He was banished to a cornfield. She was cursed to destroy Oz. Together they will seek revenge.
Reva spent the last twenty years in her own purgatory, first as the Wicked Witch of the West, then banished to eternal darkness. Now that she’s returned from oblivion, Reva’s out for blood against the witch who destroyed her life.
Crow wasted years trying to distract his mind after the Wicked Witch—his true love—was vanquished. He never expected her to return, alive and well. Nor did he expect her to hate him with such venom.
When Reva leaves for the North, intent on destroying the true Wicked Witch, Crow refuses to lose her to the same magic twice. Even though she hates him now, a long journey can do more than stir ire—it can ignite desire.
Crow is the second book in this dark fantasy romance series. If you love hot shifters and badass female leads, then you won't want to miss this sexy stand-alone sequel.
I spend my days consumed by words and hoping to one day find my own DeLorean time machine. My life consists of avoiding migraines, admiring Bonsai trees, watching classic movies, and living with my husband and daughter in Texas—where it can be forty degrees one day and eighty the next!
Crow is the second full-length book in the Faeries of Oz series written by Candace Robinson and Amber R. Duell. In 2020, I read the previous two novels and the intro short story in this fantasy re-telling of a tale we all loved as children (and many of us still do as adults). Imagine there were more complex histories than what we all knew in Wizard of Oz, and if you never read the other pieces in the traditional early 20th century collection, you missed out. Luckily, Robinson and Duell borrow elements from these books and create a very different playground... one with sexual appetites, memory loss, and alarming alliances.
Crow focuses on the relationship between our lovable scarecrow and his former (or maybe not so former) wife and their long-lost daughter. If you haven't read the previous books in this series, I won't spoil the connections, but there is more going on behind the scenes with Lion, Dorothy, the Tin Man, Glinda, and the Wicked Witches we thought we knew. The imagination of these two authors is brilliant, and I can't imagine what they considered but chose not to include. The story is ripe with history of who betrayed whom, which lovers were torn apart, and why the Wizard took over Oz. We only know some of those pieces because the rest will be revealed in Ozma, the last novel in this series. While a big piece of this collection is fantasy like the original story, we have the introduction of the fae world, which includes more than I expected (in a good way).
Crow focuses on finding Reva; they are married but through trickery, they've forgotten who they are. Both remembered in the past, but they were tortured and harassed to the point a lot drove them apart. When they come back together, there is fury and lust. Which will win over? At the same time, we follow their quest to visit the gnomes and to beat the new wicked witch who's brought a dark cloud over Oz. Revenge is best served at the end of a drama, when we readers have been so emotionally charged, we need that epic battle scene. Robinson and Duell deliver an amazing one, and I found myself thrilled with the sort of fairy tale ending, except... there is a book still to come, and here we learn hints of the danger still lurking about. Can't wait to get to Ozma later this year when it's released! Definitely start from the beginning and enter the world of intensely creative authors with a well-crafted end-to-end story.
We’ve all watched the wonder of Oz, of Dorothy’s adventure and the magic of the land, but what happened when everyone grew up? What happened in the adult version? Take a stroll down the yellow brick road as you have never seen it in Candace Robinson’s and Amber R. Duell’s take on Oz, in the second of the Fairies of Oz series, CROW and discover the rest of the story, all grown up and edgier.
Rarely can one find two authors’ voices blend so harmoniously as they dare to turn childhood fantasies into a tale with heart, passions and a darkness that it feels completely plausible, just like the eye-opening reality of real adult life.
Sit back, fall into and remember Oz, then see it through a new perspective! Brilliant writing, fantastic, flawed characters, this one shines brighter than the Yellow Brick Road ever could!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Candace Robinson! This is my honest and voluntary review.

While this was well-written and while I still love this version of Oz, I wasn't as happy with this as I thought I'd be after the prequel and the first book. This time, we follow Crow and Reva who try to get rid of Locasta. Crow just wants Reva back (which sums him up completely if you don't count his fear of getting cursed again and his thoughts of his daughter). Don't get me wrong, I liked this and I overall liked Crow and Reva but Tin and Dorothy were so much easier to follow. Without giving away too much I can only say that it won't get boring and that I'll be back for the rest of this series one day.
After reading both “Lion” and “Tin” (the prequel and first book in the series) I already knew that “Crow” will be an amazing story set in this re-imagined world of Oz, courtesy of Robinson and Duell. Nevertheless, “Crow” surpassed any expectation I might have (and believe me when I confess having many 😊).
“Crow” is a wonderful story that perfectly link the original “Wizard of Oz” story with this re-imagined version. A story about love, loss, redemption, valor and courage. Crow used to be a scared guy, but his love relationship with Reva and the birth of his daughter has finally bring him the happiness he deservers, but Oz has a way to strike and steal your joy. As Locasta reappears Crows loses more that he ever dared to have and embarks in a quest to revenge the curse and regain his own fate and happiness while riding Oz of the scourge that Locasta has brought to the land.
