Daddy's Italian Friend, Book 5 of the Yes, Daddy series, was about 18-year-old Gabriella Taylor and 39-year-old Giovanni "Gio" Gallo.
Gabriella had done some online research on Gio and determined she wanted him to be her "Daddy". When he showed up at their home to supposedly escape from the crime bosses in Italy, she took full advantage of what little time she had left before leaving for college to seduce him. But things weren't all they seemed to be, and her life took a step into the surreal.
This was either a very poor rendition of a great crime novel, or it was just an odd way for a romance novel to be written. Either way, it was most unusual from beginning to end. The angst was medium, the dram was OTT, and the spice was drab. However, the emotional rollercoaster was in full swing with all of its twists and turns. So much so that the story became nauseating and bizarre the further it went. I mean, seriously, think about the LOTR movie where Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee finally succeeded in destroying the Ring of Power. Now picture the fade-to-black moments, and how many times it did that, only to come back into full light with a new twist. that's what you have with this book, only not as good as the LOTR movie.
The two main characters were not all that great, to be honest. The FMC was totally unbelievable in every action she made and word that spewed from her teenage mouth. She didn't act like an 18-year-old virgin, and she sure as hell didn't talk like one either. As for the MMC, he wasn't believable either in that he didn't act like a member, current or former, of any gang/mafia/mob/cartel/bratva, etc.
The whole story came across as cheesy, convoluted, and a bit freakish. I couldn't give it more than a one-star rating, and that was being generous.
