This series popped up as a recommendation based on other cozy mysteries I have read. Seeing as it was part of kindle unlimited I decided to take a chance. This was a fun read. The story had a really good pace and is full of fun, quirky characters. I really enjoyed the mystery; it kept me on my toes guessing at the killer's identity. I am definitely a fan and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this book. Things I liked about this book:

Glory is a wonderful character. I love her back story and I find her very well developed. Her persistence and her perseverance made me really enjoy her story.

I liked the story, the mystery, the way it was set up was good.

Beverlee is hilarious. Everyone wants that flamboyant wine aunt, she’s perfect.

Hollis Goodnight is the Perfect level of cop and caring father figure.

Ian seems like a hunk with a good heart. I love that he has a bar, a boat and a dog.

The story was compelling, the side characters were interesting, Delores and Maggie were awful and I liked it.

Things that didn’t work as well for me:

There are some physical descriptors used for a couple of the women that made me cringe. Saying a woman’s nose is too big isn’t really contributing much to her character, or saying a woman is old, or too busty, etc. I’d prefer less of that kind of stuff.

There were a few too many nefarious characters. I like a red herring, but I got a little lost with how many people turned out to be bad people in this little town.

Consistency was an issue, Glory put her ring in the zipper pocket of her change purse, then a few paragraphs later she was twisting it on her finger. The deputy at the police station was Gabe, then Gage, then Gabe again. Beverlee telling Glory to watch her head getting into the car then saying it was a convertible. It just needs another go around with an editor before it goes live, is all.

Overall this is a good book, I would read more mysteries featuring Glory Wells.

A delightful cozy mystery filled with quirky characters, southern charm, and a dash of murder.

Glory is an event planner in Raleigh struggling to keep a roof over her head after the charity event that should have propelled her career to the next level instead ends it when her con-artist husband steals the pot and skips town. Wallowing in her misery and a pint of ice cream, her Aunt Beverlee lures her back home with an emergency that ends up being her fourth trip down the aisle. When the prickly wedding planner ends up strung up from the mast of the ship Beverlee plans to use for her pirate themed wedding, she becomes the prime suspect. Glory is determined to keep her aunt out of prison and finds that a small town can still have big secrets.

Glory is an event planner and she worked really hard on a charity event and her husband stole the money. Gloria is distraught over this and willing be having an ex-husband before long. Aunt Beverlee raised Gloria and has summoned Gloria to come help her. Aunt Beverlee is heading down the wedding aisle for the fourth time. Beverlee had hired Doris to be her wedding planner but has Glory and Aunt Beverlee head to the boat that the wedding is going to be on they find Doris hung from the mast. This book is so funny and the writer does a perfect job of describing all the details you can envision the whole affair. I was surprised how it turned out and you will be too!

Glory Wells has a problem. Actually, she has many problems: once a successful event planner in Raleigh, her life went haywire when her soon-to-be ex-husband skedaddled from an event with all her money and disappeared. Now she's broke, nearly homeless, and jobless.

Then she gets a call from her Aunt Beverlee telling her she needs her to come home right away. Thinking Beverlee is ill, Glory heads to the place where she grew up. But when she arrives it's only to find Beverlee is getting married -- for the fourth time, and she wants Glory to help her. Once Glory meets the wedding planner, she's not impressed. The woman is surly and obviously doesn't even like Beverlee. But Glory is more stunned when she finds that Beverlee wants her wedding on an old crate of a boat -- and pirate-themed.

But later that night, Glory returns to the boat and finds the planner strung up like a ham. With Beverlee the main suspect, she's determined to find a killer and save her aunt from jail. Unfortunately, she also has to face her old boyfriend -- the man she left to go to Raleigh -- and things only go downhill from there. Now, with help from a group of eccentric people, Glory seeks a murderer...who might know that she's looking...

This is the first book in the series and I didn't know what to expect. I have to say that I was not only pleasantly surprised, I was entranced. The dialogue is witty and sassy, with plenty of sarcasm thrown in (which I love); the action is fast-moving and the story pulls you in from the very first chapter.