“Crow” is the second installment on the “Faeries of Oz” Series by Candace Robinson & Amber R. Duell, who excel in expanding the world of the classical Wizard of Oz with brand-new elements to craft an extraordinary epic fantasy series, with a fantastic world-building and multidimensional characters that feel real and credible at all times.
The writing duo Robinson and Duell works seamlessly together, impossible to tell them apart in the story, which is in fact an extraordinary feat, that makes the story even easier to follow from cover to back, they do an amazing job of evolving Oz, adding and evolving the world organically, captivating the reader from the very first page and taking them along for the fast-paced, action filled ride. A real unputdownable book, whose only side-effect could be a lack of sleep the day after reading 😊 balanced by a feeling of utterly satisfaction.
Crow is the second installment in the Faeries of Oz series. In this, we meet Crow and Reva. I'm glad that I continued on with this series because what I was confused about when it came to Crow in the first book definitely made sense in this one. Plus him and Reva were adorable and I liked how they worked together.
Oh, and the romance between them was pretty spicy too. Their mission of defeating a certain witch was by no means easy. I liked all the suspense throughout it all but also the little funny moments in between. I just think this duo made the adventure completely bearable in my eyes.
In the end, the epilogue was so freaking cute and it made my heart very happy. Now I need to dive into the next book!
Thank you so much Candace for reaching out for me to get to read this early! All opinions are my own. True rating: 4.5/5
Lord, I don’t know how or why, but these books are so good! I loved the first one, and the second one is just as good. Crow was such a lurking figure in Tin and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this to find out more.
It didn’t disappoint. Also including Reva, formerly the Wicked Witch of the West, we get to know them both as we follow them on their journey to take down Locasta, whom ruined their lives. What a fantastic journey it was! Well, not necessarily fantastic, but written fantastic! It was so much fun getting to know them, their past, their present and their future!
There were twists, turns, happiness and sadness. I loved it all! If you love retellings and you want an adult twist, this series is for you!
After having a taste of what Crow was like in Tin I was eager to get my hands on this one and I wasn't disappointed! Crow and Reva's journey was just as exciting and also touching. I'm now eagerly awaiting book three!
Entertaining and enlightening! So many things we didn't learn about Oz before are presented in this adult version and Crow has become a fascinating man. They meet many obstacles as they attempt to clean up Oz! What happens to the Gnome King will blow you away. Fun and exciting, don't miss out.
Sooo good! I loved the slow building relationship between Crow and Reva. Reva was slightly arrogant but still likeable. I would read this again and again!
Crow is the second book in the Faeries of Oz series, and it’ll be released in a couple weeks. There’s also a prequel titled Lion, and a third book that will be released in the fall about Ozma. Ozma is a character that has already been introduced, and I’m so intrigued! I can’t wait to dive into this one as well! Lion is a super quick read, and sucks you right in. Although they each have flawless world building and can be easily read as a standalone, Lion is still a must read for me. I can’t decide which full length book I liked better between Crow and Tin, they’re both absolutely brilliant!
If you’ve read my reviews of Lion and Tin then you know that the entire series is based on the famous tale of the Wizard of Oz, yet it’s the shocking backstory that we didn’t ever know. It’s the future of Emerald city in all its twisted, evil glory. The witches of the North, South, East and West aren’t everything we’d come to know in the Wizard of Oz. No sir-ee, they are much much different. The Evil that we knew was made that way by the good, only the good that we knew wasn’t exactly who we thought them to be either!
Crow, who as you may recall didn’t have a brain. You see, he was actually under the spell of Locasta, one of the seemingly good witches who in all reality was the most evil of them all. Crow was once a very handsome fae with his wits fully intact. He had turned down Locasta and fell deeply in love with Reva, a very magical and good hearted fae. Locasta found them shortly after the birth of their daughter and turned Reva into one of the wicked witches… that's right readers, you read that correctly! Crow was cast to the cornfield and forced to be the plaything of Locasta for years and years. As for their daughter, I don’t want to give away what really happened to her, because well, that’s tied into the story of Tin which is a jaw dropping twist on it’s own!! SO, let’s just fast forward time, about 21 years after the curse and the spell that changed the entire path of Reva and Crows lives as well as that of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ as we know it.
Now, because Dorothy has been and gone, and has come back again (in Tin) and had had quite the post-Oz story of her own, the curse has been broken. Reva has returned to her original form, and Crow has long since gained back his mind AND gone through a second torture by the hands of Locasta. The two, in a roundabout way, are reunited, as well as Dorothy and Tin. Together the four and other friends, namely Ozma who’s full story is yet to be told, must travel down the brick road, through the now gastly Emerald City, across the disgusting corn fields that haunted Crow for so long, and onward to Locasta’s castle to claim their defeat.
