Evil. Evil is too pretty, too simple a word to convey all it holds within its meaning. You know what the Bible says: Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope, and it can outlast anything. Evil has much of the same qualities and it spreads like a sickness. Looking out over this snowy field, my breath coming in short gasps, I could see evil making its way into the darkness around me.

I had no idea what to expect from this book. Once I started I couldn't seem to get enough of it. If you like horror/suspense with some hot and heavy erotica this is for you!! Damn this book scared the crap out of me...if I was the character in this book I would be so scared. Evil lurked around in this story. And as scared as I was reading it I had to find out what happened next!

The sex in this book was amazing - a lot differs from Chris's other books. Anyone would leave reading this book wanting more of that scene! It was very hot and raw and erotic! And it was described in a way that made you feel like you were there.

This author threw you for some many crazy turns - very unexpected and I couldn't get enough of the suspense in his book.

This story flowed very well and left you wanting more!!

Satanic Panic Isolation

I am an avid fan of Carver Pike’s work, and I have read all of his works to date now except for Shadow Puppets: Scarecrows of Minnow Ranch, Quills and Daggers We All Fall Down, Discovering Ivory in a Charcoal Cave, and his dark fantasy series The Edge of Reflection. Redgrave has been my latest book of Pike’s that I have read, and here are my thoughts.

Redgrave takes place on a USAF base in Anchorage, Alaska. Sandra Sikes volunteers to watch a prisoner on the night shift in a broken down building on base. Mainly because she has the hots for her comrade. However, a routine night of checks may turn out to be a bit more than she bargained for. Once she learns the reasons why the prisoner, a Lieutenant, is being kept under close watch she becomes leery.

I thought that this short story was really interesting, and very well written. Which Carver always writes in a pristine manner with eloquence. However, I felt that this was a bit of a slow burn story. The erotic scenes were very nicely done, the pop culture references I love were great, and the bloodiness was on par. Nonetheless, it takes a little bit for the train to pick up full speed.

I felt that a lot of Redgrave took place in Sandra’s mind, and she has an overactive imagination. There was a lot of time given to her round checks, and she inevitably got very jumpy. However, a little over halfway through the book picks up. I enjoyed the rest fully, and it made up for some of the slow build. Being that this was one of Carver Pike’s earlier works I expected to see how much he has grown, and he just keeps getting better from what I’ve read!

Overall, I give Redgrave by Carver Pike four stars out of five stars. I only deducted a star for one simple reason. I wanted to know more about Redgrave. The ending segments felt like there was so much more left to explore, and I really hope to see aspects of this story re-emerge in the Diablo Snuff universe. A very different type of story, but very satisfying at the same time. The ending is a kicker though! Until next time, my friends.

A tense and fast paced thriller about a soldier guarding a creepy base with a psychopathic prisoner. The atmosphere in this story is genuinely creepy and unnerving at times. Read this in one sitting!

A horror movie captured in words. This story had me holding my kindle in a death grip and afraid to turn off the lights.

I was doing my daily search through Goodreads, when this book popped on my feed. Immediately the genre intrigued me - erotic horror. My first thought was, I had no idea this was a thing. My second thought was curiosity, since I love a good horror movie and was nursing a book hangover at the time. After mentioning it in our FB reading group, After Dark Reading, I felt a bit a of peer pressure to be the guinea pig for this genre. Given my need for something different, I was up to the task. How scary could a book with less than 100 pages be?

Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!!!!

This story has all of the elements of a good horror film.
The isolated location.
The psychotic man.
No weapons.
No phones.
All taking place at the dead of night.

From the minute the door closes on Sandra Sikes, as she guards a prisoner at the military post, my heartrate picked up. As you checks each room at the post, I could hear the Halloween theme song and my palms became sweaty. This author did a great job of building the tension throughout the story.

The title comes from the prisoner's name, Lieutenant Redgrave. While he is always present in the story, the fear element from him is slow. But when that build comes, hold the fuck on! I felt like hiding under my covers.

