These delightful pathways to a better understanding of ourselves and our Creator lead us out of the busy and narrow confines of our lives into the beautiful natural world of which we are so much a part. There, in the wonderful natural home made for us by a wise Creator, we discover that nature restores our perspective of what is important and valuable, deepens our sense of beauty, extends to our minds an invitation to grow in knowledge and at the same time in humility. There we find an effective antidote against two of man's destructive enemies - boredom and haste. There we meet a source of happiness which draws us out of our misery-making preoccupation with self and with the problems of our own existence. But there is more. All creation is a revelation of what God is like and what God is doing and how He works. The Founder of our Faith illustrated how nature reveals God to the discerning eye and reflective mind. Jesus saw the same objects as all men see them, but to Him they were more than objects. They were manifestations of eternal truths. Lilies were more than lilies and sparrows were not only birds. They were witnesses to God's concern for the individual. To be sure, nature is not God any more than an artist's drawing is the artist. But in every realm creation tells something about the Creator, and therefore these essays are adventures - outdoor adventures in meditation.
