough to fight through all the hurt and pain. Natalie was able to open up her heart to Lucas. Lucas had nothing but his career to keep him busy until Natalie and Savi came into his life. He wanted real love not a fake one. This book is a sweet and sexy read with a little bit of heartbreak.

For a debut novel, this was a most enjoyable read.

I loved getting to know the characters - such depth; I fell in love with the story of Lucas and Natalie & Savi - got mad, angry, hurt, excited and happy at parts of the story and cheered when Natalie stood up for herself, and Lucas punched the deserving person.

I was sad to see it end, look forward and hopeful to them be part of the next book - not looking forward to waiting till Fall 2021.

One thing’s for certain, Lucas is a good man. I enjoyed the storyline and all the emotion Norma spilled into these characters. Lucas won me over the moment he dropped everything, no hesitation, to take in Natalie and Savannah. Natalie had her moments of doubt, but Lucas was always there for her and her daughter and helped bring Natalie out of her shell.
I look forward to reading the next book. Madison and Justin’s, that story’s going to be one hell of a ride!

I loved reading this book by Norma. Lucas and Natalie have been best friends since high school and always had each others backs. Natalie is looking for a fresh start and her and her daughter so she returns home. Lucas is a model with a steady career and is shocked to see Natalie again after all these years. Will these two friends keep each other in the friendzone or will there relationship bloom into something more. I can't wait for book two in this series to come out.

Wonderful

I usually read more historical romances. I was surprised that I liked this one so much really I actually loved the story! It’s not a clean read and it f bomb gets dropped a lot but I skimmed over those things. I loved the characters and it has a ‘finding home’ feel to me. I love that! Lucas and Natalie were amazing together
