Regina Watts is an an absolute goddess of femdom fiction who loves writing torrid smut about the corruption of innocent girls and boys by wicked, more experienced young ladies and depraved older men--and if those dirty old men get what's coming to them at the hands of those same corrupted youths, even better. From kinky experimentation to twisted taboos, nothing is too extreme for Regina. I, like, TOTALLY liked this book.

Babysitter Bloodbath was my second book I’ve read written by Regina Watts. I loved the Pacific Northwest connections. It was a very entertaining story and captured the 80s style slasher vibe with the characters’ actions, dialogue, and the overall tone of the book. Very fun read. Clipped along and had lots of excitement and gore. It was cool to read something that might have been a movie. Time well spent reading this book instead of watching one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies for like the bazillionth time. (Not that there’s anything wrong with NOES or anything. This was just a refreshing change.)

I highly recommend it. I’m looking forward to the other two books in the series.

I liked this story.
This great book is inspired by slasher movies .
I was entertained and never got bored . It reminded me of the movies I was watching when I was a YA , with killers who murder everyone who cross their path .
I will read more by Regina Watts , I like her writing style.

While shaking the blood from his hand, Burr snatched the gun from the dying man’s grip. The guard was put out of his misery while, not far from Burr, the shouts of more guards frightened by gunfire rose the alarm.
Neoklaus Burr looked at the security camera poised in the corner of the ceiling, raised the gun, and spent a round in the lens.

October 1982: after spending the last twenty-two years of his life staring at a wall, having brutally slaughtered his entire family, Neokalus Burr's enforced stay at Monroe State Hospital ends in a bloodbath and with the crazed killer free to return home, leaving behind a long trail of bodies.
Thus, what was supposed to be a quiet evening for young Sarah, babysitting little Billy while her parents are out to dinner, scraping together enough money to buy a motorcycle, watching horror movies on TV and inviting her new boyfriend to keep her company, will turn into a long night to remember.
That is, if she can survive it.

That break-out at the sanitarium: it had been all over the news the night before. A man, a criminal presumed armed and dangerous, had killed multiple nurses, several security guards, and set fire to the head office of the asylum.
All in the space of an hour. Then he had escaped into the night. Citizens were advised to be on the lookout.

Babysitter Bloodbath is a short indie game developed by Puppet Combo, an american independent game development studio specialized in developing retro games inspired by 80's VHS era gore films, serial killer true crime, and 32-bit PSX survival horror games.
With a slasher movie-inspired storyline and basic PS1-style gameplay, the game is practically a true videogame transposition of John Carpenter's 1978 Halloween, to which the author had to change the title and references due to legal issues, that enjoyed considerable success among fans of survival horror and masked, knife-wielding serial killers.

The caller went on, his hard tone so crisp it might as well have been straight in her ear. A voice in her head. Her own heart, slamming in her body.
“Don’t you judge me,” warned the caller at last. “I see all.”
The line died in Sarah’s hand.

This video game novelization was maybe not memorable at all, but still an entertaining one in my opinion, adding lots of characterization, backstory, thrills, and lots of violent and gory deaths to the original media it was based on, making it a funny, quick and blood-soaked read definitely worth a shot if you are an Halloween movie fan.

Sarah thought about tearing the mask down, but the beam reflected off of something else. A dull shine at the edge of the light.
With a sidelong glance at the creepy mask and a sigh for the cramped space, Sarah cursed her curiosity. She twisted in a little farther to see what it was she was even looking at.
A kitchen knife.

More a 3, 3.5 stars review, but the author going full Quentin Tarantino in the ending, that brutal opening chapter that is going to stay forever with me, and that awesome cover art reference easter-egg, made my day for good, so I’m rounding up my final vote to full four generous stars and i'm going to recommend it to any slasher/horror fan with a soft spot for Boogeymen.

But that didn’t mean Sarah had to be a helpless victim. She was going to do her job, damn it. She was hired to be a babysitter. That meant it was her job to look after Billy like he was her own.
And she’d do it. No way in hell was she going to let Neoklaus Burr or anybody else harm a hair on that kid’s head.
And no way was she going to die that night, either.

'This slasher was an absolute smasher!'

What a great knife-wielding, total psychopath, blood red story this was, and brilliantly written as a novelisation of the old PS1/2 videogame of the same name.

Totally OTT, brutal, traditional slasher fayre that will seriously not disappoint - and supposedly for a YA audience! Maybe that was because many of the main characters were just youngsters themselves - reminded me of 'lambs to the slaughter'.