I do like Glory, even with all her self-deprecation and resentment; although I hope in later books she'll find her center again and pull herself forward; and I also love all the secondary characters, including home-bound Josie, who seems to be interesting herself. Scoots is hilarious, and Beverlee is the kind of woman you'd like to spend time with but be grateful when you get home again.

When Glory returns she discovers things have changed, and it makes her feel out of place even more. Since she's not fond of wearing earplugs and doesn't want to listen to her aunt and her beau during their, shall we say, escapades, she escapes to a small apartment that's near the boat her ex, Ian, lives on. More problems. Then she comes face-to-face with the woman who made her miserable during school; and Glory isn't happy about that.

But she's also finding that not everyone is dreading her return, and she plows ahead with the investigation, putting herself in unwanted situations but never in direct danger, which I liked. Glory can think on her feet, even though her aunt is willing to do unlawful things; Glory manages to pull them out at the last minute, and I did enjoy that.

When the ending comes and the killer is revealed it comes as a complete surprise, which is delightful. How Glory saves the day is pretty humorous in itself, and the ending was worth it. I look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from the publisher and author but this in no way influenced my review.

Glory Wells was doing so well as an even planner in Raleigh since running away from her hometown, Flat Falls, NC, where she was labeled as a trouble maker. That is until her ex-husband absconded with her business, her money and the money from a charity event she was running. Alone and destitute, she answers the call from her aunt Beverlee, who raised her when her parents died. So now, she promised her aunt she would come to Flat Falls for a visit. This book is not only a great whodunit murder mystery, but a laugh a minute. We are introduced to Matilda, Aunt Beverlee's pet chicken, Scoot a friend of her aunt who also takes Glory under her wing with good advice and help in sleuthing, Josie who is on house arrest but is a whiz at the computer and finding information, and the man she left behind who still harbors a broken heart, Ian along with the affable police chief, Hollis Goodnight. When Glory arrives she finds her aunt is getting married to Edwin who dotes on her every need. And the wedding is to be out of the box! A pirate wedding complete with costume and on Bill's boat. Doris, the wedding planner for her aunt, is found dead on the boat and Gloy's aunt is a prime suspect. Now Beverlee is without a wedding planner so she begs Glory to take over the job. She does grudgingly while she is also trying to clear her aunt's name in Doris' murder. With her aunt and the help of Scoot and Josie they set out to do just that. But they keep going in circles, especially when they find Bill dead too. Will the wedding with Beverlee and Edwin even come off? Will Beverlee get her "dream" wedding on Bill's run down boat? So many things going on at once and your head spins. I love this series! You will too! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

The Bride and Doom is the first book of the series, A Wedding Crashers Mystery. I recommend this book filled with many characters of whom the author paints in a very visual manner in their descriptions. The circumstances that occur in the book are full of humor and kept me glued to the pages.
Glory Wells is a successful event planner in Raleigh or was until her soon-to-be ex-husband pulled a fast one and took off with the last events proceeds and all their joint bank account. When her Aunt Beverlee called with an emergency asking Glory to come home immediately for a few days, Glory went. She finds that her Aunt was getting remarried for the fourth time and needed wedding planning input from her because she wasn’t satisfied that her current wedding planner could pull off a pirate-themed wedding on Captain Bill’s boat.
After meeting the planner, Doris Sadler, Glory was not impressed and agreed to help her aunt. Then, Doris is found dead by Glory, and Beverlee becomes the main suspect. Several of the residents of the town of Flat Falls whom Glory has a history with, good and bad, are introduced as the sleuth begins to find the real killer through witty and quirky scenarios. Scoots and Josie are wonderful characters as is Glory’s old boyfriend, Ian. The story is fast paced with entertaining dialogue between the cast of characters and pet antics from the dog, Rusty, and chicken, Matilda.

