Madison

Always coming in second.

That’s what it’ll say on my tombstone, and I’ve got the trophy to prove it. After years of training, I fall just short of getting that skateboarding sponsorship. And to top it off, my roommate decides he’s going to go get married, leaving me to fend for rent myself.

I’ve got one more shot at getting a sponsor, but with working at my “real” job all day, I better find a place that’ll stay open late just for me. I will live, eat, and breathe skateboarding until I finally get paid for it.

Tanner

Never first.

Is there a male equivalent to always a bridesmaid? Because that would be me. I’ve never been too good at taking chances on the girls I like, convinced they see me as just a friend. And when the girl I’ve been eyeing for a little over a year comes to me for some private skateboarding sessions, I break all the rules—and risk my job—and leave the half-pipe open just for her.

She’s dead focused on her competition, and she’s pointed out plenty of times she has no room for a boyfriend. But I don’t want to let another girl slip through my fingers, especially the one I know I’m meant to be with.

Double Trouble is the second in Cassie Mae’s Troublemakers series. Laugh and swoon as this unlikely pair teams up to follow their dreams and fall in love.

This is the second book in the Troublemakers series. Maddie is always putting everyone else first. Not doing anything for herself. What she does is skateboard. And she’s good. But she fears she is running out of time to get a sponsorship. But fears over taking care of her little sister rise up and make her think she has to give it up. When Tanner, her brother’s coworker begins sneaking her into the skatepark at Troublemakers, she has hope again. And a budding relationship with Tanner. But he holds back, because he’s afraid of moving to fast and scaring Maddie away.

I loved this story. We catch a glimpse of Maddie and Tanner in the first book in this series, and I loved getting to know them in their own story. Watching their relationship grow, and their characters evolve was beautiful. Maddie reminds me a lot of myself. Putting my family first, something I’ve done for as long as I can remember. This story was well written, and I just love the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in the series. I recommend this book and series, it’s a quick, fun, easy read.

Cassie Mae always writes such relatable characters! From Tanner's insecurities to Maddie's stressful family life, you feel like these would be people you know in real life. Tanner and Maddie's journey as friends and lovers is so sweet that I got goosebumps in some scenes. The supporting characters play important roles without overtaking the spotlight. Candace, Aislynn, and Demi give us insights into our favorite characters and have some character development themselves as well. Great book for a quick read!

•This was everything I hoped for and SO much more!!•

“I Knew You Were Trouble” was a top 3 read for me in 2020, it was absolute perfection and I was 100% hooked from start to finish. NOW comes “Double Trouble” and it has completely captured my heart and mind and is already my top read of 2021. Cassie Mae is such a remarkable writer and she proves it over and over in this book.

This is the story of Tanner and Maddie, and let me just tell you it is a heart-melting and emotional read.

Maddie we meet in the first book, as she is Pete’s older sister, is a tough, close to the vest, hardworking young woman. I adore Maddie and related to her in so many ways. She’s the oldest and often, with or without intending to, carries a lot of the weight of life, especially when it comes to family. She loves her siblings with so much of herself, desperate to take care of things and keep her head above water. This leaves little time for her other love, her dream and also her outlet, skateboarding.

Enter Tanner, now can I just say he is the most adorable thing I’ve ever come across in a book!! I loved every chapter of his, not only because of his sweetness but because of his vulnerability and the feelings rollercoaster he took me on. My heart split and stitched multiple times with him but I loved every second of it. Cassie Mae’s ability to write characters that give off such visceral feelings is honestly my favorite part of her books and Tanner is possibly my favorite so far.

Is it obvious yet how much I loved this book?!?

Cassie Mae’s not just fantastic when it comes to writing characters, her overall writing style is one that makes it impossible to put down. The pacing is flawless, the internal/external monologue and dialogue are perfectly balanced and the surrounding characters as well as the story didn’t leave me with any lingering questions or feelings. It’s a funny, sweet, heartwarming, impassioned and just phenomenal read.

“Double Trouble” gets infinite stars and eternal recommendations from me.

Cassie Mae has given us an incredible follow up that now leaves me anxiously awaiting the next book!

I received a free copy through the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.

4.5 stars — There’s just something about a Cassie Mae book that gives me what I don’t get anywhere else. The characters are so unique and realistic and they just get to my heart. And they’re just so freaking adorable, I can’t even!

