Christmas of Love

Rate this book
A Holiday Western Romance Novel

Oh baby, it’s cold outside...
Austin Bishop doesn’t want a lot for Christmas. He especially isn't looking for love.
But romance shows up anyway, in the form of the most beautiful, curvy redhead he’s ever seen.
Suddenly, canoodling under the mistletoe seems like the best Christmas activity this side of eating homemade snickerdoodles. A fling with no strings attached? There’s no better way to celebrate the holidays.
Except, partway through the twelve days of Christmas, it stops being a fling and starts feeling like a whole lot more.

But Ivy has secrets, and so does he...

Christmas of Love is the fifth novel in the Long Valley Romance series, although all books in the Long Valley world can be read as standalones. It has some strong language, and oh my, sexy times. Enjoy!

This is a mad dog no from me son. People don't act like this, or respond this way outside of teenage hormones. You can't pay me to believe this dialogue, for real. I grew up in a small Idaho town and depictions like this are the worst personification of small town living. Not everyone who went to high school had a narcissistic asshole bullying them into their teens who then 'chased them out of town.' Not everyone who leaves a small town lies about their success level outside of town for insider street cred. Not everyone is a puddle-slunk mess in the face of disaster, romance or hardship. This female character is literally the worst 'can't do it for myself, so I wallow' trope there is. There is zero personality or realism in her depiction. Hence: lack of book sparkle. There is no soul in this book.

Don't bother. Points for lack of grammatical errors and inclusive side characters. But that is literally it.

Sweet, sexy, thrilling and redeeming romantic journey that will warm your heart and leave you with all the best kind of warm fuzzes. Perfect love story to get you in the holiday mood.

Ivy McLain is sweet, sassy and looking to make her dreams as an artiest come true, not looking for true love specifically in the home town she ran from for very good reasons. Austin Bishop is rugged, handsome, sweet, charming and in no way looking for the love of his life, not after the last time his heart was stomped in the dust. Sparks fly and chemistry will not be denied, loved this highly entertaining holiday romance.

On the surface of things, Ivy McLain appears to be a bright, happy, and smiling artist, but beneath the mask, she is suffering from the same insecurities she experienced growing up in the small Idaho town. She has hardly been back in town a few hours before running into her nemeses and rubber-banded back into her high school years. The problem with wearing a mask and telling everyone how successful she is, only creates complications, especially when her well-laid plans fall apart. Austin Bishop, on the other hand, has had his life torn apart by his parents’ betrayal, which resulted in his fiancé breaking off their engagement. Just when he begins to trust Ivy, he finds that she has been keeping secrets and he experiences her lies of omission as a major betrayal. Ivy and Austin have an undeniable attraction that zaps between them, but due to their brokenness, they both have difficulties fully committing to one another. It takes a catalyst moment for each of them to realise the truth. This story highlights the impact of childhood bullying on a person and the insecurities that it creates. It also shows how in spite of the fear of rejection, a person can nevertheless grow into a talented adult, especially after they have faced their childhood fears. This book is well written and although it is part of a series, it is nevertheless a standalone and does end on a very positive note. I received a copy of this book from BookSprout as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

A Love Worth Waiting For

I am voluntarily reviewing an advanced reader copy of this book, Christmas Of Love by Erin Wright.

What a marvelous early Christmas present, an Erin Wright ARC to read and a Christmas one too!!
Every book of Erin’s that I’ve read has been a treat to treasure but this one the best by far! I’ve come to love the Long Valley “family” and can’t wait for each new one to come out.

Can 2 troubled souls find a way through their pain to healing and love together?

It will be easy for some people to relate to Ivy because of mean girls making her teenage years unbearable. While others will not really understand. But it had to be so hard on Ivy for a couple of reasons. Her sister was loved and popular which I am sure made Ivy feel inferior plus the hormones going through out her body. Unfortunately these feeling can go on to adulthood which happened to Ivy. It broke my heart that she lived the way she did and felt she had to tell the lies she did. I was so happy when she met Austin in her hometown and he was attracted to her. It was fun reading about the adventures they did together that made her look a little different at her hometown. Austin was such a good guy. Lies eventually come out though. You need to read the book to see what happens. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

Ivy McLain looked around at her parents’ boring 40th anniversary party, hearing groups of farmers talking about crops, broken equipment, and water (too much or too little) – mundane, boring things -- and she was VERY cold. She did not understand why anyone would voluntarily live in Sawyer, Idaho! She wanted to return to California and get away from this place! She needed some hot cocoa before she froze to death on the spot! She rapidly turned toward the refreshments and ran right into what felt like a solid brick wall. The attractive cowboy steadied her on her feet; then she saw the cider she had caused to spill all over him. Blubbering apologies, she dragged him to the table and grabbed paper towels to dry his face. She couldn’t stop looking at his green eyes and awesome grin.