While this was given the genre of erotic horror, I felt it was more horror than erotic. Yes, there is sex in it and some great sexual tension. No, that sex isn't with the prisoner. Get your sick head checked out! LOL. The sex actually involves Sandra's partner at the post, Chapman. Poor Chapman.

This book absolutely delivered. I didn't think I could get the feeling that a good horror film gives you, but this author captured that feeling and I'm now desperate for more. This book won't be for everyone, but if you are brave enough, this is a great entry into the genre.

Wait, ok, I can do this...

This book is one twisted story and yet I was unable to put it down or stop reading. It's one of those books that sucks you in and builds and builds and you are waiting for SOMETHING to happen. Then you let your guard down and BAM!! If it were a TV show or movie, yeah I would have hidden my head and not looked, plugged my ears and sang 'mary had a little lamb' or some shit! hahaha

Seriously though, C.C. Genovese has a gift for the written word and it sucks you in to the time and place so much so that you feel the emotions and fear seeping from the pages. I hate to admit it, but I loved this story, even with all the cringe-worthy-hide your eye moments! The setting of the old medical building now prison is creep-tastic! And the way he uses the location to build fear and anticipation are incredible. And his characters are intense...either totally likeable and you fall in love with them... or... completely creepy and are worthy of nightmares.
This book is so good the end will leave you thinking,
'What in the heck did I just read?'

...followed by, 'Damn I am glad I don't live where it snows!'

...or, 'Okay, closest military base is more than an hour from here! thank god!'

ROFLMAO (yes okay, I am a chicken!!) But I did read this book and admit I am glad I did. I really enjoy the author's writing and to see this side of his range was incredible. A lot of authors try to capture that moment of utter and complete terror from their h or H, and this book has it in spades.

What if

While I've read Chris Genovese before I've never read anything under his pen name Carver Pike. It took me some courage to read this book. Not because I was scared of what was in the book. It was more apprehension in the fact that I support Chris Genovese in his other books and it was going to kill me to give a bad review because I don't normally like this genre. I'm happy to report I'm still crazy about Chris, but I think I feel a serious crush forming in Carver Pike and his sick, twisted, and demented ways of thinking.

I'll give a very brief review. Sandra is in the military and she seems to be trying to prove herself as worthy in the military. She voluntarily signs up to guard a prisoner Redgrave in a building that use to be part of the base. There is one other person that will be with her, Chapman, and he's part of the reason she's signed up for this assignment. Hoping to hook up with him once again. Her assignment seems pretty easy. Check the basement and first floor, make sure all Windows are still closed, make sure Redgrave is still confined, and don't talk to him. Now as straight forward as those directions are you already know this girl is going to mess up.

The what if questions she was asking herself throughout this book was putting me on the edge of seat. The sounds she would hear echoingthrough the building. I could literally feel the hesitation and the apprehension as she would go check in the cell on Redgrave. There were times I had to put this book down and walk through my house, almost like Sandra, and check the doors and windows. Other times I'm screaming at her giving instructions on what to do. Mainly charge her DAMN radio.

Now those of you that has read Chris before you know he doesn't hold back on the sex and while this book doesn't disappoint in that area. But this book isn't about the sex, at least not for me. It's about the way he gets into your head and messes with you.

☆☆☆☆ 4 "Locked In The Dark "Stars ☆☆☆☆

Holy crap this book was GOOD!! I will NEVER and I mean NEVER accept an offer to get myself locked in an abandoned medical building to guard a crazy person, let alone being unarmed in doing so.

Sandra is trying to prove she is more than the "little sister" in a group of male dominating Alaskan Special Forces. Volunteering for an overnight post at guarding military soldier, Milo Redgrave, who went awol and carving up his own face, Sandra is about to enter a darkness of hell she has no idea about.

Thinking she will have a quiet night of boring darkness and a fun friends with benefits good time with a fellow soldier, she will get the shock of a lifetime when the awol prisoner escapes.

