This book, along with an accompanying workbook were given to me by a retired art teacher who highly recommends the book. She knows the author and speaks highly of her.
I read the book from front to back but did the exercises only in my head. Still, as a person who loved to draw and paint as a child and continued to love creating pictures as an adult, I can understand how the lessons presented in this book will be helpful to anyone wanting to improve their drawing skills. As I look inside the workbook, I feel the urge to draw so I hope to do so on days when my fingers are not too stiff.
The most recent copyright date for my copy of the book was 2012. The author suggests using a mirror to do a self portrait in order to transform the 3D image into two dimensions. I wonder if she would now approve of using a cell phone for the same purpose. The image might be smaller, but it could be enlarged by printing it, and some cell phone cameras are very good now.
I appreciated the author's inclusion of brain studies since I am also very interested in how our brains work and how our brains affect our drawing.