The premise for the book is a good one. Glory has been conned and deserted by her husband and is summonsed back to the home town she swore she would never revisit until she could return swathed in success.
Needless to say her arrival is less than celebrated except by the aunt who asked to come.
Her aunt, Beverlee, is getting married- again. She is a serial bride and she and her groom have visions of a pirate style wedding. The wedding planner is less than impressed but she does take a rather desperate means of avoiding it. She ends up being murdered and Glory discovers the body.
Beverlee is one of the suspects although there appear to be many others in town with even better motives. Glory decides she must investigate. This is where it goes off the rails a bit. The local police are not buffoons and seem to have an affection for both Glory and her aunt so there is no great reason for her to put herself in harms way.
I have a real problem with heroines who act like the women in horror movies. The only thing that saves Glory from joining their ranks is the fact that she always was impulsive and impetuous. She is still trying to live down some of her antics as a teenager.
There is actually a pretty good mystery with lots of turns and twists. It goes in an unexpected direction which is always a treat. So there are many things that I did like.
I am going to give it four purrs and one paw up.

I love sitting down with a first book in a series. When I start a cozy mystery, if the first few pages don’t grab me, I’m done right there! This book grabbed me quickly. I loved Glory’s story from the first page. She’s pretty down on her luck when she returns home to help her aunt plan a wedding. Flat falls is a charming southern town with a great cast of characters and a murder that threatens to put Glory’s beloved aunt in jail. Glory has to figure out the clues to prove her Aunt is not a murderer, plan the wedding and try to make peace with her past in this fun story! The characters grabbed me right away. The pace of the story was great, with plenty of clues to really keep you guessing. I had a few hunches about the killer but was completely wrong in the end. This is a great first book in a series and I would love to see where life takes Glory in the next adventure!

This is a start to a new fun series of mysteries. The characters will keep you laughing all the way through the story. I enjoyed the different setting and approach to the story, which will be the first thing that draws the curious reader into the pages.

Glory Wells, still reeling from her ex-husband having stolen her money, has come home to the small coastal town to get her aunt through her fourth wedding. Unfortunately, the wedding planner is found dangling from the ship’s mast, and her aunt is the prime suspect! Can Glory stick around long enough to find the murderer? Will her own safety be in jeopardy?

I can’t even begin to describe the craziness in this story. You will need to experience it for yourself as you join Glory in following the clues. Be sure to grab a slice of wedding cake on the way!

I loved this book. The characters were relatable and well developed. The story was funny, sad, heartwarming and the mystery elements were exceptionally well written.

Glory Wells vowed never to go back to her hometown of Flat Falls then the aunt who raised her called her home. Her Aunt Beverlee is about to walk down the aisle for the fourth time and needs Glory's assistance. Bev has decided on a pirate theme and is determined to be married on an old decrepit ship. The wedding planner is murdered on the boat and Bev is the prime suspect so Glory has to find the killer and take over wedding planning duties. Meanwhile Glory keeps having to ask the boy who got away, Ian Strickland, for help just complicating her life even more. Highly recommend.

It was cute and definitely fits the cozy mystery genre well. There were some plot inconsistencies and some timeline wonkiness that troubled me a bit as I read, but overall, likable characters (my favorites are two side characters - Scoots & Josie). I'm not certain if I'll read more in the series, but that's mostly because I like a little magical realism in my cozies. It had the feel of a first in a series and the firsts are usually my least favorite, so I may give it another chance to see how the author does going forward. It was enjoyable enough to be worth another read in the series and to give the author another chance. It has potential for sure and the quirky side characters are a lot of fun.

Funny and engaging

Glory returns to her childhood home town to assist her aunt, who took her in when her parents died, with her wedding. Aunt Beverlee is a hoot! She is also kind and insightful. Glory left town as soon as she graduated and hasn’t been back since. She feels like everyone is holding her “adventurous” past against her. Plus her life has been upended by her con man ex- husband. Two murders in two weeks in a little town where nothing ever happens puts everyone on edge. Beverlee is the top suspect. Glory tries to solve the crimes. Lots of colorful characters and the guy she left behind make for a fast moving story I enjoyed.