Sandra will come face to face with an evil that has no issues killing to survive.

I really need another book that let's us tag along with the evil that Redgrave is sure to inflict on society. I must get inside his mind!!!!!

Redgrave : An Erotic Horror is the latest from CC Genovese. Its a truly haunting horror set on an Alaskan Special Forces base. Sandra ‘Sikes' is the small town girl who just wants some alone time with her ‘friends with benefits’ co-worker Chapman. When the chance of doing an overnight shift standing guard over a sleeping prisoner alone with Chapman cones available, Sandra jumps on it. Sounds easy enough, right? But the old medical facility in which the prisoner is being held is a creepy old structure housing more than just a few demons. What Sandra thought would be a passionate lust filled experience turns into 12 hours of psychological terror and ohysical torture right in the heart of the devils playground.
We all know Genovese is an erotica master who wields the capacity to work you up into a full heart pounding frenzy but just wait until he simultaneously fills you with spinetingling terror! You’ll need an extra pair of panties for this tale...you’ll either be aroused or pissing yourself..or maybe a little of both!

C.C. Genovese has done it again! Yet another sexy horror story. How does he make horror so erotic? Days after reading this book I am still wondering how I could be so turned on by this book, yet scared and wanted to sleep with the lights on. He is an erotica master! Don’t miss this one.

Carver Pike, this fucking guy…

On a military base, in Anchorage, AK, Sikes and Chapman are tasked with making sure Milo Redgrave stays locked in his cell. No way out for the two watchers as they are locked in for the night. Will the night go as every other night or will there be uninvited guests?

Carver. Every single time, this man gets me. REDGRAVE has suspense, thriller elements, some hot, HOT smut, gore, and so much more. In 80+ pages, Pike shows (again) what a powerhouse author he is.

It’s a brutal, uncomfortable story. With the characters locked in, the claustrophobia is almost immediate add on the darkness, cold, and depressing Anchorage winters (I can confirm as I live there) it makes it so much worse. It gets a bit warmer with a couple spicy scenes and then he ruins your reading life with the rest.

Am I threatening violence again? Yes. But it’s out of love. Honestly. The perfect quick read with so much more than expected.

5/5 stars.

The thing nightmares are made of, right here in the pages of this book. A well written, fear inducing tale of evil incarnate being held inside of a makeshift military stockade, being guarded by two unarmed soldiers, locked inside of this building with that evil, yea that will have you keeping the lights on. Besides the fear factor is also the erotic factor. The soldiers, one male one female, engage in some really hot and steamy action of their own while the evil prisoner is locked up downstairs.

The characters are wonderfully written and so well developed that you would swear you knew them. Ok, maybe you know someone like them. Chapman is charming, handsome and was such a character. I really liked him. Sandra Sikes is not what her parents though she would become, she became a soldier rather than following in either of their footsteps. She has a thing for Chapman, and swears she will make him work for it, but you know..sometimes the need just gets to be too much.
Regrave is pure evil and will scare the ever loving hell out of you. He never speaks, but his laugh is one that would haunt you if you ever really heard it. He manages to get into Sikes' head, playing with her, setting her on edge. She's a soldier, but she is scared.

I'm not really a follower of horror books, but this one takes the cake and I want more slices from this author. I'll just sleep with the lights on!!! Great read and I highly recommend this book....if you dare to read it.

I don't read much horror, so I'm not exactly sure how to describe this page-turning read. For me, it was a bit like watching episode 1 of American Horror Story: Asylum. Well-detailed spooky, empty old rooms, where questionable past acts of torture likely occurred, in a mostly abandoned military post's building, which houses an insane AWOL officer turned cult leader, set the suspense in motion. The pacing builds slowly with some "false alarms," so, of course, I wanted to yell at Sikes, the heroine, to ignore protocol; bring your gun, charge your damned batteries immediately, don't go to the basement, and watch out while you're screwing lol. Ending it with the same quotation that begins the young military woman's long night of horror definitely gave me the willies: "...the Bible says: Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope, and it can outlast anything. Evil has much the same qualities and it spreads like a sickness." I will say upon finishing it, I really, really don't want to be alone in my house, which is a complete 180 from how I typically feel. So, I'd say the writer did a fine job.