In order to pull off this task they must split up. Reva and Crow are the main characters of course so 90% of the story is theirs to tell. The rest only make their appearances here and there to weave it all together. Along their journey, they must get past their years of deceit and harbored hurtful feelings toward each other, all the while some very daunting tasks. There are creatures of all kinds that try their best to stop the two. Magic is at it’s best, and the sexy sex scenes are HOT HOT HOT!! Whew! *wipes brow just thinking about it*.
Anyhow, that’s the best I can do without giving away any revealing details. This whole series is brilliant, and by far my favorite fantasy reads in quite some time! Each one a must read, and I’ll surely be diving into Ozma’s story soon! 5 stars plus for me! Thanks to the authors for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This version of Oz has become one of my favorite series. I've absolutely loved getting to know Crow and Reva more in this book and following their quest to defeat the witch who took everything from them. There were high stakes and lots suspense, but I really appreciated those funny moments that made me laugh out loud. I can definitely see why Crow and Reva were drawn together, which makes it all the more heartbreaking what they went through. I really enjoyed how this one played out, and I am so excited for book three.
***I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ARC of this book.***
I love this story. Crow and Reva's love is just simply amazing. I loved getting to know Crow and who he is. This twisted fairy tale is one of my favorites. Being able to know Tin and Lion and now Crow, I love all three of these stories. I didn't want to put it down.
I was given ebook arc of this book. In return for my honest thoughts and review. I really enjoyed this book. I think I found my first favorite book couple of 2021. I highly recommend this book and Lion (0.5) Tin (book 1) Each book has different main couple characters but continues the story or I should say the stories are connected. These books are retellings of The Wizard of Oz. And I am definitely here for this type of retelling. I love how the authors did this story. And continue to surprise me with each book. This one so far is my favorite out of the three. Crow and Reva are on a search together to try and fix Oz. I don’t want to give to much into this review about this book. Because it would give a lot away. But I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE BOOKS.
Ive loved this oz retelling world so much from the beginning and I have been so looking forward to Crow. I loved him in the last book and new I needed more of him. And to get to know Reva was an added bonus. I loved every second of this book and following their story and cant wait to get ahold of the next book in line. The world building is amazing and all the detail packed within the book is breathtaking. Its oz done right with fantastic love stories that leave you swooning as you finish the last page. This is a series i will be buying in hard sets to keep for years to come.
CROW makes me think of farms and grotesque dolls resembling humans used to scare corn-eating birds. But nope, no farms. Only a once-shy scarecrow that's now not scared at all! In this epic novel, Crow follows the love of his life, Reva, in an attempt to find and destroy Locasta once and for all. But, by doing so this evil witch may curse them again. Okay, Crow and Reva were cursed before for many-many years, and now they're seeking revenge. To do so, they scrambled through incredible-hard obstacles, including *spoiler* and *more spoilers*. As I read, I got GoT vibes, which is a good thing!
This series is sooooooo interesting!!!! I love all the creatures and magic. The characters are great, I especially love Reva's fierce determination and how loving Crow is. The sex scenes are hot af! Not enough Tin in this book because I became obsessed with him in the last one, lol. I am super excited the series isnt finished and cant wait to see what happens in Ozma. The writing between the two authors is seemless and the entire book is fun and easy to read. Great series, highly recommend
I didn't think I could like Crow more than Tin. But, just like the first book, I was hooked from the beginning. The worldbuilding is amazing. I loved watching Crow and Reva's relationship unfold. This grown up version of Oz is a place you'll want to visit again and again. I'll definitely need a print copy.
“He was the sun and she was the moon and his rays would light the darkness around her. Always.”
Be still my heart. Such a great second chance romance between Crow and Reva!! Two wonderful, complex characters that have been through so much, finding their way back to each other. I loved this!!
There’s so much adventure and action as the couple heads North to get their revenge and save the people tormented by Locasta!! Unusual characters and some scary places ... yikes, the corn fields!!!
I’m freaking loving this series!! Lion’s novella set the stage with a horror romance. Then Tin & Dorothy’s enemies to lovers romance. Now Crow & Reva’s second chance romance!! All while trying to save the land of OZ and it’s occupants!!! I can’t wait to see what’s next!!
I started off by reading Tin previously. It was an enjoyable spin on a beloved tale with more steam. I loved Crow and was thrilled to learn he would have his own book.
On an unrelated note, this past week I have been obsessively listening to the Wicked Broadway soundtrack, so clearly I was in the mood to return to Oz. And also desperate to see the Wicked Witch of the West get her happily ever after.
This book delivers. I love Crow even more than I did before. And Reva? A snarky badass who can survive anything.
