Deep Winter Tales From The Five Sides: A Mapweaver Novella

Rate this book
The snows were falling in Thicca Valley. Whispers of a bone-deep chill were creeping into every cabin, slipping beneath the doors and forcing their way through the smallest cracks around the window frames. Wind howled its way through the mountain roads and echoed in the mines like the ghosts of long-dead wolves, filling the air with a bite of ice and foreboding that only Deep Winter could conjure.

Video review (as part of my November Wrap Up): https://youtu.be/4KfQycvLEHc

This is a great collection of short stories that ties up to a bigger story. This is a really good gateway into the Mapweaver chronicles set some time before the start of Windswept.

For someone who has read all released books of the Mapweaver Chronicles before reading this novella, this was a really good callback to how things were so much simpler when the main characters were younger. In a way it felt a little nostalgic.

If you have not read any of the books from the Mapweaver Chronicles, you can safely read this without getting spoiled. This is also a really great collection to read for the winter season. (Though there is no winter on my side of the planet.)

What a cute little novella! I loved the connections in this story before Fox became the Mapweaver he is in the later books with who he is in this earlier incarnation. I loved the stories told and especially the last sentence of this novella.

It all brought a warm, fuzzy feeling to me, and reminded me why I loved WINDSWEPT so much. Now I cannot wait until WORLDBREAKER is released, and I'm glad I got myself ready for it, reading this fabulous little novella.

Read it if you can. You can read it in an hour or so, and it only adds to Fox's mystique and the MAPWEAVER CHRONICLES in my humble opinion.

A delightful tale

A delightful tale.

A deep winter is in full swing in Thicca Valley, come and join Fox and Lai, as they try to survive one of the harshest winters so far.
So, come sit by the fire in the five sides with a cup of warm sider and a fur pelt around you, stuff your belly full with rabbit stew and sweet pastry’s, as you listen to songs and story’s been told.

I really enjoyed this short, it’s before Fox’s big adventure and once again it sets the scene of family and feeling like you belong.

A sweet and simple offering -- as sweet and simple as the Thicca Valley itself -- this novella is more a collection of stories than it is anything else.

A few simple heroic tales told by the patrons of the Five Sides, with still an underlying story of a young Fox's own heroism.

This comes out at the perfect time -- a fabulous little "curl up in an armchair by the fire on a cold day" kind of read.

Transported once again!

Such a delight to return again to the world and characters of Thicca Valley. Kaitlin's writing is transporting and her characters and world so engaging.

A collection of tales from the world of The Mapweaver Chronologicals. It's not necessary to read and it is built in a framework style. I enjoyed it very much.