I will admit, Tanner has made the book boyfriend list. I shouldn’t be surprised, for some reason Ms. Mae’s blond heroes always get under my skin. He kind of challenges all the stereotypes of what makes a strong dependable man. He is super sweet, ridiculously romantic, thoughtful…just quietly caring. I loved the way he saw into who Maddie was, and truly understood her. And didn’t want to change her. He made me swoon so many times, I can’t even. He’s not without his own flaws, but in the end I think most of those were just things he needed to grow in…which he did.

Maddie did her own kind of challenging — she was strong, a bit of a tomboy, but she didn’t spend all her time forcing herself into the tomboy box. She just was who she was, and she loved what she loved, and she made no apologies. It was refreshing. It was interesting to see a character struggling to balance her dreams with her responsibilities, and the love of her family. I mean, she frustrated me a bit too, b/c she needed to communicate with Pete!! But I forgive her for it.

I never thought about it before, but these two kind of swapped the stereotypical roles of hero and heroine in a romance novel. I love that! Maddie was very sex positive, and Tanner needed more of an emotional commitment…and both of those things are just fine! And despite not getting full steam scenes, Ms. Mae writes kissing scenes that leave my cheeks red and my tummy tingling…so I’m all good with that.

I loved the look into the world of skateboarding that we got. It really made me appreciate the sport.

Some great secondary characters as always, and I loved getting a bigger glimpse of Aislynn! It makes me even more excited for her and Luke’s book.

I feel like this isn’t my best review, and I’m worried I’m spoiling things. But there were just so many little details that I loved and that resonated with me. This series is seriously vintage Cassie Mae, and I hope more people discover the stories she tells about characters that just don’t get as much screen time, because that’s who my heart longs for.

5/5 ALL-THE-FEELS stars

All the cuteness! ALLLLLLLLLLL the feels!

I adore both Maddie and Tanner so much, especially Tanner feels like a kindred spirit, like a brother from another mother...
Just like in the first book in the Troublemakers series, all the characters feel so real - and I appreciate that both Maddie and Tanner are honest to a fault, brave as all get-out, and adorkably awkward.
Now my heart is basically a big puddle of swooned-out goo (while still flailing a bit like Kermit the frog because it doesn't know where to put all those feelings).

I really enjoyed this romance. Madison and Tanner are like couple goals. I loved how they had skateboarding in common. It was super awesome to see them dedicated to their own sports and interest. The chemistry between Madison and Tanner were awesome. I also loved that the heat level in the novel. was somewhat low. There was more focus on their relationship and less on the steamy scenes. I loved how they care for each other. Overall, really nice novel. Highly recommend.

I absolutely loved this book. As soon as I picked it up, I couldn't put it down till I finished.

Tanner is now officially one of my favorite Cassie Mae boys. He's seriously adorable and I was rooting him on the whole time.

Maddie is amazing. I love her dedication to her family and she is very easily relatable.

I cannot wait till book three and I'm going to seriously go and read it again because I loved it that much.

If you've never read one of Cassie Mae's books, you're going to want to read them all!

Maddie is focused on just trying to keep her head above water. And then she finds out some news that could change her life as she knows it.
Tanner has been in love with Maddie for months. He's trying to get the courage to ask her out and then ends up risking his job to help her reach her dreams.
What could go wrong? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Overall, the story was solid and enjoyable. There were a few minor issues that I had - like I wasn't sure how old Maddie or Tanner were at first and at times it seemed like maybe they were in high school or college and then something would be said and I wouldn't think that anymore - but for the most part the characters were great. I loved how unapologetically herself Maddie was. And I really enjoyed learning more about her family life and how she got to the place where she was at in life. I wish there had been more about Tanner's background as well as there didn't seem to be as much character development for him.

This book is a part of a series. While it can be read as a standalone, if you're the type that wants to know everything, you may want to start with the first book.

This is one of the first books I’ve finished this year, and it’s set a high bar for the rest of the year! I laughed, I cried, it was a great book. No, really, I wept actual tears.

Double Trouble is a love story, through and through. It is pure and wholesome and exactly what we all need right now. In a world where paranormal romance seems to be becoming the norm, it was a great relief to find a contemporary romance with nothing but humans, who care about each other deeply and want nothing but the best for each other.

As I was reading this book, I had the realization that it was a lot like that one song that you loved in high school, that was “your song” with your sweetheart, that just brings back all the warm memories that you had of that better time. It’s like a warm hug.

This is a romance for young adults who are struggling with where they are right now. This is a story for older folks who are looking for a feeling of being young again. This is for anyone who has felt lost in love, has felt alone in the world. In short, it’s a story for everyone.