Austin Bishop introduced himself to the flustered redhead. But before they got to chat further, a pushy female named Tiffany threw herself all over him. He had made a mistake of dating her one time and she acted like he had made a lifelong commitment! When he finally got away from her, Ivy had disappeared. He asked Declan about her and was told she was leaving the next day. That was probably for the best since he wanted nothing more with serious relationships after he was painfully dumped by the woman he hoped to marry.

An accident involving Ivy’s older sister changed her plans about leaving. And when Austin needs Ivy’s help getting Tiffany to back off by pretending to date Ivy, their connection sets off a spark between them. Could a real relationship develop? Could Austin take a chance on Ivy and break his “no-serious-relationship” rule? And would Ivy be willing to stay, as long as they could be “warm” together?

I sincerely love this author’s books and the descriptions of the action among the characters. The bits of humor thrown in kept me laughing through much of the story! It didn’t take long to be drawn right in! The characters were wonderfully developed, most of them quite likable. These truly were “old friends” if you read the previous books in the series. The pacing of the story was perfect. I definitely recommend this one. It will take the reader through a world of emotions, but warm relationships and family will surround you. Don’t miss reading this – it’s a really good one to put you in the mood for Christmas, which is fast approaching!

Wonderful, sweet, suspenseful story with well-developed characters and plot that will take you away and make you believe in love and in spite of our flaws and imperfections, we all are worthy of love!

Ivy (we met her sister, Iris in a previous book) and Austin meet each other at an anniversary party, talk to each other for 5 minutes and they go their separate ways thinking that they will never see each other again. Ivy is from California and is headed back the next day but before that can happen Iris (Ivy's sister) ends up the hospital (I'm not telling you why) and so Ivy stays to help out and nurse her sister back to health. While she stays home, she ends up going out with Austin to pass the time and well.....no spoilers here but suffice to say it is a wonderful story!!

I have loved every book in this series and this one is no exception. You can read each book individually as a stand-alone but it does add to the pleasure if you read about all of the characters of Long Valley. Erin Wright takes you on a incredible journey with all of her characters and her plots always have an unexpected twist or two to keep you on your toes! Be warned...I stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it because well, I got so caught up in the story and the Long Valley world and it's wonderful residents that I couldn't put this book down until I knew if Ivy goes back to California or do Austin and Ivy come clean with those that love them and step out in love. Don't miss this one, I promise you it is a fabulous story!

This book was okay. Definitely not my favorite this year. Very misleading to be presenting this as a Christmas book. I can't actually remember any of the Christmas aspects of this story. That's a strike against it for me, as I read books like this for almost the sole purpose of getting me into the spirit of the holiday, regardless of plot. Not only did this book not get me in the spirit, but it had... very little plot?
I'm a little bit confused at the central conflict because it felt pretty forced. She hated the town she grew up in, and so she left. She had not returned in 15 years. Her family presumably did not visit her in San Francisco since they did not know about the way she was living. I find it very hard to believe that she didn't see her family more than twice in 15 years. That feels like a big plot hole.
I also felt that the author tried to discuss a lot of very difficult topics -- thoughts of suicide, homelessness, living in poverty -- and it was just not the setting to bring these up. She didn't really even do anything with these themes, except use them as a plot twist. Later, she tries to have those aforementioned struggles "rivaled" by a rich man losing his inheritance to be a... middle-class guy? Oh, and his fiancé was also a gold digger. Okay.
It was clunky and all over the place. There is a lot more that I could say about where this book fell short, but I would just be nitpicking. I don't want to rag on this book because I didn't hate this book. I actually got really attached to the main character, Ivy. I simply feel that this book could have been so much better with a little bit of focus in terms of plot.
Give it a shot! You might love it. Enjoy!