By the end of the book I was on the edge of my seat. Surely something with enough sexy times to be considered a romance wouldn’t do anything awful to the main characters...or would they? *wink* I’ll let you decide. Be prepared to fall in love with the Scarecrow and Wicked Witch as you’ve never seen them before.
Also I was really hoping Ozma would get a book next, and it appears I don’t be disappointed!
I really enjoyed Tin, but Crow stole my heart. The world of OZ with fae--what more could you want? But it's so much more than a dark and twisty romance (and there is plenty of that). At its heart, Crow is a story of second chances and doing everything you can for the person you love. Told from dual perspectives, Duell & Robinson nailed every scene.
I was happy to receive an ARC for Crow. It is the second full-length story in the series. In this tale, Reva, the Wicked Witch of the West is back and out for blood after being scorned by Crow. The Northern Witch has her own plans. This book is nicely executed covering love-hate and revenge as the reader is swept up in the adventure of it all.
Wizard of Oz meets Sarah J. Maas for an edgy, adult take on a classic...with Fae!
Normally I tend to not like retellings of my beloved classics when they take darker and steamier turns, however I absolutely LOVE the Faeries of Oz series. I love how the authors have tied in the original works of Baum's and created something new and deliciously magical with so much depth. Crow and Reva are absolute dynamite together! Their history and backgrounds are so layered and complex. Their are new faces, old faces, and surprising faces.
It is well thought out in regards to characters and plot, and you can tell there is a lot of heart that went into this. Both authors have nailed the pacing with their books! It is evenly paced enough for action, world-building, and development to form without stagnating or rushed. It has spice but just the right amount and doesn't go into excessive detail which hits the sweet, spicy spot for me.
So far this series has to be my favourite Oz retelling ever! Everything was vividly epic, the burning romance, the non-stop adventure, the deadly and vivid inhabitants of the land.
What an adventure. I am loving this take on an adult version of the Wizard of Oz. Faeries of Oz is about what happened to Oz after Dorothy left. Book 2 of the series Crow, fills in the background of Crow and Reva, while also continuing the adventure of trying to fix all the damage that was done to the land and it's inhabitants. I can't wait for Ozma, Book 3 in the series to come out. Happy reading. Annemarie
I received an Advanced Reader Copy of Crow: Faeries of Oz Book 2 and have chosen to leave a review.
This sequel picks up where Tin left off but told from the perspective of Crow and Reva. I was super excited about this because I wanted to learn more about the history of Crow as well as Reva! Crow is a clever fae, who although comes from a tortured past, still manages to walk with a spring in his step. He's a gem! His ultimate goal in this novel is to help get Oz back to the way it was, and takedown Locasta once and for all... with Reva by his side, what could possibly go wrong...right?
But Reva is struggling with her own tortured past and what it means to be near Crow again...
One of the highlights for me was, we get to see some truths come out and how Reva reacts to them. It allows for BOTH characters to grow along the way.
The last 3/4 of the novel happened to be my favorite part, it was fast but filled with action and wonderful story advancements.
This book is passionate! Between the anger and the sexual tension, it's guaranteed to keep you fired up. Add to that a dark adventure full of monsters and magic, and this book can do no wrong. It may be the second book in the series, but it's currently first in my heart.
A dark Oz sequel with elements borrowed from Hannibal Lector and Bluebeard
I read the first book, Tin, more than 2 years ago and I strongly suggest you read the trilogy in close sequence as initially book 2 was confusing. It’s meant to be so, as characters are coming out of mind fog and remembering things the curse made them forget for 20yrs. Still, better re-read book 1 before you start on this one.
Dorothy aka Thelia, daughter of Crow and Reva, Wicked Witch of the West breaks the curse and kills the bad White Witch of the South (the one who liked to wear other people’s heads). But there’s one more fae villain to subdue - Locasta, the Witch of the North, the one who started the whole business with cursing Tin and Crow and Reva. This time, it’s Dorothy’s parents - Reva and Crow - who set out on the journey to defeat the Wicked Witch. This book follows the bone structure of the initial scenario of the Wizard of Oz - journey, threats, trials & tribulations, even collecting a heart and avoiding the poppy sleep - while at the same time batyes you in dark fae wickedness. The enemies-to-lovers angle was fab, I loved Reva and Crow bickering but making up. Loved their true names and how they used them for their own good. The sizzle scenes were 4🌶️ hot. Some elements were more horror, though - a vamp fae with a shack enchased in a cover made from fae skin gave me Hannibal Lecter vibes while the skeletons in bloody dresses in the stone Gnome King’s bedchamber were tres Bluebeard. So, a shudderingly dark read with shmexy scenes and a HEA. Like Tin, this isn’t a book for the faint hearted. I have book 3 Ozma, will go read that next.
If you loved Vampires in Wonderland, you’ll love this. Recommended for lovers of dark NA Oz retellings bordering on horror and veering into spicy romantasy with the second chance romance trope.