Aunt Beverlee is getting married for the fourth time and Glory Wells is coming back to Flat Falls to help. Glory lost all her money, along with her greedy ex when he disappeared recently. Now there is a pirate themed wedding to get through and a murder to solve.... or are there more murders, too? The characters are all shades of quirky, with fun banter amongst them. The suspense of who did what to whom and why carries throughout the story. The best dog around saves the day several times. The wedding reception turns out great and you will not believe who did it all.

Glory rushes back to her hometown, Flat Falls, NC, after getting an urgent message from her Aunt Beverlee. Once there, Glory finds that her aunt is about to marry again.

Glory has to deal with the memories of a town she couldn’t escape from fast enough when she was young. She finds that not everything was as bad as she remembered.

There is a crazy pirate-themed wedding, a murder, a pet chicken, a stray dog, an ex-boyfriend, and several unique locals that keep things interesting.

I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see what the future holds for Glory.

Definitely not the type of books I usually read, but I am glad I decided to try this genre. Ms. Scoggins has penned a delightful story about lost love, hitting bottom, going home, murders, suspicions, and new beginnings. There are several 'eccentric' members of this cast - all delightful people to get to know, and the author makes sure that her readers do get to know the major characters of her cast.

I will not tell the story contained within this book. Suffice it to say I found it a delightful read and have no hesitation in giving it five stars and heartily recommend it to readers who enjoy a murder story with a smile or two.

Really a fun, easy read.

The title hooked me and the storyline kept me reading. I was prepared for a Bridezilla on a rampage so an Aunt planing yet another trip down the aisle was a welcome change. I didnt figure out who did it in before the end of the book and that's another big plus in my enjoyment of a new series. Entertaining premise and some intriguing secondary characters were brought to life and I look forward to reading more in the series.

Glory returns to Flat Falls, her dreaded home town, to find out her aunt is getting married. However, when Glory discovers a body on Old Bill’s boat, she must use all her wits to find the killer, clear Aunt Beverlee’s name, and escape danger. The Bride and Doom has enjoyable characters and a witty writing style in a solid mystery. I loved how after her disastrous marriage, Glory slowly realizes there really is no place like home.

This was my first book by this author, but it won't be the last. I needed a good laugh, and the characters and setting in this were perfect. I especially liked the aunt and her pet chicken. The mystery was solid and the dialog between Beverlee and Scoots had me giggling long after I put it down. Two thumbs up!

Another new author for me and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is a lot going on in this story - broken hearts, happily ever afters, blackmail, murder, and how life keeps going despite the good and the bad that happens. It shows how some things can look so different based on from where you are looking. I will be looking for more stories from this author, I enjoy her writing and story telling style.

Treat yourself to this engaging first book of this new mystery series. Glory’s life has fallen apart. But she can’t go home - can she? She certainly doesn’t expect to be drawn into murders in her small coastal town. If you love a lively storyline, quirky and colorful characters, and lots of surprises, this book is for you. The dialogue is clever, funny, and very well-written. Enjoy the escapades of Glory and her family and friends. I’m already looking forward to the second book of this series!

The Bride and Doom was an enjoyable cozy mystery. Erin Scoggins has written an exciting mystery with lots of twists and turns. Glory was returning to Flat Falls for her Aunt Beverlee’s wedding. But when the wedding planner turned up dead, the mystery begins! Erin has written eccentric characters that interact with each other in a well written book. Who “do the murder” and why was a surprise to me. I enjoyed the book and think you will too. I received an arc for my honest review.

This was so good! I love Glory, Beverlee, Scoots and especially Rusty, the goofy dog! Everyone was the best kind of quirky ever. I could have stayed longer in their world and I can’t wait for the next book! The mystery had me so stumped! I did not see the outcome at all until it all was revealed. Loved the book!

This was a fun and well-written cozy mystery. I had an inkling of who the murderer was, but that did not stop me from enjoying the book. I'm glad that Glory decided to move back to Flat Falls as well. Hopefully she'll get back with Ian.