In Christmas of Love you get to know Ivy who is Iris's sister from the concurrent story Returning to Love. Both books are stand-alone but it is so much fun to read them both and get the story from different perspectives. Christmas of Love is all about Christmas is a small Idaho town with all the small town charms and activities that really bring out the Christmas Spirit. It is fun and lively, with loveable characters all around. But it also has small town issues like gossip and bullying in school and clingy girlfriends that you can't help but run into every day. Ivy wanted nothing more than to escape the small town and move to the big city to pursue her love for painting. When she could not afford to live in San Francisco on what she made on her paintings, she has to wait tables. Her stubborn pride (she is a red-head after all!) causes her to weave a web of lies and deception. Pair that with the trust issues from a past relationship that Austin has, sparks will fly. While both Ivy and Austin pretend that they are only going out to be seen by Austin's persistent ex-date Tiffany, sparks soon turn to passion between them. There are some great love scenes guaranteed to melt the snow at your house this Christmas. Will Ivy come clean to everyone and manage to win over Austin? You will have to read it to find out. I thought the ending was perfect and very believable. I volunteered to read and review a free copy of this book. Enjoy

A great sweet romance between Austin and Ivy. Ivy comes home for her parent’s party and there she meets Austin who she mistakenly thinks is seeing one her bullies from H.S. When that is all cleared up they spend time together even though she is due to return to her lie of a life in California. She left right after H.S. after facing growing up being bullied and tormented and now all grown up has spun a web of lies of the life she leads. When Austin and Ivy spend a lot of time together, they reveal secrets of each other that no one else knows, growing closer and closer. But the time is up for Ivy, she has no way of returning to her life away and has to fess up to all. How will everyone take it ?
A great read that had me chocked up with tears at both of their confessions but mostly hers as the author gives a strong, heartbreaking inside look into someone who has been bullied. I don’t think anyone can read it and come out with dry eyes with the message that comes across. I was a bit apprehensive with the way Austin took the news and what he did after he learns the full truth, Ivy had suffered enough as was owning up to her mistakes but I did see his POV (a bit) as to why he reacted the way he did. Only thing missing for me was an epilogue (I love my epilogues) as I would love to see if Ivy makes it and/or if Ivy gives in to Austin’s request before or after.

How often do you read a story where one minute you're laughing and the next you're grabbing a tissue? This one is an emotional rollercoaster!

Upon returning home for her parents 40th wedding anniversary party, Ivy literally bumps into Austin Bishop, her sister's boyfriend's best friend. While they are getting to know one another, Ivy and Austin together have some very funny times and some very sad times. Both have struggled with issues dating back to their teenage or early college years - for Ivy, being treated cruelly by classmates and for Austin family issues (plus a former girlfriend) which affects who they are today. Ivy is hiding some pretty big secrets and, although his are not on the same scale as hers, Austin has some too.

This story really makes you think about how much you can let your past experiences dictate your future. Are you giving your past so much power that it clouds your present and future? When you let painful memories drive you to such extremes, they're controlling you. Is that what Ivy wants?

But this is also a story of forgiveness - and what better time than Christmas for that! You will be laughing and cheering for Ivy and Austin, even though there are bumps along the way - just like life!

During the holiday season I love reading romantic stories with a holiday theme. “Christmas of Love” is a heartwarming love story that just makes you feel good about life and love. Ivy and Austin both had personal issues to deal with and neither was looking for love. Austin had trust issues and had been let down by his parents and fiancé. Ivy had been bullied in High School and had career aspirations she was lying about to her family and friends. Through Erin’s beautifully written storyline, a country girl wanting to make it big in the city as an artist and a cowboy who had everything and lost it become an unlikely pair at Christmas and what starts out as a fling evolves into a budding romance.. The characters were well developed and endearing, the romance developed slowly and was believable even though it happened over Christmas. The novella was fast paced and held my interest that I read it in one sitting. The ending was not your typical HEA but the promise of one for the future. All in all a novella that I enjoyed and highly recommend.
I was given an Advanced Readers Copy for my honest review. It was a pleasure to read and review this novella.

While I loved the original version of Christmas of Love, giving it 5 stars, the new revised and expanded version is even BETTER! Unfortunately, I can’t give more than 5 stars...

Ivy has always felt that she loved in her sister's shadow. Iris was wonderful at everything and she could do nothing. Add to that two nemesis, who made her life hell by tormenting her, all through school, and Ivy feels she has plenty of reasons to me miserable. The only thing that keeps her young is her art. She grows to hate the small town she grew up in. She left right after graduation.
Unfortunately, no matter how hard she tries, Ivy isn't happy in her new life. She waits tables to get by and tries to build up her art business. Ivy comes home for her parents' anniversary party and runs into the hottest guy. Sparks fly, until one of the girls who taunted her comes up and latches on to him.
Through a series of events, Ivy winds up stuck in her hometown for a few extra weeks. She realizes that because of her absence, everything she has back in San Francisco will be gone. She worries over this and how to tell her family. But in the meantime, she gies out on a few dates with the hunk from the anniversary party and falls in love. He has no clue what her life is really like either.
Finally, Ivy can no longer live with the deception. She blurts everything out. Will she be able to rebuild her relationship with the hunk and her family?
This book is great. I anxiously await anything that Erin Wright writes. This latest addition to the Long Valley series didn't disappoint.

