This was an interesting Advent series. What is the difference between hope and optimism? A variety of authors give their perspectives on hope. It was a challenge to do this series in COVIDtime. I found the discussion questions a bit condescending at times. For someone who already has a rich spiritual life and enjoys a balance of spiritual exercises, it was not useful to be urged to take on more spiritual disciplines. Might have been good to talk more about integrating current practices in a new way.
I order several copies of this each year, for myself and to share with others. It is an excellent way to center yourself amidst the insanity of the Advent season. Same thing for Lent.