Although deliberately quite ridiculous at times, we get plenty gory action and interesting subplots that never cease to entertain. Think escaped crazy psycho that craves violence, mutilation and killing, that will stop at nothing, and you will get a good idea about what to expect.

Yes, thoroughly enjoyable and would make a great movie for all horror fans to enjoy...and not just for the blood thirsty teenagers amongst us!

Thank you RW.

Highly recommended - 4.4 slashing red stars of fire.

I've heard of the games before. I've read some shorts by Regina Watts. The shorts I read were more erotic than horror. Regina really shined in the writing of this slasher novel. Very old school slasher vibe. Even a VHS type style cover. Definitely gonna be reading this series of slashers by Regina and Puppet Combo.

Leave it to Regina to get me out of a reading slump. The past couple weeks I’ve had to force myself to finish books, I felt burned out and almost like a needed a break. Deciding to pick out a random book from my stack, within a few pages of Babysitter Bloodbath I was absorbed into it and finished it in record time! The writing is fast paced, with lots of hints at the design of the game this is based on, from the items the character picking up being dust free in an old basement, to the odd hiding spots for keys in order to unlock needed weapons. The attention to the game’s details is incredible, I feel like this book could double as a walkthrough guide!

Watts adds character depth and background information that really makes you feel for Sarah, Jill, Jack, and Billy and their struggles throughout single night in hell. Budding relationships and longtime friendships are presented to the reader before being torn apart and crushed right in front of their eyes. I swear, I could feel Sarah’s anger that she had for the killer as she tried to escape and get her revenge.

Babysitter Bloodbath is a must read for all fans of splatterpunk and beyond, and reading this makes me excited to start Nun Massacre, the next in this series of books! I’m hoping Watts will get a chance at writing a book for each game.

Babysitter Bloodbath is the perfect homage to 80’s horror movies! This one reminded me of the movie Halloween so if you liked that movie then you should read this book. It’s a little over the top, has some blood, gore, and a killer that no matter how many times you kill him, he keeps coming back. Even the writing style reminded me of the 80’s. The author hit it out of the park! This is a nostalgic treat for those who enjoyed 80’s horror much like I did (and still do). I can’t wait to read the next installment in this series.

Inspired by the video game from Puppet Combo of the same name, the story follows a babysitter named Sarah who takes a babysitting gig in her small town. She soon learns that the institutionalized murderer Neokalus Burr has escaped and is painting the town blood red. Oh, and Halloween is approaching, because why the hell not? This was a lot of fun and read like a Point Horror book and an extreme horror book at the same time, which made for a very cool vibe. It definitely seemed to draw inspiration from Halloween and Slumber Party Massacre, and that's not a bad thing at all. Fans of 80's slashers will absolutely love this. I would say this is the closest thing to a 5/5 that isn't a 5/5. I'm giving this a 4/5 because it honestly should have been a decent bit shorter (it kinda dragged towards the end) and there were some type-o's that drove me insane. Overall, I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to any horror fan.

Idk where my review went.. I thought I did one. Anywho..
When I first got this I wasn't sure how I'd feel about it. Seems Regina does a lot of erotica and thats not my thing. However I was pleasantly surprised it was freakin GREAT. It turns a small and simple game to a bigger story and a hell of a lot more people dead.. Im not much a gore fan(which is weird bc it seems like i mostly go after splatterpunk, but I can't help it they have cooler and crazier plots than most horror) hell in not even much a slasherfan. Im glad puppetcombo and Regina teamed up! My only problem is that the killer was a normal dude with a wife and kids and just snapped.. what the hell made him do all this and become super strong?

This is a short and sweet slasher novel that you won’t be able to put down.

I read this book in less then 24 hours. It’s less then 200 pages and it’s big font. It has all of the 1980s slasher vibes that I love.

One random night in 1960, Neoklaus Burr comes home from work and brutally murders his family, including eating his infant son.
1982 - Monroe State Hospital houses numerous violent mental patients, but perhaps one of the very worst is Neoklaus Burr. After 22 long years, he takes advantage of a sympathetic nurse and makes his escape.
After going on a random killing spree across town, Neoklaus embarks on his true mission: making his way back to his old home, from that night so many years ago.
Now, that home belongs to the Johnson's - a couple and their young son, Billy. Tonight, they are going out, leaving their babysitter, Sarah in charge of Billy. Sarah invites two friends over to hang out with her, and before long, the phones go dead and the power is cut. Neoklaus Burr has returned home.