There were several time I cried while reading this book.
Ivy has been lying to her family and everyone for many years that she is a successful artist in California. Now she has come home for her parents anniversary and is only home for a few days when she meets Austin but then one of the girls that bullied her in high school comes up while they are talking and makes it look like they are dating. After Austin makes it clear that they are not dating and that he did go out once with her she won't leave him alone, Ivy agrees to go out with him only to make it clear that he is off limits to Tiffany. But then they go out a few more times and enjoy spending time together in public and alone at home. Ivy keeps trying to convince herself that everything will turn around and she will be able to afford to buy the ticket back home after the new year. Fast forward three weeks and it is New Year's Day and now she rushes out of his bed and house to get home. She needs to come clean to her family about all the lying and then she will find Austin and tell him the truth no matter how much it hurts her.
Will her family react the way she thinks they will? How will Austin react? Will Ivy every get back to California and does she even want to go back now?

Christmas Of Love is a sweet holiday novel with a simple and somewhat over done theme.

After years away due to the ridicule and bullying she received in high school and feeling like she never measured up to her 'perfect' sister, Ivy McClain has returned home to Sawyer, Idaho for her parents anniversary party. Living the life of a starving artist in San Francisco hasn't turned out so great. When she meets Austin Bishop and things begin to click for them Ivy begins to see the person she truly is while also feeling like a failure and a fraud at all the lies she has told to present herself in a better light. Now she must face the consequences and make some life altering decisions.

Austin didn't see himself settling down after his ex left him, but he can't stop thinking about the woman that he just met. How can he let himself believe there is a chance when he knows the talented and beautiful Ivy will return to San Francisco after the holidays? And how will he reconsile his feelings for her when he discovers her lies?

I loved this book in the Long Valley Series. Ivy McLain left town as soon as she could, hoping to never return. She was bullied at school but she just wanted to be accepted. Ivy moved to San Francisco in the hope of becoming a successful artist but this is where she started lying to everybody especially herself. When she goes back home for her parents party she meets Austin Bishop. They share an instant connection but as she hates Long Valley nothing can come of it until Iris ( her sister) has a fall and Ivy decides to stay but this involves more lies until she is unable to live with the guilt any longer. She confesses everything to her family but she has to admit her feelings to Austin and hopefully he can love her in return. Little does she know but Austin has loved her from the first moment he met her.

Ivy McLain comes home to Idaho for her parents anniversary party. She's cold and miserable until she bumps into Austin Bishop, literally. She was intrigued until her high school nemesis starts hanging all over him. The day after the party her sister Iris is found laying in the cold snow, and is rushed to the hospital. Ivy forgets her flight and stay to help out.

Austin Bishop is a newbie to the area, and he is intrigued by Ivy. He's not interested in a relationship so hooking up with Ivy, who is temporarily in town is perfect for him.

Ivy and Austin become close, but they both have demons they are dealing with. Can they trust in one another and their growing feelings when they are not being true to themselves. Will Christmas bring them a miracle that they just can't pass up.

Christmas of Love is an amazing story that I fully recommend. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I read Christmas of Love before Erin rewrote the book and now it is better than ever. I have actually read all of Erin's books and I especially love Long Valley Idaho where she sets her romances, full of cowboys and heroes, romance and real world problems. But the books are also full of happy endings. Ivy grew up in the shadow of her "perfect" sister Iris and was bullied in school by two mean girls. When she studied art in college, she could not wait to see Idaho in the rear-view mirror and start life as an artist in San Francisco. Well, at least that is what she told her family but in reality she was just another waitress learning how to weave lies into reality. When she returns to the Long Valley for her parent's party she plans to leave right away but her sister, who was already seriously injured in a car crash has another crisis and she stays. She starts seeing Austin, the county extension agent and starts with the same lies she always tells. The book is full of emotion and reality as many of us have altered reality to make our lives easier but it ends up driving Austin away. But it also helps Ivy take a deep look at herself and start living a true life. I love books about redemption and solving realistic problems because it is real life after all. Erin rewrote the book and added and changed some material to make it even better. And as always, her quirky sense of humor bleeds throughout the story. Very romantic and full of feeling. I volunteered to read and review an early copy.

This is my FIRST-EVER Christmas read and it did NOT disappoint! I wanted something I could read quickly in between my CoHo reads and this was perfect at 146 pages on my Ipad, and did I mention it's FREE on the Books app!