As I hadn't read 'Erotic Horror' before and Redgrave is written by an author who knows what woman want in erotica I thought I would give it ago. We meet Sikes and Chapman (I wouldn't mind a night with him) as they begin their night shift but little does Sikes know it's going to be hot for all the wrong reasons. The task is simple watch over a prisoner and have her way with Chapman......thats it. But Redgrave isn't your average Joe when it comes to prisoners. To begin with I was thinking it's not that scary and then all of a sudden I was thinking don't go in there, go hide and what are you doing? Yes it creeps up on you and you makes you want to check the windows and doors. I like that the C.C. Genovese writes so well from a woman's POV and doesn't disappoint when it comes to the erotic side of the story. Does it end well for Sikes and Chapman? You'll have to read to find out. Four and a half stars from me.

This author is truly amazing, I love the way he writes. It's like he is telling a story and who doesn't love to hear someone tell you a story. I could actually visualize the story unfold as I was reading it. This was a horror story with a steamy romance mix. Sandra is in the military and has a huge crush on a co-worker, she decides to take a shift in a house that no one has been in forever and is now set up as a make shift prison for a prisoner that was in the military and started killing. The sex was incredibly hot. I loved how she was so scared she started believing things were there that weren't. I hate being scared, but I loved watching this unfold.

Serious Heart Palpitations Guys

This was my first book in this genre. I'm a self professed scaredy cat and this book definitely made my heart race the entire time I was reading it.
But I didn't put it down because it was so freaking good, even though I was scared. Actually I lied, I had to psych myself up for a few parts. It was so real, I could picture myself in the scenes and jumped a few times as if I were actually watching a scary movie.

Well done Carver Pike, you scared the bejesus out of me but had me turning page after page to find out what was going to happen next. Seriously, grab this book now!

Sandra has volunteered to keep watch over a psychotic prisoner for 12 hours in the Alaskan night. She's also hoping she can hook up with her fuck buddy who is also keeping watch with her.

What follows is a night of creepy, don't sit alone in the dark alone hot as hell sex and terror.

...I can see evil making its way into the darkness around me

I loved this book! I only wish it was longer so I could read a little more sex and then more cat and mouse chasing.

So this is the first time I have read erotic/horror and this book is promising. Young single military officer Sandra volunteers to guard an old military hospital not knowing what she would soon be guarding.

I think I would of enjoyed this book more if it wasn't a novella, I felt I needed more out of this book, now don't me wrong there was plenty of mind fu#*£ery going on to make you keep turning the pages, but I just wanted more from this book. Put that aside this book was well written and also pulled a few goosebumps from me.

The erotic horror novella was exactly what I expected from C.C. Genovese. His detail and suspense kept me turning pages as fast as I could go. Evil comes in many forms and in this military setting, it seemed realistic at ever turn.

Hauntingly horrific and sexy!!!!

What could be better then a heart pounding horror story dipped in hot sizzling sex? Nothing that's what. This book is spine tingling scary and sexy as hell. I will admit to having to turn on The bathroom light about half way thru the book!!! CC Genovese takes you on a wickedly hair raising ride. He weave a creepy tale of a military installation where a psychopath is being held. A female military police officer takes the night shift with the hopes of hooking up with another guard she has the hots for..what do you get when you put two people, that have the hots for each other and a deranged psychopath in a locked down building for a night???? Your worst nightmare!!! Genovese always pulls you right into the story. Your right there with the characters experiencing everything with them. When their imagination gets the best of them in the book I assure you, you will start hearing noises and looking over your shoulder to make sure your alone!! And yes 3/4 of the way thru the book I went and checked to make sure all my doors were locked!!! That's when you know your reading an awesome book written by someone that has amazing imagination and skill.