Wow, what a book. I’m a recent Puppet Combo junkie and this book fed the beast. Thank you Regina Watts for nailing the essence of 80’s slashers, writing like you were being chased, and admirably expanding this weird little corner of horror.

BABYSITTER BLOODBATH starts off with a vicious and brutal scene involving lots of gore, violence, and even some cannibalistic infanticide. And the rest of the book has levels of extreme intensity, but it seems like the biggest, most extravagant wild card was played in the first few pages. The rest of the story is pretty entertaining and fast-paced, but I never could connect to the characters like I hoped and we sort of just alternated back and forth from chapter to chapter with a killing of some random (could have been nameless) character in one and some conversations/activities with our "main crew" in the next. It gave me some 80s slasher movie vibes, sure! I enjoyed all that. Fans of those movies will 100% speed through this book as it even reads like what you could see on screen. Fun, bloody, gory, over the top, and all the slasher mayhem! The killer is an unstoppable force and monster!

Note: my Kindle version had quite a few typos and glaring grammatical errors. Not sure if there is an updated file out there or not.

Pitch perfect love letter to old-school slasher flicks. Most notably Halloween, if you couldn't tell by the title. Thrilling action, a truly formidable killer and lots of tongue-in-cheek humor. Few things I respect more than a slasher that takes it's characters seriously- it's not hard to get invested in Sarah's plight and root for her to make it through a night. A wonderful final girl. This was based on a slasher video game I guess? Haven't played it but now I really want to because this was super fun

As an homage version of Halloween, it's fine—not very innovative, but adequate. As an adaptation of the Puppet Combo video game, it's even better, adding a terrifying background with scenes that could be considered downright splatterpunk and introducing more neighborhood characters who cross the path of the psychopathic madman. However, the killer's motivations could have been developed a bit, explaining what deranged him so much, or at least alternating a few episodes with a police investigation. It's a very basic and straightforward product that delivers what it offers, without any tricks: a classic home invasion experience with babysitters and crimes. It's full of clichés and very typical situations, but it manages to be entertaining.

......I made it to page 65.

I know, I know; I said I would finish. I can't.

I knew I was finished when I face-palmed after a poorly written paragraph. Even hubby agreed the writing was terrible after I read a passage to him.

If you take a great plot, say John Carpenter's "Halloween" and mix in terrible writing.
What do you get? Rob Zombie's "Halloween".
This must be the book version of RZ's "Halloween".....only less cursing.

I can get over ghastly editing; I can not get over ghastly writing.

Since I did not finish; there will not be a rating.

See now, why can't all self-/indie-published horror be THIS likeable? Babysitter Bloodbath was an absolute joy to read. Watts writes her characters in such a pleasing, smile-inducing way, then pulls the rug out from under you and pummels you with brutal violence. Ahh, the ol' switcheroo, I'm here for it.

I had never heard of the video game this was based on prior to finding the book, but it's obvious both are knockoffs of the original Halloween film. That being said, the book was actually quite good for what it was. It almost felt like R.L. Stine wrote a slasher back in the early 80s aimed at older teens. The story feels absolutely like the era in which it takes place, and just like all the Halloween knock offs that came out back then. The only real issue I had with it is the fact that the two teen girls talk like teen boys, cursing and calling each other "dude" the way adolescents boys would more so than girls. But formulaic as it may be, the story was as enjoyable as any decent slasher film from back in the day.

The story of Babysitter Bloodbath started, as you can probably guess by reading just a few pages of this book, as a low-budget fan game of John Carpenter's Halloween, made by the then relatively unknown one-man studio called Pig Farmer Productions (now a cult-favorite developer going by the name of Puppet Combo). The game was great, a proper homage to the first Halloween mixed with the gorier stylings of its sequels and the 80's slasher movies that came after it, all wrapped up with a PS1-VHS survival horror aesthetic that is hard to dislike.
I don't know if he got copyright claims for it or he just wanted to make money off his own creation, he then changed Halloween's characters, removed John Carpenter's tunes and presented the game as Babysitter Bloodbath. Michael Myers was not the killer anymore, as Neoklaus Burr, wearing a red boiler-suit and a clown mask, took his place as the game's chilling antagonist.