Ivy captured my heart from the start because she is an artist trying to make a living in a big city by selling her artwork. She felt she needed to prove herself to her hometown's people, so she moved to California on graduation night and never looked back. I can relate to her because she was bullied at school. In a small town, everyone knows everyone, and the rumor mill is rampant.

This book depicts a beautiful love between a woman who despises her hometown but returns for the first time in nearly a decade to be with her family. That is until she met her muse in the form of a cowboy named Austin. I also liked the book's sister dynamic because it is relatable. I would go to any length for my sister, just as Ivy and Iris do for one another. I recommend reading this book!

Another great book by Erin Wright. Make sure you have tissue handy because you will need to wipe your eyes at time but you will also laugh. Austin and Ivy are perfect for each other. They only thing is that Ivy has been lying to her family for many years about her success in California and then she lies to Austin about it too. When she finally comes clean and tells the truth to Austin he is so hurt that he tells her to just leave. He thinks she went back to California but three months later he finds out that she is still in Long Valley and has been painting landscape pictures of the area and some have included him. Will he be able to admit that he still loves her and will he be able to forgive her for lying to him? Will Ivy take him back or will she reject him?

Another Long valley Story, this time it is the story of Ivy McLain, sister to Iris McLain, who was already featured in an earlier book. So this story is partly already familiar, we know some of the events happening, but now get the details of a story that was just hinted at in Iris' story.
Being in the know is not really a bad thing, it does not make the book boring, but one is curious to find out the details, the reasons why some of the thing happened the way they did, and Ms. Wright answers many of the questions that came up in the first story.
Ivy has a big problem - she played a role her whole life and finding the courage to show her true self is not easy. This is, what this book is mainly about. The love of a good man helps her to find the courage to break the mold and this is her story.

Ivy McLain has always felt as though she has been overshadowed by her older sister, Iris (being right behind the oldest girl in my family, I can totally relate with Ivy). But thankfully she literally ran into Austin. Austin isn't interested in getting to know someone one superficially, even though Ivy is getting ready to head back to California. They decided to date each other to get back at one of Ivy's bullies from high school and the woman who won't stop clinging to Austin. From that blossoms love and the chance for Ivy to tell everyone the truth about her success as an artist in San Francisco. But it's not without some very interesting bumps along by the way. You need to read it to experience those plot twists and turns for yourself. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from the author through Booksprout.

Didn't really feel like Christmas

The setting is in Idaho where it's colder than blue blazes in December; Ivy comes back to Idaho (the place she hates with a passion and can't wait to get back to CA. Austin is smitten when he first sets eyes on her, but his job as a county extension agent has him in Idaho with no desire to leave. He's not interested in getting involved with her but asks her out on a whim. She knows it can't go anywhere because she's counting the days until she can return to CA. But he has intrigued her enough to accept his invitation. These two are keeping secrets from each other and everyone else and that's never good. Eventually it all comes out, they are falling in love and she just might learn to like Idaho. Excellent story, even though there was every little about Christmas.

Excellent contemporary western romance. The author did a wonderful job of giving readers information about the characters premiums lives so we understood why they act the way the do. Ivy lives in California but came home for her parents anniversary. Austin is the land agent that works with farmers so they have more productive crops. Neither is looking for romance but instantly respond to one another. Unfortunately, Ivy is hiding a lot of her present life from everyone. Austin keeps to himself as he's not looking for a relationship. Tragedy occurs changing the lives of the main characters. I received a complementary copy of this book via Booksprout and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Wright.

This story touched me, as I was bullied in school. Like Ivy, I left for the military as soon as I graduated. I understand why Ivy hid who she was, but to hide herself from her family was completely wrong. I loved Austin and understand his hurt when all is revealed. Fortunately for me, my husband was my best friend first before we fell in love. Those of you who understand what someone goes through that is bullied knows the heartache and pain that is inflicted on one's self esteem and soul. Erin Wright wrote this story knowing the pain that is inflicted upon our souls. Ivy learns to rise above her past and reach for the one thing that heals our soul, love.

This is the fifth novella in the Long Valley Series and is the story of Ivy and Austin. Ivy was forced to return to Idaho for hr parents 40th anniversary party. She had put off returning for five years because of bad memories there. Things change when she runs into a gorgeous cowboy. Their attraction is strong but they both have scars and secrets from their past. Lots of drama and suspense intermingled with a range of emotions. You'll be laughing and you'll be in tears. This was a great story that had an entertaining plot and captivating characters. I read an advance reader copy and voluntarily chose to write a review.