I truly loved reading Double Trouble, and I fully intend to pick up more books by Cassie Mae.

Maddie is so dedicated to her family, always putting everyone else first without hesitation. But that needs to be balanced by taking care of yourself as well! Skateboarding is her dream. And although she is good, she needs to be better to get the sponsorship which would give her the chance she is looking for. She’s running out of time. And those who depend on her still need her. When it doesn’t seem like she can find a way to make her dream happen, Tanner is there for her, getting her into the skatepark to practice. He pretty much restores her hope and gives her someone that she can rely on at last. Will they move into a secure relationship? Or will his fears about moving too fast make him hold back?

These characters are so likable. I love caring, loving, supportive people who think nothing of doing for others without having expectations of repayment. Seeing them finally get back a little of that good will feels nice. Grab your copy and see how the extra skateboard attention and the relationship progress and whether they really will find dreams coming true – for both of them!

Poor poor Maddie has SO much flung at her and she still stays determined to follow her dream. I love that she is a tough girl who knows what she wants. Tanner is adorable. Cassie Mae has a knack for creating book boyfriends who are unique but still very relatable at the same time. I loved how honest and real Tanner was about his situation even though I do think he went a little overboard with his fear of coming on too strong. I think Maddie and Tanner fit so well together and were able to be there for each other exactly how they needed! While I can't say that this one made me laugh out loud like the first one did it is a wonderful story that did have me crying in a good way near the end. Another brilliant five star read from Cassie Mae!!

When her brother decides that he is going to propose to his girlfriend, Madison must figure out how she can afford to live and raise her sister, Demi, without Pete's income. She loves skateboarding and was hoping to get a sponsorship, but now she won't have the time to practice. Her friend Tanner works at Troublemakers, where she goes to practice. He comes up with a plan to sneak her in after hours. He records her practices because, one, she is great and, two, he is secretly in love with her. She is also secretly in love with him too, but she needs to focus and doesn't think he is interested in being more than friends. They get together every chance they can to prepare for the uncoming auditions. They get closer and then an accident occurs. Will it ruin everything?

Wow, what a story this makes. Tanner and Maddie just made for a great love story. So we would know both these characters from the first book but the character development is awesome because we get to see all the first date questions 😀.
I have to say the betrayal about half way through is heartbreaking 💔, but as the story progresses it all comes out.
Maddie has a huge weight on her shoulders and to have Tanner to share it with really helps her even before she realises his feelings. It is fast passed and I love that there isn't alot of fluff in it.

So my only let down is the ending. I feel there is still something we need to know about Maddie and Tanners future, did he get a job or open a YouTube page or what. Did Maddie enter more competitions, did they move in together?? But it doesn't retract from the book so I am leaving the 5 star review. I'm hoping some of them may be answered in the next 📖.

I really loved Maddie's POV in this book, she had so much to deal with, yet she was so fun and easy going especially with Tanner. I enjoyed the talks they had together, but have to say Tanner was a bit too insecure for my liking however it was completely relatable why he was how he was.
I am really excited for the next book in the series!

This is a first from this author for me, and although not my usual type of book, it’s a fantastic read! Maddie and tanner are perfect for each other. There was a bit of angst, and past hurts really got in the way, but they work through it. Definitely a book I would read again and recommend.

Such a cute story! These two characters complimented each other so well. They were very similar in some ways, and very different in others, and I loved them both. This story had Cassie Mae's signature style in its playfulness and its ability to balance the light and dark. I'm always impressed with how she can deal with darker, heavier issues so well while keeping the overall story so fun!

I really enjoyed the storyline of his book. I enjoyed the love story of this book. I loved the action part of this book. The one thing I did not really like was all the D words, I mean I can understand a couple here and there but it was riddled with it, it's the only complaint. I don't know it was pretty cute kind of tweeny.

I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was a book that I decided to try out based on the cover, but I was disappointed. It just seemed a bit juvenile and not as if the characters were in their twenties. I don’t think I’ll be reading other books by Cassie Mae.

Madison is priceless. She's a strong woman, taking care of her"family," and trying to start a career as a border. She's good, really good, but hasn't been able to get into the competition, but this is her year.

Tanner falls in love quickly. He always becomes infatuated with someone and "falls in love," but Madison is different. He's holding back, so he does scare her. He's trying to tell her how he feels, but something always stops him.

Madison is having a lot of family drama, and Tanner is always there. He breaks the rules for her and does whatever he can for her. She makes her move on him and is relieved when Tanner confesses his hesitations, but can Tanner forgive himself if anything happens to Madison?