I'm not sure what to think about this book. Sikes is in the military and in a man's world. She decided to take a post in order to be near Chapman, a guy she finds hot. It is a post no one else wants because it's secluded and you are locked in until next shift. She wonders what or who is she guarding, how bad can it be. That was not the thing to say. She is guarding a psychopath, that is locked in a room. She has no access to him, no key, so she's safe, right?!! She has to do checks every hour where she shines her flashlight on him and checks the other rooms. This place is creepy, it's old, the lighting go in and out but its my job to check on things. After a while she ventures up to the second floor where Chapman is watching a movie. Of course he knows why she's there so they had a passionate love session and she goes back down to her floor to check things out again...bad choice. Things only get worse from there. If you love scary books then read this one, you will be scared.

Wow!!! Having never read a book in this genre before it was such a pleasant surprise to read this book as this author has a way of writing that will have you on the edge of your seat and once I started this book I could not put it down it totally captivated me!!!
The story revolves around a women who is sent to guard a mystery prisoner otherwise known as 'Redgrave' in an airforce base in Alaska and without spoiling it for you I will just say that from the moment she walks in and finds herself locked in with the prisoner you find yourself on an incredible and terrifying journey and you never know what to expect as every chapter has a new twist and turn
A must read for anyone who wants a riveting read!!! You will not be disappointed if you buy this book it is a masterclass in writing and I throughly enjoyed this book

Holy Crap

I never read horror because I do not like being scared, however because I love Chris Genovese so much, I decided to give Carver a try. OMG, this book was so freakin' excellent! Yes, it scared me, yes it made me jump and maybe scream a little, yes it had some sexy scenes and yes there was blood, but it was so well written and full of suspense that I am glad I took the jump into Carver. Right when I thought I had it figured out and yes I did have it figured out for about 10 seconds, Carver hit me with a surprise! This book was so different then I was expecting and I am so glad I decided to give Carver Pike a try. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a great, well written, suspenseful thrill! I still would not read at night, by myself or in the dark, however, on a plane full of people I felt safe.... kind of.

Talk about tense! Wow.

This is my first read from Carver Pike and it was certainly a good one. Not many characters in this and only one location, so i was a bit dubious about how repetitive the scene descriptions were going to be. Let me tell you - they were done extremely well and that allowed me to get fully immersed in the story.

There was a graphic sex scene which i felt didn't really need to be there but it did add to the main character's emotional state and added a bit of respite from the tension that is brilliantly built up so can't complain too much.

As Sikes goes about her routine checks of the building, you can't help but feel the dread with every footstep she takes. I would NOT like to be in that situation, that's for sure.

Creepy, scary, and also a bit sexy. Would highly recommend

I probably shouldn't have read this novella at bedtime.
The author does a great job of building the suspense, interspersing the horror between mundane backstory and some spicy sex. The remote location in Alaska and the rundown army base are a perfect setting. I thought the dialogue especially good, capturing the essence of alpha guys. Sikes, the one female, displays all the confusion of a girl treated as the younger sister to these guys who wants to be respected by them at the same time.
A nice quick read that manages to titillate and scare the bejeezus out of you at the same time.

This was my first book written by Carver Pike and it won't be my last!
This kept me hooked from the first few pages and I couldn't put it down until the end... my heart was going crazy at some points of the story!
Sikes was definitely a much braver lady than I would be job or not to spend the night looking after a psychotic man in an abandoned building for the whole night... I loved how I never felt at ease through the whole book!

This short story was terrifying, completely and utterly freaky. It’s not my usual genre by any stretch, but I like reading something different once in awhile. This is definitely different. Why I decided to read it at night is beyond me. Excuse me while I go stay up all night reading some light and fluffy book to prevent nightmares ha! Seriously though, this book is really well written and the plot is super twisted and freaky and I loved it.