Now, many years later, Puppet Combo has made some of the scariest horror games you could ever play (yes, Power Drill Massacre, I'm talking to you) and is now more relevant than ever, with his style of games being plagarized by other rising developers. This means he's expanding his brand, having merchandise, adding more people to the staff, porting the games over to consoles and now, having his games turned into novels by Regina Watts . I got to say I got happy when I became aware of the book's existence and due to my love for his virtual scare-fests, I just had to read it. I really enjoyed how honest it was to the game, just like on it we see Billy watching Night of The Living Dead, the main characters are all there and certain scenes were greatly replicated.
I also really liked how cinematic Neokalus Burr's kills were written in this book. They were gnarly, greatly detailed and felt painful just to imagine them, and Watts layered them with a spark of dark irony which contrasts their darkness, it was really good. And, besides a problem I have with his origin, which I will discuss further in the review, he was actually a brutal and compelling antagonist. Think Rob Zombie's Michael Myers racked up to eleven, he was just a giant murder machine that refused to be stopped. And the main characters were pretty good too! I felt Sarah, the main character, was empathetic and even being a little shy, she just was a caring and sweet girl trying to do her job (in case you didn't notice, babysitting) the best that she could. Jill was awesome as her best friend, the duo had some really funny dialogue and sweet scenes with Billy, the kid Sarah babysits, which makes you like them even more. Jack, having the role of a sort of Ben Tramer in this story, also is very human and despite being a jock, is not the stereotypical douche character that appears in the Friday the 13th movies way too often.

Having said that, the book has two major problems, in my opinion. The first one being the plotline is way too damn similar to Halloween, and when it does move away from it is when most of the beats don't land. For example, Michael Myers is way scarier than Neoklaus Burr because he was just a kid when he killed his sister and we know that he is purely evil in that sense. Maybe he was an ordinary kid or maybe not, but evil has always been a part of him. But Neoklaus is different. . The other problem I have with the book lies in the third act, which is overblown, exaggerated and has weird dialogue, which I have to say contrasts the rest of the book in the sense that I really enjoyed the dialogue and felt I was reading real people talk. It's like the trauma that affects the characters doesn't affect them that much. I was hoping for a way more emotional ending and better send-offs for characters that were actually great.
Still, for all its flaws, the book is funny, scary and tense at the same time, and if you like Puppet Combo's games and slasher films, you shouldn't miss it!

If you’re looking for Halloween slasher vibes, then this book is for you! If you’re an 80’s baby like me, you need to check this one out. If you’re expecting suspense, twists and turns or to get completely blown away then this isn’t for you. This is straight up, to the point a horror/teen flick thrown into a book. Think: incarcerated escapee, homicidal maniac meets babysitter; I mean what gets better than that?
It was a lot of fun! Kind of makes you wonder if there is a part 2. Ps. I had super high hopes that Jill would make it!

If you’re looking to dissect this book, just don’t. You saw the cover and synopsis before reading so you knew what you were getting in to.

But speaking of dissection, I just really want to know why Burr snapped all of a sudden!? Hahaha

Great adaptation of the game!!!!

As the title says Babysitter Bloodbath (VHS Terrors Book 1) was an amazing example of how you can take a horror game and turn it into an amazing read. This book read very easy and at times I could picture myself playing the game. Sara is a amazing final girl doing everything she can not just to keep herself alive but also the boy she is babysitting. Burr is a great killer he reminds me of Michael Myers. The reason for the four stars instead of five is just do to one or two words that were misspelled correctly. However other then that this is an amazing horror story and I would recommend it to anyone who is a horror or slasher fan or a fan of book versions of horror games.

Not complete derivative trash but I’m awarding it five stars anyway. I loved it, warts and all. The opening scene was way over the top but I’m glad I stuck it out. This book is, yes, truly, so bad it’s good. I’ll definitely be reading the others in this series. There aren’t enough slasher novels so this was a gem. A must read for Halloween fans.

I happened to just have finished Camp Vamp by Elvira and John Paragon. Regina Watts should definitely hook up with Elvira for a book. Babysitter Bloodbath seems right up Elvira’s alley. There’s horror but there’s humor, too. And lots of blood.

Killer on the loose? Babysitting on a Saturday night?
Getting a creepy phone call? Inviting her friend and crush to party while in the job? Getting trapped in a cat and mouse chase with the killer? Yep, baby sitting can be a real killer! 🤡🔪

This book gave off such 80’s vibes and I’m here for it!
I absolutely needed to know what was going to happen next, I found myself cringing at some points at how much strength the killer had but I also found myself laughing at certain parts especially with Sarah and Jill’s interactions and conversations. Can’t wait to read more from this author.
